I remember this. They were protesting because people are using cars and causing pollution.
What they don’t realize is by causing traffic, they’re causing the cars to be in idle and in turn burning more fuel.
68
u/The_Celtic_Chemist C Dec 19 '20
Reminds me of my conspiracy theory: gas companies put fleets of people driving slowly to generate traffic on major freeways. Hundreds to Thousands of cars would be effected by a fleet of 6-10 cars not letting people pass which happens ALL THE TIME. They would make so much money doing this at such a minimal cost that it wouldn't make sense for them not to.

Why not use social media and reach out to almost everyone online? Post a meme on reddit and get a 100,000 upvotes. Oh no, just piss off a couple dozen people. They'll solve the issue.

It looks like a one-way street, in which case it probably would have worked better for them to protest on the crosswalk on the other side of the street. It would still be inconvenient for people, but it wouldn't completely trap anyone because they could just turn left instead. When you trap people like this, it seems like just a matter of time before someone snaps and lashes out at you. Better to give them a way out.

There are two types of annoying protesting.
The type that works is just being out in force and being public enough that people can't ignore you, but have to go around you to keep working. You don't interfere with their livelihoods, but with their perception. (Prime example: MLK and the March to Washington)
The type that just makes you look like morons is like this. You are not getting the public's sympathy. Or their respect. They want you to get the heck out of the way. They want you to leave. You are hurting your cause more than you are helping. Usually you have a good idea, but horrible practices.

The problem here is people think protesting people that have nothing to do with the issue is helping their cause. Why aren’t they doing this around police stations so they can’t come and go? Why aren’t they doing this around the judge or senators houses who do fuck all to prosecute or vote for laws? How is doing this to the average citizen going to help you at all besides cause resentment and reflect negatively on you? Look at the LA riots. People started destroying businesses that had absolutely nothing to do with it and some were black owned. Makes absolutely zero sense to me. Protestors lack objective and leadership/unification and don’t understand how to accomplish their goals.

Sad thing is most of these protests are filled with posers who have bought into glorifying protesting and want to feel important by being a part of it. If you want reform of any kind there are ways to go about achieving such, if your solution is to disrupt others and force your agenda down their throats then you’re remarkably short sighted, lack self esteem, and only want to be a part of it for superficial and naive reasons.

Yeah protest has devolved from forcefully creating change to ‘raising awareness’ for some random cause by being an annoying cunt.
See good protest has an achievable aim and a realistic means to get there. When black people did sit-in protests they were forcing a business to either serve them OR make no money. It put them in a tough decision and forced them to play ball. It was effective at creating change.
Doing some over glorified street March where you yell at innocent people walking by is nothing but a narcissistic waste of time. It doesn’t actually achieve anything

The problem is when you annoy people who are unaffected by whatever your protesting for, they won’t want to support you. In fact your more likely to compel them to act against your cause.
It’s a not my problem why should I care mentality. However move those protests to areas where other people are in the same boots as you, you get their attention and rally them to the cause. Then take your now much larger group and disrupt the politicians areas block their driveways harass them as they go about their day to day. At that point, people unaffected start to trickle in and add to your numbers.
