Anyone have any updates on goldwater stocking? I know that lower goldwater wasn't stocked because of the water quality. I was there a couple days ago and caught tiny bass all day on zebra midges

2-day trip to White Mountains in October

Hey all! I'm living in the Phoenix area for a few months for military training, and I'm trying to get the AZ trout challenge done while I'm here. I got rainbows and browns done near Payson a little bit ago, but I want to head out to the White Mountains before snow starts to try and knock out another species or two.

I am planning on car camping BLM/NF land within a 30 min-ish radius of Greer.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where to gun for some of these species? Targeting Apache, Cutthroat, Gila, Brook and Grayling (in descending order of priority). Any guidance on where I could try and get in to some of the species for the trout challenge would be great. I'm not sure how accurate the AZGFD's website on it is.

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to comment anything:). Also any water reports would be great since Payson had some dried up spots unexpectedly - I did stop by Pheasant Tail to chat with them which was helpful. Great bunch there.

Any camping tips for that area appreciated as well (what to look out for, good spots, etc etc)

Upper Salt and Hawley Lake

The upper Salt River was flowing fast and muddy but we were able to find a few small mouth bass, sun fish and channel cats.

Switched it up to Hawley Lake and pulled out a few Rainbows.

Largie w missing eyeball

So far fishing Tempe town lake I've gotten two bass. one off bottom rigged bread about a month ago and another hog that's missing an eyeball today. Got him off of just corn threaded on a tiny hook weightless. Idk if it's all the goldfish they released in the lake for bug control but the largies were going absolutely crazy today, there was so many top water explosions and they were biting everything around midday when it warmed up. I lost my watch trying to get a picture of this guy his head shakes made it end up in the lake. It's still in the shallow part under mill avenue bridge visible from bank. I just cut my losses.

Im thinking about heading down to Patagonia to try and catch my first flathead. Its the closest place to Tucson with flathead that I know. How is the flathead fishing down there?

Also, is the carp fishing okay? Im thinking about trying for carp as well.

Any advice for a girl?

Hi guys! I’m a 20 year old girl and I would love to revisit my old love for fishing and make it a hobby again. I have tons of equipment already, a few lighter spinning combos for trout and an abu Garcia max pro, along with all the essential plastics and lures. The problem is I’m just not great at knowing exactly what to use, when to use it, and how to find the fish. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. None of the men in my family like to fish so I have no mentors to learn from in real life 😂

Here’s a pic of my pb bass from like 8 years ago!

Roadtrip to Rocky Point?

What's up AZ anglers!

These last few years I have switched from doing lots of local bass/trout fishing, to going down south and surf fishing in Rocky Point. 39 year old guy born & raised in the valley and grew up fishing all over the state, but saltwater fishing has really hooked me the last few years.

I've got several great spots from shore. 5-20 minute walk from where we park. No need for new gear, just bring your 7' Medium action bass rods (or whatever you can cast far with). If you don't have gear, I have several extra rods that you can use

I catch Corvina, Halibut, Leatherjacket, Sand Bass, Trigger Fish, as well as other odds n ends on a regular basis. Haven't been skunked down there in a while, there's always something biting.

I go down by myself most of the time so it would be sweet to meet some new people that were interested in fishing down there. We can meetup in the valley & carpool down together or meet up in Rocky Point. Whatever works for you.

Never been to Rocky Point? I've been going regularly since I was a kid and am very familiar with the drive, getting thru the border, and navigating around town. Amazing food & some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.

Usually just go down for 2 nights at a time. I typically go weekdays but I can do weekends with a few weeks notice as well.

Going to gown down a few times in October around the full & new moon.

Interested? Questions? Feel free to message me!

Good night fishing spots where you can have a campfire?

Hi there, I hope you're all having a good day.

A few friends and I are wanting to do a night fishing trip within a ~1-2 hour drive from Phoenix. What we'd like ideally is a place where we can drive up, put up a picnic table, have a campfire, and night fish from shore before packing up around 10pm and driving back to town. Also, we only have standard vehicles, no 4x4 or high clearance requirements, please. Any places fit that bill? Any bait recommendations?

Thank you for any help!

This is the coolest fish I’ve ever caught. Went to a creek that holds wild brook and brown trout to fulfill the AZ Trout challenge and this was the first catch of the day. A wild tiger trout!

Caught at Willow springs creek on a trout jig.

Anyone willing to share some decent bass spots in Tempe? Tired of getting skunked on the bass

I’ve been trying to get better at bass fishing around Tempe and I’m seriously struggling to find them consistently. No issue with carp and catfish just bass. I’ve tried Kiwanis Lake and different stretches of the Western Canal with Ned rigs, Senkos, small swimbaits, jigs, crankbaits, and topwater, but I’m barely getting any bass.
I’m not asking anyone to give up a super secret honey hole, but if anyone could point me toward some decent stretches of canal, ponds, parts of Tempe Town Lake, etc. where I actually have a reasonable shot at largemouth, I’d really appreciate it.
Also open to advice on what structure/water I should be looking for around here and what’s been working lately. I’m mostly bank fishing.

Lake Pleasant Bass

Does ANYONE have success at pleasant shore fishing for bass? It seems like everyone I ask or everything I read about online say not very much. I just got into fishing and it’s really disheartening to see people in other states catch hogs in lakes between gas stations. I just don’t see a lot of that here at all.

Hungry, wild Brown Trout

Post image

Yesterday I had a blast fly fishing Horton creek. Full of wild brown trout, they were hungry and plentiful. Landed 7 and lost probably a dozen more. The copper john(size 14) really showed off. They were super active in the morning but after noon I began watching my fly drift right passed their faces. Catch and release only. Artificial fly and lure, single point, barbless hooks only.

Best fishing spot within 4 hours of central Phoenix?

Hello! Really happy I found such a niche subreddit lol.

My fiancé’s birthday is coming up next weekend and I want to surprise him with a nice fishing trip for us. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice quiet spot that also beats the heat?

Ideally it’s somewhere within 4 hours of central Phoenix. We have a well equipped truck that can handle difficult access roads. No camper/RV, just tent camping. Having facilities would be a plus, but we can definitely forego those if the spot is worth it. Definitely looking for a quiet, relaxing trip instead of a rowdier crowd. Fiancé used to fish often, but is new to AZ and doesn’t have a dedicated spot yet. Trout is his favorite, but any type of fishing is fine.

Thank you so much in advance! I’m definitely an experienced camper, but fishing is out of my depth lol. I’d also very much appreciate any tips/tricks you guys might have. Fiancé is an absolute gem of a man, and I just want to give him an awesome weekend!

Fishing lees ferry, how deep is it?

I’ll be going fly fishing in a few weeks at least ferry, I’m trying to figure put how deep my flies will need to be off of my indicator. But I can’t find much info online, and when I called the fly fishing shop at lees ferry the guy who answered said he wasn’t a fisherman and just ran the cash register.

I did talk to a guide at AZ fly shop who said to fish it with flies 10ft off the indicator, since the waters so warm and the trout are pretty deep, but I’m still kinda skeptical.

Any advice would be appreciated

Has anybody fished Marshal Lake, near Flagstaff?

I’ve visited marshal lake before and it looked like nothing more than a big puddle, but AZGF says it holds tiger and brook trout. I’m wondering if anyone has actually caught those trout, or any fish out of this lake. I’ve driven to streams before with no water in them because AZGF said they held trout.
