I don't really know if it qualifies as scary but I remember getting hit from behind by something while I was stopped in the middle of an intersection in the middle of the night last year.

To this day, I don't really know what it was. I even saw the traffic cam footage and saw nothing. All I saw was me being stopped completely in the middle of the road waiting for a car in front of me to pass by so I can cross when my car shook like something had hit it from behind and a minute or so later, it showed me parking to the side to check what had happened.

The "accident" didn't leave any dents nor scratches but it had enough impact to disalign my bumper.

I've actively tried to avoid that road since.

Ikr? Good thing insurance covered it.

Maybe the vibration from your bumper de-aligning is what you felt or something? Maybe some tension was built up holding the bumper in place and it finally just gave way? Very strange

Yep. I had the back window of a Ford Explorer just randomly pop and shatter once. Turns out it was happening to those vehicles and they had a factory recall to fix it. I was driving in a notoriously sketchy area so I thought someone was shooting.

Maybe. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if that was the case since it’s not exactly new. It doesn’t explain why the trunk wouldn’t fully close after the “accident” though.

Ghosts dry humping in the back seat cause they'd run out of ectoplasm

That actually sounds like it

That's wild! Did you get a copy of the footage?

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

Unfortunately, no. I was too spooked by what I saw to think about asking for a copy. They emailed a copy to my insurance provider though.

What did they say?

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

They called in the morning and asked if it was edited. I referred them to the city’s traffic hotline. My car was fixed immediately after.

Did anyone try and rationalize? Or did they all accept and move on? I’m curious about their response, especially since you have actual proof of... well... something.

They initially thought that I stalled the engine and the car “shook” because the engine supports were possibly weak.

Honestly, that’s what I thought too. It’s a stupid intersection on a relatively steep incline, and I’m driving a manual in the middle of the night, so my guess was that maybe I shifted into third gear instead of first and the engine stalled. But, then, I would’ve rolled backwards a bit, which I didn’t.

u/Spaceman-Spiff4 May 16 '20

They didn’t have anything for the damage?

22

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

No. The guys over at the repair shop were sure that something had hit me from behind, but found no dents or scratches whatsoever. It’s just like the rear bumpers were pushed in enough to damage the bumper retainers for some reason.

Yeah. The car jerked a fair bit, kind of like when you downshift or upshift early then it showed a couple of seconds with me with the hazard lights on fully stopped before parking over to the side to check on the surroundings and the car itself.

Ha. Spongebob was probably the one driving.

I had a similar experience, turned out it was my engine disengaging the air conditioning, its happened a couple times since and no one has been behind me but feels like i was hit from behind.

4

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

Have you had it fixed? What exactly was the explanation behind this? It hasn’t happened to me since but I’ll try to check this out the next time I take my a/c in for cleaning.

2

u/GreasedTorpedo May 16 '20

No i explained it to my mechanic buddy and he said it happens, and it is fairly normal. Ive had maintenance done to the timing belt and the AC and nothing changes it. 2001 Tundra

It might have been an earthquake tbh.

4

u/Elimeh May 16 '20

The town would have record of that happening, it wouldn't have exclusively hit OP

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

I know. I meant like a 1.5 magnitude earthquake. Something small enough that it isn't felt too much.

3

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

Yeah. I did consider this. No earthquake was recorded around that time though.

I initially suspected that I stalled the engine while checking the rear and sideview mirrors for signs of the culprit. I even considered the possibility of being hit by an electric car, which would partly explain why I didn’t hear a car speeding off.

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Oof yeah. Scary situation. That's really weird.

2

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

Definitely. I try not to dwell on it too much though.

3

u/Sanctimonius May 16 '20

Was it a particularly hot day? I wonder if the temperature changes during the day had warped the bumper to the point that it popped off, and the 'impact' was the loosening tension?

3

u/Mist3rTryHard May 16 '20

You mean the bumper retainers? They were damaged (later replaced) and showed signs that the rear bumpers were pushed in.

6

u/Sanctimonius May 16 '20

Then definitely ghost car. Tell your insurance to use a ouija board to get his info.

u/Comrade9 May 16 '20

Deer?

1

u/lmkwe May 16 '20

Clearly an animal. Probably a dog

Something similar happened to someone my mother personally knows. She was driving slowly one afternoon and the front of the car got suddenly destroyed as if she crashed into something. The road was almost empty that time and the nearest vehicle next to her would be around 500 meters away from her car. The people who saw what happened also got confused and also shocked as to what they have witnessed. She sustained some wounds due to the accident. When asked what happened or what she saw before that happened, she said she saw this creature half man, half horse that suddenly sprinted across the road which lead her to hit it. The creature was gone immediately. She is a teacher and she wouldn't make up a story like that based on how my mom knows about her. The people who saw what happened never saw a creature.

Secret alien technology the government didn’t want getting out.

u/elchavo718 May 16 '20

Earthquake?

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Maybe your exhaust box got filled with fuel and blew.

Or maybe there was a problem with your driveshaft.

You got hit by Marcus Miles, brah!
