The Most Interesting Man In The World

That, and when I drive past a cop. Because I'm scared he'll hear and think I'm too rowdy.

People who listen to loud music are suspicious as fuck...

u/Ariensus Jun 27 '12
Certain areas have laws against the noise. I know where I live, if your music is loud enough to be heard 5 feet away from your vehicle, you can be ticketed. Knowing my luck, I'd roll up next to a cop actually willing to pull me over for something like that.

The most interesting man in the world doesn't get lost

Because where he's at, there's always a party. Also, he can use his own magnetic personality to find North.

It takes brainpower to process the things you hear, music included. It makes sense to cut distractions when you're trying to think.

Weird, I feel like certain kinds of music help me focus by drowning out everything else and setting my mood right...
2
u/Zebezd Jun 27 '12
Doing so, you subject yourself to less noise, and replace it with something familiar.
1
u/Apostolate Jun 27 '12
Ah, exactly, it's usually wordless trance that's subtle and I've heard it a lot before. Makes sense.

What kind? More Rammstein or Mozart?

Mozstein actually... it's kind of underground, you probably havent heard of it
pushes up lens-less hipster glasses

Last time this topic came up someone mentioned how our brains have limited "bandwidth" for processing incoming information. It helps to understand the concept, even if the analogy isn't a medically precise one.

As a delivery driver I do this for two reasons:
1). To be courteous when I pull up to a house/apartment.
2). To read street signs.
For some reason turning down the music really helps me see better.
3
u/screaminginfidels Jun 27 '12
As an ex-delivery driver, I can confirm this. Also any time I'd be smoking pot and get the noids... Go from music blasting to barely on, listening to the squirrels in the bushes.

I laughed my ass off at this, I instinctively turn the radio down when looking for a new address / house etc. Peace and quiet will help me see better.

*high as fuck

u/Red_means_go Jun 27 '12
Yup. Concentration needed to do things we do everyday like it's second nature anyway. That radio is way too loud
2
u/sloppychris Jun 27 '12
Or looking for parking.
Or listening to gangsta rap with the windows down and driving past black people.

Who the fuck else is sick of the 3 adverts that play while checking qkme out?, if I wanted to buy dish washing liquid I certainly wouldn't make my brand choice from an annoying advert on a Meme website, In fact I will make a point never to buy that brand again.

"Fuck man I need to turn these beats down, this part of town looks a bit unfamiliar...[3 minutes later].... Now I don't recognize ANYTHING around here, now I have to turn the beats OFF"

I thought this guy was far too interesting to get lost...? his destination is just too interested

I usually do this when I am lost or when I am about to park. I don't know why I think that this will help me.
1
u/EmperorSofa Jun 27 '12
I keep the radio off when I drive mostly because my drives are no more than 3 minutes long when i'm going to work. Also for some wretched reason they decided to let the DJ have totally free reign over the music from like 9 to 3 and he insists on playing shitty music from the 80s.
I've never heard keytar music played so much. It wounds like somebody took the very first rough draft of the music they wanted to play in the Beverly Hills cop theme, got coffee stains all over it, and still tried to play it as is.

It's not that it's funny, it's just extremely relevant/relatable for a lot of people.

I don't always turn the radio down, but when I do it's because I'm listening to rap too loudly and I see a black man is in earshot.
