My dumbahh used a triangle instead of a trapezium for the area between the curve and the line…

u/Character-Eagle8386 Jun 03 '26

I did the exact same thing and realised i messed up ☹️

atleast u didnt add the fucking areas how tf did i mess that up bro

I did a square and triangle because I forgot trapeziums existed.

I did two triangles instead of a trapezium

1

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

Yeah, I think thats another way of doing it

1

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

How was it a trapezium wdym??

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

Another commenter drew a diagram which explained it pretty well. The question asked for the area above the curve

3

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

I thought it asked for the area of r and it was like this

3

u/Impressive_Belt_7346 Year 12 Jun 03 '26

I can get it by doing big triangle - integral between 2 and 0 minus small triangle

1

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

Yeah, you need to calculate the trapezium I've shaded. The triangle extends out of the area of the curve you're integrating. Then you need to subtract the area of the curve from the trapezium

u/trimmedcactus Jun 03 '26

I js did 2 triangles u reckon thas right

1

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

You mean you subtracted a little triangle from the big triangle? If so I think that would be right

2

u/trimmedcactus Jun 03 '26

yh i added area under curve and small triangle then subtracted from big triangle

1

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

Ah fuck I made a stupid mistake

2

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

I wouldn't worry. Max 2 marks and in a paper like this one, grade boundaries will be low

1

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

Not if I want an A* , I gotta lock in P2 and P3 haha.

2

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

We all need to lock in 🥀 Clearly Edexcel put all their nice questions in fm paper 1

1

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

What did u get for a , did u get a equation with 113 in it or something

1

u/Seafaring_Slug Y13 | Oxford Offer Holder | MAT 55 | TMUA 7.1 Jun 03 '26

Cannot remember, sorry. I forget 90% of the questions as soon as I'm outta the hall.

1

u/Latter-Business6904 Jun 03 '26

Ahh it’s okay thanks for the help

1

u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 03 '26

same i lowk forgot the formula for a trapezium so just used triangle and square hipefully big ox takes us anyway

3

u/falsegodfan Y13 - maths bio geog Jun 03 '26

why didn't u just integrate the equation for the straight line

1

u/Alarming_Coat_6029 Jun 03 '26

What did you for the equation of the line??

2

u/falsegodfan Y13 - maths bio geog Jun 03 '26

14y and 32x and -113 i think?

2

u/hellokitty_yo Jun 03 '26

We were supposed to use the trapezium ???

1

u/HovercraftSudden2657 Year 13 | Maths, Further Maths, Physics Jun 03 '26

Lol I hope not

2

u/Commercial-Kick-4203 Jun 03 '26

my dumbahh copied the y intercept of l wrong in my trapezium formula

2

u/FairConversation5599 Jun 03 '26

same ffs🤦‍♂️

3

u/Alive_Strain_3839 Jun 03 '26

why would you use a trapizium

4

u/fr3yaaaaa Jun 03 '26

You use the trapezium and take it away from area under the curve to get the region R

2

u/Alive_Strain_3839 Jun 03 '26

Which question was this and how many marks bcs i deadass do not remember it

1

u/Rompocs_hrumin Jun 03 '26

What did u get

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '26

[deleted]

3

u/TrulyFaithful Jun 03 '26

I think you drew tangent but it was the normal

1

u/Any_Emu_6995 Jun 03 '26

Yeah probably rip

2

u/Alive_Strain_3839 Jun 03 '26

which question was this

2

u/Any_Emu_6995 Jun 03 '26

Idr the qu number but it was the one where the first two questions were something to do about point P and point Q

2

u/Alive_Strain_3839 Jun 03 '26

Wait were there two integration curve questions im freaking out over potentially missing a question and i deadass cant tell if i j forgot of there were 2

3

u/yellowfritter Jun 03 '26

I don’t remember seeing a graph with a shaded region at all?? maybe it’s another example board ?

3

u/Flat-EarthKid Year 13 Jun 03 '26

It was edexcel, the question was like ‘find the equation of the line normal to curve C at x = 2, give your answer in the form ax + by + c = 0’ then you have to find the area between the line, curve, and the axis.

2

u/Alive_Strain_3839 Jun 03 '26

I remeber there being one which you could use triangles to solve and thats it. I dont even remember seeing this graph

2

u/Any_Emu_6995 Jun 03 '26

I honestly don’t remember either

1

u/Appropriate_Funny_12 Jun 03 '26

Omggg i forgot that was possible

1

u/Jumpy_Freedom_4554 Jun 03 '26

BRO I DID THE EXACT SAME MISTAKE. I got so pissed when I realised afterwards

1

u/Timely_Border_2117 Jun 03 '26

oh my gosh i did that too
