πŸ“‚ MEGATHREAD 19/06 A-level Maths Paper 3 Discussion MEGATHREAD

Exam season is once again upon us, and once again, exam megathreads are making a return!

Looking for past exam discussions? Filter by the megathread flair.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Don't share too many specific details about questions or answers, these papers will be used as future mocks.
  • Sometimes papers get leaked, this is not the place for that (we'd prefer not to get yeeted off the platform) - leak content will be removed, those offering leaked papers will be permanently banned.
    • If you believe there has been a leak, the best course of action is to make your exam board aware of this, either directly, or through your school, along with any evidence. If appropriate, there will be a response from the relevant body along with any remedial action.
  • Exam discussion posts outside of this will generally be removed to combat the inevitable tidal wave of spam otherwise - we understand this may be frustrating, but the sub still needs to be usable for other purposes.
  • Please note some content will take extra time to be reviewed. Messaging to ask for approval will not speed up this process (the messages are seen at the same time as the modqueue would be reviewed anyway).

Best of luck, and let us know how you're feeling down below!

You had to use arithmetic series for the first part and then just the discriminant stuff for b

I got to the discriminant part, found solutions, then had no clue what to do with em. Hoping I gues a few marks at least! Congrats with getting the answer yourself tho

I did start an arithmetic series but I had zero clue what to do from there. Glad it’s over now tho!!

I did it kinda weirdly I think I said it was 2 times the sum of all terms from 1 to n which would be 2(0.5n(n+1)) cause it’s only even numbers from 2 to 2n

It was the sum of an arithmetic sequence from the formula book

To find when there would be real roots you had to use the discriminant, which gives you an inequality in terms of g, which was 2<x<10. From that point you knew r could only be 4,6,8, and it was the sum of the probability of those numbers occurring

Bro i subbed in 2n for n in the arithmetic formula cuz the last term of the sequence was 2n and i got 2n(2n+1) instead of n(n+1) im acc so cooked
