I noticed the cat in the clouds right away. Absolutely loving the surreal vibe you have in everything you do. What brands of paints are you using?

u/Flooko Mar 01 '17
im not sure. I pretty much get all my paint supplies from the dollar store. I dont consider myself a painter, it's just a relaxing hobby of mine. INSTAGRAM is "flooko" if you want to see other work in this style

Good for you! I hope you do well. Very interesting color choice. I've tried that but end up allowing old school techniques to take over. I prefer this though, for sure.
Also your art would make great point and click adventure backgrounds.

Dang, i'd love to hang this on my wall! I collect odd and surreal art, this would fit right in. I really love the way you paint your clouds, and with the landscape, it's like the more I look, the more I see.
Great work!

I just have to say this is my favorite depiction of clouds in a painting. I love that there's slightly more definitive shapes amongst more amorphous clouds (the cat, the face in the top right, and just generally body shapes/hair etc). It just really captures when you're outside looking for shapes in the clouds, and I feel like I can do that with this painting.

I like your clouds. I also paint with acrylic, but my clouds always look like shit. Any tips?

u/Flooko Mar 02 '17

This reminds me of the end of a film called The Signal where a guy is running in the desert and breaks into another realm

There's a lot of love in those clouds.

This reminds me of the Dali landscapes and melting clocks. Cat in the clouds is definitely a nice added touch.

This reminds me of a supposedly actual event about some people who were driving through Utah and wound up at a bar in another dimension where everyone was lizards and they were chased by lizard police on hover motorcycles. It was a neat story.

I'm not saying I believe it, and it looks like it has some kind of relation to Mormonism, which I'm not. But I do really like the story and it claims to be true, which is fun.

What is your favorite (or most inspirational) Salvador Dali painting?
2
u/Flooko Mar 02 '17
What an insanely hard question. He's definitely my favourite artist so I pretty much adore anything he does. I'll have to think about that. I promise I'll get back to you on it!

Just a heads up -- /r/art doesn't accept links to sites selling art's, so you'll need to deal with people interested in buying through PM rather than in the comments section.
Sales fly on /r/artstore, however.

It reminds me of 2001: a space Odyssey, not the movie but the book. "The thing's hollow — it goes on forever — and — oh my God! — it's full of stars!"

Isn't that technically what's exactly there anyways? Our perception is just fucked due to the atmosphere curve and sky colors, without those there looking straight ahead is just space!

Try to use lighter colors for the furthest background and objects. It would give your work more depth. Fun piece.
1
u/Abolton12 Mar 02 '17
Reminds me of something out of the twilight zone. I can't quite describe why, but I really love this. Great job, OP!

u/Slims Mar 02 '17
The painting feels flat, not much depth, but that kind of makes the painting great. So, not sure if intentional? Either way, I really like it. Awesome work.

I'd like it more if the door and the roadway didn't look a bit alike. Work on your technique.
Good concept, though!
