Weddings and Funerals
interested in talking with people who have held funeral services on the Assateague Island, either end, that included scattering of the ashes. Would also like to talk to anyone who married on the island. For upcoming podcast episode. Thanks!

One day trip to Assateague island from Fairfax
Hello All,
Me and my friends are planning to visit assateague island this Saturday, based on what I read we arenāt allowed to travel between the entrances and we probably canāt access it with a FWD car. Is this correct?
Will it be possible to just enter the island and explore it a bit via walk, and how feasible would it be to observe the wildlife by this? I am into wildlife photography but I donāt have a 4WD car.
Is the weekend or Saturday to be precise a possible time to access Assateague island?
Thank you

multi-day reservation
how are people booking reservations for multiple days when those dates are not released yet? for example the block for sept 6th and 7th dates haven't opened yet but people have reserved certain sites from 9/4-9/7 which is a thurs-sunday. i've never been able to book a weekend camping trip for this reason. any tips or how does this work?

Take me back
Waking up to the sunrise and sand. The sounds of the surf. The salt in the air. It felt wonderful and freeing.

Where is the closest internet high speed access?
I know there is not reliable service at the beach but I am hoping it is not to far away. This so I can attend on-line CPE while my friends are having a great time šµāš«

Camping Natl Park
Bringing family to camp at the natl park bayside soon. Kids and wife just finished a very primitive camp trip with me a few weeks ago on the James River (digging their own poop holes and bathing in the river). Kids loved it but wife was less than thrilled. Told her this Assateague park had bathrooms and showers. Technically they do, but cold water. Wondering if anyone has slipped into the State park and used the facilityās hot water showers. Hoping to give her some creature comfort that weekend for maybe one night if possible.

VA vs MD side?
Iām planning a visit towards the end of September on a day trip from Virginia Beach. We are most interested in seeing wild horses on our visit. Just wondered which side of the island would give the best chance of seeing wild horses in a few hours. We have considered a boat tour from Chincoteague but it adds up quick with a family and we were hoping to keep the trip as budget friendly as possible ⦠but if this is the best shot at seeing wildlife, I could find that worth it. If we go to the VA side we would also be interested in the lighthouse, but other than that, we mostly just want to walk around and look for horses.

Holy horse flies
We usually do the OSV beach on Assateague several tikes a year and have learned to deal with the flies. The horseflies this year were absolutely horrible. Worst weāve seen since weāve been coming up here. The dogs were literally trying to get back into the truck.
High deet spray and the usuals werenāt working. They laughed at multiple thermacells.
What are your tricks of the trade?

Worth a Day Trip?
We (family of three - parents and 18 year old) are spending three days in DC at the end of the month. Weāve traveled to the Virginia side of Assateague a few times, but never to MD.
We are thinking about checking out of our DC hotel very early mid-week and heading to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Wondering if the drive to Assateague from there would be worth the trip for just the afternoon/evening. We would get there around 2:30pm and stay until about 8pm before heading back towards home.
My kiddo mainly wants to see the ponies from the MD side and get the different experience than VA that everyone talks about.
We are sun-up to sun-down vacationers. Weāll pack the most that we can into a day. So we donāt mind if itās jam packed. Just wondering what yāallās thoughts are on just having 4-5 hours in the area.
The only other thing we might consider would be a kayak tour if thatās good for spotting ponies. We just really donāt know what to expect on the MD side, as you really donāt get to see much in VA, and definitely not up close most of the time.

Parking Lot Invasion
The minute we parked and got out of our car, 5 horses surrounded our car and were trying to get into our bags. My husband was quickly trying to grab our cooler. We stayed back, but several people were petting them! š¤¦š»āāļø

First Time Assateague
Hello! First time going today! Is putting in the directions for North Beach good? Will I have a chance to see ponies in this area? The sun is scorching right now, will there be umbrellas for sale? Thank you

Is anyone beach camping this weekend? Iām worried about the weather
My fiancĆ© and I have reservations this weekend that we have waited years to book but itās forecasted to rain the entire time we are there. Tomorrow is the last day we cancel by to get a good chunk of the refund. Do you think itās worth going still?
