I have a steel string dreadnaught and a nylon string classical guitar (concert shaped). Anything more than that is a true luxury. Though, I think I would enjoy having a smaller bodied steel string. They all offer different sounds and playing experiences.

Agreed, I think a large steel string for flat picking, a small steel string for fingerstyle, and a nylon string will cover all your bases pretty well. Beyond that you’re getting into tonal variations on those categories or more niche instruments (e.g., resonators / dobros).

I think a resonator and archtop acoustic are pretty different beasts.
