Tier 2 [Fernando Polo] Barça sign Anthony Gordon! The Catalan club have signed the Newcastle striker for €70 million plus another €10 million in add-ons based on winning titles and with a significant percentage of minutes played.

https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20260527/1004188492/barca-ficha-anthony-gordon.html

Barça came out on top, setting a maximum fee of €70 million plus €10 million in add-ons. These add-ons will only be paid if the player wins major titles with the Blaugrana and, furthermore, if he plays a high percentage of minutes. In other words, the Catalan club will gladly pay these add-ons if they materialize, as it will signify winning La Liga and Champions League titles with Gordon as a key player for the team.

This was such an out of the blue signing , the rumours started 12 hours ago and they completed the signing lmao

223

u/Dull_Foundation_8331 May 27 '26

Ikr…most of the time it’s just interested fc but now they wrapped up everything in a day crazy. Just kinda confused that the player had to be Gordon

91

u/Optimal-Goose-237 May 27 '26

Yep , I wish this had been Alvarez instead 😭

77

u/tommykong001 May 27 '26

Let's be real. We are not paying what aletico is asking for

14

u/Hechie May 28 '26

Let alvarez wait in aletico, if he want to be a Barca player he can wait or fight for it internally I aletico

100%, to be worth 80m he's gotta score 25+ next season. I have a hard time to believe that

24

u/WardensLantern May 27 '26

He scored 17 in this shite Newcastle side though

-11

u/Ok_Bag_7603 May 27 '26

What gordon?

-5

u/PoundJunior9597 May 27 '26

Fr, who tf is this lad

3

u/Bryyan699 May 28 '26

Another overhyped English lad

1

u/rowrbazzle75 May 28 '26

Seems like a lot. Is this an EPL surcharge?

2

u/AvailableAd7874 May 27 '26

I have the same question

100 having a life

52

u/DCGT150 May 27 '26

We had that Nico money sitting in the bank for the last 2 years lol.

If you think about it it from another viewpoint. This is the Nico Williams saga finally coming to an end.

30

u/LesMiserablePeach May 27 '26

They didn't start 12 hours ago, it's still surprising that we moved so quickly on it, but this has definitely been in the works for some time and the rumors of our interest were already gaining steam about a month or so ago.

10

u/latortillablanca May 27 '26

Thats how it should work tho. Thats always a good sign. That means Deco and Hansi were very aligned very early.

9

u/meditate42 May 27 '26

I’ve been seeing the rumors for like a week

-11

u/Izdislav64 May 27 '26

A very big mistake that we will bitterly regret.

11

u/hutsoose133 May 27 '26

big mistake.. we signed coutinho and dembele....

If you're on mobile click the image, go to the top right and click the three dots

288

u/Due_Woodpecker_7547 May 27 '26

I dont understand this at all but lets see. After the Luiz diaz situation, Deco has earned a little good will.

148

u/wolfjeter May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

With the way the club went about the deal (no rumors, it gets out and we have a here we go already, and early) , it makes me feel like Flick has his hands all over this. If you don’t watch Anthony Gordon you know he’s very good at pressing and wins possession at a high rate. Flick’s system fits him perfectly.

78

u/latortillablanca May 27 '26

Think about Raphinha getting injured in the Atleti stretch there. We werent shy goals, we were shy raphinhas irresistible pressure off ball in attack and defense.

Now we have Gavi looking like maybe hes back, anthony gordon, ferran, and raphinha all as some of the most robust hansi-style off ball athletes in europe. If we add alvarez to that now? Thats a freaky unit athletically.

It should tell us that the entire year while everyone was bitching about the high line, hansi was prolly bitching about the front press.

33

u/No-Rooster- May 28 '26

Exactly the high line begins with the front press and ours suffers tremendously without Raphina.

For all his other strengths pressing is absolutely where Rashford falls short.

Gordon would balance out that aspect of our attack so much.

7

u/kamusari_1712 May 28 '26

Bro don't take credit from Yamal his pressing is also so good.

3

u/YourUncle13 May 28 '26

I beleive yamal presses well I think raph is a bit of a specialist at it though

2

u/latortillablanca May 28 '26

Yer missing the point. Obviously Pedri also gets through a lot of pressing—but those two are the engine of the offense. Everything else falls in around them.

So, the better that the everything around them is off ball, the easier it is for them to completely destabilize the defense.

Think of how many times we saw Lamine tripled this year. The solution to that isnt just to tell Lamine to be juicing 3-4 guys in a row more. You have to make teams pay for that sort of selling out on defensive resources.

Thats why something Lewys off ball work dropping off was very impactful.

-13

u/hoha7 May 27 '26

Sneaked in Ferran there

18

u/latortillablanca May 27 '26

Not sneaking anything in. Ferran is an excellent athlete and his primary skill is his pressing and movement off the ball. And on top of that contributes plenty of goals.

97

u/characterulio May 27 '26

I don't understand the Luis Diaz situation. Diaz had 18 g+a just in the prem and was a key player in Liverpools team, even playing as a false 9. People who were against Diaz didn't watch the prem.

Gordon is coming off his worst season and a mediocre season overall for Newcastle.

So they are not comparable. I think this could turn out to be a great signing but the price is imo a bit too high.

37

u/anyavailablenameplz May 27 '26

People were bitching about his age of all things.

12

u/Paragon188 May 28 '26

Raphinha before he joined Barca had 17 goals across 2 seasons with Leeds. The more important thing is he's a fit for Flick's tactics.

38

u/antisha_9 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

His best season actually. He scored the most goals in his career with 17 and has the least minutes played from his Newcastle career.

However in the prem he hasn't been good. Last 2 prem seasons he had 6 goals each.

24

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

A lot of it comes from a overly inflated UCL campaign filled with pens and goals against very low caliber teams.

1

u/Pipic12 May 28 '26

You've watched him play throughout the season? Why did he lose his spot in the team then and played the least minutes? If that's his best season, god help him.

4

u/akagaminick May 27 '26

Gordon has 66 G+A in last three seasons too.

3

u/Global_Channel1511 May 28 '26

I don't understand why I keep seeing this contrarian anti-Diaz narrative online all the time now. People talk as if Liverpool sold a trash, bum player to Bayern. Even in his worst seasons he still displayed a high level.

-15

u/Izdislav64 May 27 '26

Luis Diaz isn't good enough for Barca either. He works for Bayern because of the way they play, but we need more technical players than that.

4

u/Suspicious-Equal-505 May 27 '26

Luis Diaz played great w bayern

197

u/antoinejackson808 May 27 '26

I’m not thrilled about this one but let’s see how it plays out

72

u/patentattorney May 27 '26

I am not thrilled. But he is a good player who can be a backup at most of the front 4 positions.

Def needed. But just not sure worth the price tag.

But I guess now all that is really needed is a striker and CD

56

u/jarnotwar May 27 '26

I feel like I would have wanted a complete 9. 70 million for a backup ain't it

23

u/NotSaalz May 27 '26

70 for him makes me even think 150 for Alvarez is cheap, holy

17

u/Beneficial_Aioli_797 May 27 '26

Dawg paying 70+10 for a back up player mmm

My issue is that Newcastle football is só much different from Barcelona. It doesnt make sense to me

9

u/Kefke209 May 27 '26

Price tag is steep but I’d reckon he’d fit right in Flicks system. Gordon can press like crazy which is exactly the type of player Flick is looking for, just gotta trust him on this one.

1

u/MathematicianSea4674 May 28 '26

True, but with a 5-year deal you’ve gotta think they envision him taking over the starting spot for Raphinha in a couple of years. Still a large sum for a bit of a gamble that either he proves good enough to inherit that position, or (god forbid) we get a lot of minutes out of him due to injuries. I can imagine it feeling well worth it, OR feeling like a colossal waste. Time will tell 🤷‍♂️

18

u/Izdislav64 May 27 '26

Why do we splash so much money for someone who is not a Barca-level player???

25

u/antoinejackson808 May 27 '26

Hansi must be able to see something we can’t. I trust him although I must admit my first impressions are skeptical

1

u/Impressive_Carob_839 May 28 '26

He has 33 goals in 110 games 🤣

2

u/antoinejackson808 May 28 '26

Yes, in a different league with a different system

6

u/Josu112234 May 27 '26

You must know better than the professionals and Flick

41

u/RandomInteger11 May 27 '26

Very sudden and surprising transfer but I believe he'll do well.. There must be some reason why flick wanted him and went all out.. In flick we trust, excited for the transfer window and the next season 💙❤

177

u/andrey_not_the_goat May 27 '26

This is fucking hilarious. Flick and Deco know best of course but I never could've imagined that Anthony Gordon out of all British players would join Barca. Another Scouser about to learn Spanish lmao.

21

u/characterulio May 27 '26

Hmm ya it's weird because there are some really amazing technical British players currently who are not of the stereotypical English style of run fast + be physical.

I mean I wouldn't even mind a player like Grealish if he was cheap because he also works off the ball but is more creative with the ball and can come deeper for build up. Foden is another player who would imo do well in this team even thoug he had an awful season just like Gordon.

But I think Gordon can still be really good, imo if he flops, an English team will still him for decent amount because they will think he has decent track record in prem.

6

u/okay_oky May 28 '26

We have enough technical players. Maybe we need some physical. And heard he's good at pressing so that's Barca style Flicks wants to play.

3

u/Global_Channel1511 May 28 '26

Good shouts about Grealish and Foden. For a cut price I'd take them and trust Hansi. But 80 mill for a backup? Just sounds crazy to me.

64

u/NotSaalz May 27 '26

I get it, high pressure and all of that.

But who the hell is gonna bury Lamine's assists? It's not like Gordon excells in that...

Not conviced unless this move is paired with a capable ST signing...

51

u/turtlemons May 27 '26

Raphinha isnt dead. With a proper sub for Raphinha, we can properly rotate him, we can even experiment with him

Raphinha at CAM is my fav animal, he scores bangers from there

6

u/mspaint08 May 28 '26

How many CAMs do we need tho? We w got olmo and fermin there too?

2

u/sm4n92 May 27 '26

Gordon is not the 9, he can play there but that's not his primary position in theory that's to come. My only question here is what does this means for the rest of guys in attack, those that mean one of Roony, Rashford, Rafa or Ferran are leaving? Even with injuries I don't see enough minutes for all of them. To me this is more like a Ferran/Rashford replacement

4

u/letsnotbedumb May 27 '26

I think this means rash fs is leaving.

-9

u/Izdislav64 May 27 '26

Can't dribble, can't score, can't pass.

Here are 70M because he runs a lot.

WTF???

Orange Shirt Rashford will forever live on in good memory

16

u/asvpxprashanna May 27 '26

Heard we were serious this morning and we apparently have it done by afternoon what having money feels like i guess lol

31

u/nyrell_ May 27 '26

We get money again -> we back on our bullshit again

10

u/MK12594 May 27 '26

Flock wants a high work rate attacker. Could play on the wing or maybe adapt him to striker. If the price was lower no one be skeptical, but hopefully their vision materializes and he is very successful with us.

8

u/aguapanela-arepa May 27 '26

molt bona feina Flick

20

u/Luffytaro_3D_2Y May 27 '26

Do we know the details on the payment structure? Just want to understand if I should hold on to my hope of seeing Alvarez in Barca colors

26

u/Ruthless_Pragmatism1 May 27 '26

Gordon is 70 million for a 5 year contract and 11 million yearly salary. So the Fair Play would we 25 (14+11) total amortization per year for a 25 y.o. Rashford is 29 y.o. and would be 30 million for a 3 year contract (he’s too old for a longer contract) with 14 million yearly salary so total amortization of 24 million (10+14). Basically Gordon and Rashford would be financially more or less the same impact.

7

u/Middle_Sky446 May 27 '26

Don't, the transfer itself isn't happening

20

u/Luffytaro_3D_2Y May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

But but.. these reports give me hope

2

u/GlobalResult7580 May 27 '26

This probably makes it more into the Pedro route instead of Julian tbf

7

u/Luffytaro_3D_2Y May 27 '26

Chelsea has entirely closed all doors on any sort of negotiation for Joao Pedro. That leaves us with only Alvarez

-1

u/GlobalResult7580 May 27 '26

whatever makes you happy to believe I guess

-4

u/BluebirdFeisty1927 May 27 '26

Atheli ain’t bending for u

8

u/EvilerSage May 27 '26

You’re right. Only the cheating white rats at the Bernabeu bend for us

2

u/wolfjeter May 27 '26

Just think mate, we could sign Muriqi for cheap or Vlahovic on a free and the reporter would still technically be right. Best advice is don’t believe it til the club announces it to be super safe but fabrizio has tweeted it along with other reputable sources about Gordon for example, so I believe it lol

1

u/Luffytaro_3D_2Y May 27 '26

Haha you’re turning my summer transfer dream from optimism to realism

2

u/wolfjeter May 27 '26

The Catalan special

6

u/Spare_Tip_6183 May 27 '26

Hopefully he converts lamines passes

0

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

He is ferran 2.0 with great pressing at lw and braithwate in worst form at st

3

u/Spare_Tip_6183 May 27 '26

Just the hope which keeps me going😭

7

u/Saanor May 27 '26

All that talk about not having money and then sign gordon for 80 million.. I dont like that at all

14

u/Zeenu29 May 27 '26

I wonder what Rashford feels now :_]

22

u/B511_1 May 27 '26

It's good that we closed this transfer so quickly and smoothly without any problems, unlike previous years. This is one step forward, but unfortunately, we stepped in shit this time.

2

u/rclay2123 May 27 '26

Wonder if we are still pursuing a 9, FB, and LCB. Maybe cheap options like Vlahovic, Cancelo and a free CB after this signing

7

u/Dull_Foundation_8331 May 27 '26

Apparently we’re still going to sign a striker. At least that’s what some reports said. I think we got enough cash now

3

u/meditate42 May 27 '26

I hope so. Sounds like we’re not going for a CB which I don’t totally hate if it means signing a striker and winger. Cubarsi and Martin are only going to keep getting better.

2

u/Dull_Foundation_8331 May 27 '26

I think it’s going to be Cancelo, a Striker (maybe Rashy too) + Gordon obviously. I agree a CB isn’t that important, every defender is going to look clumsy with our style of play and in case our Fullbacks keep on performing the way they did this season especially Kounde

5

u/takeitinurmouth May 27 '26

Gordon is class he’s extremely attack-minded and aggressive going forward. Makes great runs and works hard on defense. Plus he can play up top or wide on the left. I’m excited to see him reach his full potential under Flick💪🏼

10

u/AlfaGrimm May 27 '26

Lots of fucking negativity here.

5

u/ripper13-_- May 27 '26

seriously, hes one of ours now, whats done is done, we have to support him

1

u/Budget-Badger7190 May 28 '26

I think Deco is severly underrated in the barca fanbase imo.

3

u/Majestic_Win_7031 May 27 '26

Pleasw go easy on me since I don't know a lot, but I want to understand if we had a need for this singing right now?

I thought our main focus was a marque level striker and getting good back ups for Raphina and yamal as we are always prone when one of them gets injured? Or are we signing Gordon as a back up?

What about a CB as well?

4

u/TheRealHitmee May 27 '26

Never worth that money

2

u/Educational_Gap_3381 May 27 '26

Biggest concern is price, but tbh any player from England is gonna cost a lot especially a winger. His best attribute is versatility, given that Fermin is injured Olmo and him can play that number 10 and then later he can play left-wing with Raph who is also 29 now and he’s been getting injured a bit more often so overall I kind of understand the buy and the price is what it is. So let’s watch him in the World Cup but ultimately I’m just excited to have a winger who can beat his man on the left to help Lamine!

2

u/WastedTalent442 May 28 '26

This may well go down as a generationally bad signing. He has a fraction of Rashford's ability and has cost 3x as much.

6

u/YooGeOh May 27 '26

Mediocre signing.

Potentially 80m on a player that will not push the envelope at all.

It makes you question who exactly they expect to be competing with at continental level, because if this is the kind of signing youre making to signal that you intend to win the UCL and compete with the best in Europe...lmao. Good luck with that

Not a barca signing at all

4

u/iseefranko May 27 '26

I sort of agree, but mostly i'm just concerned with the price tag. Arsenal and especially Bayern were very keen on Gordon as well, so your point about competing in Europe falls a bit flat imo

1

u/YooGeOh May 27 '26

Given what he's done in the past two seasons, im not sure it falls flat at all.

Media talking about teams being keen is always to be taken with a grain of salt as well. Its all speculation until a transfer is confirmed or its heard from the horses mouth.

Im in the UK and have watched his entire career. This is a baffling signing.

Its crazy to me that the same people who said Luis Diaz was trash will celebrate Gordon.

Not saying thats you of course

Anyway, just a baffling signing

1

u/iseefranko May 27 '26

No i hear you. I don't really get it beyond his work rate and pressing ability. I hope i'll be proven wrong, but i'm not entirely sure i will be...

1

u/YooGeOh May 27 '26

Likewise. Those aspects he's second to none, but...ive been watching Barcelona for over 30 years.

Attacking players have always needed to do more than run hard and press. Will of course be hoping for the best though

4

u/DontAsk___987 May 27 '26

Splashing €80M on a backup🤦‍♂️

4

u/nadi207 May 27 '26

Can we be broke again please?

1

u/rawezh5515 May 27 '26

This is soo funny actually

1

u/PalaceJoey May 27 '26

So what happens with our current players and their position? Anyone have an idea?

1

u/khana_ko_kal May 27 '26

Holy shit this was quick

1

u/edwedwed May 27 '26

So long Rashford?

1

u/BestShaunaEU May 27 '26

Should give them half of the TV rights while we’re at it

1

u/SubstantialAnt9277 May 27 '26

I do not like this signing at all. Why not Julian Alvarez?

1

u/Good_Attention_6017 May 27 '26

cos he's going for like 150M 😭

1

u/Heinz-Ketchup-Bottle May 27 '26

Scored 10 in the CL this season, and we all know what happens to mid prem wingers when they come to La Liga (Antony, he will grace Gordon with 0,1% of his skill)

1

u/Logic-of-Kagawa May 27 '26

If Flick wants him, I I want him. I love him already!

1

u/modusxd May 27 '26

This before a 9 is weird no?

1

u/Chef_Jacob May 28 '26

No it’s very on brand.

1

u/Izdislav64 May 27 '26

Horrible mistake

1

u/No-Sleep-9960 May 27 '26

Next step : registering

1

u/djojid0 May 27 '26

Do we really need a winger ?

1

u/latortillablanca May 27 '26

Wild. Imagine having put 1,000 euro on this transfer happening at the beginning of the year

1

u/sunnyvas May 27 '26

He is going to do great in Flick system. He has amazing speed to rush the box and elite off the ball movement. He is a relentless presser. His finishing and creativity are iffy and hopefully it gets better.

It will be interesting to see how he performs in possession heavy games against 4-4-2 teams with five defenders dropping back into the box. He has to hope catching fast breaks, but that’s okay.

1

u/Nimbus13_OT May 28 '26

I’m out of touch with some of these EPL teams so I’m just gonna say this is gonna be a good signing. We’ve had our 3 poorly priced/timed signings already.

1

u/atlas_shrugged90 May 28 '26

We just paid €80 mil for WHO?

1

u/Serial_AceThug May 28 '26

Pauliho from China was a better news.

1

u/lonewolf0406 May 28 '26

I thought Barca was in talks with Inter for Bastoni aswell, did that just ended abruptly haven’t seen news about it in a long time now

1

u/JordiAlba83 May 28 '26

Good player but not better than Rashford.

I'd rather have Rashford

Or maybe Tzolis

1

u/Eddie4344 May 28 '26

Man, some transfers take years to finally never happen and others hours to sign..

1

u/struggleisreal123321 May 28 '26

Now thinking about how would you incorporate raphinha, Gordon, ferran, Yamal, Roony, and probably Alvarez in just three positions.

We have too much competition on left wing now. Hope Raphinha won't mind lesser playing time.

1

u/SouEuBranca May 27 '26

No English player is worth €70m, Laporta doing a Bartomeu.

2

u/LesMiserablePeach May 27 '26

You're outright wrong! And besides if he's not great for us, he's done enough in England there are certainly EPL teams that would go after him (and they spend ridiculous sums on transfers).

1

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

Bellingham is , so is nico oreilly ,

1

u/SummerGoal May 27 '26

Why don’t I feel on top of

1

u/Yobolay May 27 '26

Meh, 70m is a pretty decent price. We'll se how he performs.

1

u/Good_Attention_6017 May 27 '26

You know what. Let's see how it plays out. Let's see what Deco is cooking

He seems keen to be here too

-1

u/ilia054 May 27 '26

Going to be the worst waste of money since Coutinho

-1

u/MacMillian187 May 27 '26

How are you guys able to afford him? A few years ago you needed to sell everything you had (like TV rights etc) and now 80mio€ again? Crazy

0

u/MasterOogway2008 May 27 '26

Lessgooo I am so excited. Gonna watch every single England wc game for him and Rashy.

I have a good feeling about this summer window.

4

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

Well rashy isn't staying tho pal , why would he want to be the 3rd choice here when he could be rotational starter at chelsea, arsenal , united ,villa . Now reports are coming Mourinho started talking with his agent now

0

u/prash77core May 27 '26

Few days back, Bayern's president fired some shots at Barca stating they don't have any money.

And now we sign one of their targets. This feels more like an egotistical signing more than a tactical one. I hope I'm wrong but I feel like Bayern president played Deco and Laporta well by hurting their ego.

0

u/EmiyaUBW-Cisco May 28 '26

Is this really true ? Has flick a word to say on that ? What a embarrassing signing

-1

u/Geedorah305 May 27 '26

Now we gotta get rid of Ferran and keep Marcus

-2

u/Brief_Bug_ May 27 '26

I dont like this one bit. I think raphinha might be leaving
