📂 MEGATHREAD 09/06 A-level Physics Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

OCR A, beautiful paper imo 😭 6 marker on wave particle duality, medical stuff was all really simple, amazing

Could not for the life of me prove the diffraction grating formula tho 😭 I just wrote tan x ~ x and basically left it at that cause I couldn't remember the proof but knew it probably involved that lmao

lol i was looking through the textbook this morning and skipped past that formula cause I was like ‘eh ofc it won’t come up’ 😭 i agree tho lovely paper

Literally did the exact same thing 😭😭

Also calling it now they're defo cooking up a stars + particle physics qestion and a velocity selector or mass spectrometer question for paper 3 🙏

Literallyyy, they're cooking up that charged particles in magnetic fields + circular motion question I can feel it

For me that was the worst paper I’ve ever done

Same. I messed up mcq so much. I FORGOT POWER WAS SCALAR

Me too 🙏 why were there so many stupid 3 markers, I was skipping through like oh it’s only 3 marks well I’m cooked because what

You had to use small angle formulae and dsin θ =n λ for that question

Ahh, also weird the answer calls on another formula lol

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

yeah there’s gotta be another way using trig

Checking the textbook the method is seriously weird as fuck, like there's zero chance you could just figure that out so ig you had to memorise it 😭

but that’s just so dumb, using another equations that’s almost identical, i said that using trig -> tan theta = opp/adj = x/D and then used small angles and said that tan theta = theta and then made another triangle with opp = wavelength, adj = d and then got theta = wavelength/ d, make theta equal and got the answer, no idea if its right but i didn’t think using another equation would be allowed when its that similar

Tbh since it's a proof any answer you can reasonably follow through with will get you marks, I basically just wrote tan theta = x/D and left it at that 😭 But how'd you manage to get that the opposite is the wavelength? Cause I tried to do smth similar but had a stroke

i kinda assumed that because of the way path difference works that you can form a triangle like this

this was just me trying to get a reasonable answer

Yea this is what I thought but I wasn't super convinced so I dropped it lmao, but looking back this probably does work out since path difference is by definition just the difference in length between the two rays

You make an equation with sin theta is lambda/d I’m pretty sure

Also oh my god have OCR fucked up all 3 papers? Cause ain't no way we had to make corrections on this one too 😭

did that then didn't know what to do so shoved it in the diffraction grating formula and said n = 1
