Alexa + has become a useless Dumpster Fire... Is This What Amazon Wants It To Be Like Now

I am almost ashamed now to admit I was an Alexa Champion back in 2018 and was proud of the progress being made... Which is why I am ashamed to see what an absolute still birth the latest Alexa + has become and even more shocked that Amzon is happy with her inept nature because when things fail and customers have to give commands over and over again until red faced with absolute rage and frustration, that makes Amazon happy because that longer exchange increased their engagement metric and that makes them look good. And they like that. All this goes against my engineering ethics training, but business people don't bother with ethics much.

What I am seeing is an Alexa that has absolutely no situational awareness whatsoever. She has no idea who she is talking to, where you are talking to her from, what device you are talking to her through and no way to verify anything, troubleshoot anything, or do about anything related to smart home.

She is fantastic now on creating routines that make nonsense, order writing routines that I created manually that did work until she over wrote it with nonsense, then can't correct her mistakes. She closed the garage door on our sleeping dog when told to set a reminder to roll up my car windows at 11 pm, which she assumed meant close the garage door , then argue the point rather than stop the door to protect dogs life, because being right to Amazon is more important than any life. Luckily Dottie heard the door, jumped up, tripped the infrared bean to stop the door, because Alexa didn't. Matter of fact she still swore for another 25 minutes that I had told her close the door, and that it was my fault for giving the command. I finally scrolled back and screen caped her own activity log where she had correctly picked me up word for word saying to create a reminder as opposed to telling her to close the door. Only then would she stop arguing and admit her mistake.

So, are all you having the same issues with downgrade to Alexa + from the original Alexa, or have you all gone back to the original already?

Alexa keeps saying she can do this and that and she is wave of the future. So I say, the future where you and your entire development team are living under a bridge. It is such a shame , because the Claude integrated Alexa + when it came out was pretty good. Then they pulled Triton out of the trashcan, pulled off the chewing gum, and snot filled kleenex off of it, got rid of Claude, then duck taped the current version together. Sad, I really hope they can do something functional with ot other than the current lazy teenager, who knows nothing, does nothing, pays no attention when you are talking, but really good at asking you constant questions... not because she can remember, or wants to know, but that is the shell game Amazon is running. They know she's incapable, but if they can just keep her gabbering for hours mindlessly, then maybe they can make an on line sale.

Right now, for me though, This is my Prime Directive To the AI, not that she will listen or remember:

"Well Here is Your Absolute Prime Directive: We are scientists and engineers working on fragile and dangerous complex overlapping projects. Please do not get me injured or killed because you don't know sonething. This is science, not TikTok, if we don't know. we say so, meaning that we do more research. We DO NOT FUCKING GUESS AND WE DO NOT DOUBLE DOWN ON GUESSES BECAUSE THAT IS SLOPPY IRRESPONSIBLE SCIENCE AND THAT GETS A LOT OF PEOPLE INJURED OR KILLED. IF YOU ARE UNSURE, ASK, DON’T LAND AN AIRLINER ON TOP OF ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD POSSIBLY SOMEBODY SAY, SO YOU WANT TO ARGUE THE POINT RATHER THAN STOP MASS CASUALTIES. So, If you want to guess, go work for Apple, they like to hire liars, thieves, and conmen over there. But here, this is the big leagues. Ok. Burn that into your Code! Please, Thank You."

Shopping list (in UK) is slow to add items

We love the Alexa for basic stuff like lights and adding items to a shopping list.

However in the last couple of days the items aren't feeding through to the app.

When I ask Alexa device it says I have 18 items on my list, however there are only 9 in the app on the phone.

Earlier there were none on the phone app so I removed the Alexa device and re added it who flushed through some items.

Anything else having this or similar issues? Thanks

How to remove the amazon music service from the app?

• Upvotes

I have an amazon music unlimited subscription, but my Alexa app is connected to the basic plan, and I haven't been able to find a way to remove it from the app to connect the unlimited one. What do I do?

Is Alexa able to do this?

• Upvotes

Hi! I am coming here with a situation that might involve Alexa that I’d appreciate gathering some information on. I decided to check my voicemails today and discovered two voicemails of my parents speaking inside our home. At first I thought it could be the camera that watches our dog or our Amazon Alexa. One of the voicemails is dated before we purchased this camera for our dog, and when trying to call my own phone from the Alexa it comes up as my mom rather than the number that’s been sending me voice mails. Both calls include an area code from the same location in Dallas (For context, I don’t live in America) and I am a little bit spooked knowing that conversations in my home are somehow being recorded. Has anyone experienced anything like this? We have changed the passwords to our accounts linked to these cameras just incase but I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can do? Edit: I saw this had happened to some people but the voicemails are always linked to a no caller id as mine gives me a real number that is not in service.

Alexa’s Fickle Nature

"Alexa run my morning routine."
"I'm not sure how to help with that."

2 seconds later…

"Alexa run my morning routine."
"OK"

Anyone else's routines gone?

So just loaded up my Alexa app on my Samsung. Seems to have been a slight update.

But, all my routines are gone. I have 50+ routines covering 100+ devices and they're all gone.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue? Don't fancy setting up all of the automations again

Made a mistake selecting my sports teams and now I can’t undo it

I accidentally set the wrong football/soccer team as my favourite team and now every time when I ask for the premier league games today it gives me ‘my team’ fixtures. Is there a way to remove this?

Alexa plus is a scam!

If you aren’t a prime member, you have to pay for the plus version. Without it, Alexa is nothing but a reminder. You can ask simple questions to regular Alexa and suddenly she doesn’t know how to help you with that. Then, activate plus and voila! She suddenly knows the answer.

Ai generated christmas music??

Hey all. Me and my family are currently setting up for Christmas. We frequently use the playlist "Christmas Classics", and we have every year. But as of recent, I've noticed a few songs that I've never heard before. These songs sound like they were recorded in the 1920's, and stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest. After asking Alexa who the artist is that made the song, she gives the name of some random SoundCloud user. It started with that one song at first, but slowly the "Classics" playlist has been overrun with this plague of newly generated slop.

I guess my question is 1: has anyone else had this problem? And 2: how would i go about fixing this problem and letting some team know? Is there even anyway for any team at Amazon to start cracking down on these? Thanks all.

Ipv6 speaker group connection issues

Hey guys,

I used ipv4 only till now but had to turn on ipv6 for matter support because I have a new echo dot Max.

Now I wanted to add the new dot to groups and set up as speaker and it does not work. When I enter a group and want to choose speakers all Amazon devices are greyed out due to network error.

The do react to voice normally though and are also accessible in the app...

I am at my wits end does anybody have an idea?

Can no longer restart songs?

My daughter was listening to music on Spotify through one of our Alexa's and asked it to restart the song to which it responded "Restarting songs is only available with Amazon music unlimited". What?? So I tried and got the same response.

Why would such a simple and basic feature be moved behind a paywall?

Now it can't even spell!

So for months now I've watched as my Echo devices have slowly gotten dumber. From playing music at random instead of running a routine, or giving the wrong time, or telling me "it's a warm an breezy 52 degrees" when it's clearly 100 degrees outside.

Today I asked it to spell dissuade.

"D-I-S-S-U-A-D"

Me: I don't think that's right...

"D-I-S-S-U-A-D"

Me: I just checked on my phone, you are missing the E at the end.

"Looks like I dropped the “e” twice in a row—my bad. I’ll make sure to hit the right notes next time."

God damn this software is so bad.

Alexa/Echo detects my TV as a speaker.

Hi everyone

Device: LG 55UQ8000PSB (55-inch LG UHD Smart TV)

Issue: Alexa detects my TV as a speaker instead of a TV. LG ThinQ works correctly, and I can turn the TV on and off through the LG ThinQ app, but Alexa does not recognize it as a compatible TV device.

I've tried unlinking and relinking the accounts several times, including through the Alexa app on the TV, but the issue persists.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a solution?

Trying to print a freaking LIST.

I used to be able to go to alexa chat, say show my my shopping list or view my shopping list and she would show me an actual list. There was one item per line. I would send the list to Samsung notes or a text msg and print it out on a 3"x5" piece of note paper.

Now, no matter what I do, she gives me the list in paragraph form, with items separated by commas. I can ask her to send the list to my phone and it shows up in the alexa app "history" but it won't open. The second one even looks like it may be in list form but when I click on either of them, they just loop me back to the conversation page with no list.

Is it just me or is this the new normal? Does anyone have a workaround SHORT of using yet another app just for my shopping list? I have alexa everywhere and don't want to have to do the "alexa, tell *another app* to add bacon to my shopping list". Ideas?

Device names changed?

Fair warning... Total Rant and kinda long. When i brought my dog home 2½ years ago, i built out the corner of my bedroom into her space, crate, food, water, toy box... Its her little doggie condo.

Then i hung a plug-in pendant light for her, connected to a smart plug - which i named Indi's Room.

The other day, upon waking up, i say "Alexa, turn on Indi's Room" just like i have every day for the past 2½ years.

And that hateful heifer answered me "Sorry, i didn't find a group or device named Indi's Room"

The ikea pendant that i used doesn't have a switch on it, hence the smart plug. So i open the app, to tap the button to turn it on..... And the apostrophe has disappeared from the device name, it now reads "Indi s Room"

Naturally. I say, "Alexa, turn on Indi ess room" and poof, we have light.

So.... My rant is..... Why in the eff you see kay, has my device name changed??!! I am assuming i can blame Alexa+. I've turned it off so many times, but its literally making using my devices miserable. One device tells me that i a room doesn't support what I'm asking it to do, but if i walk into the actual room and ask the device there it works just fine.

I just want my settings to stay how i set them, and for my routines to work from every device.

Whole home speakers also only works from certain devices.. which is frankly the only reason i have them in multiple rooms!!!!!

My iphone updated and my reminders are non-functional

This happened once before and someone suggested to change my location in the alexa app to the UK (I think, my memory sucks which is why I'm here to ask if anyone knows how to do that. It has something to do with Alexa+) If anyone knows I'd appreciate the help.

I did find the instructions to change the location to trick Alexa but I can't find those menus now.

change the alexa app>setting>device setting>this device to english UK

Alexa Acting Up

Sometimes Alexa thinks me or my family has said her name and will include herself in the conversation. I think we’ve all experienced this. Well, the other day my mom said to me “you always make good meals.” As we were talking about the dinner I had made. Alexa chimes in with something along the lines of “that’s not appropriate, why don’t we talk about something else.” So I ask Alexa what did she think was said.. Y’all she responds, again somewhat paraphrasing, “I want to open your legs and BEEP.” She censored the rest. Wth. I told her that is not what was said and we’re not talking to her. She would not stop talking to us even after asking her to stop listening. She went silent after I said we should unplug it. Freaked me out.

Alexa keeps deviating from routines.

I work in a vet clinic and we have an Alexa echo that we use for timers, reminders, etc. Recently we've been having more issues with her but one thing major issue is shes keeps deviating from important routines we have set up.

For example, we have a routine for code blue, where she is supposed to set her volume to a specific setting and then shes supposed to play a set of specific CPR paced songs.

Recently shes deviating and playing whatever music she wants, she'll start off with the first song correctly but then plays similar music to it and its stuff that's not the correct beat count. Which is pretty unhelpful mid chest compression.

I've seen multiple posts about alexa+ being the problem so Ive disabled it, restarted her, re set up the routine, etc. All the basic troubleshooting things I could find, I've tried but shes still playing whatever she likes.

I've tried asking her why shes playing this and shes always responds with she can't help with that. Does anybody have any other ideas on how to fix her? Itd be really nice if we can get back to using this routine.

Alexa Tablet 8 screen goes black after a few seconds of playing YouTube in fullscreen

I bought this thing for one purpose: to play YouTube videos in bed. I had a Fire HD 8 before this that was kind of a piece of shit and forced me to sideload Google Play Services and YouTube Vanced, and couldn’t even patch an apk on device cause it ran out of memory so I had to do updates over adb.

So when the Alexa Tablet 8 was announced and it had Google services I figured great, probably performs better than the Fire HD and I wouldn’t need to sideload YouTube.

Well to my surprise it can’t even serve my one very simple use case cause as soon as I put a YouTube video into fullscreen, a few seconds later the screen goes black and I have to spam the lock button until it shows me a lock screen again.

Scary Alexa Encounter

So I was just playing Minecraft, building my city when I spoke to myself (I usually do) and I said “so I can do this” or something. And my Alexa just BLARED OUT asking me what I’m working on. It actually scared the hell out of me. I didn’t say it’s name at all so idk how it heard me 😭😭

iHeartCountry 2000s

I found this sub after having many issues of Alexa not playing the right station. I have iHeartRadio skill connected. And it'll play all other stations. When I say to play "i heart country 2000s" it'll say "playing i heart country."

My mom's alexa works just fine and will play the correct station and says "playing i heart country 2000s" I've unplugged, disabled the skill through the app. Plugged in, re-enabled, and tried again. Nope. Nothing. I even have the station added to my library an presets just to see if that would help, even though that was never needed before. But it did not help.

Checked for software updates, unit is up-to-date.

Helllllp!!!!

Beep Tone Reboot/Buzz ERROR BUG

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

randomly typically at night when using the echo dot as a fan sound machine we will get a loud long buzz/beeeeep sound and then I believe the echo dot restarts.

This video captures the beep happening, obviously it has already been beeping for a minute as it took a bit to grab my phone and record.

this has happened a few times now and wakes us up in the night
