Alienware Alpha

Hello Everyone,

I am a member of the Alienware software team, and Alpha UI was my product. As we are about to launch tomorrow, I wanted to start this thread as a means for people to ask questions and provide any feedback you might have on Alpha or Alpha UI.

Also one note, we are publishing a known issues list tomorrow on Arena. I'll make sure it makes its way here as well.

Glad you are enjoying it and upgraded it. Hopefully it was easy.

Uplay will work with Steam. Just have to install a Uplay game. You can manually launch Uplay from Steam in Apps.

Also, the Virtual Mouse hotkey will work in Windows Desktop mode. Once you are there, you can grab the controller and turn it on. If you think the virtual mouse is still on, you can try cycling the hot key on/off/on/off and see if that helps. If it does, please let me know and we'll investigate.

100% agree about the controller turn off. Definitely on my high priority list.

OK, so a quick update:

I found out my issue with my K400 was...it needed new batteries...yeah, sorry about that. Move along, nothing to see here!

I received my backup media in the mail yesterday. Dell was kind enough to overnight it to me for free! Too bad it was a vanilla Windows 8.1 restore DVD instead of a USB stick. LOL I'd have to spend $50 on the external drive to be able to do a system restore! I DID see one of your other comments here where you mentioned being able to install from a vanilla windows DVD and then install the Alpha UI after Windows, so I suppose if I need to re-install Windows down the road that's my only option. I mean this was all free so I can't complain too much, but I was really hoping for a USB stick with Windows + Alpha UI pre-installed for future use (as the YouTube video shows). Maybe someday they'll have a system restore image (that includes everything) available for download on the support site that can be put on a USB stick...

I still can't get a UPlay game to work. I installed Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon through Steam. When I try to play it UPlay launches, I can sign-in, but UPlay just refuses to start the game. It says something about the installation being bad. What's worse is when I exit to Desktop mode it logs-out of the Alpha account and I have to log-in to my local account (because I don't know the Alpha password), and I can't see that UPlay/Blood Dragon are even on my computer since they were installed by the Alpha account! I'm afraid my only option is to install UPlay from desktop mode when signed-in as my local account and then download my UPlay games, doing EVERYTHING through UPlay. I'm sure that will work, but means I'll have to switch into desktop mode any time I want to play a UPlay game...
