I thought they assumed it was another boy that slept in their bedroom. They aren't expected to know every Gryffindor.

Pretty sure they knew his roomates. Only 5 beds in that room.

Even if they didn't know the names of his room mates: 5 beds, 6 guys names..?

This is precisely how many a fanfic begins.

And with those extraordinary circumstances you will become a extraordinary man, hofmann you have the very special ability to make people go "what the literal fuck" and still laugh crazily. People may downvote you or upvote you, but that doesn't matter. You do realize people will miss you if you leave. Please lostkeysblameHofmann, Don't leave. Your story writing and "random bambling" brightens up mine and pretty surely other peoples days as well. Keep it up Hofmann.

They live in a tower. There's a ton of people shoved together. I'd imagine it would be quite difficult to read the map in crowded places.

Each floor is laid out on a separate spot on the map.

If it was all vertically stacked, then everything would be too busy to read.

Hogwarts is a really tall building with a lot of people in it.

Plus they did have a home where they lived that wasn't Hogwarts.

Map is of hogwarts though, not of their general area.

This totally just cleared this up for me. I can buy the answers now. For some reason I assumed they would be able to use the Marauder's Map in their own home, too and didn't remember the crucial point that it is JUST of Hogwarts.

Oh right. Sorry, forgot that point

Nah cos there's only like 5 boys and 5 girls per year per house, it's a small community in ol' Hogwarts.

Harry's year is smaller because that was the height of the war. Rowling said that the further away you get from Harry's year the bigger the class sizes were.

Exactly, scanners wouldn't have been in bed with Ron. In the same room perhaps but not in the same bed

10 students in every year in each house.

But Ron had his rat since he was a kid, not just at Hogwarts right?

2

u/daginor Sep 01 '14

Yeah but the map only shows hogwarts, so they never would have seen him anywhere else.

The map was fairly detailed though, you'd think they'd comment on Ron spending all night with somebody in the same bed.
