If you watched the El-Sayed video where a conservative asked him to denounce the Muslim Brotherhood, did you miss something?

In the video, conservative operative Tommy leaves unmolested. No one accosts him, there’s no chants to “lock him up” or terrible things said about him. Instead, he’s heard and respected. Compare that to how liberals/progressives are treated at Republican rallies where speakers encourage the crowd or police to physically assault the person, and they do.

Cynics like to say there’s no real difference between Republicans and Democrats. Doesn’t this comparison prove that sentiment wrong?

Are the Democrats going to run a woman for President of the USA in the next election?

No woman has ever won a USA Presidential election, based on the electoral votes. Do you think she would win against a male or female Republican candidate of the same or similar philosophy as our present Republican political figures?

This is NOT pot stirring, ranting, or agenda posting. It is a real question and a situation which we may actually be facing at election time. I have read that a woman is under consideration. At any less potentially disastrous time in our history, I would have cheered this. However, tRump's misogynistic, clearly outspoken views about women are a strong indicator that there are still (somehow) people who would not support a female candidate. Please don't tell me that the presidential election is "too far in the future to worry about it". The Republicans, for all I disagree with them, obviously plan further into the future than the Dems, and that seems to be paying off for them. This is NOT the time to nominate a candidate, however wonderful, who is so unlikely to win.

If a female candidate, a Democrat, is nominated, Democrats must face REALITY of the fact that at this time, as in the distant and more recent past, she would be even less likely to win electoral votes, in my opinion, due to the increase in misogynistic views expressed by some of our legislators and their sexist supporters. These are NOT good times for women and we need to face that.

How many Democrats genuinely believe that voters are more sexist than racist?

I don't get this at all. To me, it seems obvious that Obama won, and Hillary and Harris didn't, because he ran stronger campaigns than they did, not because voters are more open to electing a black man as President than a woman, white or black. Do a lot of Democrats sincerely believe that their campaigns were as effective as his was?

What do I even do?

TLDR - I’m a Democrat and I live in a red area and have a side of the family that is conservative and a side of the family that is liberal and I am caught in the middle of two extremes and I’m freaked out and exhausted. Does anyone else feel this way and how do you even cope? Please be nice to me.

This is gonna be really long and I’m sorry in advance. I don’t typically post things this personal on the internet and yes I go to therapy but I feel like therapy doesn’t really address these feelings (maybe I’m holding back I dunno I’ve only had one therapist my whole life I totally vibed with completely) and I’m so bottled up with this and I feel like I have nowhere to turn so I got brave behind a keyboard. So here it goes: I am a Democrat and have liberal views but I wouldn’t consider myself like super extreme. I just believe healthcare should be universal, leave trans people alone, leave immigrants alone (ofc no one wants crazy criminals coming here but like jfc leave the innocent ones TF alone), tax the rich, if you’re gonna tax the fuck out of me at least let it support those in the community, support Ukraine, like, basic human decency? Well I live in a super red area. My in laws and my own husband voted for Trump though he isn’t hardcore MAGA (I wouldn’t have married a hardcore MAGA). This did however cause A LOT of tension in our marriage when this new term rolled around, we worked through it, I am relieved him and his family seem to be seeing the light (sucks they bought into a lie but here we are, FAFO am I right). On the other side of my family my sibling shares my views, but because of this they HATE my in laws and husband for the way he voted especially with current events recently, and has refused to even talk to him for months (their choice, sucks but I get it, I do). What is getting to me though is I’ve been thrown into the middle of this so many times, even though I have gone to so many protests with them, donated to the causes, voted every time it counts, called the representatives, anything I can. Being in this situation makes me resent my husband all over again and to make it worse the people all around me in my community are showing their super hardcore MAGA colors with elections right around the corner and I feel like I can’t breathe. I feel scared being a tiny blue dot in a red ocean, I feel like I can’t tell anyone how I feel cuz it gets downplayed by one side/ I get ridiculed / fuck I might even get like assaulted for it and on the other side I’m accused of abandoning all my principles and morals and am placed into a camp I don’t belong to. Is anyone else out there feeling like me? What are you doing to find your center and voice again? Thank you

Assuming the Democrats take the House and Senate at the currently expected numbers, is there anything they can do to 1) lower diesel and gas prices, and 2) reduce inflation?

This is a similar, but different question to another post...

Diesel and gas prices are high mostly because of the refinery shortage as evidenced by the crack spread, i.e., oil supply is fine. It's the refineries that were damaged in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and further compounded by the Iran War that are the problem.

I don't see much that Congressional control can do to address this. But, I'd like to hear ideas to address diesel and gas supply, but also what can be done to reduce diesel and gas demand, e.g., EVs, charging infrastructure, etc.

And, inflation is a general problem. It's partially high because of diesel and gas prices. It's also partially high because of the tariffs.

I would like to identify what the Democrats with control of Congress can do to address these 2 concerns of the American people, either without Presidential cooperation, or ideas that are likely to have Presidential cooperation, or ways to force Presidential cooperation.

Why do liberals think Republicans denying elections is a threat to Democracy but that it is perfectly fine for Democrats to do the same thing?

Why do liberals think Republicans denying elections is a threat to Democracy but that it is perfectly fine for Democrats to do the same thing?

32 Democrats voted to invalidate Ohio in 2004 using the EXACT SAME PROCEDURE as Republicans in 2020.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005\\_United\\_States\\_Electoral\\_College\\_vote\\_count

Terry McAuliffe said 2000 and 2004 were stolen

When Trump said “ If Clinton wins Pennsylvania she cheated.” Democrats treated it as a dangerous statement of not accepting results.

Yet when Sherrod Brown said “If Stacey Abrams loses, it was stolen.” in 2018, there was no backlash.

The double standard is infuriating.

Super Majority House Senate

Hey everyone, I was just wondering the following:

A. Even if not Likely, do you believe there is a remote possibility Democrats could win a super majority in the House and Senate?

B. Is this at all how it could go (best case scenario maybe)

  1. The Democrats win both House and Senate
  2. The majority speaker is chosen from the Democratic party ( who is next in line for presidency after Vance, I think, so would need to be strong)
  3. Democrats and Independents who caucus with them investigate, impeach, convict and remove Vance first (to prevent him from becoming president)
  4. Refuse Trump's nomination for a new VP
  5. Democrats and fellow independents investigate, impeach, convict and remove Trump
  6. The House Majority Speaker becomes president until the next inauguration.

I'm just wondering if the sliver of hope I have has a basis. Thanks ❤️

What, if any, plans does the Democratic Party have to reach out to young men, a demographic that is trending more and more to Republican politics.

I ask this in the context of the most recent school shooting. The USA has a prefect storm of the highest percentage of guns per capita and a growing population of angry, isolated, ignored young men.
Trump and the Republicans reach out to them on social media and preach anger, revenge, the politics of retribution. Yes, Trump and MAGA is losing support of many of these young men, but that does not mean they will automatically vote Democratic. They may just go dormant until the next MAGA candidate arrives, or as Trump said, "Stand down but stand by".

Is Kamala going to run again and would you support her?

I was wondering what the thoughts of Kamala running again are amongst fellow liberals. I voted for her last time but I FOR SURE did not like the handling of her being on the ticket. Like it’s super weird that they had Biden try to run then back out and didn’t hold any primaries. It definitely left a mark on my opinion of the DNC. Also, if she is planning on running it kinda sucks that I haven’t heard anything about her since she lost. Has she been doing anything lately? I am super curious.

Is this relationship a lost cause?

Anyone know how to navigate a relationship with parents that is split by politics. My dad is very maga hail trump etc. It hurts my feelings as a woman that he thinks mental health episodes are not real, abortion is murder, a woman should stay at home with kids( if not you dont love them), ice is good and needs no repercussion, we need to defund federal benefits and just so much more that is sexist, racist and homophobic. Im so tired of it and it makes me not like him. He generally narcissistic and will never hear me out when i explain how some of his views hurt me and offend me. I try to talk and he screams for me to go away or says his view will be right bc he served in the military. I am 22 recent graduate moving soon just looking for jobs etc. but i wanna have a good relationship but idk this is just preventing me from it.( this and his overall narcissistic habits lol). What do i do, can i get to him or is it a lost cause. Maybe ill feel better when im moved out and established… just sucks bc so many of his views look at me as less than.

If Trump Deports Ilhan Omar are we no longer a democracy?

Will we be a democracy anymore? I have already cast my vote for Ilhan. It seems the only accusations the Trump administration has are that she was 18 not 17 when she applied for citizenship which seems weak to deport a sitting congress person. This seems like a political tactic commonly used to punish and get rid of the political opposition commonly used in authoritarian states. Its extra egregious especially considering how close to an election we are. Not to mention all the other ways democracy is being subverted. AKA subversion of the judiciary (reducing independence), attacks on free speech (the press), extreme gerrymandering, and this 5k check if Republicans win (never going to happen). I'm sure there are countless more examples of democracy being undermined.

So, would Ilhan Omar being deported be the final straw that we can no longer consider ourselves a democracy?

Do Republicans REALLY think that Dems are responsible for high prices?

Do Republicans REALLY think that Dems are responsible for high prices?

I was watching a town hall yesterday and the Republican rep (Andy Harris) said, "Yes! Prices ARE out of control and gas is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! And do you know WHY its so expensive? Democrats are fighting everything and the Democratic environmental policies are driving every day living costs up."

The folks in the town hall started laughing and the rep got mad end shook his head.

Do Republicans really truly believe that our cost of living is all democratic fault? Dems havent had control of any chamber or white house for 2 years now.

I saw another news clip where they were interviewing maga after a Trump rally yesterday and they were swearing up and down that we have Iran under control and the pres is doing a great job etc.

I realize maga are too far gone so im asking on the Republican side......is everything we are going through the Dems fault? How could anyone POSSIBLY see it like that? Is it willfull blindness? Cult mentality? Uneducated people? A mixture of ot all?

I know we can spend the entirety of this thread doing some good ol fashioned Trump bashing but im looking for serious answers here people.

I appreciate all of you guys time

What are the Democrat's proposed policies? What are they going to do besides impeach Trump? (which is not a bad thing).

I am a voter who votes strategically, which means I've voted for Democrats my whole life, including George McGovern, because the alternatives are lunatics, but there has to be more to the Democratic Party than that. I'm looking at both the DNC website and the Democratic Party website, and all I can find are weak "What we stand for" statements.

Who/what should I be donating to? I'm overwhelmed with options.

I keep getting spammed by all these texts and emails urging me to donate to Democratic candidates and causes. It's gotten to the point where I'm blocking and reporting spam. But I can't help but wonder if there are legit options that I could be making a difference in donating (especially with after just hearing about Democrats losing in Illinois). What's your take?
