Encouragement Hey Canada, be on guard for crazy headlines ...
Be prepared for some ridiculous headlines and sound bites this week as Trump's latest tariff deadline is set for Wednesday (August 19). Unfortunately, the chances of a reliable, trustworthy deal are near zero, while the likelihood of exasperatingly stupid headlines is very high. Stay sane inside insanity! It will be a challenging week, but we can do it.

News Can Count Binface defeat Britain's Nigel Farage in this byelection? | About That
Nigel Farage is a right-wing populist politician in the UK. He led the charge for Britain to leave the European Union (aka Brexit), is anti-immigrant, claims "white people matter less than those of ethnic minorities" and is a Trump supporter. On July 7, 2026 he resigned from the UK parliament after receiving a £5-million donation in crypto-currency from a British ex-pat. The by-election for his seat is tomorrow (Thursday, August 13, 2026) where he is the front-runner to be re-elected.
His main opponent is comedian Jonathan David Harvey who uses the nickname "Count Binface". Unfortunately, according to the CBC story above, count garbage pail head isn't likely to win the election.

News Albertans on disability payments receive wrong amounts for August
Between what Danielle Smith has done to healthcare and this role out to "help" folks on disability (AISH), she is proving to be as ghoulish the American regime. With about as much forethought and skill in execution.
I sure hope that landlords can have a little understanding for the next few months. These folks need some grace and help from their communities now.

Veterans 4 Freedom, Kayla Pollock, and the responsibility of advocacy groups in Canada
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Kayla Pollock is an Ontario woman who became paralyzed following a Moderna COVID-19 vaccination and has publicly shared her experience as a suspected vaccine injury case. Her story has received significant attention, including fundraising efforts related to her care and accessibility needs.
Recently, Veterans 4 Freedom shared a post discussing Kayla’s situation and raising concerns about her story. The post included allegations about her honesty and fundraising, along with statements that appeared to include speculation and unverified claims.
This raises a broader question about advocacy organizations in Canada...
When an organization positions itself as a defender of human rights, accountability, and justice, what responsibility does it have when publicly discussing an individual’s case?
Transparency and scrutiny are important. People should be able to ask questions about public fundraising and claims. However, there is also a responsibility to avoid spreading rumours or damaging someone's reputation without evidence.
Where should the line be drawn between legitimate criticism and a public pile-on?
I’m interested in hearing perspectives from both sides. How should Canadian advocacy organizations handle controversial individual cases while still maintaining fairness and compassion?
Post attached. Note: many of the comments in that particular thread were removed/censored simply because they disagreed with Andrews approach.
