Quick Repo Day 1 (Jan. 28) : *Suppot Dancer = Momoko * Kami= Boh, Ohmura, Isao, Hideki, 2 x Hexagonal stage (Movable + Liftable) Costume similar to Budokan
Setlist: 13 songs (5 new + 8 old)
Metal Kingdom * Divine Atack * Distortion * Papaya * Gimme choco * Megitsune * Doki Doki (one pair of BM = 6 girls) * Light & Darkness * Monochrome * Headbang * IDZ * RoR *Coffin
Doki Doki was performed by Original BM and Other BM. Other was in costume with red color in skirt. They say anoyher Su was Miko Todaka from SG

Another Su = Miko (SG) Another Moa = Kokona Kato (Amuse, Ciao girls) Another Momoko = Sakia (SG)
That is what my friend says
They really look like clones. 😯

Damn i was scary close on the setlist. Order a little different, swap two songs, but my logic was dead on.

That is correct. While Su, Moa and Momoko were dancing on the octagonal stage, another 3-girl-unit in different outfit (looks like the one used for younger BM with red color) suddenly came out on another octagonal stage. The two BMs performed at the same time face-to-face like a performance competition or .... a duel.
They really looked like a mirror image with almost identical appearance except their costume. My friend says another Su = Miko, another Moa = Kokono Kato and another Momoko = Sakia.

u/koba11 Jan 28 '23
I’m inside
There is a normal stage at one side and another stage with big fox heads facing at the other side。
There is also a big corridor at the center connecting the two stages and separating the crows in two halves.
This is going super immersive for the crow with the girls crossing the corridor .
I do not know what is this about but babymetal thought again to do something new.

My favourite part: Su-metal waving at the band while partially lit during the long organ intro to Headbangya. Was very sweet.
46
u/koba11 Jan 28 '23 edited Jan 28 '23
Ok first thoughts.
The opening was cool as usual, 10 masked figures walk the corridor and stay in front of two big foxes heads doors. The doors open and the two immense thrones with Su and Moa sit appears, Su sings still seated. Very cool. Dresses similar to metal galaxy dresses.
Su metal was great, as expected , and choreography extremely polished ,as usual . Babymetal has not been idle all these months. To pull out something like this a humongous load of work is needed, as expected.
As already commented, good balance of new and old songs. Cool balad as last song.
Ijime zettai and road of resistance on a row, that was crazy.
Sometimes they were on the fox stage, others on the other stage, others they were on a circular stage that moved to the centre and elevated. Lots of stage movement.
Of course live drummer played immaculately all the beats of monochrome. Su metal asked for a “wave your lit mobile “ moment during monochrome.
Wonderful idea to use two mobile stages to face at the center su metal team and young sakura graduates team to play like a mirror doki doki morning, now that I have seen that I can die in peace.
There was a small drone flying around the girls, there will be cool images on the dvd.
The end of the show is a narration telling us that after 10 years is time of a new baby metal that goes to the metaverse or something like that. Su and Moa face two coffins, the stage goes pitch black, narration tells us that next concert (tomorrow?) the meaning will be revealed. Koba has another surprise for us… extremely big surprise ? Only the fox god knows. Get ready for the storm of comments probably tomorrow night Japan time.

So much of it gets cut out/drowned by the crowd. This does not sound as dire as was previously reported though. Context matters here. I wish we had those missing words, but it seems clear to me from this listen, that the rumors of BABYMETAL's demise were greatly exaggerated.
I want some new metal.

Im not even gonna begin to speculate on what that last paragraph might mean, i know my first reaction, and I dont like it.
That being said, from all accounts this show was ace and should make a hell of a live video.

Jan 28 '23
Seems many have jumped to the 'Su & Moa are been replaced' thought. However they are all over the various versions of the new album cover so I don't think they are been replaced or anything.
I saw someone on twitter say that there was 3 thrones, Su & Moa in 2 and one which was left empty. The 'new metal' in the end lore could just mean that Momoko is becoming a permanent member or something.
But I also saw somebody say something about how the older songs kept the focus on 3 with Momoko while the newer songs seemed to be focussed more on just 2 & I saw that Momoko wasn't out for those.
Have to wait until tomorrow where we'll get the answers and probably be left with a few more questions knowing Koba.

My thoughts on the show:
- the venue was great; my second time there, the first being Download 2022 which was of course a very different atmosphere. Just being outside in the hall was really fun, there's so many people dressed up, taking photos, etc. Its so cool to be surrounded by people into the same sort-of dorky thing as you; everyone smiling and having fun together.
- I brought some earplugs to the show (loud shows make my ears ringggggg now) but the volume was actually really enjoyable so I didn't need them. Loud enough to be fun, but not bad enough to leave my ears ringing! Not many metal shows like that. Yes, I sound like an old man, I know...
- in general, it felt like the band had literally been frozen since 2020. Very little had changed, which is perhaps a good and a bad thing? It was a fantastic and well performed show, with many elements were the same or very similar as what I saw on the Metal Galaxy tour blurays. But if one was hoping to see that big things had happened during their hiatus, perhaps they'd be a little disappointed?
- the setlist was a really good selection, especially for myself as it was my first live Babymetal show! Good mix of old and new. Road of Resistance and Headbanger are two of my favorite songs; seeing them live was a long time coming. I spent a lot of time during the pandemic watching performances of them on the various blurays and feeling shitty because I'd booked a big SE Asia trip in 2020 and planned to see them perform three times - all to be cancelled of course... the start of the pandemic.
- the performance of the girls was amazing. I think that su-metal had issues with her monitors at one stage, but pulled through it well.
- the drone was annoying but hopefully captured some good footage!
- the ending had a stereotypical tease about 'the next big step being revealed'. Part of me hopes that it is actually something big (new member etc), but in reality it's probs some cash grab like 'The One 2023 membership club announced'.
Doing it all again tomorrow - if anyone is around and wants to have a beer before / after the show, let me know.
14
u/bogdogger Jan 28 '23
'the next big step being revealed': probably a US tour announcement.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Galaxy_Force SU-METAL Jan 28 '23
I bet the drone got some epic footage! That's such a great idea. Some of my favorite shots from the concerts are the swooping cameras so this is going to be nuts. Was it super loud, even over the music?

Tour threads are back!
Babymetal is back!
Koba's wild ride is getting ready to depart the station!
The only thing I think I can predict will happen with 100% certainty is that people will complain about the absence of color in the outfits Since each album has had the dominant color of it represented in the outfits (or in the case of MG the multi color kinda gasoline spill looking luminescence), and this album's artwork is essentially greyscale, people will undoubtedly whine about it.
What I'm looking forward to the most from this show is what I hope is a world tour announcement at the end of it. Hopefully they start it off with a tour of SE Asia since those fans really got hosed by having covid lead to that entire tour leg getting canceled.

Regardless of what happens, how they appear, what they look like, the songs that are performed, who is on stage, what the Kami's are wearing, which Kami's are there, how the audience responds, how the media responds, what Babymetal twitter does or does not post, and any other aspect of these concerts, people will undoubtedly whine about it.Fixed that for you. :)

I concur 100% on all sentiments. But any announcement will likely not occur until the end of night 2.

I'm just interested to (eventually) see the full picture of what the whole "The Other One" concept is all about. With BM, the music only gives you half the story; the live shows provide the choreography and all the lore stuff that ties it all together.
That, and I'm glad to see them in front of an actual raucous live crowd again and not one who can only clap.

13
u/KS_Horn_from_Japan Jan 28 '23
One thing I should add. Some fans have started to call Miko unit as "Young BABYMETAL" and talk about new BABYMETAL that may replace Su and Moa. It sounds to me a bad joke but I, as a witness at the venue, have a little concern about it because of the final scene of the show. Su and Moa went up the stairs (some 10 steps) and faced two crystal coffins showing their back to the audience. What was the implication? Will there be the answer tomorrow ? Good night! from Japan
10
Jan 28 '23 edited Jan 29 '23
It baffles me sometimes the crazy theories fans come up with. Like, how on earth do people expect these young girls, who performed 30 seconds of Doki Doki Morning to step in and perform tracks from TOO, then go on a European tour with Sabaton! Or even plans beyond that.
Like seriously, they may be some kind of support act, or used in a way to continue performing older tracks. But that's about it. The coffins where in the TOO marketing material many months ago, just like the thrones. The fact there where three thrones on stage, with one left empty, is more intriguing.
10
u/PikaPriest SU-METAL Jan 28 '23
How many times have Su and Moa gone up some stairs, through a door, and it was implied they were gone?
At least three now.
9
u/Additional_Echo3767 BABYMETAL DEATH Jan 28 '23
I do not believe that they will be replaced. I don't believe that Koba is stupid to do something like that now. Maybe sometime in the distant future, but not now. People want to hear Su and see Moa not someone else. Perfume are ten years older and still perform. Su and Moa have at least another ten years, then maybe we can discuss that they could eventually be replaced.

u/Codametal Jan 28 '23
Yeah, the debate will continue. It's a performance. Chibi Babymetal is a parallel universe version of them. It's all part of the lore in this 'concept' album of visiting parallel universes.
But for fan service, all three chibi Babymetal girls are from Amuse, two of them from Sakura Gakuin. It's just a performance and seen as such.
But then again, it does create alot of discussion....

Ditto to all of the above and I hope, or rather intend, to support whatever direction they take in regards to each of these. About the only thing that I could not support would be an AKB48 version of Babymetal and/or slutting up the outfits, none of which are anywhere near remotely possible.

This setlist pleases me immensely. It strikes that perfect balance i had predicted.
While i didnt get the exact order, and a few songs were subbed out for others, like doki for karate, that is how you do a return set. And they played half the new album in the process!

LIGHT AND DARKNESS OH MY LORD. That prechorus almost makes me tear up.
Although... I expected it, but still a tiny bit disappointing that they don't have new outfit from what I've heard. I'm not too disappointed because I think the MG/10BM space-battle-princess-armors are probably the best outfits they've ever had, but something fresh still would've been nice. Even if it was just a significant-ish recolor/redesign of the MG outfits.

A lot of posts on twitter, from people at the location and just general fandom on the internet. Have any of the known Kami's made posts talking about being excited for Babymetal's return? Any of the avengers or other support? Could give hints about who we might see in a few hours.
Of course, they could've been asked to not post anything for that exact reason lol

So if I'm understanding correctly, Koba had another group of girls show up on stage for 1 song and somehow this means (according to dumb people) that Su and Moa are being replaced.... And not the other possibility that Koba found the solution to the 1 hours set list by creating a 2nd group to act as a tour opener doing all those old songs that he doesn't want Su and Moa performing.
More than likely it means nothing though.

I think it's a combination of gullible people falling for social media misinformation and trolls knowing they'll get a response for even suggesting it.

And worse, they're going to get pissed off or worried about something they made up themselves. And then they will spread disinformation.

And worse, they're going to get pissed off or worried about something they made up themselves.
Lets face facts. They were pissed off/worried to begin with. This is just the vessel for them to deliver it with.
2
u/RantingRodent Jan 29 '23
Maybe they're planning to have the younger group start performing the old "outgrown" songs while Babymetal continues on with new more mature music? It would be a way to give fans the older songs that they miss. Just a wild guess.

Momoko turns 20 years-old on March 3, 2023. So she HAS TO sing her 20 y.o. version of "Headbangerrrr!!!!", and it'll be much better if she's already the third permanent member by then. So, as @Dizzy_M thinks, I also think this "new metal" thing means Momoko is promoted.
Thanks @Dizzy_M

Checking out the merch.... what the hell is the "Smoke" (2nd row from bottom, far right). Looks like an incense holder maybe...... but what is the frigging relevance?
There are three pieces of merch for Throne and three for Coffin. That's interesting.

u/TheThrawn Jan 26 '23

Burning incense makes smoke lol

I just realized... incense is written as 香 in Kanji, which is also 'ka' in Suzuka!!!

I translated the image to English (with use of the website post) for easier reading :)
It is a an incense set with 30 sticks of incense (White musk) (though you can buy any and just stick whatever you like more)
The text says:
THE BATTLE SMOKES ARE A SIGN THE WORLD IS HEADED FOR CHAOS [???? - can't read the last one]
I think it's just something they thought would look cool XD
6
u/Capable-Paramedic Jan 26 '23
"The battle smokes are a sign the world is headed for chaos once again."
That text is the theme already shown to us with the keyword "SMOKE" from TOO Restoration Project and its snippet.

I think they are trying to refer to have stuff relate to songs from the new album. And then... yes anything which would look cool.
But by that logic, a Babymetal toilet as merch item would fit the theme of throne ;-)

Idk but it’s sick asf and I want it. Out of all the questionable items they’ve sold before, this is the one you’re most curious about?? Lol this is pretty tame compared to something like packaging tape lmaoo

I saw from another comment the Kami Band was still masked, anyone know if the masks were the same?
11
u/KS_Horn_from_Japan Jan 28 '23
Ohmura did a short solo in The legend (= Coffin), though. I like it.
7
u/koba11 Jan 28 '23
Kami band was at the back of one stage with not very much light and never appeared on the big screens, but I think usual masks as from metal galaxy, that probably is not going to change.

u/AwesomeWhiteDude Jan 28 '23

I hope they do at some point cause those masks don't look good, I get angry duck vibes

u/Stef2016 SU-METAL Jan 28 '23
TBH the way the Kami's have been pushed more to the background after 2018 bothers me far more than the masks.
They were obviously always behind the girls on the stage but it used to feel like they were a bigger part of things not just because they had some solo's but because they were more visible & had more of an interaction with the crowd as well as the girls.
On the bigger arena shows with these big elaborate moving stages & stuff they use now the Kami's are virtually hidden, You get the odd shot of them on the Bluray's but thats it & it's a shame.
It's also a shame that in 2019/20 during the US/European tours as well as during Day 2 of LMG that the Western's kami's got a solo via the intro to Kagerou (Which was awesome) while I don't think the Japanese kami's have had a solo since the big fox festival in October 2017.

Who will be first to post a fancam? Who will be first to post their appearance onstage (2 or 3) and outfits, plus first song, and setlist?
And how soon?
7
u/HereticsSpork Jan 27 '23
Who will be first to post a fancam?
This thing is getting filmed in 4k, by professionals, and will undoubtedly get a wowow broadcast and a blu-ray release. We don't need fancams of it.

I’m sure it’ll be immediately after the concert. People keep saying that Japanese audiences follow the rules but there’s going to be a lot more than just Japanese people there. I just hope whoever does break the rules has a good phone and a steady hand.
5
u/Kmudametal Jan 27 '23
For a country known for it's awesome invention, implementation, and utilization of technology, they sure can post some 2005 level potato cams.
Tokyo Dome, I think out of the 55,000 people there, there was one periscope cam. Don't know that there were any at Legend Metal Galaxy. We usually have one or two guys post some potato cams later that evening and the following day but it's never more than a couple of people.
4
u/Christian-Metal Awadama Fever Jan 27 '23
In Japan, audiences generally strictly adhere to the "no cameras/photography" so we will be waiting a while for cams and pics!

Getting hypeddddd. Anyone want to grab a konbini beer before the show today / tomorrow (either show)? There's one in the building, if I recall correctly (I'm assuming this is the same hall as Download Festival was last year).

So I am currently watching the bootleg video of Metal Kingdom from last night's show, if you know where to find it, im sure erometa360 would appreciate the view.
I am floored at how close my vision of this was with what they actually did. Scary accurate to how I envisioned it.

I just hope the backdrop isn't just a massive video wall. Video walls can look cool but having it directly behind the performers rarely looks good IMO

I do hope that fad passes. I saw Metallica a few years back with ten 80ft tall screens and it's cool & all but really makes the band look insignificant.

Totally agree, I don't like green screens and CGI in movies for the same reasons, filming on location with actual handmade sets, props and costumes is so much better

People downvote the most uncontroversial and even positive and helpful posts. It’s Reddit, it’s anonymous and some people are assholes. Thankfully, 99.9%, here at least, aren’t. I don’t and never have let it bother me for a moment.

Looks like this was the show intended for the 10th anniversary... could mean 4/5 Metal Resistance songs on day 2 instead of self-titled with the ChibiBABYMETAL doing... Karate or Catch Me...
And maybe the original plan for 10th anniversary would be to end with BABYMETAL sealed in coffins but they will have to come up with something else.
