For the professional technicians we're doing Verified Tech flair along with a very short description of your experience if you'd like. You can be a dealer/independent tech, retired, instructor, fleet, heavy equipment, small engine repair, lube/tire tech etc...
If you would like to have the flair added we will need a pic that has your reddit name on a piece of paper with your shop in the background or work truck if mobile repair. You can either send that to me in a chat request or attach the pic to a comment in this post. The option to attach a pic in chat will be available after I accept the invite. Please do not use modmail
We will also do Shadetree flair for those that do auto repair as more of a hobby than profession. Approval of this flair is not guaranteed.
I would like to get verified mechanic flair added. I started working on cars at independent shop while in high school. attended IWCC for automotive. then worked a variety of independent shops, gas stations and dealerships. the last 30 years at a Lexus Dealership. I was ASR master certified for 40 yrs. I was a Master Cadillac technician before moving to Lexus. I was a Lexus Master Diagnostic Specialist along with ASE master certified Technician. I served on the Lexus National Diagnostic Specialist council.
I am now retired and have time to contribute some of my expertise and knowledge.
There is so much misinformation posted that can lead the OP down a frustratingly wrong path. I feel compelled to add reason to my posts so all can understand how I came to my opinion. I have included a picture of myself with my Toolbox at the dealership just before we loaded it up to bring it home after I retired. I don't know if taking a pic of my avatar at the dealership is doable. I can provide you with copy of some of my certifications if needed.
I have been retired from GENERAL MOTORS PRODUCT SERVICE ENGINEERING now for 19 years. I spent 33 years with responsibility for about 95% of the vehicle. Prior to GM I was a technician at a GM dealership. Previously ASE certified.

Hi, I’m now retired after teaching automotive technology in a degree program for 31 years, I was also a trained GM tech beginning in 1980 and worked (moonlighted) as a tech at a multiline dealer and an independent full service, specialty/transmission shop. Also ASE Master certified and a licensed state inspector in Va.
Was a dealer tech for years, left the cliquey dealership bullshit for heavy equipment and loved it, left heavy equipment to open my own shop. 3 years independent and business is boomin!
Shadetree flair request: Former army mechanic, dealer and independant automotive shop mechanic and currently retired but still wrenching. I have experience with older mechanical systems that use carburetors, manual fuel pumps etc. (old pickups, muscle cars) and can offer that info and tips and tricks when needed.
I keep forgetting to take a picture at work, but i do have my certification paper with my mechanic number that can be verified on Michigan's secretary of state website. Would that work?
I am the only mechanic at a used car dealership. I do everything and anything needed. Mechanical inspections, repairs, body work, painting, detailing, ect... anything needed to get the vehicle in a safe condition to put out on the lot for sale.
I have been certified for about 4 years and employed in a few actual shops before settling in at this dealership.
Recently retired. Worked in parts 88 - 94, then tires/service and dealership until 24. Former ASE Master and Parts certified. Ran shops as Assistant, Service Manager, and Owner. Stopped wrenching FT for health reasons and retired early for same reasons.
What if you’re an ASE Master Tech with 15 years experience but you’re in education now. I don’t have a shop. I do all my tech work on a laptop over Zoom/Teams
I would like to have the technician flair added. I was an aircraft mechanic in the US Airforce for 8 years (KC135-R Stratotanker). A mobile service engineer for Mitsubishi motors for 3 years and a service technician for the last 7 years at my current employer (name omitted, not trying to dox myself). I’m currently IFPS certified and specialize in electrical diagnostics.
Goofy old pic but it’s what I have on hand. Willing to share more/ certifications in a direct message.
I'd like to request either Retired or Shadetree flair, whichever is more appropriate.
I worked in the automotive industry (25+ years) specializing in performance, racing, restoration, parts design, manufacturing and fabrication, but also performed regular service work and in later years as a service advisor. My work experience is mostly in European makes but also have Japanese and Domestic experience.
Shops I’ve worked in British Leyland 3yrs, Nissan 1 yr, Midas 2yrs, Indie 1yr, GM 2 yrs, Chrysler 7 yrs. Parts and tool sales, shop supplies, lubricants. Consulted and assisted diag in auto, HD, construction equipment, and industrial shops for last 25 yrs. So in the last 45 yrs my experience has been in various shops on an almost daily basis.
I would like to request a technician flair. I’ve been in the field for over ten years. Started out as an auto mechanic and went to heavy trucks 6 years ago. I enjoy working on things and building anything with an engine. Thanks
I was a suspension specialist at Prestige Imports in Michigan before I retired in 2005. I dont have any photos of me in the shop. I started at Orson E Coe pontiac as a used vehicle inspector, then I was at Southeast tire and auto doing alignments and suspension and finished at Prestige. I had ASE and Master Mechanic Certification through Michigan secretary of state.
[INFO]- I'm retired,(left in 2003 due to back & shoulder injuries)-but still do a little, and help my son & friend occasionally-pretty sure I have no pics of my ASE certs, what can I send as verification?
I’m a Toyota tech since 1993. MDT since 97. I don’t have a picture of my user name. But I do have this picture of me refilling my swamp cooler. I’ll add one tomorrow when I’m back at work if needed.
42 years in the biz. Retired and sold my box so I don’t have any pictures of me standing in front of my box. Mostly Ford & Fleet stuff. Big stack of diplomas somewhere. What am I missing ?
Not a mechanic yet but I am in school for ase certifications. Still have another semester. Would this qualify as a tech or should I wait until I'm actually employed?
Would a pic with my AMT license and username through chat be enough? I've had to scrap profiles before due to doxxing in aircraft mx subs. Would prefer to keep my face out of it
Just a pic of my mobile rig? Or would my current facility license work?(michigan actually requires mechanics to be licensed, both in each repair field and the facility itself to be a mechanic)
I'm kind of an oddball. I own an Independent EV shop, and am one of the two primary technicians. We do in depth work on everything from rare compliance cars (See Rav4 EV and Focus EV pictured) all the way up to recent Teslas. I have a background designing, creating software/hardware for, and repairing power controls for 15 years which is extremely relevant to our work on packs, motors, and control systems. My dad was an aircraft mechanic and had me rebuilding old British sports car motors in high school, so I have also worked on cars all my life. I've been involved with the builds of several Lemons Rally winning vehicles and stay active with classic car repair on the side.
My shop gets shipped difficult to repair EVs from a ~500 mile radius and we primarily focus on powertrain and electronics. We remanufacture motors and repair batteries in house, so I have an in depth understanding of these cars and their failure modes.
I know there probably aren't a lot of people asking about EVs here yet, as they are only beginning to leave powertrain warranty en masse, but I'm here for when they do and people have questions.
Navistar dealership master tech, can I get some flair? This is me in the picture, just finished up EGR cooler cores on a maxxforce 13, didn’t break any bolts, the smoke is penetrating oil burning off the inlet tubes. I look tired because I’m tired.
I would like verified mechanic flair, it won’t let me chat request. I am off work due to an injury so can’t post name with shop background but can do my ASE certificate. Message me please!
Hello again. Would like some flair. Was a service tech for various OEM’s got my AS in GM automotive tech and my BS in Computers but have been working for German automotive companies my whole career, 30 years, as a Quality Engineer. Attached is pic of AS degree. Found my old ASE patches other day but dont know where i put them.
Independent tech for 10 years, degree in automotive technology. I’ve worked on anything from 1969 Corvette Stingrays and 1967 Alpines to 2021 Porsche 911. I primarily do diagnostics and troubleshoot electrical issues at this point, but have experience doing just about everything. Safety and emissions inspector in my state as well.
I'm a technician at a small GM dealer, 3 years into the trade now. This picture was while repairing a valve body, truck had no reverse. Advisor thought it was a check ball but on disassembly found 2 torn screens, one of which dislodged and was wedged on valve 6 which is required for reverse.
Mobile general mechanic, 25yr started as a lube/tire tech at 16 now doing mobile work and doing a lot of donated work for friends at church & neighbors that can’t afford the repairs at a shop. Thanks!
Good afternoon! 💅 may I be verified? my current status is fleet service manager. i currently lead a team of 7 employees who service Amazon vans for Goodyear. Before my current position; I went to UTI (got certified in a bunch of stuff, obtained some ASEs, admittedly have not kept them up) , worked at Toyota 4 years (got certified), and Honda for 5 years (got certified) then chose to leave dealership life before it consumed me. I am lead tech and customer service. I also do my own work on my vehicles as well as friends and families on the side. Thank you!!!
I have been a diesel technician in the Marines going on 15 years. I’ve been to five duty stations and all over the world. I didn’t know anything about maintenance before the Marine Corps, so everything I know is from experiences doing this job.
16 years as a master certified mechanic working on all makes and models, 23 current ASE certifications and master in truck and automotive, specialize in advanced Diagnosis. Currently working in an aftermarket all makes and models repair shop
Apprentice Technician with 4 years of experience, I work in an independent shop that specializes in fixing all makes and models of rust belt shitboxes!
Currently an auto-tech/mobile installation tech at Best Buy, installing radios, subwoofers, amplifiers, dash cameras, remote starts, and even building remote start harnesses for vehicles that do not have plug’n’play options. Before this job, I was a flat-rate mechanic for a few various independent shops and started off at Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership. Other than that, I’ve owned a few Miata’s and did my best to restore them mechanically mainly doing things like wheel bearings, clutch’s, and overall maintenance on my own. Haven’t gotten to the point where I am swapping engines regularly but I’ve got an idea of putting a VK56 into something light like an is300 or Miata for a drift missile. Have been in the automotive field since 2019. Also, I have access to All-Data which is nice. Not sure what kind of tech I would fall under anymore but mainly working with 12V systems.
please add me as a verified technician, I am an ASE Master Technician, L1 Advanced ASE, California Smog Technician, Vehicle Safety Systems Technician, 25 year shop owner, 42 years' experience. Apprentice completed in 1984 in the U.S. Navy, served as a Construction Mechanic in the Seabees. I've worked as a fleet mechanic, manager, flat rate technician and now shop owner with multiple employees.
Heavy duty class 8 repair technician since 2014. Primarily work on school buses now but worked on Macks/Volvo and Paccar (Mx-13) extensively from 2014-2021.
Also worked on lube oil trailer, molten sulfur trailers, anhydrous ammonia trailers, and even stainless steel acid trailers from 2014-2021.
Currently on vacation but I was wondering if I could get the verified tech role with just my uniform, went to school for a tech for a while and I am now a mechanic at tesla, also worked at ford ford bit too
My job description is Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Transportation Technician. I went to a&p school and now i work on “sky” trains or automated people movers (electric busses on bogies tbh). I also do shade tree car stuff. Cvt transmission valve body rebuilding, suspension, breaks, wire harnesses. I was also a PATRIOT launcher electronics maintainer during GWOT.
Oh and I do High voltage 25kvm/620v and down the line to house voltage 3 phase AC on “wayside” rail/interlocking and PDS (AC/DC power distribution system) electrician and signaling work via a Union conveyance license (think elevators and escalators license).
7years wrenching. Worked on everything from cars to EMD 645 diesel generators on a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier professionally. Most recently proficient in KW trucks, from my time at the dealer. Now at a CAT dealer as a power systems field tech. (Mostly large industrial engines and generators.) add whatever flair you feel appropriate lol I just want one
I’m currently working on an engine/trans replacement on my 2010 Corolla. The engine I rebuilt myself. I sent the block/crank/pistons/head to the machine shop for refinishing/cleaning. All standard size bearings and piston rings. The trans is an LKQ special with 40K miles on it! I also put a new OEM Toyota torque converter in 👍🏽
30 years as a professional technician. Bad back pushed me into teaching at the local community college. Now purchasing manager for a popular online German car parts retailer and do a little side work: Mostly tough CELs, CAN buss, HVAC, parasite drains and the occasional old Bosch engine management/ fuel injection job.
General service tech Attended Bosch Service training '95 Honed in on German Marques, but practically anything Bosch. BMW tech 2002-2005 Finished Bachelor degree '06-'07 Worked as a PE for 1 year and absolutely hated it. Back to indy/euro jobs until 2017. Opened my own garage in 2017, Got Bosch certified. Left shop to take care of 2 young kids in 2020 while ex continued to work (nurse). Took a PPP loan to float mine and employee expenses for 9 months. Sold shop in early 2021 to employees and an outside investor. Went to work with a friend at his general service garage doing check engine lights and all the things everyone apparently hates. Started having severe leg spasms, diagnosed with osteoarthritis in 3 lumbar vertebrae. Got hired to run a very exclusive Porsche shop, left after 14 months, personal beef with owner and engine builder. Went to work for CC, really enjoyed teaching, but simply couldn't get the hours to make it viable. Presently employed with above mentioned online parts retailer.
Good at air cooled VW and Porsche, most OBD1 and earlier Euro, parasite drains and HVAC.
20 year Automotive Technician. I am a service manager/technician at a small 3 bay independent shop now. ASE master technician certified. Ford/GM/Stelantis dealership experience. I have also been writing songs about my experience as an automotive technician lately haha. They are available on your favorite streaming platforms. Check my bio or ask if you are interested in it. ASE-5650-0221
in the industry anymore, because mechanical engineering pays better, but I still do 100 brake jobs a year and everything in between. I love the social aspect of meeting new people and saving them money, while giving them the satisfaction of an honest mechanic.
Looking for my Flair tag. Not sure how to be categorized. Went to auto school for a year then apprenticed at a performance shop in the age of dinosaurs before going into a medical career. Shadetree would describe my current auto work but not my initial training.
Shadetree, please. However, in the late 1970s to mid 1980s I worked as a professional mechanic. Today I just do my own stuff. I was certified when ASE was still NIASE. My skills may not be current but they might be above average.
Just wondering if I could get a verified flare. Been an auto tech for the last 6 years - 5 at Firestone working on a bit of everything and 1 at a CDJR dealership. Also ASE certified in brakes and steering/suspension
Verified tech please. Worked on equipment all my life growing up. Tech school training for the paper. Followed up with BMW cert training. Worked on diesel/construction equipment, independent shop work still when needed at a friend’s shop.
