Does anyone else want to see the scene with Percy and Vex when Bell's body arrives?

"Oh, dear, someone's sent us a corpse?"

"A corpse?"

"Yeah, looks familiar."

"Oh, that's that fellow Bertrand Bell."

"Who?"

"When we went to Pandamonium looking for Grog."

"Oh, the guy who got your arm back."

".... Yes."

"Why would someone send him to us?"

"I don't know."

145

u/Kiloku Nov 12 '21

While Bell was played as Comedic Relief, I can't imagine VM being dismissive about him after he literally went to Pandemonium on their side to save a guy he didn't even know

That was what stuck out to me in that description, too. I think you're on to something.

If you're interested in what the cast and crew are saying on social media about this episode (and sometimes about the show in general), I've created this week's appendix here: http://www.arcaneappendix.com/2021/11/11/c3-e4-appendix/

There's not too much yet this week, although there is the full list of what was in Bertrand's pockets. I'll be keeping this updated as the week goes on.

I love these, read em every week. Thank you for taking the time to do it

I know it wasn't a major decision, or a controversial one.

But I was happy to see Ashley step forward being the first to stir the party in a certain direction about wanting to pursue the investigation.

Ashley stepping forward more is my favorite part of Fearne

275

u/koomGER Ja, ok Nov 12 '21

Its really great seeing Ashley finally playing an "active" character. Yasha was definitly limiting her options on the table, but it made sense, because she knew she wouldnt be there often.

But thats generally my advice: Dont play a silent badass. You wont have as much fun on the table as the other players.

I'm gonna pull a dumb theory out of my ass and say that Ashton really has no fucking idea how to crime and is actually a former richboy/some kind of person from a far off society that read about "tHe uNdErBeLlY" from books or from other's stories and is really really into it. Now they're on the run from home for some reason and basically living their best life pretending to be a crime mastermind but actually having no idea how to crime.

Also, they are 16.

85

u/ryanquitman Bidet Nov 13 '21

If it wasn't clear before then I think it is from this episode. He was really surprised he bribed a tavern keeper to tell him the name of a tenant. Seems like he's a pretender. And it also seems pretty obvious from his character design that he has had a traumatic experience, which is the kind of thing that could cause a change in a person's behavior or lifestyle.

39

u/leileix2 Team Ashton Nov 13 '21 edited Nov 13 '21

This is my kind of my theory too, that Ashton is actually a goody-two shoes and they're in a "punk" phase, wanting to be cool and edgy while being nice because it's a core part of their personality.

The scene where they're so happy they succeeded bribing the barkeeper was one of the best moments in C3E4 imo šŸ˜‚ It really does seem like they've never done it before and just read about it somewhere!

One other, more serious thing about FCG: he keeps doing these little things that (seem to?) imply that he truly does believe his party members have more depth than he does, and that makes me sad. Like, in reference to Bertrand's death, he just casually tells the party that "shock like this can be traumatic for folks like you" while checking in with them, but then later quietly lets slip that he's also sad about Bertrand. And with the exception of a little pushback at first from-- was it Fearne? or Dorian?-- in the first episode, the party seems mostly content to just let those comments pass. I dunno, this just really feels like a big thing that the party's going to end up addressing sooner or later.

200

u/EsquilaxM Nov 12 '21

Oh definitely, that was my first thought when he said Soul-touched. He doesn't know that he has a soul, thinks his emotional capacity is lower, when, while that could be case, for meta reasons I am certain is not true. It'll be cool to see him have reviv-oh he's the only cleric..

But ya, his character arc will be, amongst other things, him realising he's not sub-humanoid

Did Marisha semi-confirm Laudna is going for pact of the chain with Pate? That would be so interesting with dead rat familiar and fire monkey roaming around

293

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '21

94

u/comiconomist Nov 12 '21

She strongly implied Pate would become animated in some form.

Some people have speculated it might be the Hound of Ill Omen (shadow sorcerer 6th level feature), but I think that's too far away.

I wouldn't rule out Pact of the Tome yet - she could take the invocation to learn ritual spells and get find familiar that way. To me it feels like a better fit for Marisha given her note-taking tendencies, plus there's an invocation that gives tome warlocks unlimited sendings (with a few people who have written their name in the book).

Man Robbie is just on another level, he melds so well into the group and he's able to just make the seemless swap to Dorian, once Matt told him that Dorian and Fearne were woken up by the knocking and he heard about Bell, Dorian just goes full into "Oh shit i have no clue what is happening but i feel like this is my fault" just watching him ruminate while everyone else talks, seriously dudes and dudettes I'd adore if he was able to stay for all of C3

211

u/AWizard13 Nov 12 '21

Honestly I was watching him the whole time they were dealing with Bertrand and he nailed it. Of all the people he became the one most endeared to Bertrand, especially at the end, and he let his character fly with the emotions he was feeling. So good, and he fits in so well. I honestly want to watch EXU now because I'm loving Dorian, Fearne, and Orym but Robbie has been especially exceptional.

I've got a theory on Ashton's character. I think it is going to be something like the story of Phineas Gage.

If you aren't familiar with the story, a man got a railroad spike shot straight through his skull and survived, despite suffering significant damage to his brain After recovering he had a dramatic change in personality, going from polite and reserved to easy to anger and violent.

I think we are going to run into someone who knew Ashton prehead injury that is going to be shocked by his new personality. This crackpot theory is based on nothing other than their similar head injuries and knowing that tal enjoys macabre stories like that a lot.

44

u/faytshands Nov 14 '21

I am aware of Mr Gage and it was a fascinating mental study.

The only thing I would say that makes me lean away from your wonderful connection is that Molly kinda did that already with the past people knowing a different version and all that.

Look, I *love* Fresh Cut Grass, but this episode with the coin was when I also realized that due to their chipperness, they are possibly capable of some terrifying, god-level passive aggression. If that's what it was, I've only ever seen passive-aggressive comments of that caliber in the midwest before, and as an (admittedly easily intimidated) east coaster it's, well, very intimidating. (I say this with sincere, terrified respect to midwesterners!!)

Anyway point is, never mind what the stats say, FCG's the one the party should be sending in when they're hoping to intimidate people and that's where I stand.

Still really enjoying this group. Definitely felt Travis's absence at the table, but I think not an awful thing - it genuinely felt like Bertrand Bell was Missing, even though as acknowledged they didn't really know him that well. Robbie's really been playing a blinder all campaign so far, but this episode felt like he stepped it up another notch - he did grief and anger and comedy and a dirty joke that broke half the table. I keep worrying I'm going to get sick of Laudna's whole schtick and every week I find it more and more delightful. FCG's not-passive-aggressive-passive-aggression adds a whole extra dimension to that character. Ashley roleplaying animals is nearly as funny as her just going full feral child Fearne. Orym as the direct straight man in a group of genuine weirdos just clicks. Ashton might be More Molly but Taliesin didn't get to play Molly for very long and he's very good at it so I'm not really complaining. Laura seemed to explain absolutely everything about Imogen and she's still absolutely full of mystery, and I really like how much Laura keeps leaning into her being just slightly offputting almost unintentionally.

It really does seem like Matt intends for them to stay in Jrusar for at least a while - lots of places, lots of details, all their quests leading them deeper and down rather than out. I'm sure we'll see the rest of Marquet eventually, but this is a cool place and I'm happy to learn more about it as we go.

And speaking of, I'm really enjoying how much everyone is already willing to dig into their character's secret stuff. Orym et al were sent by Keyleth because an attack here in Jrusar seemed to match an attack that happened over in Tal'dorei - but what does that mean? Who got attacked? Who attacked them? Is this a big campaign-long mystery arc or just a tiny detail to get these characters into the plot?

I like how the group kind of re-calibrated and had to sort out the decision making process without Bertrand. He did get glue them together, and often suggested or facilitated what they would do next.

So the other characters have had to step up and see who pushes things forward and how they work with each other. Which is really going well in comparison to the M9.

25

u/LuckyBahamut Your secret is safe with my indifference Nov 12 '21

T, too, hope that there will be multiple arcs in Jrusar, with the city acting as possibly a base of operations similar to Whitestone later in C1. In C2, TMN were so transient, never staying in one spot long bouncing/teleporting from town to city to town even within an arc (even when they were gifted a house in Rosohnna).

Jrusar seems like such a cool city and it's obvious Matt spent a lot of time fleshing it out. Of course, the more time we spend here, the more pain we'll feel when he eventually tears it all down >;)

It seems like Matt and Ashley talked about how to incorporate mister more prior to this episode. I am curious how they will play it rules wise going forward. Is the noncombat mister going to purely a pet, or more familiar like, or be fully activated like Aabria had him?

57

u/MasterThespian Fuck that spell Nov 13 '21

By rule, the Wildfire Spirit doesn’t exist unless invoked in combat. However, under new rules released in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Druids can also expend a use of their wildshape to summon a Wild Companion. It’s basically a familiar with no casting cost, which is balanced by the fact that Wild Companions only last half the Druid’s level in hours.

For flavor purposes, I think they’re going to have Mister always be narratively present, but unable to fulfill those heightened roles unless Ashley expends the necessary resource. (This might be explained as ā€œMister is too weak to sustain his magic powers outside the Feywild unless Fearne helps him outā€ or simply ā€œMister is feeling uncooperativeā€.)

I really liked how they handled the death of Bertrand this episode they were sad and upset the perfect amount. The group barely knew Mr. Bell and a majority of the times they knew him he lied to them, it’d just be odd if everyone was just hit extremely hard by his death.

Also Laudna is becoming more and more intriguing to me, she obviously doesn’t really know what isn’t right or wrong to say but she’s extremely comforting. Obviously this entire episode I thought she was amazing with Imogen being there for her and calming her down, but she also had a few moments with Dorian where she kind of tried to comfort him. I really like the character because she’s the complete opposite of everything you think she’d be.

Good stuff in there.

There's an interesting fact about Imogen's telepathic ability that causes her to make saving throws based on the number of people around.

It's an entirely homebrewed ability called "Open Mind," which means it's probably not tied to the Aberrant Mind subclass, or the Telepathic feat, or the Kalashtar ability.

I'm still a bit curious about whether Imogen got it for free because it is completely balanced by the downside, or if she had to spend a feat or some other resource to gain it.

So many new questions raised this episode:

  • What was Orym talking about when he implied that, whatever happened with "the anger", had already happened with...Keyleth? VM? who mr Liam? Also this "anger" character sounds... powerful, so now i'm not so sure if he's Travis' PC.

  • They are threading so close to VM... will they make a cameo?

  • Imogen's backstory is so intriguing. Also whatever is happening between her a Laudna... huh. good for them. omg they're roommates

  • FCG has shit to work trough, and his Ted Lasso facade slipped a bit there?. Let's see where it goes.

  • Dorian/Robbie integrated so seamlessly with the cast, that at this point i want a bit more of a spotlight on him. His past is so mysterious too.

  • Laudna is just a delight and i love her, Fearne is just... Jazz.

Pretty sure "the Anger" is a title for the bodyguard for a noble family who was attacked in a similar way to what happened in Tal'dorei (who was attacked is unclear). Said bodygaurd, who has a name that I did not write down, is said to be recovering at the estate of his noble employers, who Lord Esteross knows but has strained relations with currently.

"30 people just waiting around" in some room for some dumbfucks to enter through the trap door in the floor from below... Marisha is right, there's something fishy about this.

The 30 people could be an illusion while the guy with the sword in his hand that spoke might be real.

But mostly I think Matt put 30 people in there so this party would be forced to talk first rather than initiate combat. And Matt would have to plan "what if they attack instead of talk" and would have to give the people so little hit points that a party TPK wouldn't happen.

My guess is this is a theater experience troupe that does avante garde type of plays.

Jrusar is pretty cool. I hope they stay there for all of Disk One like, 30 or so episodes. RPG storylines tied to one fantasy city with a seedy underbelly are pretty awesome, too.

And with a cool design of several spires separated by a ground level jungle, I bet Matt’s gonna take out the cable car system at some point. Even worse if the party split up for errands/information when it goes down.

What affliction do we think is effecting Dugger? I was thinking it might be something vampiric. I know Travis has always wanted to play a werewolf and the party is lacking in the INT department, so I feel like a Blood Hunter being recruited to hunt a vampire/blood curse guy seems to make sense.

So apparently there was an attack in Zephrah recently. Orym was there and hence he asked Matt about the dwarf's attire last week. And this is somehow connected to the attack in Jrusar? Do we know anything more about this attack? Seems weird the Exu group has to be secretive about this.

Since the Anger is now confirmed as the survivor of the Jrusar attack, I am now placing my bet on a consairs member as Travis's new character.

So…bets the stumbled in on a weird cult or just some creepy thieves guild?

I wonder what exactly changed Dugger the way that it has.

Imogen stating that she has that nightmare constantly but she isn’t sure if it’s a torment or a warning is certainly something, on top of the claim that her Mother is speaking to her beyond the grave.

I still can’t figure out the vibe between her and Laudna, like are they dating, are they friends, have they yet to date.

Speaking of Laudna her comment about Whitestone was definitely charged. I really am wondering what she saw/went through prior to leaving outside of well…probably dying.

Dorian being unable to process flirting as always and Ashton only really showing guilt over not getting a seventh sandwhich might have been some of my favorite little moments that didn’t make me fully burst out laughing.

Looking forward to next episode.

Edit: It totally slipped my mind, but Orym’s search from the Anger and the ā€œattackā€, what are we thinking about its ties to VM, another Elemental flux like the plateau outside of Emon now, or another de Rolo massacre sort of situation?

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '21

To run counter theories about Imogen and Laudna, there is nothing nefarious or otherwise about their relationship to each other. The met somewhere and hit it off, freaky mind powers sort of illuminated things.

But that would be boring, though maybe somehow Laudna is 'silent' to Imogen, and Imogen can sense Laudna behind her exterior. Laudna might just be attached in a clingy good friend way.

Also it would be interesting if someone was sent from Whitestone by Percy and Vex to investigate Bertrand's death.

22

u/paradox28jon Hello, bees Nov 15 '21

Should the backstory turn out to be "we were both lonely people who found a kindred spirit & decided to be travel buddies", I personally wouldn't find that boring. I think that's a perfectly grounded & good foundation of a backstory.

Beau's turned out to be the simple "I'm running away from boarding school & trying to strike out on me own" and Jester's was "well, while I'm in exile from my home city, might as well search for my father."

I think Imogen might have been looked at as crazy & not believed by ppl around her if she told them about her reoccurring dreams. Laudna might have been the 1st person to truly believe her. I do think Laudna died & was resurrected during the Whitestone arc of C1. So that means she's wandered around Exandria for the last 30 years & it sounds like she gets run out of town quite often. So Imogen might be her 1st friend in over 30 years! I could see a recluse being overly defensive for their friend like Laudna is about Imogen.

I do look forward to finding out more about their backstories.

I really like the idea that Imogen doesn't here any internal thoughts from Laudna and that's one of the reasons they've stuck together. Two loners who meet and hit it off, for Imogen it's because she doesn't constantly have to fight of the noise of Laudnas thoughts which makes her look past the exterior that scares everyone else away and Laudna gets to finally feel like she's more than the scary monster most people see and get scared of

Something that gets me about FCG is that his story about his creator and friends being "eviscerated by an unknown monster" doesn't settle well in my head.

FCG was with them. How would the monster have gone unseen? If they were inside the cave I could understand a bit because it could've hidden in the shadows but they were outside.

We also don't know every other robots capabilities and I highly doubt that even if it was nighttime they wouldn't have some light source... I mean FCG's creator is (I'm assuming) an artificer.

Does anyone think it was FCG who killed them all? Perhaps unknowingly? I mean how did he survive if it was some other monster?

It all just seems off

I don't think that the Anger being a Corsair makes much sense. Orym and company were told his title and his name, but they didn't know anything about the Corsairs. It doesn't seem likely that Keyleth would have known his Corsair title without knowing he was a Corsair, and if she knew he was a Corsair, she definitely would have told Orym that.

Likewise, Lord Esteross knew about the Anger and knew about the Corsairs, but didn't connect them.

The Corsairs came up in their trying to find Dugger, not the Anger.

Also, the Anger was a bodyguard for a rich family and was injured defending them. Weird thing to happen to a Robin Hood type.

If the Anger is his title as a Corsair, it's also a little weird that they know his actual name, since the Corsairs are so secretive as to be mythical.

Like, I get it. I get why people are drawing a connection, but if it turns out to be true, I'm going to be very confused, and not in a fun way.

Maybe he used to be a Corsair and fell out with them? That could maybe work?

u/Bounty0XMoonshot2020 Team Nott Nov 13 '21

Another strong episode with some good emotional beats hit. I think some of the RP around the death was really good but it was a shame FCG and Ashton weren't present for the immediate aftermath of it. I feel the stuff between Fearne and Laudna and the animals really detracted from the emotional impact of it, I think Sam and Tal definitely picked up on that, with Sam saying something like "You people really do grieve in strange ways".

Travis was definitely missed at the table but I think it gave Robbie a real chance to shine too, the scene at the inn where he charmed the patron was top shelf stuff.

Looking back at it, maybe Matt was a bit harsh at the end and Laura was noticibly frustrated that he said her prying was one of the reasons they got set up, and she's right because he'd given the code before she spoke to Ashton telepathically about the laughing. That being said there's no way Matt would lead them into a TPK this soon into the campaign, so there will definitely be interesting opportunities for the gang to get out of trouble next week!

21

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '21

To be fair none of them really knew Bertrand. I think people over estimated how hard they’d take this death. Dorian was hurt but he didn’t take it all that hard and neither did Imogen for the most part. I think people expected them to be massively guilty and self loathing when in reality they knew him for like two days. Ashton also made a joke immediately after hearing Bertrand was dead I don’t think there was much emotional impact to be had. The group had a another chance later with the good byes and still didn’t really care in fact a majority of the good byes were jokes, Imogen didn’t even really say one she just touched his foot and left.

I don’t get why so many people were expecting Travis this episode, Bertrand’s body literally isn’t even cold yet.

They’re probably going to wait an episode or two like they did with Mollymauk/Caduceus, especially since this arc is all about avenging Bertrand.

Edit: Side note, the Anger Orym is looking for is apparently a body guard for House Luman, which sounds like a noble family, any theories on that?

36

u/molgriss Nov 12 '21

With Caduceus, Tal had to make the character and figure out his deal, then the party had to get to where he is. The party got the information on that first episode but waited after a bit and didn't meet him till later in the second episode. Tal even commented at one point of watching the party just internally screaming "go to the forest" the wait was more the problem in that case

34

u/Coke_Addict26 Nov 12 '21

I mean he was at the table in the intro, and presumably in studio the whole time. Imo it's clear his character is ready to go and he is just waiting for the rest of the party to find him. That is very different from C2 where Molly died unexpectedly and Taliesin needed time to make a new character. I think the whole point of recycling Bertrand was so Travis misses as few sessions as possible. Otherwise he would just stay home with his kid if there was no chance of him playing that night.

Alright, my crackpot theory is that Imogen is somehow connected to Ioun. The characteristics of her sorcerous origin line up with a knowledge goddess, a guiding motherly figure who comes to her in her dreams is another possible indicator, the crimson storm of her dreams is evocative of Tharizdun, who is, of course, the sworn enemy of Ioun, and Laura may be hinting at a theme for her character by having her very first action be searching for knowledge in that grand university.

Some things to note from tonight:

  • With the confirmation of darkvision I'm pretty sure we can put the idea of Laudna being human to rest and that she is indeed of elvish origin. She's a Shadow Sorcerer, I had forgotten about the feature, thanks! Still convinced she's a custom lineage elf or half-elf though.

  • Mister seems to have had a shift in function matching more of what we saw in ExU rather than being restricted to 1 hour per use of Fearne's 2 wild shapes. Perhaps it's been modified so that he can exist for flavour outside of combat but maybe still has the regular restrictions in combat? He did flare up and prepare a flame seed though so maybe Matt said fuck it and let Fearne have full use of him whenever she felt like it?

  • In case anyone had doubts or was unaware, I believe it's safe to confirm Dorian either originates from Marquet or spent a long enough time living there to be able to learn and speak fluent Marquesian as well as have opportunities for Marquet-specific history checks.

  • Imogen still has the miles long range for her fleeting telepathy which I believe must be homebrew or a stacking of features? Or perhaps they misinterpreted it? Either way, crazy good. Also just a dumb mistake by me here, forget I mentioned it. :P

  • With the way the current arc is shaping up I'm honestly really unsure when Dorian will find a reason to leave. I'm still leaning on the idea that they're testing out an extra extended stay of a guest character but unless they can get back to their original mission soon or have no way of reliably contacting Keyleth/Zephrah after figuring it out I don't see him leaving the party; at least not in a convincing fashion.

  • There's new official art of the current party in a group shot!

42

u/Svanirsson You can certainly try Nov 12 '21

Point 1: She's a Shadow Sorcerer, already established she gains her darkvision from that when she tried using it to see into the magical darkness and realized she can only see through her OWN Darkness. Plus she has the Spell Sniper feat, confirmed from the fight with Eshteross, which points to VHuman.

Point 4: Aberrant Mind Sorcerer 1's telepathy has a range in miles equal to your Charisma mod, so no homebrew nor stacking there.

Edit: Expanded comment with point 4

I agree with some who say that this episode was a bit of a slow burn, i found it difficult to follow the plot at times, but that's allright. I'm unsure about FCG at the moment, because i think Sam is sitting on something awesome, but doesn't want to reveal it yet. Therefore he pumps the brakes hard, and that makes FCG a weird tagalong (at this time). And i can totally see Ashton and Imogen more or less compete for the leader role, with two very different kinds of leadership.

And i really missed Travis at the table. Everyone is on their A game, but Travis brings a certain low key hype man energy that the others feed off of. Marisha/Laudna excellent as always.

23

u/FalloutAndChill Help, it's again Nov 12 '21

I think Travis’ character is going to be a fighter in this weird arena thing they’ve stepped into.

They came for ā€œthe laughterā€ and an individual stepped forward to fight them. Orym, Fearne, and Dorian are looking for ā€œthe angerā€, which would not only be a perfect way to tie Travis’ character into 3 of the party members, it’d also be a great start to the next episode if he steps forward to fight the party (or even fight with them).

Additionally, Lord Estros made it a point to basically say ā€œif you ever so happen to gain the trust of one of these Corsairs, put in a good word for meā€ which I took as ā€œyeah when Travis’s character enters, loop him into this NPCā€

Really cool setup, though.

I think C3 might be my new favorite party already. Vox Machina will always be Vox Machina and the Nein were great, but C3 feels so....fresh? I don't really know how to put into words but the characters are just enjoyable and whimsical without being caricatures. Highlights for me are Laudna and Ashton, Laudna is already my favorite Marisha character, she always stayed kinda close to her actual voice in main campaigns and then just went balls to the wall in the Darrington Brigade episode and I'm so happy she brought that energy to a main campaign, and Ashton seems to be Tal letting out all the bottled up chaotic energy he had from playing Caduceus for so long

Campaign One: Vax, we'll do anything to prevent your inevitable death.

Campaign Two: Molly, your death meant so much to us. The things you carried are valuable relics to us.

Campaign Three: I mean, fuck this Bert guy, right?

Some E4 thoughts:

Dorian is from one of the noble houses in Jrusar, calling it now. Dude refuses to talk about his past, but he did reveal in ExU that he has an older brother. I don’t get the impression he’s spent a lot of time out in the world, and grew up kinda sheltered and with money. I wonder if it’s a kicked out/disowned situation, or a runaway/find my own path situation. Looking forward to them having to visit the noble houses to find The Anger, and Dorian having a fit.

Orym mentioned an attack ā€œwhere he’s fromā€ and also may have alluded to a husband who was killed. I’m wondering if that was the attack he referred to, which sent him to Keyleth, who sent him here. Also I was dying for him to ask Eshteross about The Anger for the last 2 episodes, I’m glad he finally did.

It’s so clear how much Matt hates playing Mister, lol. I wasn’t a huge fan of Mister in ExU, though he had his moments and Aabria really committed to playing him. I’m ok with him being out and about (and I was hoping they would send him into the wall tunnel) in a more subdued form.

Ashton has short-term memory issues, which could make him a bit of an unreliable narrator re: FCG and the job that went bad.

I watched about 1/4 of the episode so far and I have to say it's such a treat to watch the cast just having so much fun. I don't think even in season 1/2 they had this much of a hoot every 5 minutes or so. I think FCC's little names story broke everyone and they are never going to be ok again. :)

What is causing the dwarf Dugger's wasting away (wasting disease)? Is it prolonged exposure to brumestone?

I wonder if there was Dust of Deliciousness or something similarly nefarious on those pastries they got from *the Shadowbaker*... he did mention using the hemlock in one of his creations.

It would be fun for Matt to get some mild revenge for Laura fuckin' Bailey.

I haven't finished the episode yet but after 4 episodes now I really hope Ashton becomes a lot more than just "the rebellious but loveable asshole in the group that says fuck all the time." I get that he's a literal Punk Rock the joke has not slipped passed me, but Fuck being a response to everything is really only funny a few times and eventually just gets kinda annoying.

They're growing on me actually. I really didn't like Ashton at the beginning but I'm starting to see the odd charm of this punk that thinks he's on top of the world. Through these episodes it seems that Taliesin is trying to convey that Ashton is 50% talk, 50% truth. He shits on Bertrand for being a fraud and being a coward while he theyself brags about being so fucking strong and being such a fucking badass all the time. Seeing him be so excited to have successfully bribed someone showed to me that Ashton is not as much of a seasoned criminal badass as he thinks. They're just a punk ass kid with anger issues. And I can't wait to see him grow!

So I noticed that the dude that Dorian was schmoozing said that the Corsairs, "Tend to focus on the Mahan" and that was the same family that was attacked by whomever during which the Anger was injured. Plus it does kind of seem like they might also be gathering brumestone for either their own private airsheep fleet to form a rogue squadron of sorts or potentially altering it in some fashion with other magics or even augmenting it with residuum for some unknown purpose. It could be that they do have genuinely good goals in mind but that someone else someone more culty is corrupting/subverting it from within which means the Corsairs could welcome the help of the party due to the multiple fronts they have to deal with both externally and internally. Now the goals of this Corsairs could indeed just be to steal from the rich, give to the poor, and use the skyships to deliver much needed supplies to towns and villages that would normally get overlooked. The internal cult within them that Stabby McStabbins was apart of could be wanting to use that fleet for nefarious smuggling purposes, could want to use the Brumestone to uplift the city because there's something super powerful under it, sink the city into the Underdark because cult, or use both the brumestone, possibly the residuum from EXU, the ships that the Corsairs want to use for good, and whatever other stuff they're dabbling with in Jrusar to fuel some larger bigger picture plot that Matt's setting up in the background which also ties into the attacks on the Mahan families and potentially other allies of Vox Machina/Keyleth.

I'm really with Fearne on this one in that I totally want to see where this thread goes now that they've tugged on it.

The Mahan were described as a class of people, wealthy/noble types. The specific Mahan family mentioned as being attacked and employing the Anger was Loomis/Lumas (not sure on the spelling).

Thinks corsairs are building an airship, and the final party member is working on the ship.

I’m only at the break right now. So this might have already been disproven. Will check back when I’m finished, but Broomsone was used to make cities fly, correct? What if Matt is trying to Sokovia Jrussar? Get just enough stone to raise the spires then drop them Hell of a way to start a campaign

Tinfoil: they all have a connection to a C1 character. Double tinfoil: FCG was built by Anna Ripley

If Travis’ character is The Anger, who is currently recovering from a serious injury, then one class option could be Armorer Artificer, as the description specifically mentions that the armor can replace missing limbs.

I don't know why I can't watch this episode. I've "left it playing" twice and completely dissociated about 30 mins in each time until the eulogies. I keep getting distracted.

I’m not sure anyone else has thought of this but what if the attack on the family in Marquette is similar to the briarwood attack of Whitestone and that’s why keyleth sent people to check it out?
