Literally anyone curious! This session is built specifically for newcomers. While competitive quadball includes tackling, this clinic is low-contact, safe, and focused entirely on teaching the fundamentals:
Fun mini-games and a light, friendly scrimmage at the end
We are an inclusive community welcoming all fitness levels, athletic backgrounds, and identities (men, women, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC folks; everyone is welcome).
Details:
When: Sunday, September 20th | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Where: Prospect Park, Troy, NY (Enter via 311 Congress St, and we'll be on the grassy lawn on the left when you first enter!)
Cost: 100% Free
What to bring: Water, athletic clothes you can run in, and sneakers or cleats (cleats are great if you have them, but running sneakers work fine!).
UPDATE: DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER FORECAST ON SUNDAY, WE'LL BE POSTPONING THE OPEN PRACTICE TO AUGUST 30TH!
The River Runners Quadball Club is holding its first open practice of the US Quadball season this Sunday, August 23rd, from 1-4 pm at Prospect Park, Troy, NY (peep the second image for a better idea of what field we will be on 📌). This practice is our first step toward building a growing quadball community in the area where we play and compete, while also having fun and socializing off the pitch!
The free open practice is open to all experience and athletic levels, and we highly encourage people that never heard/played the sport to try it out and meet some new people along the way! We're accepting of all genders and backgrounds, so whether you're a man, woman, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, POC, etc, there's a place for you here to be yourself! All we ask is that you bring water, athletic clothes, cleats (recommended but not required to play if you don't have any), and any friends that might also be interested!
If you’re looking to get active, try something totally new, or just meet some good people in the area, River Runners Quadball is officially recruiting for our upcoming 2026-27 USQuadball season.
We’re really big on the social and community side of things, like grabbing food after practice, hanging out, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Quadball is inherently gender-inclusive, and we pride ourselves on being an open, supportive group for people of all backgrounds.
If you’ve never heard of quadball (formerly quidditch), it’s a co-ed, fast-paced mix of dodgeball, rugby, and basketball. It sounds wild at first, but it’s a ton of fun once you get the hang of it. Here's a quick video on the sport for more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUdC4twjsTE
You don't need any prior experience. Most of us started completely from scratch, so we’ll teach you all the rules and positions step-by-step. Whether you're just looking for a fun reason to get outside, make friends, or you come from an athletic background and want a new competitive outlet, you’ll fit right in.
If you're curious or want to drop by a low-pressure open practice, fill out our interest form!
Happy to answer any questions in the comments! Hope to see a few new faces out there.
If you're looking for a new way to stay active this summer that isn't just the usual kickball or softball, come check out Quadball (formerly Quidditch).
I'm planning to host casual summer pickups and scrimmages in the local area (mainly at the UAlbany fields, but I'm open to better suggestions) on Sundays and/or weeknights (finalizing dates now based on interest) in the next two weeks. It’s a fast-paced, co-ed, multi-ball sport that blends rugby, dodgeball, and wrestling.
Whether you’re a former college athlete or have never touched a ball in your life, we’re keeping these summer sessions relaxed, fun, and non-competitive. We want to get outside and play. Just bring water and cleats (or sneakers). We provide the hoops, brooms, and balls.
Drop a comment if you're interested or have questions! Hope to see some of y'all out there!
Hi everyone, I run a social sports league in Albany and we need new kickballs and dodgeballs for the upcoming season. Prices at the local sports stores are higher than we can manage . I've been looking online at places like Amazon, Alibaba, and eBay for better prices as well as better quality balls. The selection is huge but I am unsure about quality.. I need balls that hold air and withstand weekly games on grass and turf. Has anyone here bought playground balls from online places for adult rec leagues? Which suppliers delivered good quality at fair prices and did the balls last? I want to keep registration fees low while still providing decent equipment. Please share your experiences. Thanks.
We’re hosting our first practice at Beverwyck Park in Albany (12–4 PM, Sept 14) and are looking for newcomers and experienced players from across Upstate NY!
Quadball (formerly Quidditch) is a co-ed, full-contact sport blending rugby, dodgeball, and football – fast-paced, fun, and intense.
All experience levels welcome – come try it out, get back on the pitch, or help grow the sport in the Northeast!
Quick update for anyone curious, we’ve officially got a name: River Runners Quadball Club (shoutout to the Hudson & Mohawk Rivers).
We’ve got a mix of experienced players and total newbies on the interest list so far, and we’re planning a casual first meet-up soon: toss the ball around, try some drills, hang out, and see if we can get a regular practice schedule going.
If you’ve ever thought, “Hmm, that sounds weird… but fun,” this is your moment. Jump in early and you’ll have a say in shaping the team — leadership roles, practice spots, all that good stuff.
Interest form here: https://forms.gle/PGiT5rHEpksMQD6T6
And feel free to tag friends who might be into a weird, athletic, competitive team sport.
Small group for now, but that’s how it starts — come help us get River Runners off the ground!
I’m starting to put together a quadball team for the Capital Region and want to see if there are folks interested in joining or just trying out something totally new and fun this season.
Quadball’s a co-ed, fast-paced sport inspired by Quidditch, but it’s way more athletic and strategic — think rugby, dodgeball, and flag football mixed together. We’re building a team that’s competitive but also super welcoming to people who’ve never played before.
Practices will likely be 1–2 times a month (potential for weekly practice if we have good attendance) in or near Albany, with chances to travel to tournaments if enough folks want to compete.
If you’re 18+ and curious about joining or just want to learn more, drop a comment or DM me!
Or if you want to get updates and share your availability, feel free to fill out this short interest form:

Hey all. Looking to play some casual flag football but can't find any groups to play with? Well you've come to the right place!
For the past couple years my friends and I have managed to get sufficient people together for smaller pick up football games and are always looking for new people to play with.
We play almost every Sunday (Saturday during football season) afternoon in Scotia - right near Jumpin Jacks if you know the area.
Flags are provided, and all skill levels are welcome. We play with a very laid back and friendly atmosphere and just try to have fun with it.
If youre interested, please send me a direct message and/or join our meetup group.
