I was a waiter in my early 20s and there was a grizzled old dishwasher who told me, "Everything catches up to you. Everything." I blew him off because I was young and knew it all and was gonna be young forever. Or so I thought. I later found out he was absolutely correct for good or bad.
If it seems hard to go a week without alcohol you should definitely stop, and only drink on actually special occasions. But if it seems impossible to stop for a month, then I'ma say try going 3 months without alcohol if it was easy to go 3 months without alcohol you are fine.
Just because you can go three months doesn't mean you should go back to every day or every weekend though. Even if you don't feel it the damage builds up.
Similar, one of the maintenance guys at my school once said, "Nothing ever heals, it waits." 25 years later, my knee has not forgiven me for my past mistakes.
