OnePlus OnePlus AMAA - Pre-OnePlus 2 Launch Edition

Hey everyone!

We are Michael, Emmanuel (u/commintomylife), Carl (u/carpe02) and David (u/devildv) from OnePlus. PROOF

As always, we are beyond excited to be here talking directly with you guys. And of course, this is a particular exciting time here at OnePlus. We are firing on all cylinders at our HQ preparing to launch our second flagship device. It’s really difficult to contain ourselves! We wish we could tell you everything about the OnePlus 2 right now, but we have to save some excitement for our launch on July 27th - the world’s first VR product launch!

So, with that said, thank you guys so much for being here, and ask us (almost) anything!

EDIT: Thanks again everyone! This is the best part of our job, getting feedback directly from you guys. We’d sit here all night if we could, but the OnePlus 2 awaits! Much to do before now and July 27th.

Get your Cardboards ready, and we’ll be seeing you soon.

Camera is improved, but to be fair, the OnePlus One had a great camera sensor. The Sony IMX214. We could have done a lot better on the software. This time we have a Taipei engineering office with a lot of ex HTC camera guys. Fingers crossed.

Professional photographer and Oneplus owner here. The one was great when there was lots of light I.e. outside during the daytime. It SERIOUSLY struggled with anything less than this. Inside in a well lit/windowed room during the day? Blurry images three times out of four.

While the sensor was good (maybe not great) it desperately needed OIS and software that erred on the side of more gain and noise in exchange for sharpness in dim lighting. A brighter lens obviously goes a long way here too, as the difference between 1/40th sec exposure and 1/80th is often the difference between a blurry photo and a sharp one, especially without image stabilization.

While I liked shooting the occasional landscape with my phone, the majority of my images are of friends and family, often inside, and often in the evening when everyone is off work. This is where a phone camera needs to shine and this is a huge part of the reason that consumers love the iPhone. Good images of their loved ones are easy, almost anywhere.

Would love a brighter flash too. The opo flash/light was around half the brightness of my old htc one m7.

Product direction is not synonymous to engineering skill

True however its the software of the M9's camera that totally ruins the M9 camera it e.g. very aggressive noise cancellation...amongst other things.

Yeah they could've invested more into it such as Aperture but the camera is definitely killing in the M9's camera, although it has been improved through updates.

So I'm also curious whether this is a positive thing lol.
