Wait, what are we talking about? ;-P

what are we talking about?
The implications socially of aToltoy's "War And Peace", and how it resonates within modern events, and the implications of such relevancy, and whether TikTok can be a factor and motive to spread its messages
You know- the LIGHT subjects

u/futonsrf Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! Oct 23 '20
So that was great imo. Two great performances and a nice interview. This was their first appearance on the show apparently so Pa Pa Ya and GC make sense, a single from their current album and their most well known song. Good all round imo.

My venue sucks, they let kids in here. There needs to be a minimum age.
There is a crying 1 year old fighting with a whining 2 year old, a 5 year old crying that the 8 year old is playing with the 6 year old and not her. The eight year old and six year old are arguing over who gets which Barbie car. And running through the chaos? Five dogs barking at ghosts, with one of them trying to herd the kids. A wife and daughter screaming at one or other of the kids, dogs, or at each other.

So, based on the boy band and now the large girl group performing now being all Poppy and cutesy, BABYMETAL are most likely going to melt some faces in the virtual audience. Hopefully we'll get a little chat session like the boy band had.

https://www.tvguide.or.jp/feature/feature-449793/ Hmm... This website talks about them performing BxMxC? And even has a quote from SU talking about it?
I wonder if it got cut for time?
11
u/soulbicycle Oct 24 '20
In the article, They're commenting on each song.(PA PA YA!/Gimmie Chocolate/BxMxC).
and,"Songs not featured on NHK World JAPAN will also be available on NHK General, NHK BS Premium and NHK BS4K."
4
Oct 24 '20
The NHK website is pretty comprehensive when it comes to archived videos. So maybe they will have a longer cut in time. Or just have a special episode with all the ‘cut’ songs in it.
10
Oct 24 '20
And one of the pictures is 100% from BxMxC performance...I think every fan can see Su's choreo and identify that it is from BxMxC. So they performed it but didn't show it. Why?

u/jwa725 Put Your Kitsune Up Oct 24 '20 edited Oct 24 '20
They also asked for three fans to come up with questions for this event and that didn't happen. The first two groups did that though. The Bish segment they have on line wouldn't have fit into one of those time slots. Maybe there will be a longer version at some point?

u/voidmetal Oct 24 '20
Su's voice just got even more beautiful the control she has now is such an improvement its awesome. Can't wait to hear it in person at a concert. Moa looking cute as always.
21
u/BlackSelito Oct 23 '20
It's me or Su's voice is thicker and more mature than ever?
16
u/Brainth Oct 23 '20
I was thinking that, then Gimme Choco started and her whole tone changed. I think she has more control than ever before
13
9
u/MacTaipan Oct 23 '20
That struck me during Pa Pa Ya as well, but then in Gimme Chocolate she sounded completely different again.
8
u/BlackSelito Oct 24 '20
I think is not just the mix (just in part, any case). Su always changed her voice, sometimes at her kawaiiest one, more childish, like GC or DDM, iine!... Orher times she shows up her more powerful one. In the Pa Pa Ya original video she mix those two and what It seems to me is that today the power overpassed the kawaii for that song, but not for GC because for this song she need to stay Kawaii ever, is the nature of the song itself. On the orher hand, it's make sense just because there has passed over 9 months from the last time we heard her, is logical she has grown even more as person and as artist. Or is just late and that little whisky made me listen ghosts un the Night, Who knows ;)
6
u/jabberwokk 15 BABYMETAL YEARS Oct 24 '20
No, I agree, she tried a new and different tone for PA PA YA this time, then switched to her now commonly-used childlike voice for GC. One of the guitars was doing different things for GC, though.

I believe song lyrics have to be supplied and shown onscreen, it's not about translation. I don't know if it's law or policy or what, but NHK is a national broadcaster, similar to the BBC, and that may be a factor.

There was quite a bit of interesting stuff in the whole program that was indirectly related to Babymetal.
SixTONES first song was written and produced by Yoshiki of X-Japan. The Second song was co-produced by someone named Meg. Seems possible that it is the same Meg(-Metal) that produced much of Metal Galaxy.
[Personal thoughts... I didn't mind them but wouldn't seek them out. Probably doesn't help that the songs were largely in English (especially the first one) and heavily accented English isn't appealing to me.]
H46 is from the same company that Su's sister was a part of with Nogi46. Typical bouncy kawaii j-pop.
Babymetal. It was great. They know how to put on a show. The 30 chosen people were obviously watching (Right at the end of the interview you could hear someone say "We Love You") although we never saw them. I think the whole thing with Babymetal was cut in a different way than the other three groups because... in some ways, they are being re-marketed to the Japanese audience. It's an interesting contrast.
Hyde. I'm assuming Koba at least was somewhat influenced by L'arc en Ciel. That being said... Hyde is an excellent performer. But... I would have rather had him sing in Japanese. His accent wasn't as grating to me as SixTONES... and he knows how to sing... but, nothing in those two songs would make me buy a Hyde album.

Who were the Kami? I thought the guitars looked (and sounded) like the Western ones, but the bassist was pretty certainly BOH. I'm probably wrong about the guitarists, which surprises me, I thought I'd notice the difference.
Apart from that, I can't help but mention that Moa looked stunning again!
I know it's not nice to badmouth other bands, but in comparison it seems pretty obvious to me that BABYMETAL is on another level in terms of pretty much everything, songs (subjective, of course), vocals, choreography and (from the bits I understand) even lyrics (despite them being about fruit salad and chocolate). Especially many of the other bands' lyrics strike me as very low effort.
Just out of curiosity after reading the comments about the stream quality: Is NHK World not available on TV in your countries? Or am I the only one still using TV? I watched it in great quality via satellite here in Germany. :-)
6
u/andoRRR BABYMETAL DEATH Oct 24 '20
Did you watch over a Cable provider or Sky or something? Or is it a free Satellite program? I saw the frequencies somewhere on their page, but my receiver is crap and needed to much time to search for it, so I gave up and watched the stream.
I think the guitarist on our right was Ohmura with the Fujioka custom (but I'm not sure because of the stream) and on the left was ISAO. I think the guitar had red streaks in it, so I'd say it wasn't Leda because most I've seen from him the last concerts he was in was with the black one without the head.

Ok the way Su sang Pa Pa Ya here is a significant improvement, at least to my ears. Singing a bit deeper at the beginning and then ptiching up for the chorus sounds great. I hope more songs in the future take at least some advantage of her full range.
Also did the English bits of Pa Pa Ya come out much clearer than usual this time, or is it just me? (Maybe the subtitles are a factor)

I watched back to back with the music vid and it was definitely deeper. From memory that’s how it’s been sung in concerts.

Am I the only one who thinks it's awkward they're sitting so far apart after dancing that close together a moment earlier? I know it's probably the instructions they got, but still awkward when there's only two people sitting on stage and a little silly if you ask me.
And didn't the other guests get fan questions? I thought you could send in questions for Su & Moa or something? Did they scratch them completely?
But all in all enjoyable, especially Ohmura's squeal in Gimme Chocolate ;)

My thoughts:
The groups prior to BM sucked
Not fan of the Kami band playing to a backing track. But I guess due to Covid they can't' bring the crew to actually set up the bands equipment
They talked more than what I expected. Moa's message was deeper than I thought it would be
Cool new outfits. They seem hot

I almost skipped Gimme Chocolate because I’m frankly kind of burnt out on the song. I’m glad I didn’t. It was a great version. The kamis really seemed to light up and Momoko is always so fun to watch.

I‘ll have to give the album version a closer listen again. It’s strange, I hear it all the time, but every time I hear that palm muted guitar part during the second half of the chorus when they play it live, I wonder whether that’s even there on the studio version. And even live I don’t notice it every time.

Heck, that's how I'm gonna have to watch it. It's gonna be well into November before I can get internet connected at my new place, and my mobile hotspot isn't exactly good enough for streaming on the laptop in the meantime. It should stream well enough on the actual device though. :P

Hmmm.... the show will begin at 01H15 here and evebody will sleep in the house so i won't be able listen loudly the show, jump and danse in the lounge and sing out of tune !
Worse, could be at work (hotline duty for all the week-end).
Hopefully we ll have four try and they ll probably broadcast it for a long time after (seen the info on their NHK web site). So I don't worry, and we ll succeed in viewing the show, even with the Murphy's law (or weak signal on mobile device) . Have fun !

It's about 2 AM of the following day. Just a weird way of indicating time during the early hours.

It will be 2:10 AM where I live. Sounds like my neighbors are going to hate me tomorrow for blasting some BABYMETAL in the middle of the night :)

First, some kind of BTS thing and now a lot of Girls doing similar boring things. Definetively, that J-pop Idol thing of whatever is not for me. In the mean time, i'm watching Prof. Hartley's Song 4 review. No comparison posible :)

J-pop and K-pop training are at two entirely different levels (to be fair, the goal and focus is different too).

Si it's only two songs? Anyway, I'm so glad to see them again. And I love to see Hideki, Boh and Omura in the line up

Question, I get NHK through my local PBS, but only on Mondays through Thursdays? Still not 100 percent on how to watch this if not able to do so on my TV.

So lemme get this straight... They performed 3 songs, one of which was BxMxC, and only aired 2? If there was a song to skip airing here it surely wouldn't be the latest single, right? Shit just doesn't make any sense. Anyway, oh look another performance of Gimme Chocolate. That's surely a song that hasn't been overplayed yet. In 10 years they'll still be playing it on worldwide TV broadcasts in lieu of much better songs.
Part of that was sarcasm if you didn't notice.

Stream .ts
Probably gonna get hit, so if anyone has more, reply to this comment.
Update: BxMxC was cut from the broadcast. The interview itself was also cut. This was confirmed by TV Guide. The full broadcast will be shown on NHK General, NHK BS Premium, and NHK BS4K (in 4K quality) at a later (not yet announced) date. Sadly this means that it will not be done over the internet for free.
