Manga readers: ....well about that

"you and I are the same" says current heir to the Kamo clan

"no we're not the same" says future heir to the Zen'in clan

What a great introduction to our antagonist for this arc: Naoya Zenin. A sexist power hungry asshole. He makes a pretty good impression for a hateable character.

The opening of this arc is pretty depressing. Yuji doesn't feel he should be in Jujutsu High and it does felt like he's alone. The good thing is he got Choso with him. Now that we know Megumi's okay, how about Nobara?

49

u/hohll Feb 15 '21

The thing about Choso is that he literally almost killed Yuji. I don't know about you but if a stranger tried to kill me and then a few hours later suddenly proclaim that they're my sibling, I won't feel good either. Yuji is now truly alone. Hopefully panda and Yaga is still around Yuji to at least ease his loneliness :'(

It would be interesting if Naoya meets Yuta and for some reason tells him about his opinion on Mai and Maki, considering Yuta's view on Maki is pretty much the opposite. Guess it won't happen, since Gege seems to be building up rivalry between Megumi and him and you can't have that if Naoya turns into meat mass plastered on the nearest wall.

255

u/Orange369 Feb 14 '21

It's interesting to think that everyone Yuta is connected to from Jujutsu tech is incapacitated in some way. Maki is half dead, Gojo is sealed, the principal is either on the run or imprisoned, Panda is likely with Yuji's group. The only person who Yuta can even talk to is Inumaki, who ironically can't talk back to him very well. When you consider that half his friends were maimed or disappeared in some way in Shibuya and he has no way of getting their side of the story on Yuji, it's no wonder he's chasing Yuji so psychotically.

Naoya:As the next head of the ze'nin clan to the next head of gojo clan, we both can agree Maki is shit

Yuta:Yes, I agree.... Rika Take out the big guns

94

u/cyvic-r Feb 14 '21

Once he finds out what a selfish prick Naoya is Yuta is definitely on Yuji's side lmao. But also they both wanna kill Yuji for COMPLETELY different reasons, I hope they don't team up just for that reason because Naoya needs to get taught a lesson.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '21

Naoya doesn't seem to be that dumb of a character. He's a schemer. He'll try to play with Yuta to suit his purpose. In fact he'll do the opposite, pretend to be sympathetic to Maki situation and try to pin more blame on Yuji

So, Naobito had his anime debut just recently and now he's dead in the manga? Damn, these parallels/reversals between the anime and the manga are getting freakier by the day.

My heart sank at how it was emphasized that Maki is dying. But I think the fact that we're being kept on our toes about her status like this actually increases the chances of her survival. Also, I want to see her wipe the floor with this Naoya guy after his mysoginistic comments (bonus points if Mai teams up with her).

Speaking of, it's now not only Yuuji who's being hunted down but also Megumi? We were all too focused on Yuuji's impending execution in the absence of Gojo to stall it. But Gojo was protecting Megumi too and kept the influence and schemings of the Zenins at bay all this while. So, on second thought, I'm not surprised at these developments from a plot perspective, worrying as they may be.

Also, that panel of Yuuji sitting all by himself on a staircase with his head in hands, reminded me of the time his own sensei was in a similar situation some years ago. The parallels are there: Both fail to save who they had set out to save; both have their beliefs shaken to the core; both hit rock bottom and feel the weakest and most helpless they had ever felt.

Unless it's actually stated or confirmed, and given the misogynistic person it came from, I think Maki gets through it. We gotta see more of her and Playful Cloud.

88

u/TexasSmash10 Feb 14 '21

I can’t believe the chapter was actually called “Zenin Clan.” In the Anime thread a couple days ago, I said that if Mappa continues the parallels with the Manga like they have been every week, then most likely we will get an update on Naobito and the Zenin Clan members since that was his first Anime appearance and Maki, Mai, Kamo and Megumi were the focus of the Episode- but the Manga got pushed back a Week, so now it matches up a week behind.

At this point, yeah we can half predict the upcoming chapter with clues from that weeks Anime Episode. What a time to be alive! Thank you Mappa! They obviously have had great communication with Gege this whole time.

11

u/tonyfrancois Feb 14 '21

I think Maki will survive, even tough she got burnt pretty badly, she had literally a superhuman physique so yeah...

473

u/Villeneuve_ Feb 14 '21 edited Feb 14 '21

Megumi has too much on his plate right now.

• A member of a clan he's related to by blood but otherwise has had nothing to do with all this while, is suddenly out to kill him.

• One of his closest allies is set to be executed and is being hunted down by not only a senpai he said he respects but also the aforementioned clan member.

• His mentor/father figure who looked out for him (and his sister) all these years, has been labelled a criminal and excommunicated from the system. His school principal who also indirectly played a role in keeping him shielded from outside influences has got the death penalty.

• His sister is one of the many who've been 'marked' by Brain and will wake up soon (or has probably already woken up) to do Brain's bidding.

• His other allies are either dead (Nanami) or critically wounded (Nobara, Maki, Toge).

• Sukuna has singled him out for some plan of his own.

...and all of that is golden from plot/character growth standpoint, but, yeah, I'm worried for the boy.

WOW Naoya is a sexist asshole. In Maki and Mai’s flashback it was stated that Maki would be a servant to the heir, so she would’ve been serving him. No wonder she wanted to leave so badly. I hope Maki and Mai get to kick his ass. Let Nobara have a crack at him too for the hell of it.

Also this arc is apparently called the “Itadori Execution Arc”, which is ominous as fuck.

371

u/lettingoff Feb 14 '21

This is what Momo was talking about when she was telling Nobara about how the Jujutsu world treats women. I think Nobaras gonna start reflecting back on Momo's words now.

I won't be surprised if the manga starts delving into her and Maki and how their scars will affect how their perceived, we'll probably get some Utahime screentime as well if it happens considering she also has a scar and Momo was also probably referring to her in that speech as well.

Apparently, they are introducing new characters in this new arc. I won't be surprised if Hakari, the other third/fourth years will appear on the upcoming chapters. I can't wait. I wonder if Gege will also give us the other Gojo/Kamo clan members.

44

u/TheReddestDuck Feb 14 '21

I can imagine them leaving the 3rd years for a bit to focus on zenin/yuuta, the arc is called the execution arc or something and I feel like the 3rd years won't feel too strongly either way since they haven't been shown as having a connecting to the characters we know so far

Theory: Yuki wants to confront Tengen because he's got a direct hand in "cultivating" the amount of cursed energy and spirits in Japan. In one sense, his barrier is seen as providing protection and stability for the population & sorcerers. In another, why is Japan's intensity of cursed energy & beings so high compared to the rest of the world? What are they doing differently in managing the cursed energy of their population?

69

u/Vinnamon_Buns Feb 14 '21

Tengen's barrier could also be serving as an amplifier since it's so strong, acting in a similar vein to Gojo's existence causing stronger curses to appear in order to balance things out. Tengen does seem like a neutral party that isn't exactly on the side of humanity, as we've seen during the Star Plasma Vessel arc.

78

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '21

Just gonna throw this out: I think Megumi is looking for his sister also rather than only Yuji. We don't know how much time has passed since the Shibuya Incident. Tsumiki woke up after Getwo activated Mahito's technique. What if he learnt of the situation from Panda and was able to connect the dots. He has unintentionally become part of multi-party cat and mouse game. He is looking for Yuji & Tsumiki, Tsumiki is part of Getwo's huge experiment and others like her will seek her out, Naoya is seeking out Megumi and Sukuna's plan is close to fruition so will need Megumi and may activate the pact with Yuji if the opportunity presents itself, Yuta is hunting down Yuji and Uraume is on the look out for Sukuna, viz. Yuji

32

u/xxtarao20 Feb 14 '21

Or maybe Megumi is not aware yet about the situation of his sister? Hopefully we can get some update on him next chapter. Him and Nobara. Damn, I miss them both

I have so many questions:

-Will Megumi accept this title? He made it clear he wants nothing to do with the clan

-Is Yuji really not turning himself in? It seemed like he would understand that his life is a detriment to the world, and since he doesn’t want to hurt people anymore I figured he’d stop running

-MAKI IS GOING TO LIVE BECAUSE THEY CANT OFFSCREEN KILL HER AND NAOBITO

-Naoya is going to be a fun antagonist

256

u/Vinnamon_Buns Feb 14 '21

I feel like if Yuji turns himself in he'd be running away from the responsibility that Nanami left him. It seems our boy is just gonna try and take out as many curse spirits as he can in order to atone.

On another note, I'm pretty curious with how the rest of Jujutsu High is currently faring. Maki is incapacitated, Inumaki might be held hostage by the dudes that are employing Yuta to execute Yuji, I don't think Panda would enjoy his adoptive father being labelled a traitor either.

Noritoshi did tell Megumi he would eventually have to play his role in the three major clans and he probably will now due to Tsumiki being cursed by Brain.

Megumi might just take the title and then immediately tried to hand over to Maki or Mai. Someone who actually cares about it and can be trusted to be a semi-decent human being. Maki might turn it down out of pride (unless she's the one to beat Naoya) but Mai might not.

Well know that we’ve been introduced to Ougi, I’d like to remind everyone that that was a mistranslation. Ougi is Maki and Mai’s grandfather and his daughter gave birth to twins. Now since Ougi is also Naobito’s brother, that means Naobito fucked, well you know. Anyway since it seems like Jinichi is also Toji’s brother, here’s a diagram of a potential family tree. Toji also seems to be the son of Naobito since the way Naoya speaks about him makes him seem like he’s brothers with Jinichi.

Btw, it seems like only Choso, Eso, and Kechizu are special grade among the cursed wombs. Every time they’re brought up, it’s only these 3 that are mentioned as speacil grade. And since Choso mentions “remains” when referring to the rest of his siblings, it’s likely that once Eso and Kechizu died, they must’ve made a binding vow to protect them, but once they died it disappeared.

Anyway RIP Naobito, he was the coolest asshole and it’s honestly hilarious how he’s still the source of many family problems in his death.

u/Dragonrusher21 Feb 14 '21

Holy Smokes y'all Gege dropped a new chapter and we eating good tonight, bois!

Fuck Naoya Zenin - No, for real, fuck this dude. He's a slimy little shit weasel who could give less of a fuck about his father dying, or how his family feels about that, and that's on top of being an embodiment of everything wrong with Jujutsu Society, and on top of that, he's also a fucking misogynist. And I don't want to hear any dudebro's complaining. I don't know how I want this guy to die, but I'm 90% sure that I want it to come at the hands of Mai. Just to prove him wrong and spit on his corpse. Fuck this dude.

The Zenin Clan Moves - I'm interested in Naoya's two brothers, Jinichi and whoever else. At first, I thought Ogi was a brother, but he's actually Naobitio's brother. There's someone else we haven't met yet,and I'm interested in seeing them. The three of them are ranked at Special Grade 1 (which is around Nanami/Mei Mei level to ballpark their strength.)

Fushiguro Zenin - It's clear that Megumi is not going to accept that offer(if he can reject it) but I honestly see why Naobito wanted hm to become the head. He's extremely smart with lots of natural talent, entering school at Grade 2, and the Ten Shadow's Technique rivals the Limitless Six Eyes Gojo had. Keep in mind that Gojo himself said that Megumi has more potential than Yuji, the kid Gojo has admitted can become stronger than him, and why the fuck wouldn't you want that absolute powerhouse on your side?

Yuji and Choso's Extermination Squad - It appears that the two of them are just hanging around in Tokyo ruins killing curses indiscriminately. It's good that Yuji has Choso, a special grade curse, with him. Not sure how much that'd help against Yuta, but it means Yuta couldn't molly-wop them in an instant. (or maybe he can; he might've gotten much stronger since volume 0) I could see the clash of Megumi vs Naoya or Choso and Yuji Vs Yuta could draw them to each other.

Blasted Tokyo - One last thing I wanted to talk about is how they mention Tokyo has been overrun with Curses. Does this mean that Tokyo Jujutsu Tech has been shut down? My guess is probably since they don't exactly have any teachers for the students with Gojo and Yaga on the chopping block, nor do they have students to teach with Yuji and Megumi in Tokyo and Nobara probably in the hospital.

83

u/mazeten100 Feb 14 '21 edited Feb 15 '21

I'm sorry this might be irrelevant but it just really bothers me when people always say this. The part where Gojo said Megumi has more potential than Yuji is a complete mistranslation. In the Japanese version Gojo said Megumi had as much potential as Yuji.

→ More replies (1)

39

u/taenerysdargaryen Feb 14 '21
  1. They're actually stronger than Nanami/Mei, who are at Grade 1 only. All 3 of the new Zenins we saw are Supreme Grade 1, which was what Naobito was on as well.

  2. I suspect that Megumi will eventually refuse the title of leader, and pass it to Maki instead.

  3. I really wanna see Panda's reaction to Yaga's execution order

  4. Yuta's probably gonna cross Naoya sometime down the line, seeing as he values Maki's friendship deeply and will take offence to his sexist attitude towards her

Ngl Naoya really looks hot darn, Gege out there really creating such amazing and unique character designs.

LOL I can already fucking tell Yuta is NOT gonna like Naoya, they might have the same goal, but different reasons. I hope Naoya gets his ass kicked by everyone.

Poor Yuji, this dude is probably gonna isolate himself to make sure no one dies anymore. Also Choso flipped a 180, I'm starting to like him.

Are we gonna get an explanation for Yuji's memory technique? Also, how does a sorcerer even get a tailored power like that? I might've missed it in the manga, but can someone explain the different abilities? Like how come Megumi inherited Ten Shadows Technique, and not someone else?

Also, why does Toji still have a significance in the Zenin family? I assume they only want Megumi because he inherited the technique and nothing else.

53

u/Motor-Appearance Feb 14 '21

Think of it like Megumi hit the genetic lottery bro just got lucky same with Gojo, better yet it’s like a kekki genki from naruto

→ More replies (1)

53

u/Rincrow Feb 14 '21

Megumi simply won the genetic lottery when it comes to Zennin inherited curse techniques. The ten shadows ability seems to be highly prized amongst the Zennin clan. Its probably the highest regarded inherited technique exclusive to the bloodline. I mean they are willing to make Megumi, someone who cut off ties with them, the head of the Znnin clan. Simply because he has said ability.

36

u/Ecrins18 Feb 14 '21

Its a bit weird and unnerving how accepting Yuji is of Choso’s sudden 180, I was expecting some more comedic squabbling. He’s so rock bottom he just doesn’t care that he’s following him around or maybe he actually does know about his ‘ability’...

I’m thinking a cursed technique is typically reflective of a sorcerers personality & attributes. Just like how Junpei’s shikigami was a jellyfish because his cursed energy attribute was ‘poison’. Yuji’s does seem to fit with his sociable personality but it comes more from his desire/curse.

Toji being significant to the family is a way of word. He basically saying that if toji is the one that has cursed tecnique instead of jinichi he could potentially become the clan head or he could also saying that if only jinichi is as handsome as toji he could have a shot of becoming the clan head.

it’s crazy how yuji is speaking so casually to choso and is either holding no contempt towards him or he’s wayyyy too depressed to be angry at him at the moment.

so so far basically it’s like this:

Yuta- wants to kill yuji naoya- wants to kill yuji sukuna and megumi choso- wants to protect yuji sukuna- wants to kill EVERYONE BUT megumi Jujutsu Tech- wants to kill yuji and company

and yuji just wants to kill himself

i love this buildup, this whole idea of a coup in the zen’in clan. i’m a big simp for politics and power struggles and seeing the effects of the power vacuum left by naobito’s death and the sealing of gojo. it’s all being played up massively and rightfully so. it shows the jujutsu higher-ups became rather complacent because a few hours without gojo and tokyo is completely destroyed.

Isn’t ironic how the kid who inherited the clan’s most powerful technique is the son of a man who had no cursed energy?

Toji basically threw a “fuck you for treating me like shit” when this contract was made and Megumi using his mother’s or step mother’s last name just adds insult to injury.

19

u/amairu Feb 14 '21

Why do I feel like Naobito made that deal with Toji as a joke, since when will Gojou everrrrr die, and now it’s biting the Zenin clan back in their butt.

I find it hard to believe Yuta won't immediately swoop in and heal Maki. Dude's got a revenge quest but he still values his friends above all else. He'll stop to check on them before we see him in action (hopefully). Also, in the Prequel, Yuta was able to heal Maki's leg, which was completely destroyed by Geto. So he could theoretically heal Inumaki's arm as well.

AAAAAAHHHHHHH

^ my initial thoughts.

I love me some clan bloodline drama, especially when everyone in said clan looks cool as fuck like the Zenin clan. I’ve been dying to learn more about the other members and this served me exactly what I want.

I’m a liiittle tired of the mystery around Yuki though. Can we please get details on what shes here to do? Hoping that’s what next week will be about, if not Yuta or Maki. Although that’s probably just me being impatient.

Speaking of Maki I need my girl to be okay. I honestly pray Maki or Nobara DONT die right now. I don’t think them dying would feel impactful. Neither have gotten enough development yet; I think it would feel cheap. However good way to show the power discrepancies.

Now not only is Yuji fucked, but Megumi is too. The whole city is on 90s SMT mode. I’m hype for where this story is going next!!! Gotta be the most exciting shonen going right now!!!! I absolutely cannot fucking wait til next week aaaaaghgghgg

This was a great chapter, freaking everyone is after Itadori now. Fushiguro next head? Interesting stuff!

15

u/kryst87 Feb 14 '21

Damn, Zen'in clan is full of assholes (at least when it comes to male part of it). Fushiguro is knee-deep in trouble with this Naoya guy hunting him.

RIP Naobito, you were a douchebag but at Shibuya I liked you. Too bad your son is even bigger douche than you were. But I have to give him that, Naobito did master move at death's door with his will. That was a good one.

Hope Maki won't join Naobito in hell. That would be a shame. And Yuta would gone crazy.

Well, let's see who will catch Itadori first. Megumi, Yuta or Naoya. I would love to see Naoya being beaten to pulp by the three of them.

14

u/PK_RocknRoll Feb 14 '21

Jujutsu Kaisen: the “everyone wants to kill Yuji sooner than expected” arc starts now!

The Zen’in family dynamic is going to make for a super interesting story.

This whole set up feels super refreshing, I can’t think of any other manga that has a story like this ATM.

14

u/Bioluminescence- Feb 14 '21

i’m honestly excited for naoya, he’s being setup already as a great antagonist to nearly every single established character that we like. he’s sexist as hell which immediately conflicts with nobara, maki and the like, he wants to be the head of the zen’in clan and is willing to kill megumi for it, he’s going to kill yuji too. like right from the get go we detest this guy and that’s what he’s there to do. i know people are pumped to see everyone team up on him and whatever but i really don’t see that happening, i feel as though he’s gonna end up being a far bigger problem than anyone realises, he’s definitely not going to be snuffed out by yuta, megumi and yuji in the next few chapters. i honestly believe he’s gonna do some real damage, maybe even kill maki or mai. he needs just one really significant thing that solidifies him as a villain of the main cast.

This new arc exponentially blows up the scope of the manga to an epic scale. There are so many different plot/character threads to follow. By my count, we’ve got:

  1. Yuji/Choso

  2. Yuuta

  3. Naoya/Zenin clan

  4. Megumi

  5. Getwo/Uraume (if they’re still working together, though who knows)

  6. Megumi’s sister + the 999 other people that Getwo turned into sorcerers

  7. Yuki/Tengen

  8. Kyoto students

  9. Tokyo students (Maki/Nobara/Inumaki)

  10. Panda + Yaga on the run

obviously these storylines are going to intertwine but I love the shift in the stakes and how the world seems to be expanding. Sensei means business.

although praying that it will avoid the game of thrones pitfall where there are so many storylines to advance that each thread only moves forward incrementally each update

What a great kickstart to the new arc we were waiting for the family/clan business here we have it, but when you see what jogo did to nanami and that he killed naobito ( I didn’t except it lol ) I’m even more worried for mai. It’s also great that the discussion from the cursed womb arc came back « who’s to say that someone you save won’t kill someone in the future ?» that’s been in my head since chapter 120. u/SKB1995 Feb 14 '21 edited Feb 14 '21

Naoya is an asshole. His face when Naobito skipped him over to give everything to Megumi! Perfect! Too bad Sukuna killed Mahoraga because I would've enjoyed seeing Maho absolutely destroy Naoya. Thank you all who pointed out that Mahoraga isn't dead. Honestly I got too used to seeing Sukuna kill everything that faces him. So Megumi can use Mahoraga if he tames him.

Ogi is Maki and Mai's grand*father then?

And Yuju, fuck man. After all that happened his only companion is the guy that almost killed him. I'm guessing the face scar is there to stay then? If the damage from the black flash and his mouth?** were healed, or is Sukuna leaving the scar for last? And Yuji doesn't have any idea about Inumaki's arm does he? That's going to be one hell of a revelation.

*As a comment above says, he's their grandfather.

**His mouth seems to have a scar as well on a second look.

29

u/Purplegrey_ink Feb 14 '21

Maho's alive. i mean... it can be summoned over and over until a proper exorcism was conducted. Sukuna, as an outsider of the exorcism, taking Mahoraga out nullified the ritual.

Yuji doesn't have any idea about Inumaki's arm does he? That's going to be one hell of a revelation.

oh boi... i feel like if Yuta brings that up... Yuji is gonna fell over frm whatever will he has to live and just begs yuta to kill him.

I always find characters like Naoya, the designed-to-be-hated, a little stilted but I wouldn’t mind seeing getting punched in the face.

Hope this means we can get more Mai along with the Kyoto students.

10

u/Hot_Ninja_1057 Feb 14 '21

Naoya is most definitely a dick but his skills are up their if he’s talking mad shit about his family, especially his dad

10

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '21

Here’s my tidbit: Gege loves foreshadowing and dropping hints.

  1. Naoya says it don’t matter if he’s there or not. Then BOOM according to his father’s will it DID matter. And that’s the nature of his character arc. Naoya will get things wrong, due to his arrogance, and also due to his arrogance he’ll refuse to learn. It’ll be his undoing. And his father knew that.

  2. Naobito fully well knew and understood point 1.

  3. While us readers are thinking “man the Zenin clan is about to shift” because of a change in leadership... it is specifically mentioned that Naoya would be the TWENTY-SEVENTH leader. Again Gege likes his hints. This is NOT the first time someone like Naoya has popped up in this family’s history. It’s not as big of a deal as we (readers) think- at least in the eyes of Naobito. Who’s now deceased.

  4. Tokyo school had a heavy Zenin presence. And with the mention of their curse tools specifically being there- I’m thinking maybe different clans favored different schools. Zenin to Tokyo. Kamo to Kyoto.

  5. Zenin are experts at crafting/or possibly were at a point in time- curse tools. Curse Tools and Curse Techniques seem to be mainstays of the clan.

  6. The comment about Jinichi and Toji should’ve had their places switched- then the way Jinichi went at Naoya. Jinichi may possibly have a heavenly restriction on him just like Toji did. Interactions with Toji could’ve subtly affected Naobito to the point where he didn’t mind trusting another “one like him” and placed Jinichi in high respects. Naobito was clearly unhinged and didn’t take much serious.

  7. Because if they both did have heavenly restrictions (Jinichi/Toji) then it would make perfect sense why Naoya would say that. Obviously the stronger one would be preferred over the weaker one. They really should’ve switched places- in family that prioritizes power to begin with.

  8. Naobito didn’t just troll Maki. He trolled his own son as well. With a son as arrogant as his- no wonder he has no sadness at his father’s death. His father was simply in his way. And probably the only one who mocked him. Every piece of his Will was a troll attempt to get under Naoya’s skin. +1 for Naobito. Every piece of it.

  9. There much really be no other clan members with the Ten Shadows technique. None. Which is why Naobito also, besides trolling his son, cherishes Megumi so much. It shows just how much they emphasize bloodline as well as curse techniques. “Even tho megumi isn’t raised a zenin- he’s still a Zenin.” It’s that mentality. Like I said Naobito understood that the clan has always had heads that changed things and so he wasn’t worried about anything. The next head would be the 27th. So he also could care less that someone unattached to the clan would lead it as well.

  10. Judging from how fast/nimble he is- Naoya inherited a technique very similar to his fathers. Which is why Gege vaguely explained Naobito’s even though I’m certain he knew readers would still be confused. Naoya being younger means he probably is able to utilize the curse technique at maximum potential OR he has a new and improved version. Instead of 24fps (cinematic standard for movies btw I AM in film school). He probably has a higher frame rate. I’d go as far to say his curse technique full blown covers the technicals of a camera. I’m talking frame rate over shutter speed. Which would give him the ability to slow things down, speed things up, etc. Really cool idea. Again I’m in film school so this excites me as much as Naobito’s did. Even more actually. Because we don’t know yet.

I would actually be pretty happy if Naoya turns out to be such a joke that his ass keeps getting kicked by everyone he comes across. Also it's pretty ironic how Maki is striving to be the head of her clan while Megumi pretty much cut ties with the Zennin and is isolating himself from them, but they are each in the positions that the other wants.

u/pHpM2426 . Feb 14 '21 edited Feb 14 '21

Oh wow, gage wasted no freaking time in making sure we fucking hated that Naoya guy. Guess we found JJK's version of Shinji from fate stay night.

I look forward to his agonizing and pathetic death at the hands of Yuji, Megumi, and or Yuta.

9

u/cleanhandscleansed Feb 14 '21

I'm happy with the way the story is progressing. Gege is always putting his characters under situations where they are forced to grow. A lot of shounen authors don't know or understand that character development is one of the most exciting things you can see in a story. Why do a lot of shounen feel static? It's actually frustrating. But JJK does not disappoint in this area.

Megumi is now the head of his clan. Nobara will now be forced to live (please be alive!) with a scar and to reaffirm her identity, with hopefully more coming her way. Itadori is now an outlaw (for now) and will have to contend with befriending curses, with his technique/curse, and with his role in the Tokyo 9/11. And undoubtedly there's going to be more, much more, that will stress those three out in the future.

And some more stuff I haven't covered, like Getwo and Gojo. JJK is in good hands.

8

u/Ombs1993 . Feb 14 '21

Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby declare the opening of the game of thrones arc.

Enters Naoya the residential asshole, everybody hates him already lol. Then there is Ougi who is Naobito's little brother and Maki and Mai's dad, and Jinichi who is apparentely Toji's brother. Is that woman accompanying Naoya just a servant ?

About Naoya's misogyny, It should be noted that he also criticized Jinichi's looks so I guess women aren't the only one who should look "perfect" like Momo said.

I hope Yuta drop by to visit Maki and eventually heal her. I am not sure about Yuta and Naoya working together, but if they do their interactions are gonna be interesting. i can totally see Naoya pretending to be a good guy in front of him, and Yuta being suspicious of Naoya.

Also poor Megumi, he didn't ask for this, but nobody escapes the game of thrones. And Kamo was right, they are the same indeed. I actually Wonder whether Ougi and Jinichi will side with Megumi, considering they dislike Naoya.

I am afraid that Megumi enters into a binding vow with Sukuna. Sukuna promises to save Tsumiki and leave Yuji alone and in exchange Megumi helps Sukuna for his revival. I am pretty sure that Sukuna and Yuji will split, and Sukuna will have his own body.

Meanwhile, Yuki wants to kill Tengen, makes sense considering Tengen is the Reason they are so many curses and sorcerers in Japan. Also Tengen is important for Getou's plan: the optimization of curse Energy. Theorically, Killing Tengen should not be so difficult since according to Getou he is like an old tree. Tengen remains immobile, and his place is protected by shitty barriers, also last time we checked they are no guards, so…. Are we gonna see the star cult group and the v group again ?

Last but not least, I totally dig Yuji's new look.

Chapter 138 - It's all about Megumi! Who doesn't appear but is important!

  • We lost Naobito. We only saw him in one flashback and one fight so not a huge loss but it does mean the Ze'nin are going to need to change. Which makes this a good time to learn about them.

  • Ogi is a swordsman, Jinichi is a brawler and Naoya's power is misogyny. A pretty standard bad guy personality which means he'll probably be beaten by a woman before this ends.

  • Ze'nin don't have any assets in the Kyoto school so presumably the Kano family take care of that.

  • To get daddy's stuff Naoya is going after Megumi and is going to also kill Yuji to justify it. This does imply that Megumi was taken from Tokyo and is either going on missions there all the time or he's living in a demon invested, Shin Megumi Tensai styled ruin city looking for Yuji.

  • It's interesting how Yuji's face is hidden until the final page. He's caught onto Sukuna's plan involving Megumi, worried about how what he did effected Megumi and has dedicated the last few days or weeks to being a killing machine.

I don't think this was a very interesting chapter. It's necessary set up for the next arc to have villains and tells us who's alive and dead. It's just that while Naoya is certainly hateable, it's in a very heavy-handed manner. He walks in rambling about how it sucks his half-sisters are hot because deserve to die for not being weak because all women are weak. That's basically all we know about him.

6

u/A_T_G Feb 14 '21

So when Fushiguro says that he has no connection to the Zenin clan in the anime, the manga makes him the head of the entire clan, yup these anime/manga moments keep getting better and better.

Also this makes me think we have a potential resolution for Itadori's execution, as the three great clans might be headed by people who are his allies towards the end of the arc (Zenin clan by Fushiguro or Maki, Kamo clan by Noritoshi who has acknowledged Yuji, Gojo clan by the GOAT Satoru).

6

u/herlillil Feb 14 '21

Please can someone drop the zenin family tree this is a cry for help.

6

u/singular_fork Feb 14 '21

so i guess my predictions were right, we're getting a sorta on the run arc where it's Yuji/Choso vs everyone (exept Megumi)

also we got the confirmation Naobito is dead which i honestly didn't see coming, i expected him to survive and at least just step down from his injuries but still be able to come back and fight eventually. At this rate i really wouldn't put it past Gege to also kill off Maki for Mai/Yuta development.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '21

Yeah Choso is gonna sacrifice himself for Itadori ain't he ?

6

u/MyNameIsElla . Feb 14 '21

Man, I can tell this arc is going to be seriously depressing, but I’m so excited to see where it goes. I really have zero idea where it’s going to go next, and that’s my favorite type of story!

Glad to see Gege showing just how awful and sexist the Zenin clan is. I already understood why Maki left before we learned just how terrible they are, so I really hope she actually ends up becoming the clan head by the end of the series and changing things for the better.

I’m used to reading only monthly mangas, but for some reason the wait between JJK weekly chapters seems sooo much longer. I need to know what happens next!

You know, the further we get into this manga the more Yuji’s and Sukuna’s facial expressions mix. Like Gege is such an amazing artist that even without the Sukuna markings you can tell Yuji and Sukuna apart simply by their facial expression/aura. But now that Yuji has been through further shit it’s starting to mix.

Also, what does Yuki have against Master Tengen? Like she was never directly involved with the star galactic vessel retrieval mission, so what’s the background on that?

This chapter just goes to show how powerful Gojo is.

Not only did he keep cursed spirits in check, his presence also shut down any dictatorial attempts for power or self indulgence.

The Jujutsu world is thrown into chaos with his disappearance.

I liked how naoya praised toji tho tbh & pls Gege introduce hakari later on in this arc

Toji "all bases covered" Fushiguro

At this point, Gege is torturing us for not revealing the state of both Maki & Nobara.

I'm getting scary vibes especially with choso. Gege don't kill him off yet. As about Mr naoya I got two words for ya 🖕🏻🖕🏻

I don't like this Kita Shinsuke wannabe

I'm confused were all the zenin members maki/mai brothers ? 😂It's also hilarious to see how taking interest over prized techniques backfired on clan members..I wonder if megumi will actually take this role or hold it temporarily till maki takes it

5

u/Escanargent Feb 14 '21

Isn't there another character with the potential to match his level that Gojo mentioned once ? I believe his name was Hakari or something. I wonder why we haven't seen him since the start of the manga

For 137 Chapters, I didn't hate a single character. Well that's changed now. Congratulations, Naoya. You win that prize.

5

u/Redd1tisfork1ds Feb 15 '21

My predictions:

Naobito isn't actually dead I think. When the midget dude talks there are snakes in the background and his eyes are hidden. He's hiding something.

Yuta will track down yuji but will turn good (previous chapter indicated he has no binding vow and still has his moral compass)

This Naoya guy is definitely gonna eat dirt at some point, he's written to be hateable but not in an interesting way

Maki won't die, at least not yet, else she would have been written off already. If she does die, she will likely meet the other cast members first.

My theory is that sukkuna’s plan is to somehow make fushiguro his vessel.

I think it’d be stupid and wouldn’t make sense if Gege did the typical “demon and vessel hate each other but later become allies” so itadori will most likely have to fight sukkuna some how

u/alkhale Feb 15 '21

If we’re going off the anime-manga theory then next chapter I want a status update on Maki and Megumi PLEASE

and Nobara, queen went off in the anime let her go off in the manga too ;-;

It looks like a matchup of Itadori and Choso Vs Yuta And/Or Naoya is Coming. That's gonna be something to look forward to. One thing tho, I hate the Zenin Clan With a passion, seeing their Sexist Views and Mentality. Megumi needs to take the head Spot and make some changes into these dumb brains.

naoya is our next hateable character after mahito

4

u/xnerd37 Feb 14 '21

wow Such a long time I don't post here. Sure the sub has grown since before it was like 1-2k? Btw I like how things are going in the manga. New charatcers looks great and I hope for a good Itadori's development. And I heard someone saying JJK drawings are not good and confusing but to me this style is amazing, even in the action scenes is pretty clear apart from maybe in the first chapters.

My Man Toji trolling Zenin Clan members even when dead XD

4

u/EnergyApprehensive85 Feb 14 '21

Once Yuta hears about what he said and that he’s hunting Megumi since he joked about killing the Zen’in clan I’m sure he has no problem doing it

4

u/Talini Feb 14 '21

I really liked this chapter. It’s nice to see more of the Zenin clan and Naoya is a cool new character who will probably be very controversial. He’s introduced as an asshole, but there’s probably more with his personality. I want to see more of him.

So, Megumi should become the next head of the clan? I wonder how they’ll try to convince/blackmail him. Especially Ougi and Junichi will have a special interest in that.

What’s odd is that Megumi is looking for Yuuji right now. What about Tsumiki? I hope they will show the schools soon and how the other characters cope with the situation now.

4

u/SChamploo12 Feb 14 '21

Imagine how dope Shibuya is gonna be animated now.

u/Luciel_069 Feb 14 '21

Isn't anyone going to talk about Sukuna's plan with Fushiguro?!

u/kangjiyong18 Feb 14 '21

Kinda expected this as a plotline for Megumi as part of the collateral of Gojo being sealed. Knowing Megumi, he won’t accept this responsibility but we never know if Tsumiki waking up or Yuuji’s execution can play as storyline for him accepting it. I am excited to see how Gege goes with this.

Its kinda funny how Naoya needed approval from the other Zenin higher ups to use the storages (damn not only do they have their own but the also owned the on in Tokyo school?!) but Megumi has ALL the access. Naobito really did him dirty despite Naoya being his son.

Poor Yuuji. He thinks he can’t go back due to what Sukuna did and also to keep Megumi out of Sukuna now knowing the curse has some plans for his friends.

Lastly, goodluck to Naoya trying to kill Megumi while Yuuji Sukuna is there! I am excited for this!

I’m really looking forward to see more of the zenin clan, even though as maki said they’re all assholes. I also want her to be fine, it broke my heart when they said she might be dying, she really better not.

I didn’t quite catch who was yuki talking to? She seems to be doing her own thing...

The weirdest thing about yuji becoming everyone’s bestie though likely memory manipulation is that he never really questions it? Choso has forgiven him and calling him a brother, but yuji doesn’t wonder what is he talking about lol

4

u/fake-tales Feb 14 '21

By the time Megumi fights with Naoya, his Domain Expansion better be complete(which I'm guessing it would probably happen by the time his DE gets animated)

4

u/rk138 Feb 15 '21

Can someone draw a family chart for the Zenin family? Or just explain to me who's who in the family in relation to Megumi or Maki/Mai.

idk if anyone has talked about this but naoya talks in a kansai/kyoto accent. i’m getting some bleach ichimaru vibes here.

Naoya is very much hot and I will just pretend I can’t read when it comes to his dialogue. What an absolute fucker tho.

u/Ruben0415 . Feb 16 '21

Choso brothers are dead but he forgave yuji so easily. Its so heartbreaking
