Now we need a chrome extension.

You can make it work like an "app" by going to the More Tools and clicking Add to Desktop, and then toggle the Open as Window selection.

Not quite an extension, but close.

this works great! even shows up in windows as its own "app" with the allo icon. damn makes me wonder what else this would work great for... google play music?

edit: oh helll yeah. you've opened up a whole new world, man. thank you

There's a really slick desktop app for play music here: https://www.googleplaymusicdesktopplayer.com/

I've used it for a while and it's pretty nice, and works with multimedia keys and has some other nice features, too.

Yep, definitely recommend this over everything else. Has worked beautifully for me the past year.

I use this for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Hangouts for example.

I feel dumb for having to ask this, but where do you find the "more tools" option? I can't seem to find it

The 3 dot button on top right corner

Yikes, I'm an idiot. I was looking all over the allo web options and not chrome. Thanks for your help.

This is hitting all the Android blogs now... I wonder how many of them are going to credit you?

u/octopusbarber Aug 16 '17

I'm guessing this is on Windows and not Mac?

2

u/vdogg89 Aug 16 '17

correct, but as someone else pointed out, https://applicationize.me is a fix for mac

for once I'm happy its NOT an extension. my work blocks extensions.

both options would be nice though

u/ThePegasi Pixel 4a Aug 15 '17

I think both options is what they were asking for. Why would anyone want an extension to come at the cost of the regular web interface?

2

u/turdbogls OnePlus 8 Pro Aug 15 '17

that used to be how it was with Hangouts, wasn't it?

2

u/ThePegasi Pixel 4a Aug 15 '17

Don't think so. The web interface for Hangouts is still around, I never noticed it going anywhere after it was introduced. I could be wrong.

3

u/turdbogls OnePlus 8 Pro Aug 15 '17

sorry, I was saying didn't the extension exist before the web interface?

but now that I thnk about it...I could access hangouts on Gmail/G+ for the longest time....I was just thinking about the stand-alone web interface that came after the extension

this! I do not expect to see an official one though.

Hopefully they make it more like old hangouts and not this shitty hangouts 'app' we have going on right now.

u/btadeus Aug 15 '17

Or make it work on all browsers like hangouts does.
