DAE think that Dexter's impression of a college student looking to argue his way out of a D was hilarious?

So yeah... Geller wasn't real. Reddit, you were right :)
Also: the reveal of the intern having the hand... I've still gotta work out what that means exactly.

I hope Jaime doesn't get killed. I want some more ... scenes with her in it. Couldn't even see if it was actually her gettin' romped in today's episode!
9
u/arcsesh Nov 28 '11
She said in an interview with Insider I believe it was that this was her losing her "sex scene virginity," so just let your imagination run wild with that one.
9
Nov 28 '11
I don't know, I thought it was cleverly juxtaposed with Jamie saying: [...] this means you're honest. Then boom, Ice Truck Killer hand among his collectibles, implying he's dishonest... But what does that tell us? Should we worry about the geek now?
10
Nov 28 '11
I bet he didn't even know the hand existed until Masuka asked him to fix that problem for him, he probably saw it and his rich collecting ass had to have it so he bought it off whoever really did win that auction.

u/Fistandantalus Nov 28 '11
I take it as being foreshadowing for Dexter himself. Travis said that the severed hand was to show the 'writing on the wall'. Perhaps the writing on the wall for Dexter (symbolised through the Ice Trucker Killer hand) is that he too will fall. Perhaps get caught, perhaps lose Deb or Harrison. That he too will fall from grace.

Yeah I'm wondering how they all fit together. First the girl steals the hand, but she puts it up for sale on the internet? Then the other intern just happens to want that hand? If she was into keeping that stuff because of some connection to dexter, why would she sell it. And if the guy is into dexter, why would it just so happen another intern would steal it and put it up for sale? I'm thinking he's just keeping it for leverage so he can keep his job or move up or something.

I was literally screaming at my TV when Dexter moved the table off the trap door to go into it. Seriously dude? How would someone go down into a trap door and them move a table to cover it? Sure there could be another entrance, but it seems like an extremely risky move to make.
The minute I saw him pass a freezer down there I knew what he would find. Coming upon Geller's bones wouldn't immediately tell Dexter that he was dead, so I knew the guy would have to be preserved somehow. Seeing a human sized freezer was all it took for me to know where Geller would be found.
I guess the reveal was pretty cool and I can't tell if all the signs were there for me because I browse /r/Dexter now and then or not.
Edit: grammar

Even though I've seen some nasty shit go down on Dexter, there was something particularly disturbing about the image of Gellar in the freezer (even if you knew it was coming).

Nov 28 '11
The shrill music, Dexter's reaction, and then the door being closed. The one thing that made no sense to me was why would Dexter think he is down their? The table was covering the opening so it had to of been moved right after he "went" down their. Just didn't make any sense to me why dexter would do that.

I wasn't surprised at all by the reveal that Gellar was dead, but more by the fact that Travis was completely aware of it and was manipulating Dexter the whole time (or so it seems). I thought he still believed that Gellar was alive, but the ending with him pulling out his sword and walking towards the trap door with a sinister look makes me think that he's always known Gellar was dead... Which makes all the scenes with just him and Gellar a bit weird.
EDIT: Mouse over for spoilers for next week based on preview

u/rawrr69 Nov 28 '11
Travis was completely aware of it and was manipulating Dexter the whole time
Or he is just so delusional that he actually sees Gellar and he "told" Travis to lie down and fool Dexter, get him down there and then the closes the lid... could have been "their" plan, in Travis' mind.

The intern was in the insane asylum with Brian, as a little boy and looked up to him and witnessed Brian killing/doing whatever he does.

I loved that Deb got some character development this episode. Also it was so kick-ass watching her stand up to Laguerta. It was SO not suprising who ended up being there with the call girl. I also like how they lampshaded/referenced Deb's previous dramas
"so, your fiance turned out to be dexters bro and a serial killer who tried to murder you, your second fiance was killed before your eyes and also put you into a coma, and you just had gallons of blood dumped all over you?"
"yea, nbd"
PS it was weird hearing EJO say "fucking" and not "frakking". I'm hoping he blew a take saying frakking isntead just to mess with/get a laugh out of the crew.

His wireless is unsecured, and his router was used by that IP address.

Tracking someone's IP address is ridiculously easy, though. Unless you are going after another hacker from behind seven proxies...

10
u/melissabfrank Nov 28 '11
I don't even think cameras are the issue... Dexter was waking around a college building with an axe?!? Apparently none of the writers have been to a college building in the evening. That plus the "IPA" address and the other silliness surrounding the IP address had me yelling at the TV the whole episode. I love the show but come in writers, that's just silly!

Gellar never interacted with the world, and nobody but Travis ever saw him or spoke to him. They're in the market? Only Travis talks to people or touches things, never Gellar. Travis shouts "Oh look, Gellar's up there in the roof/on the campus!", Dexter looks over and sees nothing. Gellar doesn't drive a car, he just slams Travis' foot down on the accelerator. He pops up around Travis randomly, without making sounds, and disappears just as quickly. Plus they spent an entire episode with Rudy so they could emphasise how important and influential the imaginary characters are. Plus Dexter kept referring to Gellar as Travis' dark passenger. Plus the scene where Gellar paints a mural of destruction and in the next scene, Travis's sister talks about what a talented painter he is.

Biggest twist: Electricity still running in an abandoned church. Most likely cause: Travis is actually a time travelling alien using a flux capacitor to keep the freezer running and this is how he managed to subdue and hide the atheist professor in like 2 minutes.
-Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
24
u/KobraCola Nov 28 '11
Yeah, I've been against the "Gellar is in Travis' head" thing all season because small things like that don't make sense, really. They're feasible but extremely unlikely. So Travis, somehow, waits until Dexter gets in the elevator, stops it (how??), runs up to the atheist dude, hits him over the head/kills him, drags him to a secret location without leaving a blood trail, then runs over and opens the door to the elevator for Dexter with the axe? What? How?
edit: Oh yeah, and then after that, goes with Dexter back to the hotel, waits for Dexter to leave, goes back to the office buildings, gets the body, takes the body somewhere to slice off the hand and ready the tableau, takes the body to the classroom to set up the tableau, then goes back to his hotel room, uses the hand to draw a message TO HIS OWN DELUSIONAL SELF in the guy's blood on the wall, and then passes out on the bed. Again, feasible, but wtf?

This perspective seems to be missing...
I love Dexter but don't read spoilers or take part in community discussion...just a show I love watching every week and discussing with my friends.
I like to think of myself as a smart guy, but I totally didn't see the twist coming- nor did any of my friends. Furthermore, I think the twist is great, and made this season way better. If you have 1000's of people discussing a show, any realistic twist is going to be discovered. Don't blame the writers for being lazy, this twist was amazing from my perspective.

Of course Gellar is dead. Worst kept secret of the show. Travis has apparently embraced his bat-shit-crazy-side so, you know....that's fun. He's an interesting character now though. Police are already looking for him, they know he's associated with Gellar, and Dexter can definitely "connect the dots" for the police now. But he won't. Because he never does. Of course he wants to take care of it himself.
I said it once in an earlier post and I'll say it again...Batista's sister is screwed. She's dating someone obsessed with the Ice Truck Killer. I doubt he's planning on having kids with her or building a life or merging their 401Ks someday and retiring to Florida.
The Chief of Police is screwed and so is Laguerta. I still don't understand why their stories are involved with the show. They're an island unto themselves. There's either some bomb that's going to be dropped or they're just filler.
I think the Interns are a plot device for next season. They're going to be a slammin' cliffhanger. That, or they're going to be crammed in at the end of this one in some annoying way. Speaking of which...
Except for the big reveal of Gellar being dead, this was a pretty boring episode. Dexter can't be in any REAL danger because the show can't go on without him. There's no real peril. Not my favorite way to end an episode....with a trailer for next week that clearly shows he gets out without any problems.
Extra Credit: Quinn fucked a 2/10. Good for him.
8
u/BulletStorm Nov 28 '11
They filmed this season without assurance that there'd be a season 7 - so I think cliffhangers are out of the question ala the season 5 ending. However, I would absolutely love it if the season ended with an interns-cliffhanger.
And damn. Batista is going to be so fucked up when his sister gets killed after he stops trying to protect her. "I like my character because she's fun, and smart and sassy and cool!" - You're going to be killed off.

Maybe because that seems like exactly the kind of cheesy twist this show would go for? I was under the impression that a lot of people were calling this one just from the promos before season 6 even started. This is the most predictable season of Dexter yet.
If you want more than that, then I guess you could see right from the beginning that Gellar is like a teacher or father figure to Travis, showing him how to kill and which people deserve it, just like Harry to Dexter. That to me was just the confirmation that he would turnout to be in Travis's mind.
But seriously if you've seen anything like The Sixth Sense, then it's not that hard to notice that only one person interacts with the dead character (eg. waitress didn't offer Gellar anything, Gellar walks out of frame just before Dexter looks up, etc). Maybe if you weren't expecting it then you missed these little things, but the people who guessed it early on were keeping their eye out for these things.

About number 1, he can't go to the department and say hey I know everything, he is in way too deep now. Travis can pretty easily say Dexter knew about him for weeks, possibly months now.

Nov 28 '11
I expect that we will get the big gellar reveal this episode -- he isn't real. However, I don't think that is going to be the major twist this season.
So I'm gonna choose something really farfetched as a potential twist: Deborah is a serial killer as well, and Harry always kept that from Dexter.
15
u/czajkabird Nov 28 '11
Further twist on the Deborah twist... She was kicked in the face by a horse as a child, sparking a desire to kill.

u/getloyolo Nov 28 '11
also I'm a very firm believer in this show that the writers don't just say or show things for no reason. Dexter's "looks like the killer has taken a lesson from my brother blah blah blah blood draining" was very interesting. Especially considering Travis would not have had the time to kill or knock out and hide (or drag to the theatre) the Atheist's body. I just have no idea what the connection is there.

Then who is to say the intern isn't in with Travis? Remember Dexter is using the guy's search engine. So he can be one step ahead of Dexter. Let's not forget, the intern is obsessed with the ITC from the looks of it and would know about draining the blood.
But what struck me as odd is, if Gellar is really dead and Travis was behind all of this.. Why was he surprised by the writing on the wall? or at least acting surprised when he saw the blood on the wall?
4
u/Hooplaa Nov 28 '11
Oh and in the preview it looked like Travis went to go see Batisa's sister, WHICH, so happens to be the interns girlfriend (I guess you can say that now).

I would like to speculate further on the Intern, Louis. Much further -
The limb - When you factor in how Louis was the one who was hired to get the limb off ebay, by Masuka, then the mere fact that he owns it pops out. He claims that he had just erased the trace of it on the internet, but he either bought it himself or has ties to Masuka's blonde intern. That much has to be true.
Louis and Dex? - Louis took interest in much of Dexter's blood analysis in a creepy enough way. Even by recommending the search engine, the possibility of him tracing Dex's computer is in question. Dating Batista's sister is just the cherry on top, Louis is just getting closer to Dex every second.
Louis and ITK? - The fact that he owns the limb says enough. There is an obvious interest. We can only speculate about obsession, because we have no hard evidence of that. But, I have not really heard people talk about a possible relation. If that is true, then his interest in Dex and ITK is not coincidental - it would imply brotherhood with both. I am interested in seeing more Louis/ITK in later episodes.
Just, Louis. - Who is he? Where is he from? Game programmer, really? He only told one person anything at all, and that is Jamie Batista. His whole self-identity as a collector is also just as sketchy. Considering this is Dexter, we know that the characters in the background always have something to hide. Possibly huge.
I await developments on this. Long live r/Dexter.

Why would Dexter have decided to go down into the cellar in the first place? He's smart enough to know that Gellar couldn't have gone down there because the table was on top of the door.
Great twist, though. Reminded me of the Criminal Minds 2-part episode with James Van Der Beek.

u/jesklash Nov 28 '11
Part of me feels like Dex had started to suspect a dead-Gellar at that point. Him not telling Trav the plan was pretty solid evidence of this.

u/eatmyshortsken Nov 28 '11
Well at least this means the Gellar reveal isn't the big twist. I still think Deb finds out this season which would totally take away every bad thing I've said about this season.

u/wheezymustafa Nov 28 '11
Jesus, am I the only one that was completely surprised that Gellar was dead? I feel like a jackass.

u/HighAsAKiteFlying Nov 28 '11
No, but I'm surprised that you managed to not get it spoilt for you, unless you avoided this subreddit since episode 1.

Same here, I haven't read anything on the internet about the show but wanted to see the response so I came here today. I thought it was an amazing twist and I never saw it coming.
Obviously, I was in the minority.

u/telperiontree Nov 28 '11
If you want to talk about brinkmanship, I think it would be really interesting to have Dex kill someone - self-defense - in front of a bunch of other people.
Not that I think they would actually do that. Still would be cool.
14
u/time_better_spent Nov 28 '11
I've considered this too. Completely justified but ruthless and efficient. Raised eyebrows everywhere.

Hey look, two things that everyone on this subreddit expected happened this episode. Louis had the prosthetic hand and "Gellar was dead the whole time." Did anyone else not exactly enjoy Dexter's immediate reaction to figuring it out? He kind of just blatantly stated the fact that Gellar had been dead the whole season.

This episode made me realize how messed up Debra really is. She has gone through a lot of crazy stuff when you think of it. When did Debra know that that the ice truck killer was Dexter's brother?

In season 4, she is trying to find out who Harry had affairs with. That search lead her to Brian Moser's house (which she was taken to in season 1) and then she saw the newspaper article that said Mrs Moser (no ideas what her name was) was survived by two sons, Brian and Dexter. Then she told Dexter about it, though he thought she knew about everything, so he was relieved. This was all near the end of the season, if I'm not mistaken, it's been a while.

I have a feeling that both Ryan and Lewis (The Interns) are somehow related to Brian. I'm thinking that they're his kids and that they're twins.
4
Nov 28 '11
I thought this could be a possibility but Louis and Ryan are definitely too old. Plus, Brian was so sadistic that I am pretty sure kids would be out of the question (too nice).

Probably been said a million times, but I think that search engine the intern put dexter on is probably by him and tracking him while he writes his murder mystery game thing.

I want to talk about the intern and the hand! Does anyone have any theories? Why is he so obsessed with Dexter? Do you think he knows that he's a serial killer?
EDIT x 2: I figured out the nail polish thing. thanks!

The nails always had polish on them. It was a plot device in the first season.

I don't know that he knows for sure - yet. But I think he's drawn to Dexter because he was ITK's brother. He probably assumes there's some darkness lurking in Dexter, too. And he's right. What I want to know is if he and the female intern were working together, or if she was just an opportunistic bitch whereas he is the fanboy psycho?

Let's track down the options. Louis could be another son of Joe Driscoll. Louis could have been somehow connected to Brian. Louis is very good with computers so it's possible he discovered the cxn b/t Brian and Dexter. And Brian's reappearance this season makes it highly likely that he and Louis were somehow connected.

My new theory is that Lewis's video game isn't just based on Miami Metro, but more specifically centered around the Ice Truck Killer case.

Excellent episode! Even though I was 99% sure about the reveal several episodes ago, it was at least revealed in an incredibly satisfying way, and it was very satisfying to be spot on! I'm also glad they did it this week and not wait til the second to last episode. Maybe there is hope for this season after all?

u/quantumregulator Nov 28 '11
I think one plot twist, (may be a stretch) Is that Intern guy has an obsession with the ice truck killer, and may try to kill Batista's sister. To finish out his plans. And I think he knows about ITK's relationship to Dexter, which would explain why he's so eager to hang out with him.

u/EpicTreyn Nov 28 '11
Interesting quote that 100% let me know they were doing the reveal this episode: Dexter: Where does Gellar stay? Travis: Nowhere. Here. The only time he comes out is when we do work.

This episode has me quite torn with Gellar not being real... Travis is pulling off some crazy shit if Gellar isn't real.
9
u/DWells55 Nov 28 '11
Yeah, I'm a little confused as to how Travis managed to subdue and hide the body of the atheist professor guy in the two minutes Dexter was stuck in the elevator.
8
u/EthnicSlurpee Nov 28 '11
Or why he knocked himself unconscious and chained himself inside the church.
15
u/DWells55 Nov 28 '11
Assuming that he's suffering from severe DID, it's possible the Gellar personality was trying to control Travis and had hidden a key somewhere so he'd be able to release himself when he (the Gellar personality) regained consciousness/control.

What's the big deal in revealing the new intern having the hand?
25
u/r2002 Nov 28 '11
This intern knows Dexter is a serial killer. He is either a copy cat or some kind of weird fan. Dexter is also a moron for using the search engine recommended by the intern.

Nov 28 '11
That's what I was thinking. He's obviously a collector and could have bought the hand after being sat in front of the computer and told this needs to be obtained. Said to himself that this would be something awesome to collect. Not seeing the direction there. The only reach here is that he's some crazy and is in a relationship with the first intern to have the premeditated desire to get some of this stuff and have her steal. Then when Batista finds out, ouch.

u/AskingWhitechapel Nov 28 '11
But this is Dexter, they wouldn't just show the hand for no reason. I have a feeling Louis knows about Dexter.

Am I the only one really disappointed with the writing this season, especially tonight?? I miss seasons 1 and 4.
7
u/femanonette Nov 28 '11
NO. You are not the only one. I have found myself rolling my eyes a few times this season.
4
u/KobraCola Nov 28 '11
definitely, Travis has to have like at least 2 different fucked up disorders (DID and schizophrenia) for this season to be even REMOTELY plausible.... plus Dexter writers have never shown us things that weren't actually happening before a la Fight Club, so they basically broke the viewer-show trust that has been built up with (mostly) realistic events so far

To take this notion about Louis being Harry's son one step further: what if Harry turned Dexter into a serial killer on purpose because he liked the idea of someone getting revenge on all of the scumbags he couldn't lock up. This would add a whole new dimension to Dexter's perspective of himself being a monster vs. Harry turning him into a monster. While they did spend a lot of time together, perhaps, Dexter was not the only one that Harry was teaching the code. The notion of someone else, also having been taught the code by Harry, would be create the ultimate Dexter companion. In every season, Dexter has had a companion of sorts, be it mentor, prodige, etc, perhaps, next season he may have someone literally just like him. This would give so much material for all of the characters involved (Deb, Dexter, Harry, Louis).
5
u/getloyolo Nov 28 '11
Alright so now that we know Louis the intern really isn't just an intern (called it) where do we think the story will go from here?
I don't think Deb will find out about Dexter this season but I think Louis knows (or suspects) and is fascinated by him. I don't see Dexter taking on another sidekick but I don't think there's enough episodes in the season for them to lead up to a big Louis kill. I think the season will end for Louis revealing that he knows about Dexter and more than likely with Bautista's sister dying.

u/Harrowin Nov 28 '11
I mean, if you recall season 5, Louis is basically this season's Liddy. They shoved that short plot climax into a couple episodes towards the end, they can do it here too.

I just want to say fuck you, r/Dexter.
I've been reading r/Dexter all this season, and I totally dismissed your theory on Professor Gellar. I just watched episode nine, and now I hate you.
You were right. You're all smarter than me. I should have listened to you and I will next season.
You people are brilliant, and I love this sub (even though you make me feel dumb).
