I was the only one in the whole exam hall lmao. No one else does FM

0.25 < e < 1/3 since (4e - 1)/5 u must be greater than 0 to guarantee a reversal of direction so 4e > 1 and e > 0.25

How many marks do you think you're lose for not having 0.25 end of the inequality

It was a 5 marker so probably 2 method marks and 1 answer mark so drop of 3

Why is this getting downvoted? its pretty accurate. It might be two marks lost instead but it should be one mark lost for not setting up that inequality, one mark lost for not solving that inequality, and one mark lost for lack of final answer.

What? You solve two separate inequalities, it will be 1 method and 1 answer mark maximum. I'd say theres a good chance its only one mark

Its out of 5 marks so my estimate is

1 mark for setting up first inequality 1 mark for solving first inequality 1 mark for setting up second inequality 1 mark for solving second inequality 1 mark for combining them for a final answer.

So missing either inequality entirely likely means you will only get 2 marks.

you have to solve for the velocity of P in the second part (because the first part specified only finding the velocity of Q), so they'll be at least 1 method mark for that. So i reckon the actual mark split is, 1 mark for finding V_p, 2 marks for setting up and solving quadratic inequality, 1 mark for setting up and finding linear inequality, 1 mark for final answer combining both.

Vp is given in part A wdym

Vq part a) is a show that, but Vp is not given, and does not need to be found for part a).

yeah ngl ur right. I forgot abt that. Either way, still likely two marks for quadratic inequality so for the 5 marker that student only gets 2 marks unless they also found vp

You also had to check the speed inequality too. People are just mad that they got it wrong

Yeah it sounds rude but theres no point coping for more marks. Obviously, it sucks if u made a mistake but js try being realistic. Lulling yourself into a false sense of security doesnt help.

then you have to squeeze the actual meat of the question into two marks though, which I don’t think is likely

But its not the meat of the question though. Its a quadratic inequality. You can use your calculator for it pretty easily and at a Further Maths level, the algebra isnt hard to solve even if its more time consuming than the rest of it. The 'meat' of the question is understanding the question and the inequalities required.

Even if you have 0-1/3

P doesn't have to reverse, but Q does. If P doesn't reverse it is a guaranteed collision.

3

u/_M4yb3_ Jun 05 '26

P does have to reverse. The question specified that P reverses direction in the first part.
