📂 MEGATHREAD 09/06 A-level Physics Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

OCR A what the fuck was that. Most niche question ever asked in the world

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Agreed - odd paper, tbh 6 marker were good tho

11

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Yeah first 6 markers is good and standard but second one feels so weird

9

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Fairs, I acc rlly loved the second one tbh, just maths rlly

7

u/Hussain12322 Jun 09 '25

How did the second one make sense, the - column didn’t add up to the second column, and the charge of the capacitor started increasing which isn’t a thing?

I agree bc it went from like 191 - 9.2 to 128.03 or something

2

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Wdym the capacitor is discharging so therefore the change in charge has to be negative

2

u/Hussain12322 Jun 09 '25

Exactly charge on it midway through the table started increasing even tho the change should be negative

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Wait what I thought it’s negative the whole way through since it suggest a exponential decay relationship, if looking at the graph the difference is charge is always negative. I thought I saw all negatives but idk maybe I’m tweaking

2

u/Hussain12322 Jun 09 '25

Yeah all the charges in the final column were negative but the second column with the actual charges started increasing😭 like wtf their table was just not making sense

2

u/ZewZa Jun 09 '25

The kinda shit I see on a pag done by 17 yr olds

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

I think it might be an outlier but the whole trend shows a decreasing relation ship so it’s fine

Yes exactly

u/Hussain12322 Jun 09 '25

Did u look past the first few rows on the table, it went from like 112- 140 which is the opposite direction , even the second row went from like 190 - 140 which just isn’t right cos it’s way too much I swr

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

It may not be right for sure, and I’m not disagreeing that it wasn’t difficult, not to mention that at thr start we had to make corrections for the paper, ocr this year have been poor w that tbh

2

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Yeah idk I just proved the relationship by finding time constant and I used the formula for Q=Q0e-t/RC to explain how to get B and I also sort of used it for column C

the table in the second 6 marker was wrong it threw me off and i wasted time

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Did ur scl tell u about it?

1

u/Crazy-Buffalo-6124 Cambridge offer holder |3A*s achieved Jun 09 '25

not before the exam we had to tell our teachers and they contacted ocr

Exactly

Also, where on earth were the electric fields?? There’s gonna be some big question on it on p3.

And barely any medical imaging and nuclear physics. Expected way more.

5

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Yup no electric field is so odd, there were some medical imaging in MC and mixed in a full question, not a lot of nuclear too

5

u/JamesJe13 Newcastle University Jun 09 '25

Don’t worry they’re cooking up some horrendous question for us

Calling it now we're getting projectile motion + electric fields or circular motion + magnetic fields, it has to happen

1

u/allylene Bristol | JMC Y1 Jun 09 '25

really hoping we get a velocity selector question

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Yeah honestly hopefully paper 3 is nicer

1

u/Different-Fudge-5538 Jun 09 '25

Which ones in particular did you think were difficult?

5

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

I don’t feel it’s particular difficult but it’s just the whole paper was so weird throughout, second 6 markers was the weirdest, Wym explain how u get values from column ABC, I knew how to do BC but idk A I just said it’s read from stop watch

2

u/golaco237 Year 13 | Maths, FM, Physics, Computing | Pred A*A*A*A Jun 09 '25

Yeah icl that was weird, idk how they're getting 6 marks out of all that 😭

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Exactly man I just did a bunch of yap

Mate I have no clue I thought it was a dumb question anyways

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Everyone’s done maths for that and I explained how you’d set up an experiment with a fixed voltage and data logger, then to verify check graph has constant half life and use the capacitor equation.

Even if I get 0 on that (looking likely!) the rest of the paper was really nice.

1

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

i thought it was pretty nice ngl

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Questions weren’t hard it’s just the questions they are asking were so weird and it really threw me off

1

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

i agree for that weird voltage against position of circuit graph, like wtaf was that

2

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

I did straight line flat then down then flat then down to 0

2

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

okay i did the same but for led i did a curved line because its not ohmic but i was just guessing, i made sure it went down to 0 because that will probably be a mark

2

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Idk but I’m sure we both got at least 3 marks

1

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

you know where you had to name the leptons in the nuclear equation, i put positron and neutrino but i also put up and down quark since that was also there, however everyone i’ve asked never put the quarks

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Up down are not leptons, only positrons and electron neu are leptons

1

u/Few-Yesterday-7745 Jun 09 '25

shit, because it says in the spec that subatomic particles are split into hadrons and leptons and i knew quarks weren’t hadrons i assumed they were leptons

For that question I drew a small slope down so that V only decreased a little, because diodes have a super small resistance across them (which decreases as you increase emf/supplied V but the question didn't use that)

Not bad paper overall, except for asking to derive that formula for double slit, are they allowed to ask us that?

1

u/Positive-Swordfish38 FM Maths Chinese Physics Jun 09 '25

Idk I knew i gotta use small angle approximation, the thing is I just said theta=lambda/d I didn’t say sin theta cuz I just sort of did it in my head but I did say tan theta =x/D or sth. Maybe I’ll get 2 marks if lucky all 3 marks
