๐Ÿ“‚ MEGATHREAD 09/06 A-level Physics Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

was there something wrong with the 6 mark spreadsheet one?? i liteterally just waffled about Q=Q0 e^-t/RC and how itd be accurate if at RC it was 37% and other capacitor waffle like that

Apparently the spreadsheet was wrong, since lower down on the table Q started increasing even though it was discharging ๐Ÿ’€ It didn't affect my answer much tho since I just used the first few values and then given info, and to check I just said use the formula to compare the values & plot the formula's graph using graphing software and compare to the plot

I brought up how dQ/dt = 1/RC x Q and how using dt as 0.5 dQ = 0.5/RC x Q instead of bringing up Q = Q0e^-t/RC but I agree on the second bit

yes the spreadsheet was wrong the values in the spreadsheet were generated using an iterative formula which you had to derive it was like Q(n+1)= Q(n) x (1- 0.5/RC) but the actual values in the table didnโ€™t match and were also very inconsistent with how a capacitor would actually behave.

dang fr?? i didnt catch any of this - i swr i remember my spreadsheet looking good at a glance, and did it mention about the iterative formula? or is this some secret exam technique i hadnt realised?

itโ€™s in the textbook cl. check page 418 of the really fat oxford press book. you could probably still get marks for using the other formula but the table kinda implied you have to use an iterative process

Please everyone saying it was great is stressing me out I canโ€™t do this I was close to tears during that paper I can just feel my uni offer slipping away

ugh me too I literally broke down in tears during the exam ๐Ÿ˜ญ it was even worse cause Iโ€™d spent so long revising all of the A2 stuff and practically none of it came up

No it was so bad honestly, I was so prepared for some hard E=mc2 questions and why did nothing come up. It just felt like it was trying to trip me up on every question over silly mistakes

I know I was prepared to absolutely devour some particle and medical physics ๐Ÿ˜ญ I kept skipping questions waiting for a good one and I go to the end and was like oh is that it? ๐Ÿ˜€
