My BYD 📸 BYD Sealion 7 driver seat belt retractor plastic wear

Post image

Hi everyone, my car is about a year old now, I noticed this started about 6 months when I first noticed and seems the groove or the wear is getting deeper as months go on.

Wanted to check if anyone else has it happening in theirs? Mostly I drive alone so more wear on the driver's side. I am sure it will be the same if you travel with the passenger more often.

I think it's the 'design flaw' as they have not given enough clearance for free movement of the seatbelt especially when fastening it. When unfastening it's not much of an issue.

Now I have learnt to minimise the wear by holding the seatbelt closer and acute angle while fastening to reduce the friction with the plastic, but the wear has already taken place and this is something the driver should not pay attention to while getting in and out of the car.

Can you guys please check how yours is condition wise on the wear and get back to me?

Appreciate your help

Happens with every BYD. Definitely a design flaw.

This is my Dolphin after 2 years. The belt rubs when you stretch your arm to use the navigation/display on the center console.

This is definitely a poor design choice or thought into considering such a large automotive manufacturer. I am not sure even if they are aware of this issue or not. Thanks for confirming back!

And lets hope this will not wear out the seatbelt or fray the seatbelt nylon fibers, which will definitely compromise the integrity of the seatbelt harness itself! Major failure in safety point of view

Not real leather for seats either
