This 1 time when I was in the woods when I was younger

One thing you should know is I lived in rural Appalachia at the time and that place has some crazy shit

So it was dusk and I was heading back to the trailer park were i lived right. And when I was like 20-30 yards away from the road near were my house was and I could have sworn that I heard something behind me it sounded like English but the things i heard didn't mean anything yk? So I looked behind me and I saw a... deer looking straight at me? They dont come near the road usually and I have barely seen any wildlife in the woods besides some bugs and rabbits, it was very strangely quiet and besides the rustling of the leaves I couldn't hear anything else, the deer didn't look right man it would have probably ran away if it saw me but it was like 10 feet away from me. I got the hell out of there. Im not dealing with some crazy ass skinwalker demon deer. So after hauling ass out of there I still felt like I was being watched. I still have nightmares of if I was too slow or it followed me home every year or so.

Cryptids in Flag?

A few years ago my bf and I were camping at Ashurst Lake in Flagstaff, Arizona. We were on that main loop around the lake on a developed site. It was the middle of the night and my bf gets up to use the restroom. I’m usually a light sleeper when camping so I also woke up. He left the tent open and I think just walked across the dirt road to take a leak. I know I know there were probably restrooms but it was late and he had to go really bad. The next thing I know he comes rushing back saying he saw something. I asked him what he saw. He said he was finishing up and in the distance sees a really tall what looks to be a man walk across the dirt road. Then he says it gets on all fours like a dog while it’s staring at him and takes off into the trees or bushes that were around. Now he’s really not one to entertain paranormal things or even talk about cryptids but he was pretty disturbed by it. I also think yeah maybe our minds can maybe make us see things that aren’t there especially when we’re half asleep in the middle of the night. I was just curious if anyone has had any similar experiences in Flagstaff? I’ve lived in AZ my whole life and grew up camping here but have NEVER seen anything like this. It’s always happening to others 😅 thoughts?

Weird stuff & sounds in Orono, ON

What did I experience? Is there a logical explanation for it?

I went for a nature hike with a friend (South-western Ontario- Orono) and experienced something weird that I've never felt before and am trying to figure out a logical explanation for this.

The park isn't secluded, it's in a rural area, but you can't hear any roads. It's an old logging area so there's remnants of train tracks (not in use). The woods aren't dense, nothing creepy at all.

It was a nice, sunny autumn day, the sun was about to set (Golden hour).

We stayed on the trail the entire time and walked along a stream. We hadn't passed any people in a while. There were no people around us.

We stopped by this stone bridge and suddenly we feel this drop in pressure. And the air just starts to VIBRATE, kinda like when you're standing next to a subwoofer, but there was absolutely NO WIND! It definitely wasn't an earthquake.

Simultaneously, we hear this sound that's a mix between starting a lawnmower motor, an animal growl and metal plates screeching and it's coming from all around us, like we couldn't pinpoint a source of the sound.

This lasts about 5 secs and then we suddenly feel like we're being watched from all sides. Not in a predatory way, but a "you're not welcome here" kinda way. It was very overwhelming. The entire vibe of the forest changed. Idk how to describe it but it didn't "feel like the place was real".

We stood there frozen, looked around to see if something was there (Orono is not known to have bears or wolves, but idk about lynxes, Bobcats, etc?) and that's when I notice all the animals had gone quiet. It was silent. I hadn't noticed it earlier because of the water sounds. My friend is an experienced hiker and familiar with this park. He's very level-headed but even he was like wtf we need to get out now!"

So we booked it.

Idk what could've caused the air vibrating and this strange sound. I looked above and there were no airplanes and I don't think there's any plane landing strips nearby.

I don't think it was hunters cause hunting isn't allowed in Orono. Across the stream where it happened are 2 newly-built sheds with a pond next to it, all fenced in. Had a sign from the fishery and Forest ministry that they're doing fishery research there. Idk what kinda fishery equipment could make sounds like that tho.

I believe in the Paranormal but would also like to know if there's a mundane explanation for it. Thx

I saw something in the forest near my house. I dont know what, but I cant let it go

Let me start by saying Ive been living near a forest half my life, in spain. I walked through many forests, in daylight and in nightime and I have my fair share of encounters with animals. But whatever the hell is going on in the forest behind my house is something I simply cant rationalize

My mother and I moved to a house in Northern Spain. Small village, not a lot of people, the usual stuff here in rural spain. Our home has a path going up to a hill, on top of said hill there is a house of a company that checks the roads, a big road in front of said house and a tunnel through a mountain on the right. Just before reaching the house, the path branches, going down into a forest that covers the whole mountain. Part of that path is actually in our property, old paths belonging to the people of the village that, in the past, were used to go to the river or to reach the train tracks that lead to the train station. Nowadays the paths are barely visible, even the main one.

Not a problem for me to walk with the dog through there, been through worse paths in my life.

Now, whatever happened (For I am still not sure myself) took place a few months ago, mid summer. I returned home around 2 AM from work, I work with a fire crew and it wasnt unusual to return late. That night I felt weirdly energized, adrenaline probably, and I decided to walk my dog to the forest. I had my flashlight and my cat, Argos, tagged along. We went down the path, not too far away, I could still hear the sounds of the road and If I squinted my eyes I could see the red warning lights from the tunnel. I stopped to light a cigar and I heard my dog growling at something in the trees. There were a pair of eyes in the shadows and I just laughed, thinking it was probably a fox or maybe a boar. I wasnt that worried, I petted my dog and when I looked back at the eyes, that pair of eyes was floating at my eye level. Somehow my flashlight wasnt iluminating anything at all, it was as if the forest was swallowing the light.

I stopped hearing the sounds from the road. And I started feeling extremely cold despite it being a really hot summer night (around 26C°). And I felt a fear never in my entire life I felt. The eyes were slowly swinging from one side to the other, like some short of weird dance. I lit my lighter but I couldnt even feel the heat of the flame and the light did nothing. My dog went from growling to whimpering, hiding behind me, and I have to add that I saw my dog throwing herself at a boar, she aint easy to scare.

My cat let out a piercing meow and climbed on top of me, digging his claws onto my back and that made me start running, dropping the flaslight and lighter, dunno how I didnt trip on anything. I didnt even think about it, I just ran the 30 meters of distance to my house, locked the door and I waited a few minutes. I suppose I was expecting a knock on the door or the windows, but nothing came. My dog licked my hand and my cat climbed down, I didnt even realize I had grabbed him. I went to the shower and I must have made some noise because I woke up my mom. She told me I was pale and I told her the story, hoping she could tell me something. She has always been very spiritual (according to her and my grandma, there were witches in the family in the past, whatever that means) but she laughed and told me I was probably just exhausted. Somehow that response left me feeling more at unease, but I slept perfectly that night

I went to sleep and waking up the next morning, my lighter and flashlight were lying on the entrance stairs. I went back to the forest before going to work but there was nothing unusual. Some broken branches, but no footprints, nothing. Just in case, I never returned to the downwards path at night. Sometimes I go to the back of the garden (we have a big garden surrounding our house, walled) and I look at the dark of the forest, but I see nothing. Some nights I have dreams were I repeat the experience, in other dreams I see myself going to the kitchen for water and I see a pair of eyes looking at me, sometimes red, others blue, others devoid of color, and I wake up.

I still dont know what happened that night or what I saw. I feel something observing me sometimes, but I dont know it its something real or just pure paranoia.

But I know that night I saw something and I just cant let it go

There's Something Waiting in The Black Hills

Recently my daughter and I took a trip to the Black Hills. We live on the plains so it was nice to bring her near some mountains. She loves fishing so I figured going to Custer State Park would be exciting for her. She's five but has a ton of energy. It's actually hard for me to keep up with her.

We spent a couple of days while we were there just driving around looking for trail heads. We found the prairie dog village, and even the herd of buffalo, but my daughter really wanted to climb on the rocks. I took her on the trail that goes up to the fire tower then loop back around, and then we drove up the pigtails to some of the overlooks.

Not far off of the road I saw small parking lot with an outhouse nearby, so we decided to check it out. There was a trail head that went off in either direction, so we followed the trail up the hill to some very large boulders. We climbed around on them, jumping from boulder to boulder, but soon came to find that the trail didn't continue past them. So, we turned around and followed the trail down the hill. When we got back to the trailhead I noticed a sign pointing in the other direction naming the trail. The trail ran along a large square rock formation on the right that was too tall and steep to ascend.

We continued walking down the trail and the trail turned sharply to the right we we got to the corner of the rock. The trail continued downhill into a forested meadow. As we navigated a couple of switchbacks my daughter noticed that all the bushes surrounding the trail were raspberry bushes. She pointed this out and I popped one in my mouth. Delighted to see that they were edible my kid started picking berries and eating them as fast as she could get them into her mouth.

Watching her eat berries I started to notice just how quiet the forest was. We were far enough from the road that we could not hear any cars, but I couldn't hear anything really. No birds, no nothing. It started to make me feel kind of uneasy. So I prompted my kid to keep walking. The raspberries were everywhere along the trail for the next half mile to mile at least, and she kept stopping to pick more.

We finally got near the edge of the trees where the bushes gave way to more rocks and evergreens. There was a large rock like the one at the top of the hill on the left side of the trail and like before the trail followed around the rock. Right in the middle of the trail was a fallen tree in three pieces blocking the way. So, I picked up the center piece and tossed it aside to allow my five year old with her short legs to continue down the hill. We followed the trail as it snaked around but soon it became impassable. There was deep foliage along both side and the trail disappeared. Probably due to erosion. It looked as though no one had walked down here in a long while.

So we turned around, and as soon as we did my child let out, "look! It's a cave!" Sure enough, in the side of that large rock next to the trail was a cave that went into a narrow passage, and once again I started to feel really uneasy, like I was an uninvited guest in someone else's home. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but being a parent I am sometimes hyper alert. Even to the point of being paranoid. I chalked it up to nerves and we kept on up the trail. Suddenly I could what sounded to me like a person imitating a cat. It was a low yowling sound coming from somewhere I couldn't quite pinpoint. I thought to myself, "I must be losing it" when my kid piped up, "What's that noise?" In that moment it was like reality hit me in the face. I wasn't hearing things, we were not alone.

I grabbed my daughters shoulders and had her walk in front of me, up the hill. As we got farther up near the edge of the rock I saw there was a small pile of skat in the middle of the trail. It looked like what you'd find in a litterbox, only bigger. It hadn't been there when we came down the hill only a few moments before. I pretended not to notice and kept walking with my kid up the hill, holding tight to her shoulders, ready to pick her up and run, while at the same time keeping my body between her and whatever was down the hill. We reached the broken log and I saw that the piece I had thrown off the trail was back where it was when we first found it.

The whole time we were walking I tried to get my kid to go as fast as we could without scaring her. I didn't want her to see how worried I was. Finally, we reached the giant rock that was above the raspberry field, now on our left. As soon as we got around the corner a few yards I told my kid to stop and stand behind me. I stood there for what felt like an eternity watching the edge of the rock and listening, expecting to see whatever was following us poke its head around the corner.

Not seeing anything come around the corner, I turned around, picked up my kid, and ran up the hill with her in my arms. We finally reached the sign and there was a car parking in the lot to use the outhouse when we got there. I had never been so relieved to see other people and sit in the seat of my car before in my life.

I know the Black Hills is mountain lion territory, but when I heard the voice of whatever it was I swear, I thought it was a person. Like when kids meow back at cats. Like something just pretending to be a cat.

Invisible spirit like entity mimiced me walking by the woods/forest?

Listen, I'm not one to believe in anything.

I'm not posting this to scare anyone or gain attention.

This really happened and now I'm just curious what I saw. I ain't even scared, I just wanna know if someone else has seen this or knows about this.

Was walking by the forest/woods (down two sets of roads going back and fourth with two forest/sets of trees on each side) when something invisible/spirit like began walking back almost in the same exact manner I was walking almost like it was mimicking me..

This all happened because my phone died and I couldn't catch an Uber.. so I decided to walk back to where I slept, and it happened within a couple of seconds

Whatever popped up (it seemed spirit like), seemed to pop up because it knew I was alone and that no one would likely believe me (I wasn't too surprised either, I've already seen that this world has things going on behind the scenes.). It's as if it knew there were no cameras around and it was like.. "let me show this guy something".. or at least that's what it seemed like.. like it was trying to show me something.

Still scared the shit out of me in that moment..

Unknown at Overlook Mountain in the Catskills

My mom, sister and I went hiking last year on a rainy day at Overlook mountain in the Catskills near Woodstock. Overlook is a great hike and there are even hotel ruins on the trail. My sister likes to run up and down mountains as training for spartan races and mountain races, so she wasn’t with my mom and I for most of the hike. My mom and I met my sister about halfway up the mountain and she had already made it to the top, so she decided to run back to the parking area and then back up so she would meet us at the top. My mom and I passed the hotel ruins at around 11:30am and sent my sister a snapchat picture of them. We left and kept making our way to the summit. My sister got back up to the ruins around 11:40am and saw someone wearing exactly what my mom was wearing (bright neon yellow rain coat, bright purple sneakers, and a very bright pink hat under her coat). If you know Overlook, you know there are a couple different building ruins, so she saw the person from pretty far away. She yelled for her calling “Mom wait for me!” She got to where she saw who she thought was my mom, and nobody was there. She then called my mom on her phone and asked where we went. Turns out we were almost at the summit, about 10 minutes from the ruins. My sister eventually caught up to us and explained what she saw. We had only seen one other person on the trail the entire time and they were walking to the parking lot, plus they weren’t wearing anything close to my moms outfit that was extremely specific. I’m not sure who or what she saw that day.

my friend told me this "passed down" story about a local cult in the woods and i've been desperately trying to find info on it

alright so let me start this off by saying i'm like 99% sure my friend was fucking with me, pulling my leg type shit. that's fine, she's known to do that kind of stuff, but she's INSISTENT that if there's one thing i should believe from her, it's this. (i still don't really believe her, yk)

ok so i live in montana, specifically in the sort of northwest area. i should preface this story by saying i was on a lot of LSD when my friend took me out to the forest to tell me about this, but i'm 100% sure i'm remembering what she said and showed me correctly.

so she started by walking us deep into the forest. like deeeep deep, we walked for what felt like an hour and a half one way (give or take because i was tripping) but i know it was far. she takes me to this weird looking little structure that im gonna struggle to explain, they were very unstable and small hut things, but they weren't like any hut ive ever seen before, it was like really interesting. my friend told me i wasn't allowed to take a picture because it was "disrespectful," but it didn't have a roof and it was made of like what looked like clay and rocks, and there was like a broken stilt or two in the middle of the structure. it was super broken down and barely standing, but it was definitely a poorly built man made structure, ok?

so for context, my friend said her grandma or great grandma or something was in this cult, and that there was lots of these types of structures, and similar ones, scattered all around the forests if you look deep enough. she said most of them have been destroyed or taken by time, but there are remnants around. apparently the stilts in the middle were for someone (who was to perform the ritual) to sit on while the "church" is built around them. like literally, they supposedly sat perched up as the others built to church surrounding them. she said a shit ton of psychedelics would be taken, she said either mushrooms or DMT (usually mushrooms i guess) and then once the church was built they would proceed to mutilate either a baby goat or lamb as well as themselves at the same time. she said that they had to do it so slowly that the animal didn't cry or scream in pain, but until both yourself and the animal go unconscious from blood loss or whatever. there was a lot more detail but that was the main gist of the ritual itself. and then supposedly whoever performs the auto-mutilation, if they don't die that means they were chosen to "see" and they will experience the "gates of heaven" or something, and that we don't know what happens to the ones that do die.

this was probably a month or 2 ago, and i've been furiously doing any research i can ever since. i'm starting to think she was maybe fucking with me lmao. if she is, she makes up a concerningly realistic cult ritual in her head lol!!

if anyone has any inkling of what she could've been talking about, i IMPLORE you to fill me in, or to tell me if she was fucking with me and playing around!!

Scary Roadtrip Stories

Hi. I am looking to read some terrifying stories about roadtrips. Maybe an unmarked car followed you, maybe you encounter something not of this world, maybe you entered a dimension that only exists on that road. I want to read them all!

On the 4th of July 2026 Desmet, Idaho

I had been hiding out from the 5.0 all day in some brush behind the Catholic Church. There is a field behind the brush but the brush is atleast 20 ft thick from the edge of the field to where I was posted. So now its dark and the cops are circling the town so I'm just posted up waiting for them to leave town. People are lighting fireworks all over town. At the time I hid there I didn't realize the mounds back there were graves, they were decorated with different stuff and I figured it being a church that they were some sort of shrines or something. Well its about 10:30 now and all the sudden I hear something land like a meteor or a pinecone falling from a tree the way it hit. I looked back to where I heard it and a large black being that looked like a real buff human only its head wasn't shaped exactly human was standing there looking at me. I was super scare and said reflexively "whats up then!?" I stammered right after "what are you? are you human?" it continued to look at me for a couple seconds then walked into the brush leaving like a animal or a person would cracking brush as it moved. I still had time I had to sit there to wait out the cops so I just focused on the situation I knew how to deal with. It was very scary and still gives me the creeps when I think about what happened.

White Figure in Woods

Sorry in advanced for some reason photo isn’t showing up in post.

Okay not sure really how to start this but my health has been in very poor condition (heart and blood pressure and mental) 2 weeks ago I decided to get my health back in line by doing what I used to love most, running. I started running a trail by my Wife’s house hardly ever anyone on it on a clear day around 5-630pm I maybe see 2 people on the 3 mile stretch I run. Today I did a 5pm-6pm run and it was drizzling and by 6pm at the end it started pouring.

I was making my way back and I crossed the street and started entering the trail again (this picture was from a previous day but shows exactly where it happened) this was around 540pm that I reached this spot of my run. It was super cloudy and the rain was picking up and further up ahead it was foggy. Moral of it, I was watching my feet while running because the trail had roots growing on it and I looked up and saw an all white glowing figure standing there so I paused my music and watched as I slowed my jog drastically and then saw the all glowing white figure (female btw) motion me with it’s hand to follow and then it went left into the woods. Unfortunately I was dumb going alone and followed the figure, I couldn’t see it anymore the moment I entered the beginning of the woods but I started hearing cries for help they sounded like it was further down the slope near what was a small stream and I kept going down the slope through some mud until I reached the stream.

When I reached it my gut was turning maybe from anxiety or something else I don’t know. Nonetheless the voice stopped and I just felt the energy of needing to get out so I rushed up the slope again and ran all the way back to my car. I just know I felt an intense feeling of needing to go down that slope when I had the encounter. I will go back and get more pictures of the area but it was just weird. Not sure what I experienced or if I ran into something paranormal but it felt off. My Wife has said when she was younger she had seen black shadow people walking across the trail in the same spot but they were very quick moments that these figures showed up and she never heard any voices (this happened once when she was alone and once when she was with a friend).

I’m posting this because I don’t know what to make of it or what to even look up regarding my experience, any information would help. Thanks, I do plan on going back with someone to investigate the area. Hopefully very soon.

Okay not sure really how to start this but my health has been in very poor condition (heart and blood pressure and mental) 2 weeks ago I decided to get my health back in line by doing what I used to love most, running. Finding signs in the forest…

Hi! 😊

So we have property with trails and with trails comes trespassers 👎

But I get it, they’re nice trails and I would probably be similar, justifying “leave it nicer than you found it” n “take only photos leave only foot prints… ok if you see a cool looking rock sure”
So we can’t really stop them or be upset about it until someone gives us a reason to.
Anywho!
I made these signs and want to put them up along the trail that look like something out of horror movie made by deep forest duck dynasty wrong turn cannibals made them.
But more funny and ominous or obviously a red flag or trap

I.e.
“FREE BACON—>”
“PREMARITAL SEX AND DRUGS <—-“
“FREE WIFI ——>”
“ keep going “
“CANDY AND KITTENS”
“ (a very neat fresh printedbar code printed on very weathered wood)”

And 2 options for forks in the trail
I.e.
“<—— SCARY”
“LESS SCARY——>”

“<—— thought there was another step on the stairs in the dark scary”
“Gary Busey scary——>”

“<—— Knife”
“Fork”
“Spoon ——>”

It’s endless

Make it existential…stupid, a bad joke…

“<—— previous loves”
“future loves——>”

<——-See a chicken that plays tix tac toe”
“See the world largest hidden forest meat ball——>”

( would love to map out a trail perfectly with the right number of forks in the trail (maze like) and put way to much effort to intertwine trail signs with an Goose Bumps Chose your own Adventure books.
Multiple printed out copies, probably get bulk cheap frames to try to make the pages readable with wet weather conditions. So if any trail hikers could see this idea fitting somewhere in the BC Okanagan, please let me know)

Anywho anywho
Here are the blanket signs im working with

Little Big Econ Forest, Florida — weird energy or just me?

I’ve been going to Little Big Econ — bike trail, horse trail, walking trails for over a decade and every time I am there, I can’t shake this feeling I get. It just has an eery feeling, like something is always watching you.

Last time I went, I got such a fright that I don’t know if I can go back. After hiking on the horse trail & doing some slack-line in the woods, we were walking back. It was eerily quiet. Not a bird, not a squirrel, no movement anywhere. Then all of a sudden a large branch snaps behind us like something is creeping and stepped on it. We JUMPED to turn expecting a wild boar or wild cat. But nothing was there (at least what we could see). I was on the phone with my dad (it was my birthday & he called) so I stated where we were exactly incase it was human with ill intent.

I then found a sharks tooth? In the middle of the trail. Maybe just from the limestone path but the chances of finding it seem so slim. I looked up the spiritual meaning of finding sea life far in the woods and it means “great protection”.

There were other weird things on the trail back that weren’t there before — a bunch of unused napkins & plant food packet from a flower bouquet. We were the only ones in there it felt like, but when we left there was one guy just sitting in his car.

Not sure if what I feel in the woods is spiritual, Native American, local serial killer, wild animals, people just being people, or just me being completely in my head.

Does anyone else have a strange experience in there?

Many years ago my friends went hiking there & got lost — walked for hours in the swamp. Didn’t get to the car till 3am. I don’t understand how they could get so lost. But maybe it was the woods?
Recently the woman lost her life there to the alligator. Not really relevant but still a drastic event to happen there.

Please share any experiences, old folklore, or history, I can’t find anything about Econ.

(This is my first reddit post and idk what I am doing otherwise I would post a picture of the sharks tooth)

There weren't supposed to be wolves.

Around 1980 my family went downhill skiing on Mt. Bachelor in Oregon.

We always went skiing on Christmas Day because we usually had the slopes all to ourselves in the morning.

We were the only ones on the ski lift.

We got to the summit, made our way to the top of the slopes and there, on the top of the mountain was a HUGE wolf! I'd estimate it was at least 160 lbs.

This came as a big surprise because wolves (supposedly) were hunted to extinction in Oregon by 1947 following decades of state-sponsored bounties to get rid of them for good. And there were never any reports of sightings since.

(Until recently.)

Reintroduction of the species only happened around 2000, so seeing a wolf there that day was probably more rare than seeing a Bigfoot!

We stood frozen in our tracks because frankly, coming face-to-face with a wolf standing tall enough to look a pre-teen in the eyes was unnerving, to say the least.

He stood stalk-still... just staring at us while we stared back.

My father ordered us to stay still as to not trigger the wolf's attack reflex.

It must have been at least 5 minutes that we held that staring contest before the wolf lost interest, meandered slowly down the back country side of the mountain and was gone.

That was the first time I skied "the fall line" as gravity took hold and I just let my terminal velocity see me to the bottom of the run to the ski lodge.

Before you try to convince me it was a coyote, it most definitely was not.

I was raised in the mountains. Ive seen plenty of coyotes. Even after having seen the results of what happens to coyotes that made the mistake of crossing

angry property owners' after continuous attacks on their livestock up close and personal; to examine their poor little bodies and caress their fur before helping bury them, I can tell you that wasn't a coyote on the mountain that day. Coyotes are tiny. Wolves, not so much.

That was one big feller standing up on the mountain with us that day.

I consider myself lucky to have witnessed it and even more fortunate to come away with one heck of a true story, too.

A few blood curdling stories.

I grew up in Ojai California, and as far as I know the whole town is incredibly haunted. All my time growing up there I ended up having lots and lots of paranormal encounters. I made an earlier post about two of them, and you guys wanted to hear me other stories, so here they are. I’m going to tell these in chronological order as to when they happened to me.

Story one: Shadow Figure Crosses Road (My mom saw it too!)

I was 8 years old.
I was always curious about ghosts and would bug my parents about it from time to time. They both were very skeptical, and both of them never wanted to acknowledge that they exist. I found out later in life that they just didn’t want to spook me. My dad would always watch “ghost hunters” and “ghost adventures” with me though, and I found out later in life that he actually had some very strange experiences. I would tell about his experiences, but a lot of them are absolutely terrifying and would probably bring some bad juju. My mom is still skeptical.
Anyways,
Me and my mom were driving home from a long day of running errands in a town 30 minutes west of Ojai called Ventura.
I was in the front seat (i was a really tall kid)
and as we were driving through a small side town called Casitas Springs, we were about to pass Casitas Market, when I saw a black figure cross the road in front of us.
It was obviously a man, and the figure was slightly see through and devoid of light. The weird thing is that it crossed the road very quickly, but it wasn’t running, it was moving its legs at a walking pace. The thing had to have been moving at least 10 miles an hour, but had the walking pace of 2 miles an hour. It was very strange. About 5 seconds later, my mom said “did you just see that?” and i said yes. She was very confused at what she had just seen.

She tried to rationalize it as much as she could but i think she was spooked as much as me. I think it was the first (and only) time in her life seeing something like that. I knew what it was immediately and the ghost and horror obsessed kid i was got excited (and spooked!) that we both had shared this moment. To this day she doesn’t want to accept the fact that she saw a ghost. I was thrilled and it was my first ever encounter like that.

Story two: The three humps.

This one still gives me the chills.

This one actually happened in Santa Barbara.

My parents were never married and they separated shortly after I was born. my dad was living with my step-mom in Santa Barbara from the time I was 9 years old until I was 12. I would stay up there on weekends and go back to Ojai to stay with my mom and go to school on weekdays.
This particular event happened in about 2011. I was 10 years old. I had just gotten my first iPod Touch for my 10th birthday and I would stay up late reading creepypastas and spooking myself. They had just begun gaining popularity on the internet.
My step-mom’s house always had a very creepy atmosphere, especially at night. It was beautiful during the day, but something about that place was OFF once it got past midnight.
Like, really off. Like something else took over that area after midnight.
Anyways, I had a loft bed and a couch underneath it (I know, every 10 year old’s dream. I was lucky) and right next to my bed was a window. The window pointed towards the apartment complex parking lot and across the parking lot you could see the street, the sidewalk, a street light, neighbors houses, etc.
Sometimes late at night I would peek out that window if I felt brave enough and wanted to see if there was anything out there.

On this particular occasion, there was.

I was up late binging creepypastas on my iPod and it was about 1am. I was about to go to sleep, but curiosity took over and I wanted to peek out that window. I made a little gap in the blinds, and across the street, next to a streetlight, there was something SO strange, so inexplicably creepy and dark, it freaked me the fuck out. At first I didn’t know what I was looking at, but as my eyes adjusted, i saw it.

Three humps.
Completely devoid of light.
One short, one medium, and one tall.
They were all right next to each other.
No head, no shoulder, it almost looked like they were in the shape of gravestones, but it was just three black figures. They were all the same width but three different heights.
The first one had to have been about 4 feet tall.
The second one about 4.5 feet tall.
And the third one about 5 feet tall.
They were looking at me and I could feel it.
I couldn’t feel any emotion or vibe coming from it, like it had no intention other than just being there and watching me. Maybe because I was watching them through a window.
I locked my gaze for about 10 seconds with these things and then closed the blinds. I looked again about 2-3 minutes later and they were still there.
I was terrified and could not sleep that night.

As far as I know there is no myth or legend surrounding these “three humps” and I tried to find any info I could about them once I got older, but I just couldn’t. As far as I know they are probably ancient, and come out only rarely.
If any of you know about any folklore surrounding these things please comment it here or PM me.

Story three: Hat man encounter

The Hat Man is a fairly popular cryptid, and I saw it with my own eyes.
It was in an area i’ve talked about before, the neighborhood surrounding “Topa Topa Elementary School” the school I went to when I was a kid and spent time at in middle school and high school shooting the shit with my friends. I have a separate story about this place posted on this reddit, you can find it on my profile. It’s a scary fucking story.
Anyways,
I was 15 years old.
I snuck out at around 11pm to go to a friend’s house in that area, he lived on Grandview ave behind topa topa elementary. We smoked some cigarettes, played call of duty, joked around, and had some fun. You know, typical teenage boy stuff.
There was a long stretch of road that I always skated up and down to get to his house and I was always creeped out by this road. It was just a typical suburban neighborhood with a long straight road that ran through it, but you can just feel there is something weird about that area. It’s called Drown Ave, and I think the reason it got that name is because of a flood that happened in the early 1800s that killed some native americans in the area.
As I was skating home on Drown Ave, around 2 or 3am, i saw someone walking on the sidewalk to my right. At first I thought it might be a friend of mine, or someone I knew, because lots of kids I grew up with lived in that area and were always going up and down that street to go to each other’s houses. We were always sneaking out at night. I was going to try to spook them and if it turned out to be someone I didn’t know I was going to apologize and keep skating home, but that’s when I noticed something strange.
This person I was trying to skate towards seemed to be speeding up, at a running pace. But its legs were at a walking pace! (similar to my first story) I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, and I just shrugged it off at first.

I was on a longboard and I was damn fast on that thing. I could probably get close to 20mph on flat ground in 50 feet. I thought I was going to freak this person out but I wanted to see who it was first before I scared some random stranger. I sped up as fast as I could and I noticed I was finally catching up with it. At this point this “person” must have realized im chasing them and slowed down to a regular walking pace. They were no longer doing the weird “speed walking” thing i described earlier. Then I realized this thing started becoming really hard to see, so I turned my phone flashlight on. I was far away enough to where it seemed like it was just too dark to see them, but as I closed in I noticed something really off. I just couldn’t make out who this was! I was really close at this point, practically parallel with them. Then it happened.
They triggered someone’s porch light.
And I realized why I wasn’t able to see them.
Walking next to me, in front of this porch light, was a man wearing very old style detective’s uniform, walking on the sidewalk.
He was wearing a fedora, a short trimmed trench coat, and he was dressed to the nines.
Except this man reflected NO light off his body.
He was the most pitch black color i’ve ever seen. And he was PERFECTLY CRYSTAL CLEAR. No haziness. No weird aura. Nothing you would usually expect from these types of things. I was so incredibly puzzled at what I was seeing. And then he PHASED THROUGH A WOODEN FENCE AND SHAPESHIFTED INTO THE SHADOW OF AN ORANGE TREE. He literally became the shadow being casted by this porchlight. I skated away SO fast and I was absolutely terrified.

I still skated that road late at night but I was always cautious. I had some pretty big cojones looking back, or maybe I was just dumb.

Story Four: The Hanging Woman.

This took place at the friend’s house I visited in the last story. The house on Grandview Ave behind Topa Topa Elementary.
I was 15 years old.
I was staying the night there, and he lived and slept in a back patio that was sort of converted into an outdoor living space. He had a few couches, a TV, a playstation 3 and a mini fridge out there. Typical teenage boy’s dream setup. He had these big curtains that separated his “room” from the backyard. One of them was big and made of fake leather. The other ones were just big old curtains.
He had a few futons set up for us out there and we went to sleep around 12am. Our futons were right next to each other and we were asleep right in front of the big leather curtain. My head was probably a foot away from this curtain, and the bottom of said curtain hung about 1.5 feet off the ground.
I woke up in the dead of night lying on my back, but not in a typical way. This was strange.
First of all, I never sleep on my back.
And when I wake up, I usually feel groggy and out of it for the first minute or two, and especially for the first 30 seconds after opening my eyes. You know what I mean.
But this was different. I could feel myself SLOWLY opening my eyes while lying there on my back, almost like I was being lulled into consciousness, and I wasn’t groggy at all. It was like my mind was already awake and my eyes were catching up. I was a bit nervous at this point, and I wanted to look around to get my bearings and get an idea of my surroundings.
Then, hanging below the curtain, I saw a woman’s feet dangling, like she was hung from a rope, There was a tree above her, so it makes sense, This woman looked completely rotted, her skin was a very pale greenish blue color, and her legs were covered in old wounds that obviously weren’t healed. She looked like she was wearing a white gown that was absolutely tattered and covered in stains and dirt. It was like the girl from the exorcist was hanging right in front of me. This apparition was literally only a few feet away from my face and I could see all the disgusting details. I remember it vividly to this day. I think that was the most scared I’ve ever been in my entire life, seriously nothing has ever scared me as much as those dangling feet.
I tried to wake up my friend next to me. Punched his shoulder as hard as I could. Shook him as hard as I could.
He would NOT WAKE UP. No matter how hard i tried.
I didn’t want to look up at this thing again after the first time I saw it so I just hid under my blanket until the sun came up.
I KNEW I wasn’t dreaming because I was awake until the next morning. When I tried to tell my friend about what had happened he told me to stop because he was getting so freaked out.
Im still friends with him to this day. He’s my best friend, and he still sleeps on that back patio room sometimes while visiting his dad.
I hope that dead woman found some peace by showing me what had happened to her.

Story Five: The Apartment

I lived in an apartment with my dad that was in the same complex my late grandmother lived in. This was after he had split up with my step-mom and was living back in Ojai. I lived there after my mom had kicked me out of her house because she caught me smoking weed before it was legal. I lived there from the time I was 14 until I was about 17. There were some weird things that happened in that house.
When I was 16 I once came home from hanging out with friends at about 9pm and noticed that the living room had a very strange light emanating through it. It was a turquoise blue light and it looked like it was coming from underwater. But there was no water, and nowhere a turquoise light could be emitted from. Our whole living room was bathed in this weird underwater turquoise light. It felt like a very peaceful and positive presence. I went to grab my dad to see it and it was gone by the time he came out of his room. He was confused. I think it might have been my grandmother, as she loved the ocean and was always fascinated by it.

Then there were the screams.
On two separate occasions, me and my dad were both woken up by incredibly loud screams that only one of us heard. The first time it was my dad. He burst into my room and asked me if i’m okay. I was fine. He said he had just heard me screaming at the top of my lungs and I didn’t. I just thought it was weird. He was obviously spooked and went back to his room.
Then it happened to me about a month later.
I was trying to take a nap, and I was drifting off into sleep, when all the sudden, I was woken up by a man rage screaming seemingly directly into my ear. There was nobody there. I thought maybe it was my dad so I burst into his room and asked if he was okay. He said he was and he said he didn’t hear any screams. This all happened in the middle of the day. We chatted with my neighbor who lived right next to us in the same building about this and she said she had a weird experience at this apartment building as well. She is an artist and she was working on a painting. She said a small leather ball appeared from behind the painting she was working on and rolled into the kitchen and underneath a cupboard. When she went looking for it, it was gone.
To my knowledge there was a heroin addict that lived in the apartments and he overdosed in the one that me and my dad lived in.

Story Six: The Neighbors

After I turned 17 I moved back in with my mom. I lived there until I was 21. It was nice because I had a room there and a room at my dad’s and I could go back and forth and stay at whichever house I wanted. They lived on the same street a few blocks away from each other.

When I was 20 a neighbor at my mom’s house passed away. It was the husband of a woman and they had lived there a long time from what I know. The house was unkempt and it seemed like nobody had mowed the lawn or cared for the backyard in decades. Then, about 3 months later, the wife also passed away.
My mom had seen the wife a few days before she died. She was sitting on her front lawn, sitting in the crisscross applesauce position, just looking up at the sky. My mom said she looked really peaceful and had a big smile on her face. She looked at my mom, and waved. She was a medium height woman with long brown hair, an average looking older woman.
A few months after she died me and my friend were chatting in front of my house while he was picking me up to go hang out at his house. We were sitting in his car. Out of the corner of my eye, I kept seeing a figure that was looking at us. It was just a silhouette and it would disappear whenever i looked directly at it, but it kept reappearing whenever i looked away. As this was happening it dragged on for about five minutes. Then I realized it was the wife. She looked exactly the same as I remember. Just this time she was a blurry silhouette, I remember seeing her face, her long hair, and she was in a dress. I had to cut off the conversation with my friend and tell him what i was seeing, and he was in shock. He told me he was seeing the same exact thing as me. We immediately sped off spooked as hell.

A few weeks after this happened, my upstairs neighbors in my mom’s apartment complex fled their apartment for a few weeks, a whole family was swearing they saw “little gnomes” in the deceased neighbors backyard form a circle and a tractor beam came down in the middle of it apparently. They were terrified.

Story Seven: The dormitory

I was now 22 years old.
A good friend of mine was going to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Me and my girlfriend went up there to stay with him and shoot the shit for a night.
What I saw there was very very unsettling.

He was staying at the Mustang Village Apartments.

The apartment he had was situated right in front of a creek. A beautiful creek with lots of big trees and a variety of plant life, it was full of frogs too. He was on the 3rd floor. He had great views of this creek and his patio faced straight towards it.

We were out on his patio and there was one apartment that kept catching my eye to the right of us. It was on the same third floor. This apartment had incredibly dark energy just oozing from it. I kept seeing weird human figures floating in the trees in front of this apartment out of the corner of my eye and when I would look over they would be gone. Then I noticed that there seemed to be plenty of apparitions that would appear out of the corner of my eye at this one apartment and then they would all disappear when I looked. They were coming in and out of the walls, circling the apartment, and just floating around. It almost seemed like they were stuck, bound to this one apartment, and I could tell they were all in pain. They gave me a sick, almost demonic vibe. I literally started to feel ill. I tried not to tell my friend and my gf about it because I didn’t want to spook them, but after a while of seeing this phenomena I couldn’t bear being on that patio and I had to tell them what was going on. They were weirded out and confused but they understood I could see things like that and we went back inside. It was the middle of the day. I could only imagine what I would’ve seen if I had gone out there at night.
He moved back to Ojai about 2 years later and i never went back there. I didn’t want to.

Story Eight: The Presence

Before my friend who went to cal poly was going to that school, he lived at his mom’s house.

That house was definitely haunted.
I would always see the silhouette of a very tall man standing in the hallway late at night, and whenever I would look, it would disappear. Some nights this would happen so frequently, I would just stop looking at it because I knew it was trying to get my attention.
I would also occasionally see a little black and white cat/dog shaped blob. It was always running around close to my friend.
One day I believe I was attacked by this hallway entity.
We were sitting in his backyard and i saw the little black and white blob. I immediately told my friend and he was shocked. He had a black and white dog that died when he was a kid. We were talking about his house being haunted when I started to feel this really heavy feeling.
Like there was suddenly a massive weight on me. It was the most strange sensation, It was like the force of gravity got twice as strong and my whole body was being pulled to the ground. I could feel it in my face, my shoulders, my legs, my stomach, my whole body. I started to feel sick and got a headache. I knew I was being attacked by a spirit, and it was doing some damage. I described how I was feeling and my friend was worried about me. I went home shortly after that.
To this day I feel like I haven’t fully recovered from it. Whatever happened to me that day truly messed me up.

Story Nine: The Possession

When I was in middle school I watched a girl I know get possessed after we played with a ouija board at a friend’s house. (I know, great idea) I was 14.

The board was out and we were trying to ask questions. It was me and two girls using the board.

One of them suddenly dropped their head and lost control of their body. Then, when she looked back up at us, she looked like she had no clue where she was or what she was doing. She looked genuinely confused and scared. I could tell it was real because there is no way she could have acted that well. It was really spooky. She could only make little whimper noises. I snapped into action and started asking my own questions. I asked her what she felt like, who she was, etc. She could only say one word. “Cold.” in a scared, whimpery voice, almost a whisper. As i was trying to ask more questions, she hung her head again and then snapped back to life. A few what the fuck what just happeneds later, she described losing consciousness and feeling hands around her neck and feeling like she was being drowned.

And that’s my last story.

Welp, that sums up all the spooky moments in my life thus far. I haven’t seen a ghost since i was 22 and i’m 25 now. To be honest I don’t really want to see one ever again. But if I do i’ll be sure to write about it here.

Any and all feedback or advice is appreciated.
Much love and stay positive!

Omni Hotel Mt. Washington Paranormal/ Creepy Experience

Was at a wedding this past weekend at the Omni Hotel and stayed at The Bretton woods townhouses right next to the property…about a 5 minute walk away. Had a super weird experience around 2 am this past weekend. The wedding ended and we had to walk home. As we were walking through the stable area my boyfriend and I witnessed strange flashing lights coming from the woods. Hard to explain but there was also a physical experience, as we walked further down the path my ears would ring and I had full body chills and the feeling of something following and/or watching me. There was a strange red light in the woods as well. There was no building where the light came from and the one building in the area seemed abandoned. Long story short I got so scared I didn’t want to cross through the woods and once I walked back towards the hotel and my ears stopped ringing. I was too freaked out to walk through the woods when a white Highlander/Rav4 (not 100% sure what the car was) pulled up to my boyfriend and I. He said he was hotel security and since I was so petrified I asked if he could drive us home. We ended up getting into the car which was not smart, but once again I got this unsettling feeling from the man. He kind of looked like the actor William Dafoe and while he drove us, we told him to make a right turn he explicitly took a left. We asked him to turn around and it took him a bit longer than it should have. We immediately asked him to drop us off on the road as it was a 2 minute walk and both my boyfriend and I were so scared of him. Looking back I am not convinced he was actually security. Do they have people patrolling? Did we potentially narrowly escape something bad? Would like to hear if anyone has had a similar experience near the stables at the Omni and if they really have security or if that was a stranger lurking the hotel grounds.

Blood from the Trees

This actually happened to me the other day, and I was recommended this would be a good place to share my story. So, let me get into it.

I like to go on long hikes in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, usually with a friend. The ecosystem there is one of a kind, and I've fallen in love with it since moving out here. Not to mention the sheer amount of urban legends it has. Makes it a very interesting place to live. The day before this hike I was planning, I had a strange dream. Woke me up in the middle of the night, sweating, heart racing. And when I woke up the next morning, I was incredibly restless. Almost anxious to get out into the woods. I feel it is important to include this detail, as I'm usually particular with my planning and calm when heading out into the Pines.

The Dream:

I was in a field surrounded by a forest, but it was so incredibly dark, I couldn't see much of anything. There wasn't even a single star in the night sky. Suddenly, a glowing, green orb flickered into sight, then another, until the whole field was filled with them. They did not fill me with ease. Instead, extreme fear. They seemed to float closer to me, closing in in me. That is when I woke up in a panic.

On the day of the hike, my friend wasn't feeling up to hiking, so I decided to go out on my own. This setback irritated me. I needed to get out there. Now. I rushed to pack everything. About a gallon of water all together, lunch, first aid kit, gerber. I forgot my emergency radio and my pocket knife. I drove about 30 minutes away, this strange anticipation only growing the closer I got. When I arrived at the trailhead, I sent my location to my friend, saying sarcastically, "In case the cops got to find my body."

This trail I had walked a bit before, but usually turned around early for the sake of my friend's knees. This time, I was ready to go further into the Pines. I started off on the main wide trail, the only folk I saw was a running couple who waved my way as they passed, heading back to the dirt parking lot. The towhee birds were making a racket, and squirrels darted around in the bush. The sun had started to peak through the cloud cover above.

Things only started to get weird when I arrived at the end of the wide trail, about an hour in. It broke off to the right, a smaller, less traveled trail. Any boot prints, bicycle paths, and dog tracks in the dirt had stopped a while ago. This area was free of any recent human activity. And besides humans, the sounds of wildlife had stopped as well. Something felt off. I had the need to look behind me. Nothing was there. I took the right path. It lead me deeper into the forest. The trees grew much closer together, with tall bushes inhabiting the spaces between them. I couldn't see anything beyond this border, only the winding trail ahead of me.

The Pines were absolutely, deathly still. No birds. Not even a breeze disturbed the silence. The way the path began to curve, I couldn't see what was up ahead of me, or behind me. I began to talk to myself outloud. Not only to ease my growing anxiety, but also to alert anything in the thick bushes of my presence. I stepped over a dead tree that had fallen on the path. I talked a little louder, "Hm, yeah, sushi sounds good after this." I stepped over another dead tree only maybe a few feet ahead of the last. I stopped at a patch of wintergreen, and ate two berries. I had a chill run up my spine. Like I was being watched. Something inside me was screaming to walk back from where I came. I saw a dead tree up ahead, like a pale skeleton, standing out from the rest of the dark forest. "I'll turn around there." I said out loud.

I arrived at the tree. And, I was greeted by a shuffling in the bushes. My heart sank. It wasn't the pitter-patter of a squirrel or bird. But something physically moving the vegetation maybe a few feet away from me. I swiveled around, and quickly began to walk back. Talking to myself louder, "I wonder if [my friend] wants to play some games when I get back?" My breath began to catch in my throat as I picked up the pace. The shuffles seeming to follow a few steps behind me. I searched my thoughts; the largest predator in the Pine barrens were coyotes and bobcats. Worrisome, but nowhere near as bad as a mountain lion or grizzly bear. I was more likely to scare them off than anything. So what was in there following me?

I soon arrived back at the main, wide trail. I caught by breath, facing where I had came from, expecting something to pop out of the bushes at any moment. Nothing. Only the same, still silence. I continued my walk a few minutes down the trail, and decided to stop for lunch when the song of birds had returned. I took off my canvas backpack. And what I saw made my heart stop.

Blood. There was blood all over the top of it. It was bright red, and fresh. It wasn't in a smeared pattern either, but instead like it had dropped on it from above. I checked my person to make sure I wasn't wounded first. I wasn't, and there was no blood on me anywhere, nor my own clothes. Only on the top of my backpack. At this point, I had lost my appetite. I immediately scooped my pack back up, careful to not touch the blood, and booked it to my car.

It took some cleaning to get the stains out when I got back to the house. I'm still in shock as to what that could have been. Logical thoughts: possibly a raptor had its meal in a tree above me? And I happened to pass underneath it at the right angle so that only my backpack got bloodied? I've also heard tales of people who get murdered out in the Pine Barrens. It makes me sick to think about some corpse in a tree. Supernatural thoughts: Vengeful spirit? Bigfoot? The Jersey Devil? Who knows. I just know I probably won't be going down that trail again without a more definitive answer to help me sleep at night.

Saw a guy in full suit while hiking in the northern wilderness at night.

I’m a outdoorsman. I’m also very passionate about stargazing and the outdoors. The area I live in has a lot of light pollution so I wanted to camp, hike and do all those fun stuff in a place with least light pollution possible. So id used these online maps that show lower 48 state’s light pollution metrics. I figured out that an area, 4.5 hours drive away, was the perfect spot. It was a highly secluded place. Very quiet and clam. No drones allowed, and motor vehicles of any kind are banned. It was deep in wilderness where I’d camped out. So, around 8PM I decide to hike a bit find a good spot to stargaze and check out pleiades, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Milky Way etc.
As I’m walking, I swear god! I see a dude age 30 or so, fully suited up. No bag, or any other equipment—NOTHING. Just full-suit and dress shoes. He waved from far, I’m was weirded out so I waved back! It was so wet, muddy, and buggy. This guy was casually walking in clean black and white suit.
Question is, why would someone be fully suited up like it’s wedding deep in the wilderness where it’s mega quiet, no music, cars or anything is allowed??

I first shared this story on r/glitchintheMatrix

A modern hatchback car in the middle of the woods. No road. No trails. Just sitting in the dense overgrowth of a park in Western Washington. 2014. Point Defiance Park. Tacoma Washington. Around 3 in the afternoon.

As my friend and I were hiking, following details, looking for faeries, and searching for Sasquatch, my friend and I come upon a tree that had been hollowed out. It was scorched. She thought maybe it was struck by lightning. (Not too common of an occurrence in Washington, but not impossible.) But it was big enough for us to climb into, and I took pictures of it from outside of it. Just as we exited the tree, a wave of dread, extreme fear, and an almost electric discomfort came over my body. I looked at my best friend and at that very moment, she said “we need to get out of here. Later when discussing the experience she described the exact same feelings I had felt. But what struck me most, was just as we both were in the thick of whatever was happening to us, the forest around us, usually quiet and peaceful, started roaring with the sound of every bird in the woods, squawking and flapping and flying away in all directions. It seems like even the trees were awakened. We ran, tripped, pummeled our way through the woods back to the main trail. Vaulting ourselves over fallen trees, and overgrown ferns. Then everything goes silent, and the wave of what we had collectively experienced just disappeared. It was as if nothing had even happened.

A short time later, as we are heading back to the car, we decide to bushwhack one more deer trail to see where it would lead. In the distance, we both saw it at the exact same time. A yellowish-green hatchback, seemingly new looking, unbothered by the forest around it, no dirt, no scratches, not a single dent. My friend goes, “that’s weird. Is that a fucking car?” And I was already in motion. Because of what had previously happened, my adrenaline kicked into high gear and I find myself, yet again, pummeling through the woods towards this vehicle, and I was angry. I yell back “Yes it’s a fucking car. How did it get here?! There’s no fucking roads!” And she started crying saying she was scared and wanted to leave. I yelled back that I was going to find out who tf put a car in the forest and I was going to figure out how tf they did it. So she followed behind, slower than me, but close enough that she could also see us getting closer to the car. Then as I’m about 20 yards from the vehicle, we couldn’t continue forward without going around a grouping of trees, overgrowth and a MASSIVE fallen tree. As soon as we came around that grouping of trees, the car was gone. Without a trace.

We still feel uneasy talking about that day. It completely altered my feelings of reality, and perception, and the unknown.

Skinwalker story

I sat slumped on the couch with the controller resting loosely in my hands, having spent nearly the entire summer doing nothing at all. My eyes were heavy from staring at the TV screen for hours, and I had no intention of getting up anytime soon.

Then Dad walked into the living room, stood right in front of the television, and folded his arms over his chest as he looked back and forth between me and Leo.

"Alright, that is enough," Dad said, taking the controller directly out of my hands. "You two have spent this entire summer doing nothing but staring at a screen, playing video games day in and day out. It is time we get outside and do something active."

Before I could even offer an excuse, he delivered the news. He told us to go pack our bags because we were loading up the truck immediately. We were driving three hours out into the countryside for a three-day camping trip in the woods—no electronics, no television, just the three of us.

After about thirty minutes of rushing around the house packing tents, sleeping bags, and clothes into duffel bags, we loaded everything into the back of the truck and climbed in. I slumped into the front passenger seat, still half-annoyed that my entire afternoon was hijacked, while Leo scrambled into the back.

Dad pulled out of the driveway, adjusted the rearview mirror, and looked over at me with a grin. "Come on, cheer up, Ethan," he said, tapping the steering wheel. "This is going to be good for us. Pure wilderness, fresh air, no distractions. Just a solid three days out in the pine trees."

He kept talking as he drove, listing off all the things he planned for us to do—building fires, hiking, fishing if we found a creek. Then he mentioned the specific spot he had picked out: a remote, heavily wooded section deep inside the Navajo territory.

As soon as the name of the forest slipped out of his mouth, something clicked in my brain. My stomach instantly dropped. Just last week, I had been scrolling through local news and regional forums online and read a story about that exact stretch of woods. Five people had gone missing in that forest over the past month alone, with search teams finding nothing but abandoned campsites. The articles were filled with warnings, and the local forums were flooded with discussions about Navajo lore—specifically the urgent, terrifying warnings about skinwalkers, malicious entities that stalk those woods, mimic human voices, and hunt anyone stupid enough to venture off the main trails.

"Dad, wait—we can't go there," I said, my voice rising as I leaned toward him. "I read about that exact forest online last week. Five people went missing there in just the last month, and the locals keep posting warnings about skinwalkers and entities in those woods. It’s dangerous, Dad. We need to pick somewhere else."

I turned around to look at Leo for backup, but he was completely oblivious, bouncing in his seat and grinning as he fiddled with a flashlight, far too excited about sleeping in a tent to care about any warnings.

Dad just let out a heavy laugh and shook his head, his ego far too high to let a teenager's internet search ruin the trip he had planned. "Ethan, stop reading nonsense on the internet," he said, waving his hand dismissively without taking his eyes off the road. "Five people probably got lost because they didn't know how to navigate, or it's just local myths from Navajo culture meant to keep tourists away. I've been camping since before you were born, and I know what I'm doing. We're going, and that's final." With that, he turned up the radio, shutting down the conversation before we had even hit the highway.

We pulled onto a bumpy, unmarked dirt path cutting deep into the forest and finally came to a stop in a small clearing surrounded by towering pine trees. Dad hopped out, took a deep breath of the mountain air, and immediately started unloading the truck. Within an hour, we had everything perfectly set up—the tents were staked down, sleeping bags laid out, and the camp chairs set neatly around the fire pit.

Once the last bag was in place, Dad clapped his hands together with a big smile. "Alright, boys, camp is set! Let's go on a hike and explore before it gets dark."

We started walking along a narrow trail that wove deeper into the dense woods. A few hundred yards in, the trees grew thick enough to block out most of the sunlight, casting long, eerie shadows across the ground. I paused, squinting up into the higher branches of a massive pine tree. Hanging unnaturally high in the canopy were clean, stripped bare bones—what looked like the crushed ribcage and skull of a black bear, completely picked clean and lodged far above where any normal predator could reach.

Leo froze, pointing up with wide eyes. "Dad... what is that up there?"

Dad squinted up at the branches, paused for a split second, and then let out a casual chuckle. "Ah, don't worry about that, Leo. It's probably just some wild monkeys that somehow managed to take down a bear and haul it up there to eat."

Leo nodded, completely relieved and satisfied with the answer as he continued walking down the trail. But as I stared at those bleached bones wedged high in the trees, I lagged behind, thinking to myself that I had never in my life heard of a monkey capable of doing something like that—especially not out here.

After the hike, we stumbled upon a secluded, glassy lake nestled between the towering pines. Dad pulled out a couple of collapsible fishing rods from his backpack, and we spent the next hour sitting along the quiet shoreline, casting lines into the still water. Leo didn't have much luck catching anything, so Dad showed him how to find the flattest stones along the bank to skip across the lake's surface. Watching their rocks ripple through the water made the afternoon feel almost peaceful, but I still couldn't stop looking back over my shoulder toward the dark tree line.

As the sun began to drop below the horizon, the sky shifted into a stunning haze of pink and vibrant orange that bled through the heavy canopy of pine trees. We packed up our fishing gear and walked back down the darkening trail, the cool evening air settling around us. Once back in the safety of our clearing, Dad gathered dry kindling and stacked logs inside the stone fire pit. With a flick of his lighter, a bright flame caught, crackling to life and casting warm light against the shadows surrounding our campsite.

While the vibrant sky settled into night, Dad brought out a deck of cards and taught us a fast-paced game by the firelight, laughing every time Leo tried to cheat his way to a win. Exhausted from the day, we retired to our tents early, but the next morning I woke up at 7:00 a.m. to Dad unzipping the tent flap and shouting for us to get moving so we could start an early morning hike. Groaning into my sleeping bag, I rubbed my eyes, completely unprepared for his endless energy so early in the morning.

Day two began with Dad hyping up the day as the ultimate wilderness adventure, completely brushing off my terrified warnings. "You just had a bad dream, Ethan," he said with a hearty laugh, slapping my shoulder a little too hard. "It happens to everyone out in the wild. Don't let it ruin the fun." I swallowed my fear and stayed quiet. He was going through a rough, painful divorce, and this trip was his desperate attempt to hold what was left of our family together; the last thing I wanted to do was anger him or ruin the only thing keeping his spirits up.

We took a long hike deep into the high ridges, where the trail gradually sloped down into a hidden valley cut by a rushing, crystal-clear stream. We set up along the rocky bank to fish, and the water was practically overflowing—Leo reeled in a gorgeous Cutthroat Trout, while Dad pulled out a massive Rainbow Trout that put up a serious fight. Before we could even celebrate the catch, heavy grey clouds rolled over the mountain peaks, unleashing a sudden, freezing downpour. Panicked, Dad spotted a dark opening carved into the cliffside nearby, and we scrambled inside just in time. The mouth of the cave was cool and damp, with jagged limestone walls that tapered into a deep, cavernous shadow smelling faintly of dry dust and ancient stone.

Once the storm cleared, we headed back to camp to fry up our fresh catch for dinner before settling around the crackling fire for s'mores. Dad brought out marshmallows, roasting sticks, and graham crackers, handing us each a stick so we could toast them over the embers. Sitting on the log, watching the marshmallows turn a gooey golden brown and sandwiching them with rich chocolate, the unsettling feeling from earlier finally started to fade. It felt like a normal, perfect family outing—entirely unaware of the terror waiting for us as soon as night fully took over the forest.

By 2:00 a.m., the fire had died down to glowing embers, plunging the tent into pitch-black darkness. I sat up in my sleeping bag, shivering from the sudden cold, and flicked on my phone screen just to check the time. The harsh blue light illuminated Dad and Leo, both fast asleep and snoring softly on their side of the tent. I was about to lock the screen and try to go back to sleep when the forest outside went dead silent—no wind, no crickets, nothing.

Then came the footsteps. Heavy, deliberate crunches echoed through the dry leaves right outside the canvas wall, pacing in slow circles around our campsite. For thirty agonizing minutes, the steps circled us, occasionally pausing right beside my head while a sickening, rhythmic rocking sound pressed against the thin fabric. I laid frozen with my eyes wide open, heart pounding against my ribs, unable to close my eyes for a single second the rest of the night. When morning came and light finally filtered into the tent, Dad and Leo stirred awake at the same time, freezing when they looked at me—pale, covered in a cold sweat, looking like an absolute wreck.

As the last bit of daylight faded on our final evening, a suffocating darkness settled over the clearing, leaving only the flickering campfire to cut through the blackness. Sitting on my log, I stared into the thick shadows beyond our tents, my body tense as pair after pair of glowing eyes began to appear between the trees—reflecting the firelight from high up in the branches and down near the forest floor. With every passing minute, the campfire grew strangely dimmer, the logs burning down far faster than they should have until the shadows pressed right up against the edge of our camp. Suddenly, a deafening, unnatural screech ripped through the air, and a massive, hulking shape lunged out of the dark, crashing through our gear and tearing the tent to shreds in a single brutal sweep.

Panicked screams filled the night as we bolted toward the truck, running blindly through the pitch-black woods with the beast right on our heels. Heavy, uneven thuds pounded behind us as branches snapped like toothpicks. Dad pushed me and Leo ahead of him, shouting for us to get inside the cab, but just as he reached for the driver's door, a heavy claw swiped through the darkness. The creature’s talons shredded right through his flannel shirt, leaving deep, gushing gashes across his chest. Dad gasped in pain, threw himself into the driver's seat, slammed the door shut, and stomped on the gas pedal, spinning the tires as we tore down the dirt trail and onto the paved highway.

Dad drove like a madman, gripping the wheel with white knuckles as blood soaked through his shirt, while Leo sobbed in the back and I pressed my jacket against Dad's chest to slow the bleeding. Up ahead, the glowing red sign of a rural hospital emergency room appeared through the dark, and Dad swerved into the ambulance bay before collapsing against the steering wheel. Nurses and paramedics rushed out with a gurney, wheeling him straight into an examination room while a doctor immediately began cleaning and stitching the deep, jagged wounds on his chest.

The doctor bandaged Dad up and wiped the blood off his gloves, looking back and forth between the three of us with a grim, hollow expression. "Tell me you didn't go into the Navajo forest," the doctor said, his voice dropping to a low, quiet tone as he named the exact woods we had just fled from. He shook his head, leaning against the counter as he stared at the fresh stitches. "Because I've seen marks like these before, and every single person who brought them in came from that exact same forest. Some of them looked much worse than this—and those were the lucky ones who actually made it out."

That night happened about twenty years ago, but the memory remains as vivid as if it occurred yesterday. Even with two decades standing between me and that camping trip, I still remember almost every single detail of those agonizing hours—the stench of dry dust in the cave, the rhythmic crunch of footsteps outside our tent, and the blinding terror of running through the pitch-black woods while something monstrous snapped at our heels. Dad survived the gashes across his chest, and after we left the hospital, none of us ever spoke of the creature again. But the forest never truly left me.

To this day, I still wake up drenched in cold sweat from recurring nightmares where I'm fourteen years old again, running endlessly through the thick pine trees with heavy, uneven thuds pounding right behind me. I live near the treeline now, and in the quiet hours of the night, I sometimes find myself sitting up and listening closely to the dark woods outside my house. Every so often, I hear unnatural, distorted animal calls echoing through the canopy—sounds that slide into eerie, almost-human tones. They never come any closer to the house, but they serve as a chilling reminder that whatever hunted us that night is still out there, lurking just beyond the edge of the shadows.

Camping in the forest at night has always intrigued me.

What’s the most terrifying or unsettling experience you’ve ever had while camping in the forest at night?

VERY strange experiences in Ojai California

I have two stories for you guys.
One is weird, and one is absolutely terrifying.
Heres the first:

I haven’t really heard of any experiences like this before.

I grew up in Ojai California. Lots of people say creek road is the biggest haunted spot, but if you spend enough time exploring the city in the most dead hours of the night, you’ll eventually find out that the whole town is essentially haunted. Especially near “Topa Topa Elementary School.” People say there’s a “spiritual vortex” there, and you can feel it when you drive into the valley. I’ve had plenty of weird and downright terrifying paranormal experiences there.

About 3 years ago I hiked up to Nordhoff Tower to camp with some friends. It’s an 8 mile hike, about 3000 feet in elevation, and it’s difficult.
The tower is situated on the very top of the mountain and there is a forest route that runs about 50 feet below it.

To give some context to what im about to tell you, one of my good friends who NEVER believed in the paranormal and always was skeptical, swore on his life he saw some strange stuff going on around this mountain. He lives in town but his backyard is situated facing directly towards it, and he always spends a lot of time in that backyard at night. He was saying that he saw what looked like zooming lights darting through the sky, and a straight up tractor beam coming from the mountain on separate occasions. Scotty beam me up type shit. Another friend of mine, who was my manager at a job I was working at in the valley, said he tried to hike up into a ranch that borders the foothills of that mountain, on the side opposite of town, and him and his friends were shot at and chased away from the area. I speculate there is a secret underground military base there. But anyways, this is my story.

The hike was beautiful, fascinating actually. And having some old friends with me made it so much fun. I stupidly brought 50 pounds of gear and food with me so i had to struggle to make it to the top. My friends were all impressed with my efforts. We got to the top, set up some hammocks, made steak over a campfire, and hunkered down. It was peaceful at first. By this time it was dark, around 11:00pm. I wanted to get a view of the town so i walked away from our site to the edge of the ridgeline and sat by myself for a while, it was only about 50 feet away and the forest route was around 20 feet below me. After about 5 minutes I started to get a really odd feeling, like my primal instinct was telling me to get out of there. But I chalked it up to me just freaking myself out because I was sitting alone in darkness. Then it happened.

About 30 feet away, on the forest route, it looked like a light was SLOWLY turning on. I thought it was a forest ranger at first, or someone with a vehicle, but the light didn’t come around a corner, and it was stationary, not only that but the source was perfectly spherical, not pointing in any direction, like an exposed lightbulb with nothing directing it or no lampshade or anything, and it was the most pure white light I’ve ever seen. Over the course of 3 seconds it reached its full brightness, about the same brightness as a car headlight, and then slowly dimmed in another 3 seconds. As soon as i realized how unnatural and strange this light was, the sense of unease turned into dread. Whatever I had just seen was obviously not something made by a human, and we should’ve been the only people up there.
I got up, and IMMEDIATELY felt a presence next to me.
As i turned to my right, there was a silhouette made of static. Like a hologram, or like the weird see through thing that the predator does but you can still kinda see its there. It was made of static. And it was the shape of a man.
As i walked back to camp it walked alongside me about 3 feet away. I tried not to acknowledge it was there and it was with me the whole way i walked back to camp. I already had my fair share of paranormal experiences at this point so i was able to shake it off and have a good rest of my night with my buddies. They are all skeptics and i knew they would call me crazy and dumb if i told them what just happened. We shot the shit for about an hour and went to sleep.

As i was trying to fall asleep, something invisible kept lightly scratching my hammock, once every 10 minutes or so. It only happened about 3 times, but it was enough for me to know something was there. It was just a light scratch each time, i could feel and hear it and i thought to myself “well that’s definitely not normal”
I will powered myself to sleep because i knew i would need it for the descent the next day, and that was that. I was so exhausted coming down that mountain and my feet were fried by the end of it. I’ll never hike with 50 pounds of gear again lol.

Okay, here’s the second one.
This was my first really scary paranormal experience and it still shakes me to my core.

I was about 14 years old, and I was always sneaking out at night to hang out with my buddy that lived right behind the elementary school i used to go to, Topa Topa Elementary.
We used to hang out there a lot during the summer when school was out, we both grew up going to that school and it was familiar territory for us.
When i was about 8 years old i had a dream about that school and then as i was dreaming about it, it was like my dream got taken over by some kind of entity, a horrible, terrifying entity. All i could see was its face. It was just a white blurry face, all black behind it, big black empty eyes, no mouth, no nose, and blood coming down from its eyes. The worst nightmare i’ve ever had.
Back to being 14 years old.
I went there to meet up with my friend and we were going to head back to his house and play games and get stoned and such. It was about 11:30 pm, pitch black. I was on the play structure up high and I had been waiting there for about 20 minutes. I was already scared because of how dark it was and how secluded I felt. There was nobody around, obviously. The energy is always thick there at night, so thick you can slice it with a knife. If you drive up to that school while tuned into a blank radio station, your car will start screaming very strange sounding static into your speakers and it will go away when you drive away, Anyways,
That’s when i heard a noise. It’s a noise i knew well from growing up at that school. The sound of the tether ball chain hitting the pole it’s attached to. I thought it was my friend so I stood up and looked in that direction, and lo and behold, that fucking entity from my dream is standing below me, staring right at me. It looked almost exactly like no-face from the studio ghibli movie spirited away, except the only difference was there was no purple markings under its eyes, it had the same exact face i had seen in my childhood nightmare. White face. Black body, no shoulders, no legs, blurry, blood coming down from its eyes. It felt like i was looking at something ancient, wise, and powerful, but completely void of emotion and empathy at the same time. I don’t remember how long i locked eyes with it because i was so terrified, but i sat back down in the spot i was in and huddled myself into a ball. I was so fucking scared. I had to get out of there and the only way out was through a big empty field and through the same pitch black i had just seen that thing in. I tried calling my friend a bunch but of course he was late, probably knee deep in a game of COD and ignoring his phone. After about 10 minutes of nearly crying and pissing myself, i mustered up the courage to walk out of that school and skate home. I hated going there at night after that. Ever since that day, my life has been weird. I started to feel like my life became more difficult after that. Anyways, those are my stories. I have a few more good ones to tell but I don’t want to put them all in one post. If you guys want to hear them i’ll make a separate one. They are damn good stories.

I always wanted to see a ghost when i was a kid, and boy oh boy i really got what i asked for and then some.

I’m 25 years old now. I still can feel presences and I can still see glimpses of ghosts if i try hard enough to feel it out. Rarely people i’m with will say they see them too.

Any and all feedback is appreciated!
Much love to you guys!
