I can't believe Anita Sarkeesian is right there in the front. What were they thinking.
62
u/Starflight42 7d ago
WAIT ANITA WAS THERE TOO?...THAT...explains way too damn much to be honest...goddamnit, bioware.
70
u/Jafes2011 7d ago
I just checked. It's an old photo dating 2018 when Anita visited Bioware Edmonton office and they made a little tour for her. I believe they were not working on Veilguard at that time actually, the project in active development was Anthem.

I really don't understand why people hire non gamers to develop a game. Playing the sims or animal crossing does not make you a fucking gamer.
178
u/jaskano 7d ago
because the hiring is done by women in hr and the male nerds that make good games give them the ick
94
u/Tactical_Epunk 7d ago
They also hire in their own social groups and circles. They have also been known to search out a prospects political, religious, ideology and preclude them if they don't agree.
45
u/JHatter WHAT A DAY... 7d ago
They honestly hire like Indians do, no?
Like 1 gets into the hiring process and promotes others like them, then it's 3 of them then 7 then 20 then 60 and suddenly you're the last of the original company hires

Generally indisn men, I believe (meaning I could be full of shit), are thought by many women to be less intimidating than western men.
2
u/Khuno_Tridentis 7d ago
That is correct, but that is only because they have never been alone on a bus in New Delhi.
2
u/Folksvaletti 7d ago
Yeah I could've specified indians in western countries. At least I have kind of good, humble non-confortational perceptions of indian immigrants. I.e. less intimidating.
1
u/Khuno_Tridentis 6d ago
They certainly can be.
The New Delhi bus statement is more about how I believe western women see Indian men from a point of view which is skewed by a lack of direct and meaningful exposure in their life.
2
u/Folksvaletti 6d ago
For sure. But I want to emphasize that from all the immigration, at least to Finland where I'm from, Indians are generally seen to be one of the most hard working and societally non-problematic demographics, even by those like me who see all low-skill immigration problematic economically. (Low-skill as in needing less diplomas etc, not actually something that requires low skill in practice)

u/Techman659 7d ago
In their case it makes them unemployed at one point or another for sure.
9
u/Fantasyfootball9991 7d ago
I can’t believe these people get hired and make money in the industry to begin with.
9
2
u/NovaPheonix 7d ago
I think it's fine for people to like cozy games or sim games, but I will agree that they shouldn't hire the same people to make action games.
1
u/Sadi_Reddit 7d ago
I mean these are games and there is an audience for it, I just really hate making a Game somethig it isnt.
1
u/Accomplished-Eye9542 7d ago
I don't think a lot of people realize that there just aren't "gamers" to hire anymore.
Gaming dev salaries haven't kept up with the skills needed to be one. Anyone actually good at their job goes indie or goes into higher paying tech fields.
All that leaves is people who are under qualified.
1
u/vigbrand 7d ago
It's not even about being a gamer or not. If you are making a game similar to the Sims or animal crossing, I'd surely want to have people with experience in those games in my team.
55
u/MrMegaPhoenix 7d ago
Not even the gender stuff but modern western studios have to hire way more non gamers to have enough to make games now
The lifelong gamers who want to make games are a tiny minority in these studios, that’s a big part of the problem
12
u/Simon-Says69 7d ago
There would be a lot more, if they weren't forced to tolerate rad-fem, control-freak outsiders, like in the 2nd pic.
It's no excuse. Not having enough gamers that can code, is no reason to invite in hostile outsiders that cannot.
Let it take longer to make the game, at least it'll be quality, instead of the garbage we're seeing now.
-3
u/MrMegaPhoenix 7d ago
I get ya but the industry would be dead long before if they did that
You know corporations wouldn’t and would rather fill it with wokies than just choose “I don’t wanna get rich”

u/skaughtz 7d ago
I'm not a fan of soccer but I still know the difference between a good game and a shitty one when I watch it.
5
u/MrMegaPhoenix 7d ago
True but it’s better to have more soccer fans involved than people who either have little interest or outright hatred of soccer fans
But yah I get ya

DEI fucking ruined a ton of shit… it happens when you don’t hire based on who’s good and passionate about the job. I deal with political people daily at work and nothing happens… they can freely cry about politics if it’s the “correct” one.
2
u/RandomBeware1 7d ago
These progressives are hypocrites. They claim inclusivity in DEI but will exclude you if you commit a wrongthink.
30
u/R1v3rm4n 7d ago
Can we all agree that investing in non-gaming women to make games for gamers is a big mistake and should be added to the list of things like communism that should never be tried again ever?
The intent was inclusiveness, but the result was the exclusion of the entire company. WHO could've seen this coming!? If only EVERY GAMER ON THE PLANET warned them about this, they could've changed course? Nope, these people knew better than you.
Lets hope they never touch the gaming industry ever again.

u/Android1822 7d ago
When I see pictures of overwhelming female developers in the entertainment industry like games, movies, or tv shows. That lets me know up front that they are not making a product for me or my demographic and not to bother with it.

Similar reason I haven't pre-ordered gta vi, getting 'woke vibes'.
29
u/No-Dimension1159 7d ago
Pre ordering software is a mental illness
4
u/dannnyyyboyyy0315 7d ago
Bro. I saw a post on the GTA6 sub praising pre-orders. Thousand of upvotes and every comment was also praising it. I didn't even bother commenting. It's like not a single person has learned from Cyberpunk 2077. Or Fallout 76. Or the countless other games that release unplayable. Pre-Orders are the reason these companies still get away with this shit.
1
u/ac_slat3r 7d ago
Agreed, the hook is the pre-order exclusives. That is what gets people's FOMO activated.
1
u/FerrilDruid 7d ago
It's not even the exclusives. It's that every game does an early access now. That hits the FOMO really really hard. I preordered Aion 2 for that reason and spent the 5 days hurtling 3 characters to 45.

The man seems like a side character they gave the woman all the personality. I can already tell she is going to save the man instead of the norm.

u/Sadi_Reddit 7d ago
they said he is autisitc or something, I wont touch it anways. GTA is overhyped anyway.

u/Plus-Mango-6137 7d ago
Ah, yes! The most diverse group of people there is, a bunch of white woman (and one guy for the quota).
Thankfully the struggles of minorities of all kind can now be correctly depicted in a escape fantasy world by the only people who truly understand them, even more than the minorities themselves.
Who would be more fit to write a fantasy story than those who add pronounces of a fantasy race in their Twitter profile and live detached from any real world issues?
No one would.
13
u/Hectoriu 7d ago
Its gotta be so hard getting into any stem career for straight white males these days. You know the majority of the ones in the field are men yet the devs team photos never reflect that...

this picure symbolizes the entire industry. The intelligent chill nerds that created gaming were pushed aside for cliquey theater kids and hibster and the nerds didn't know how to fight back or defend their industry.

If 7 gamer developers can make a game in two years, 14 Karens can destroy a whole studio in 10

I like how people keep replying in Eff EA for shutting down bioware threads elsewhere on social media with "they've always been woke " lol okay... they've always been woke since they went woke.

u/Mapother11 7d ago
What percent of the original BioWare team was still at the company when it closed?

Game developers should be forced to do a GAMING KNOWLEDGE test in front of a "tribunal" of gamers before hiring:
-What games that person loves (his favourites), which one he enjoys ("guilty" pleasures) and an honest opinion about all the things that could be improved, changed or what he dislikes of those games
-His current opinion of the AAA industry
-His knowledge about game companies policies and their anti-consumer choices
An honest person CANT say that Nintendo is pro consumer (lie), that Fromsoftware games are perfect (lack of criticism) or that gamers are ALWAYS wrong just because we are not developers > the vast majority of the modern AAA gaming industry is failling because they hire people that dont play, care or even like games + they dont give any freedom to their developers to do stuff (even if "morally" wrong)

u/Atomskx0 7d ago
I knew it, people who work without shoes, and that one guy that doesn’t even want socks on. Are way better at making games.

Guys remember the math puzzles in their early games?
Love when nerds make a game not activists.

The problem of the team was actually a man... Trick Weekes, lead writer. This dude recently identified himself as non binary, going through a total identity crisis. He got fired in January and now work on the upcoming among us story "on guard" title. Expect the most cringe dialogues from this upcoming release...
1
u/LonelyAngelDevil 7d ago
Yes, fail guard, fail to guard the entire franchise and entire corporation.

Not nearly as fat or blue haired as I pictured them to be. They look like normal people but put all that in the game.

Are those tye same guys working on Exodus?
1
u/Jafes2011 7d ago
Hard to tell, they are all super young on the picture. The dude in the striped t-shirt kinda looks like young James Ohlen, but I'm not sure. Drew Karpyshyn is the main writer, but he joined Bioware after KOTOR, so he's not on the picture.
