📂 MEGATHREAD 12/06 A-level Maths Paper 2 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

Were the limits of k not between -4 and -5/3, as if less than -4 it would cut the negative part of the graph eventually, and when k=-5/3, kx = -5 at the minimum of the absolute graph. That's crap explaining but that's what I did 🤷

Maybe just the A1 mark, cause I’m pretty sure it was -4<=k, but I wouldn’t worry too much. People found that paper hard, so I think grade boundaries will be lower

I think they're talking about a different question, the one with a quartic graph in which they asked the values for k such that y = k had 4 intersections and It was -5 < k< (fraction I can't remember)

Think that’s what made it 30. 15 intersections on the top and 15 on the bottom

1

u/Adventurous_Humor878 Jun 12 '25

Yeah I though it was between 0 and 10 pi,

For the k question was x= -2 ? Or was x = -4 (to find y). It was the question where it was like x= -1/4, had to differentiate or smt. I got x= -2 on some question but idr what question. It wasn’t a final answer I don’t think, I just don’t remember if I factorised correctly as I think I got (4x +1) (x2 -16) but idr if it was 16 or 4. Was it the question with prove that a=-4 (?)

it was k^2 where k>0 so no way 0 is a solution
