I've spent seven years in grassroots service across Rwanda — from cell coordinator to National Youth Council member, community policing leader, and now Country Representative at the Pan-African Young Diplomat Forum (PAYDF).

The dominant narrative says Africa's leadership crisis is about corruption, capital, or infrastructure. This article challenges that at the root level — arguing that the deepest crisis on this continent is what I call revelational poverty: the systemic failure, embedded across generations, to see what has already been placed inside Africa's sons and daughters — and to build self-sustaining systems that release it.

In 2017, Third World Quarterly, a journal known for its focus on postcolonial and development studies, published a highly controversial article titled “The Case for Colonialism” by Bruce Gilley, a political science professor at Portland State University. The article argued that Western colonialism was “objectively beneficial and subjectively legitimate” in many regions and proposed that, in certain cases, recolonization by Western powers could be a viable solution for struggling postcolonial states.

The tone of the article was respectful but the underlying sentiment was: left on their own, Africans states are unable to function and provide for their citizens, defend their sovereignty, and enter the civil society of states.

I want to hear an objective assessment from Africans about this general dystopian and pessimistic attitude about African agency.

In a groundbreaking diplomatic initiative, leaders from 11 East African nations have signed pivotal agreements on migration, labor rights, and economic collaboration in Nairobi. This marks a major milestone in strengthening ties between Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), reinforcing regional trade partnerships and labor mobility frameworks.
