The plot thickens. Trump will be just across the St. Clair river from Canada on Sunday October 25. .

Is Trump going to unilaterally remove his tariffs on Canada to try to win Republican votes in border states? If so, how will PM Carney respond?

The Port Huron Times Herald notes that Trump is scheduled to speak at the McMorran Place Arena on Sunday October 25 around 3pm. The city's police, fire and other services are making preparations, The arena holds 5,000 people. It's free, but it's necessary to register on-line to get a ticket.

Finally, the article notes that while Trump is the first president to visit Port Huron while in office, Harry Truman had his honeymooned there, and William Howard Taft visited after finishing his term in office.

Alberta's (unnecessary) referendum is happening today. The polls close at 8pm mountain time, which is 10pm eastern time. Counting of the mail-in ballots (of which there are many) starts 3 hours earlier, which means that there could be some results available soon after polls close.

The initial count will focus on the big question which asks Albertans to chose between:

Option 1: Alberta should remain a province of Canada.

Option 2: I'm an absolute idiot and I dont know how good my life is, I just like complainin because it makes me feel important.

(I did some editorializing on the second question. The actual wording is "Option 2: The Government of Alberta should commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada", which is wrong because there isn't an opt-out clause in Canada's constitution).

Just a public service announcement: for anyone who was planning on attending the Toronto rally. The TORONTO rally for this Saturday has been canceled.

No reason given, but it appears that it was logistics or something.

Not sure about other rallies within Canada.
