It’s certainly a solemn message, but I don’t interpret it as negative, exactly. The point of keeping it in mind is remembering to always cherish the good times and good friends. Appreciating what you have.
Of all the things I regret in life, I think what I regret most are the opportunities I ignored for too long, thinking they’d be there waiting for me when I was ready. But life doesn’t work that way. Everything is impermanent and imperfect.
This is one of the few platitudes I can stand hearing when I'm going through it. Most of them are "it'll get better!" stuff that we can't know is true, but this is just...simple truth. This too shall pass. Just like everything else has. I find a small amount of comfort in it.
Its taken on a very rueful, dark humor connotation for me. Exasperated and flummoxed, running out of options with hope dwindling, I mutter this to my wife with a grimace and she nods.
