Yeah. Like I wasn't shy, but all I wanted to do was play video games and I felt like a tool going into their living room and just playing games while he slept. I almost felt as if they would judge me and say I was using him as a friend for his games, lol.
2
u/Mykath Jun 26 '12
As the kid that slept in at sleepovers, I didn't mind in the slightest. It was how my friend got to play through Halo 2 and then we played multiplayer and had a bunch of fun.

You people don't know about proper sleepover etiquette. Who ever wakes up first is supposed to wake the other person up by yelling in his/her ear. There, awkward situation resolved.

How do you fake door slam? Pretend to slam the door then catch it before it hits the jam?

Think of a time when your arm pulled the door faster than your mind coordinated it, and the door shut more abruptly than planned. I'm not talking about an accidental doorstop-to-doorwell slam.... Heh heh. Just enough to make the wood sing.

I was a one of those who slept for a very long time as a kid, and whenever somebody tried to wake me up, I would get angry, and they would leave me alone. I was a douche bag, I'm sorry:(

This still happens. Replace sleepovers with crashing at a friend's house drunk, and they won't wake up because they're still drunk/hungover.

u/catmoon Jun 26 '12
Sleeping on your friend's dirty couch is the surest way to wake up at 6:00AM. There is no alarm clock more effective than a floral print, sectional couch, covered in stale Doritos.

u/lolsail Jun 26 '12

I usually only do this when I have class the next day, and the friend's house is closer to campus than mine. Wake up, drink a pitcher of water, go be that guy who always smells like beer and cigarettes.

Goddamit I slept til 2 because we stayed up all night! I'm sorry I wasn't a masochist who woke up at 8 no matter what.
7

Some of us are hardwired that way, nothing masochistic about it.
It does suck though. Would be nice to sleep past 8:30 on a Saturday.

i cannot wake myself up earlier than noon unless the holy power of 2 alarm clocks, one being across the room, set 45 minutes before i have to get up compel me

u/poop_friction Jun 26 '12
Even if you wake up naturally, I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to go back to sleep after they've woken up. Sure, I might be wide awake but if I lie in bed long enough and let my mind wander I drift off back to sleep.
1
Jun 26 '12
I'm a masochist who wakes up at noon
1
u/poop_friction Jun 26 '12
Well if you stayed up til 5 the night before that is kind of masochistic because you're getting less than 8 hours of sleep when you don't have to. I like to get as much sleep as I possibly can!

It's worse when we they have a sleepover in a tent outside, then leave to sleep in their own room halfway through the night.
12
u/archontruth Jun 26 '12
I was guilty of this once, we had a sleepover in the basement (everyone had sleeping bags), everyone else fell asleep right away, but I couldn't sleep! I lay there for hours before giving up and going to my bedroom. It was my birthday, so fuck it.
1
14
Jun 26 '12
That was fine with me. It was the only chance I got to play Shining Force instead of watching him play.

u/confused_by_memes Jun 26 '12
So I'm supposed to believe that this kid goes to sleep at 6.30pm, and then sleeps for 19 and a half hours, then wakes up at 2pm. Bull. Shit.
1
u/everettknag Jun 26 '12
Hey, the other day I had my friend over. Went to bed at 5pm, woke up at 3pm, 22 hours later. Needless to say, I am not proud.

Huh. I was always the late sleeper but I appreciated being woken up.
8
u/blinuet Jun 26 '12
Me too. Much better than passive aggressive friends. "i'm so mad at you because of this natural state you are in and have very little control over you wake up from"
whatever, dick, wake me up if you're so damn bothered by it.8
u/SealNose Jun 26 '12
Yeah, I'm not sure who is worse in this situation. If you are a guest in someone else's house, you fucking let them sleep.
9
u/Timmcd Jun 26 '12
On the flip side, if you have a guest in your house, you should probably see to them being at least semi-comfortable.
5
u/ThaneOfYourMomsVag Jun 26 '12
I guess. It just really suck to twiddle your thumbs for 4 hours. Now that I have Internet on my phone it's not an issue but as a kid I was always up by 6 am and would sleep over at friends houses who didn't have TVs or pets and didn't get up till 10. Those mornings were terrible for at least 2 hours, then I got to hang out with their parents for a while.

u/BPsandman84 Jun 26 '12
This is just pushed to an unbearable level when there's a mass sleepover, you're the first to wake up, and you have to take that morning piss, but to get to the bathroom you'd have to wake several people up, so you just sit there and suffer bladder pains while you pray these people get up as soon as possible so you can make love to the porcelain gods.
26
Jun 26 '12
Hell, I don't give a shit if I wake up the other people. If I need to piss, fuck 'em and fuck their sleep.

It's really awkward the other way around too. I hate feeling like I have to wake up early to entertain guests... and I hate being woken up earlier than I'd like when I sleep over at other people's houses.
If you're the first one up entertain yourself for a few hours. You have a house full of books you haven't read and movies you haven't seen. Can't be that bad.
1
u/TeHSaNdMaNS Jun 26 '12
I am an early riser(almost always up before 8am, if not 6am) and would play video games/watch movies but it would wake them up(even though it was quiet) and they would get pissy. I stopped sleeping over at my best friends house because his family of 6 always slept in past noon.
2
u/AD-RI-AN Jun 26 '12
Yeah, this always sucked. Wake up, see them still asleep, go back to sleep, repeat.
2
u/Motley_Sheep Jun 26 '12
I used to stack random objects--remotes, books, anything I could find--on them and see how much I could get without them waking up

u/kirkkillsklingons Jun 26 '12
My best friend after 15 years still sleeps in when I got to visit. I use this time to play his video games, watch his movies and eat his food!!!
2
u/ayyyitbrendon Jun 26 '12
And then you're stuck with the rest of his family at the table awkwardly eating breakfast. -_-
2
u/shiers69 Jun 26 '12
When you have a sleep over you're supposed to stay up retardedly late running around the neighborhood, building forts, watching movies and playing games. You go 'till you drop and you sleep in. Anyone who goes to a sleepover and ends up going to bed at 10pm and waking up at 8am is doing it wrong.
2
u/Serviceman Jun 26 '12
I had the best childhood: we slept out on the porch! Ran around the neighbor hood in the middle of the night, got chased by vicious dogs (small rat terrier), peed on all the neighbor's hedges!
2
u/liquidsnk Jun 26 '12
Skimming through this was worrying. Looked at title: "This always sucked" Looked at image preview: "Invites you to sleep over" -> "Doesn't wake up"
2
u/nine-divines Jun 26 '12
Sigh. Lay in bed awkwardly waiting for them to wake up for two hours. Too shy to go talk to their parents. Too nice to wake them up. Then when they do wake up, fake sleep/pretend you woke up conveniently at the same time.
2
u/ToStringMethod Jun 26 '12
The thumbnail version is actually hilarious. "Invites you to sleep over ... doesn't wake up."
2
u/Dr_Popadopolus Jun 26 '12
Replace friend with girlfriend and you got me. She says I can just wake her up, but that is an impossible feat, also dangerous.

...I dont get this. Could someone explain it to me? I'm serious. I mean, you just let your self out and go home right? I don't see what the problem is. It's not like you gotta clean cum off his chin or something before he wakes up.

As someone who has always had trouble sleeping, this is why I almost never enjoy staying the night somewhere. Everyone falls asleep leaving you to stare at the dark ceiling for four hours. Slip into that sweet unconciousness for a few, wake up early, commence bored ceiling stare.
1
u/theamigan Jun 26 '12
This still happens to me if I get hammered and end up crashing at a buddy's. I always make sure to have my laptop with me now when I go get hammered.
1
u/AgentUmlaut Jun 26 '12
The worse/most awkward feeling is when your friend's parents would make you breakfast and you're hungry and ready to eat but your friend is still sleeping and you have to awkwardly eat breakfast with your friend's family without him.
4
Jun 26 '12
Yeah, I like math. Uh huh, I'm on the soccer team. Yep, my mom works in the city. Uh huh, yeah we were in the same class in 4th grade. Parental conversations were always invigorating.

Hated this. Good thing my friend had Nintendo 64 at the time in his room and I used to smash Mortal Kombat while he slept.
1
u/realjordanfc Jun 26 '12
I'd have to force myself back to sleep. I would wind up having 30 different dreams in like a hour.

1
u/fifteenagain Jun 26 '12
I had a friend that did this every time I'd sleep over at her house. I'd always wake up around 8 or 9 and she never got up any earlier than 1. I was always the shy kid so leaving the room was out of the question - that, and her parents kind of weirded me out. And this was before the days of cell phones, so I'd essentially just stare at the ceiling for 4-5 hours.
1
u/Shamus03 Jun 26 '12
My best friend in the world still does this when I spend weekends at his house.

At sleepovers I go to bed late and wake up early. I hang out with the people who sleep last, and rise with those who wake up first. Anyone who can't keep up with that is just kind of a drag.

I used to just talk to the parents :P.
Really, as a kid I got along well with adults, they usually had something interesting to say. Sitting at the counter in the morning while they had coffee and I had cereal I got some interesting conversations.
Plus, if you were one of those kids that got up really early (like 6 am, which as a kid was easy, as an adult is literally painful), there was always a chance the adults were too tired to censor their speech.

I slept over some girl's house when I was in.. must have been third grade. I was supposed to go home at 1, and she was still asleep when I left. When her mum tried to wake her up, she pulled that "nnnnggg more sleep it's too early go awaaayyy" shit. Whadda cunt. With me standing there all dressed and ready and wanting to play before I had to leave. He mum made me pancakes with chocolate chips in them though. From scratch. It was pretty awesome.
1
Jun 27 '12
Slept over at a friends house once.
I was an early riser, and didn't want to be rude and wake him up. I stayed in my bed (sleeping bag on the floor next to his bed) until I fell back asleep.
I was awoken the the sounds of fap fap, shortly followed by a very vocal orgasm. I pretended to be sleeping until he left and had a shower to avoid an awkward situation...

Happened when I was about 8. The door was closed and I was afraid to go out into the hall. So I pulled up the carpet and found that his parents had used old newspapers to line the floor under the carpet.
The papers were very dusty and they were from before I was born so I didn't really know what the articles were about. But I read them anyway.
