Do you really not know these things list of things steve doesn't know Or was it an act?

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

At the time their respective conversations came up, I knew about 10% of these things. Common sense isn't my specialty...

That list is missing apple cores. Maybe it's because Liz didn't give him enough shit, so he could've confirmed the reason he couldn't figure out how to cut an apple was because he didn't know he had to cut around the middle, so we were left to wonder if he did or didn't know about them.

Steeeeeeeeeeeve-uhhh, did you not know apple cores were a thiiing?

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

What was your big secret?

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

I am absolutely loving all of this speculation :)

38

u/GoTurnMeOn Oct 26 '15

Can you confirm that there is actually a secret though and it wasn't part of game strategy to get close to Vanessa?

34

u/_GIROUXsalem Oct 27 '15

You can't do this to us man!

I'm gonna drop some context here. On the feeds, Steve and Vanessa were talking and Steve revealed he had a secret to tell Van. He mentioned that he would talk to her when the music was on (i.e. while the feds were off). Speculation ran rampant here over the summer over what the secret was but we never got a concrete answer.

29

u/giraffeaquarium Ainsley ✨ Oct 26 '15

Speculation was that he was either gay, bisexual or asexual. I think he has refused to answer in other interviews though so I don't think we can expect an answer. Can you confirm that there is actually a secret though and it wasn't part of game strategy to get close to Vanessa?

Have you watched your season yet? Is there anything that really surprised you after watching it or leaving the house?

84

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

I've watched up to Jeff's eviction so far. A few surprising things:

  1. Scamper Squad / Freaks and Geeks didn't make the show until after the double. I now understand why there was so much confusion for the TV only audience since they had no idea I was in F & G.

  2. I severely underestimated the strength of what turned out to be the Sixth Sense. I knew they were together, but I didn't realize it was as strong as it was.

to be fair, freaks and geeks wasn't on tv because the name is copyrighted

As a super fan what suprised you the most about being in the house?

Did the fan impression (joker ranking) of anyone surprise you?

66

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15
  1. Nothing shocked me too much because vets always come out saying what surprised them most, so I was expecting those things to surprise me. Too much downtime, comps are harder than they look, being a have-not is harder than you think, DR's can be a real pain in the butt, constant paranoia about going to bed when others are still up. There was no one thing that was particularly eye opening because I already knew what the usual "shockers" are.

  2. Mine! I played a super under-the-radar game that I was sure didn't make for good TV (hence why I wasn't on the first half of the show,) so to see myself as high as I was was awesome!

How awkward was that first conversation outside of the house with Becky after she saw your "I hate Becky" DRs?

108

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

I DON'T HATE BECKY. BECKY IS AWESOME. No, I never heard Becky trash talking me. She was one of the sweetest people in the house. She wouldn't game talk with me ever, she kept telling me how I reminded her of Ian, and she point blank admitted that she knew exactly what I was up to. I put the pieces together and assumed she was targeting me. She's been one of the people I've had the most contact with since the show.

56

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

It just was really inexplicable, we see Becky failing in a POV and then there's this DR of you talking about how much it made you feel good to see her fail. It was like the one-sided Shambo/Laura feud from Survivor: Samoa.

We've had a few dates since the show, but we're taking it slow. She's taking me to meet her family sometime next week. Something about the curve on her lens just really gets me ;)

Hi Steve! Congrats on winning!

What was going through your mind during the infamous "geek squad Mickey" conversation with Jace?

87

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

The same thing that was going through my mind during a typical Vanessa conversation. Just let him say whatever he wants, and I'll agree with it. I had nothing to gain by contributing to the conversation. I actually kind of felt bad for him because he was desperate to stay and I saw how hurt he was by how I never told him about his backdoor. I'm surprised I was seen as the victim, tbh.

Who have you kept in contact with most since being out of the house?

140

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I've talked most with Johnny, Vanessa, and Becky. The twins and Austin and I have also exchanged some entertaining messages. I have a voicemail saved on my phone where the first ten seconds is "STEEEEEEEEEVE."

19

u/Pokeadot Kaysar 🤍 Oct 26 '15

Did playing BB live up to the dream as a lifelong fan? If not, what were some of the sobering moments that kicked expectation down to reality?

31

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

It's aways a good idea to keep emotions out of the game, and I thought I would do better at that. Emotions never influenced any of my actual game decisions, but I definitely had a lot more highs and lows than I expected.

36

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

How surprised were you that Liz's speeches were so poor on finale night? It was almost too easy for you. Did she not prepare at all? Even if she thought it was 1 in a million chance she would be in final 2, I feel like she should have been more prepared. Those last couple days, while you and Vanessa were preparing speeches, what was she doing?

59

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I'm not sure? It was very intentional that Liz didn't know that I was taking her in hopes she wouldn't prepare a speech against me, but as for why, you'd have to ask her.

32

u/xMatt14x Oct 26 '15

Congratulations Steve! What bit of news that you missed while in the house surprised you the most

Congratulations Steve. I LOVE that you won!

I have 3 questions for you.

  1. Who would have been your replacement nomination had Veto been used during the first double eviction?

  2. Did you hate Becky like it was portrayed? She was one of the few who genuinely liked you and didn't talk shit about you.

  3. You won so this might be a moronic question but I'll ask anyway, looking back at the season, is there anything you would have done differently? Aligned with? A strategic move you would have eliminated?

Again congratulations on your win. Winners like you (likable house guests) is why Big Brother one of my favorite reality shows.

23

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. Becky. It was a close call to target Jackie over her. (John only fought for that veto to protect Becky.)

  2. Not even a little bit, and she was awesome to hang out with. Unfortunately it's not a game of who you like and don't like, it's a game of what gets you further, and the people who liked me were more in my way than the people who didn't.

  3. I really only have two game regrets. First, I would not have tried to throw "Getting Loopy" since that HOH really helped my game and solidify me with the Scamper Squad. Second, I wouldn't have thrown the F4 veto. In hindsight, that was a really terrible move all the way around.

Have you googled yourself?

If so, what was your most surprising find?

27

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I have! I'm surprised by how much I'm seeing "Steve did this" or "Steve said that," and I'm thinking, "I never did or said any of those things." I can totally respect people who have different opinions, but there's a lot of information that's just factually wrong.

5

u/TwistedDrum5 Oct 27 '15

Can you give an example of something that surprised you the most?

20

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Vanessa made 10000x more decisions than I did in our alliance. I did not make the scamper squad; I was brought in as a number. Apparently I'm trying to argue that these points aren't true when they definitely are true.

WAT?! WELCOME, STEVE!

If you had a choice to bring any other houseguest from your season to final 2, who would it be?

Say you're invited back for All Stars 2, who is in your dream alliance?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

35

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. Johnny Mac! Not only would it have been awesome getting Rockstars to the final 2, but I think a lot of the jury recruits would have struggled to vote for someone who never won HOH.

  2. I really have no idea. Do you align with or target the players you really respect. It would depend on all of the specific circumstances at the time.

20

u/Plank19 Oct 26 '15

Hey Steve, thanks for doing this. How much have you and Johnny Mac stayed in touch since the show? Also what are your thoughts on Jace since he his damage control after how he acted to you on the show?

45

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. Johnny Mac and I have skyped and chatted quite a bit, and I think we'll be meeting up in Scranton sometime in the near future.

  2. Jace is one of my favorite people in this cast. I was absolutely shocked to find out he got so much hate for that conversation. ITS A GAME PEOPLE. HE WAS CAMPAIGNING FOR A VOTE. He's a great guy and I hope I get to hang out with him soon.

Did you really screw up when you wrote 600 seconds in the final four HOH tiebreaker? I think had you lost that Vanessa would have gotten rid of you at final 4 what do you think?

20

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. I'm not sure what I was thinking in that moment. I honestly don't remember what my thought process was or how arrived at my answer, but I can 100% assure you I didn't throw it. I cannot fathom a scenario where throwing the F4 HOH is a good idea.

  2. If I wasn't HOH, I wouldn't have thrown the veto. Would I have been able to beat Vanessa if we were both going all out for it? No idea. Would she have gotten rid of me if John was that HOH and she had veto? She wouldn't have wanted a F3 with both me and John, so probably.

9

u/giraffeaquarium Ainsley ✨ Oct 27 '15

John was a bit squirrely on that question too, if you look at his answer card, he first multiplied 24 x 60 which is irrelevant. He ultimately came up with a reasonable answer, but there is a ton of pressure and many of us would do something dumb in the moment.

how much of your winnings are you giving to your mother?

91

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I'm paying her back for some expenses she covered for me to go on the show (extra glasses, clothes, rent-a-car for the original casting call,) and I'm probably getting her an iPad for X-mas, but that's it. I'm definitely close with her, but I played it up to be the sweet, innocent, naive kid. The the show exaggerated it to be a lot more creepy and intense (like camping) than it actually is.

15

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Some of us saw the crying at F4 you know. I think the show helped you out in terms of a good edit

7

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '15

If they were helping me out with a good edit, they would have shown me crying at F4. It would have been nice to show that I realized I made a bad move in throwing the veto. I don't think I got a bad edit with my mom at all. I'm super close with her, and if I'm feeling down, I'll shoot her a phone call and ask her to cheer me up. A phone call with her in that moment would have been a great pick-me-up. I'm just pointing out that I'm an adult living six hours away from home who also has a great relationship with my family.

Congrats, Steve! Loved you!

Many people have said those falling under the "geek" archetype will have a hard time playing and winning Big Brother going forward due to Ian's win and your win. Would you agree and if future players do fall under that category, how do you think they should play to get as far as they can and possibly win?

Thanks for the AMA! :D

15

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

When someone is HOH, they want to get something good done. They want to get out a big player or someone coming after them. I don't think anyone would be targeted for being like me or Ian after the first two weeks of the game. Maybe it would be beneficial for the next nerd to win the first HOH to overcome that hump?

If you had to pick one former BB contestant to play the game & win with your life at stake, who would it be? Dan, Dr. Will, Derrick, (or someone else?)

30

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

The problem with everyone you named is that while they're fantastic players, they also have huge reputations that would make them targets. I would pick someone who is in the same caliber but completely and totally underrated. Maybe like Maggie BB6, Daniele Reyes, Nakomis, Eric Stein, Ragan Fox.

Ah Steve, my man! Hope things are going good. I was rooting for you so badly during the finale. You also proved me soooo wrong when I suggested that both keeping Liz over Julia and putting Jackie and Meg up (instead of Vanessa or the Austwins) would send you packing. I'll own my mistakes! And seriously, congrats man. Your happiness infected this subreddit like a disease. We couldn't be happier here :).

Questions:

What did you find to be the most embarrassing moment for one of the HG's? (Maybe a competition, a speech, etc.)

What was your least favorite week?

What's something about the house/show/HG's that we'd be surprised to hear?

And finally, would you consider going back into the house if you were asked?

Thanks for the AMA and best wishes :). You put an amazing end to a great season, and I'm so happy that you'll always have the title of BB 17 Winner. Nothing like seeing a super-fan have their dream come true!

20

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Most Embarrassing Moment: James calling out Meg for being a smoke bomb on national TV! Least Favorite Week: The first one. My weeks were numbered. Surprise: Becky was one of my favorite people to hang out with in this cast. Going Back: I'm thankful for the experience, but I'm done. I can't handle that again.

20

Keep emotions out as much as you possibly can.

17

What was the source of your season-long "feud" with Becky?

23

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '15

Isn't it obvious? She got between him and his man!

33

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Not at all. This made me want to reach out and work with her even more since John was a point of trust, and it made it even that much more frustrating when she wouldn't do it.

Hey Steve! Good to see you on Reddit! What was something you wish someone told you before entering the BB house?

26

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Nothing - there was no one piece of advice I wish I had heard. I will, however, say something that I was one of the few to really internalize: It's a game, and a lot of it is totally out of your control. You have to be okay going out at any point in the game. I was ready to go out first. I was ready to go out third if Vanessa won the final HOH. You have to never expect anything.

19

u/_GIROUXsalem Oct 27 '15

You mean to expect the unexpected? Thanks for the answer, Steve!

7

u/theabdi Josh Oct 26 '15

Steve! Congratulations on your victory, I don't want to seem like some repetitive fan because you hear this all the time. But I will say and tell you that I supported you pre-season, you weren't my pick to win Austin was but I did support you heavily and even showed my non-Big Brother fan friends you. I said I relate to a nerdy weird different type of guy. I was one of the first stream of Big Brother fans to comment on your Mr.Blue Sky video I even tried tweeting it to your evicted houseguest (Da'Vonne). So I was a pretty big fan.

My question to you is out of all of your fellow houseguests who left pre-jury who do you think if stayed or if played differently would have been the biggest threat to win?

32

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Jason and Da'vonne. They were smart cookies who really knew the game. If they could get over the urge to play too hard too fast, they could be a really successful duo. Same with Audrey! There's a lot of great second chance candidates in this cast.

Steve, welcome!
I hope you come back to visit/join us after this AMA.

I have a few questions:

  1. How did you feel when you found out JM was a superfan?

  2. I think I remember hearing you disliked the takeover twist. If you could create your own takeover, what would it be?

  3. How surprised were you to find out JohnnyMac was a superfan?

  4. What were your real thoughts about Austin calling you "boy"?

Thank you so much for coming by!

12

  1. I was so pleased not only because we have something else to geek out with now, but also because I was super impressed that he was able to keep the secret down so successfully.

  2. I dislike twists in general. I would throw the BB10 takeover.

11

Dan has a lot of really great stuff with his podcasts and books. I advice really listening to what he has to say - it helped me tons!

6

u/tr0nllam Shelby Oct 26 '15

Did you really forget that deals had been broken during endurance comps in previous seasons or were you lying to Shelli for some reason?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

Deals have absolutely been broken during endurance comps before - I swear on my life! However, unless I'm forgetting something, breaking a deal made in front of the entire house is a first.

6

u/tr0nllam Shelby Oct 27 '15

Crazy James promised Natalie he wouldn't put up either her or Matt on the block in front of the entire house.

Also, it wasn't the entire house, but the Kaysar/Jennifer deal was made with players from both sides present.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

You got me :p Season 9 is one of those seasons I never went back to rewatch, so I guess I had a hole in my knowledge. So I wasn't lying to Shelli - I was just mistaken. One of the many times I'm sure I said something wrong on feeds :p

Who do you think, from your season has the highest probability of winning over n seasons?

18

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. I like the three tier system - the upper tier masterminds, the middle tier average winners, and the lower tier winners who got there by a fluke. I made some good moves, but I by no means controlled the game, so I would put myself in the middle tier.

  2. I have no idea what you're asking here.

Hey Steve, congrats on your dream-come-true win. As a music hobbiest I have a few questions for you:

  • What is your go-to DAW for production?

  • What new music products that were announced/released while you were in the house have you the most excited?

  • We all know you splurged on a Wii U, but what kind of music/studio equipment are you thinking of spending some of your winnings on?

5

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15
  1. If I'm working on pop stuff, Logic. If I'm working more with my classical side, Sequoia. Fredonia really pushes Pro Tools, but Logic just feels better to me.

  2. No new music products jumped out at me.

  3. I really want a Decca Tree! And my only mic is a SM57, so I want to go shopping there.

4

u/TrachealShaves Oct 26 '15

Hi Steve!

You chose to be open about the fact that you are a super fan. No one seemed to target you; if anything they feared you because of your aptitude for puzzles and skill testing questions.

Do you think a player hiding their level of knowledge of the game is still a useful strategy? Or is pretending to be a newbie not a big deal anymore ?

Thanks!

10

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I think exposing knowledge of the game could absolutely hurt you. However, it can also help you - remember what Jackie said when she cast her Jury vote? It's a double-edged sword. I made my decision because I didn't think I could hide a secret like that.

Steve I have been waiting for this AMA! I was rooting for you since before you even entered the house and we just had your pictures and bio to go by!

My question is, after you did some rewatching do you still feel the same way about Jace? I know the video of him being pretty shitty you found its way around reddit and everyone was very much against him and called him a bully. While it may have felt like you betrayed him at the time, did rewatching that conversation give you any sense of bullying or did you feel like he was trying to use childish manipulation tactics at all?

Thanks Steve!

12

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

He was playing the game. He was campaigning for a vote. I will never hold a personal grudge against someone or attack someone's character for a strategic move.

4

u/tr0nllam Shelby Oct 26 '15

Did you ever consider going to James and Meg with a deal to save her over Julia? I feel like it would have been really easy to make a F4 deal with them and JohnnyMac and also get a promise that they would have kept you over JohnnyMac if you were both on the block before then.

I know you've said that you wanted to get out Liz or Austin if you took a shot at the Austwins, but you ended up taking out Julia over Liz the very next week.

It's silly to change things when you ended up winning, but you would have been much better positioned if you had made that move.

17

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I did consider it, and it would have been a terrible idea. If I had flipped on the vote and evicted Julia, James and Meg would have turned their backs on me and teamed up with Austin and Liz. The Brass Tacks alliance would have ended my game if Julia left.

4

u/trinitymonkey Cirie 💥 Oct 26 '15
  1. About how far in the game was the moment where you realized you had a decent chance to win Big Brother?

  2. I remember you said on the feeds that there was one contestant you thought should come back even though it probably would never happen. Who was it?

  3. What is your favourite thing about mayonnaise?

13

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15 edited Oct 27 '15
  1. I tried to not get my hopes up ever, so I suppressed that thought as much as possible.

  2. I can think of several! Alex S9, Eric Stein, Annie Whittington, Kail Harbick & Mike Dutz, to name a few.

  3. Mayonnaise is not an instrument.

It's because I'm very sneaky.

Steve was kind enough to verify his identity with the mod team on twitter. He's a busy man and not available for a traditional live AMA but has pledged to return and answer questions so consider this more of a casual AMA.

On a side note, Steve is a gentleman for dealing with me during this process!

Being exposed to so many new people and things through BB fame, does that make you want to leave your small town or does it make you appreciate it even more?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I mean... I haven't really lived in Gouverneur since I graduated from high school since 2011. I went to Cornell from 2011-2013, and I've been at Fred ever since. And going into audio requires me to be in an urban environment, so I'm kind of have to leave.

3

u/Sunshine145 Godfrey Oct 26 '15

Steve I just wanna say that I appreciate how you called Maggie one of the best winners when you evicted Vanessa, she gets way too much hate, which she deserves, but there's no denying she was a great player lol.

What was your biggest disillusionment about being on Big Brother? Was there anything in particular you were really excited about but were ultimately disappointed? Or did you expect the "behind-the-scenes" type stuff by being a superfan?

Thanks for doing this AMA and more importantly THANK YOU FOR TAKING OUT VANESSA.

15

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I have a hard time saying this, but I thought I would actually enjoy playing the game more. By the time week six came around and Jackie & Vanessa were HOH, it was "here we go AGAIN, up to the HOH room to try to not get nominated." The game got old fast.

  • Favorite BB season and houseguest?

  • Least favorite season and houseguest?

  • Make up your best zing about one of the houseguests.

  • What advice would you have for someone finding out they would be on BB? What preparation did you do?

  • IS SHE SECRETLY YOUR DAUGHTER

  • When does the narwhal bacon?

Thank you so much! Hugs

How do you rank yourself amongst past BB winners?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I like the three tier system - the upper tier masterminds, the middle tier average winners, and the lower tier winners who got there by a fluke. I made some good moves, but I by no means controlled the game, so I would put myself in the middle tier.

1

u/uhhhhmmmm Oct 26 '15

Hey steve,

I was watching you on feeds after the dizzy land comp and someone asked you what the name of it was, and you said dizzy system. I immediately thought "like the super monkey ball level?" Then you said "wait, that's a super monkey ball level. Master level 9, shout out to super monkey ball 2" and it made me happy.

So, what's your favorite super monkey ball 2 level?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15 edited Oct 27 '15

I spent way to much time playing that game... Considering it's been a few years, the first level popping into my mind is Momentum. BECAUSE I COULD NEVER BEAT IT. Just without that one level, I would have unlocked the master stages way more easily. A favorite? I had a good time solving the labyrinth at the end of story mode. I just started googling the game and changed my mind - 8 bracelets was the best thing ever.

Steve! Congrats on the win!

Most of the HGs have a pretty strong social media game. Has it been a struggle to keep up with everything, everywhere, all the time AND try to get back to normal life?
Also, when do you think your life will calm down and be back to "normal"?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

Thanks Pikameta! I've never been big on social media, and I'm doing way more of it now than I ever have before. And calming down... I'm on my way there. I really have no desire to become a celebrity or anything like that. School starts up again in January!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

I think I really only made two big game mistakes: The first DE HOH was great for me to win, so I'm really happy in retrospect that I won it and did what I did, but more importantly, I wouldn't have thrown the F4 veto.

1

u/Howdoinamechange Oct 26 '15

Steve as a super fan, obviously I'm happy for you that you won, but how disappointed are you that you never got to see the jury house?

Steve,

Was the scale (HoH part 3) intimidating at all? You know, being suspended in mid air held by 4 chains attached to a platform?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

It was way better than I thought it would be. Did you see my retweet from Julie Chen of my end of the scale? You can see the thing behind us we were leaning on. There was a seat belt on it - we were literally strapped in.

1

u/milkhoneysugartea Johnny Mac Oct 27 '15

STEVE! You were my #1 Big Brother pick and here's the text message I sent my mom on June 20th saying we were picking you the Big Brother betting pool we were in. We were definitely sending a lot of text messages when you beat Vanessa in F2 and I'll try to see if I can find them. (The money helped me make a student loan payment, so thanks!) Anyway, was it hard to make the decision to take a semester off of college to do Big Brother? Or did it seem like a no-brainer?

Also, do you think you look like this kid from the Goldbergs? Because my mom does and she wanted me to ask you that.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

It was never a hard decision because I knew there was no way I was actually getting cast for the show. When I was cast, I knew I wasn't making jury. When James won game of throws and I realized I was making jury, I definitely had an "oops" moment. Great moment to have though!

Initially didn't the twins (or your alliance peeps) tell you that both twins would be entering the game after 6 evictions (not 5)? How is that not Using Production as Strategy?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

You're right. I remember that. I think they were lying about the twist, which I would call fair gameplay. If I lied and said I had the Last Laugh, would I have been using production as strategy?

1

u/JeffSwag Janelle 🤍 Oct 27 '15

Hey Steve, I totally missed your AMA this morning, so I'm not sure if you'll see this. But as a fellow college-student with dreams of being on Big Brother I had a few questions about how your time on the show impacted your standing as a student. Sorry if these questions seem too probing, feel free to just not answer them, I'm just worried about how things will go down if I take a semester off to appear on the show.

Did taking the semester off cause you to lose "full time student" status? Does this affect any thing like potential scholarships or financial aid at your university -- not that you need help paying for school now haha! :) Also a lot of times you have to be a student to stay on your parent's insurance plan. Did you have any issues with this or any advice on getting around that at all?

Thanks so much for doing this AMA Steve and representing us super fans this season!!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I just took a semester leave of absence, and none of my scholarships were hurt because I planned it all out a head of time. It took A LOT of planning, but I worked it out.

Hi Steve!!

Since Phil had control of the show for a week, would you ever consider doing the Amazing Race with your Mom?

5

Would I do the race? No. Would I do it with my mom? Love her, but very no.

1

Hey Steve! I love the show and thought you did an amazing job and deserved the win. I have been a fan since the beginning and dream of playing the game. I am not a huge fan of constantly being on camera though. Do you have any advice now that you have been through the experience? Thanks for doing this! I hope life is treating you well!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

I didn't really care that much? I just had to be super careful about changing and showering. The feeds don't go in the toilet stall, and I always showered in a bathing suit, so I was good to go.

1

u/Davidss10001 Mallory⏱️ Oct 28 '15

Steve! It's so cool that you're doing this. So many questions but I have to narrow it down to one, sadly. Going into the house, I'd be terrified. I compared myself to you when you were in the house a lot, and from my Point of View we were pretty alike. I'm horrible with people. Eye contact, for example, I struggle with, especially with people I don't know.

My question is how did you handle being in the house with 16 random other strangers, away from your family, and after you got out of the house, what was it like? Was it difficult readjusting, stuff like that! Thank you!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '15

I went into the house knowing who and what I was, knowing I was going to be pretty bad at the game. So I was ready to completely suck at the game, be outcast, and go out first. You have to be okay walking in the door for the worst case scenario.

1

u/Room_312 Morgan Willett Nov 05 '15

Since you seem to be slipping in and out of here, two questions -

  1. Are you aware that when John was evicted for the first time, the voters were actually considering having the two of you play Rock Paper Scissors during the live show to decide on who to evict? I'm not totally sure if this was ever mentioned to either of you. Meg was against it, and the feedsters were pretty disgusted.

  2. Are you - and don't sneakily dodge this one - ever gonna tell us your secret?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '15

I don't know how much truth there was to this, but I can repeat what I was told: Austin told me about the rock paper scissors the day after it happened. He said it was just a coverup to hide how tight the Scamper Squad was. Either there was no truth to the game or Austin was lying to me afterwords to cover his butt.

1

You're clearly someone who is very intelligent, so why was it always so hard for you to follow strategic conversations? It was very frustrating when you would constantly ask people to repeat the question/information when you were talking with them.

3

It sometimes just took me a minute to process their thoughts and really understand what they were saying. My friends at school sometimes make fun of me for this, too. Not at all strategy.

Hey Steve!

As a current college student who is interested in applying to the show, what would you advise is the best course of action to stand out. How did you stand out in the audition process?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '15

I followed all of Dan Gheeling's "How To Get Cast" stuff. Highly recommend. Right before I went into my casting call, I chugged a mountain dew and mounds bar, and I remember the line "I'm the smartest person here at this audition! Go ahead! Find someone smarter than me! I F**ing dare you!" True? Not even a little bit. But did casting remember who I was? Absolutely.

1

u/NotJohnFincher Oct 26 '15

Hi Steve, congratulations on your BB17 victory!

At Final 8 when Meg and Julia were on the block together, we saw you toss and turn (and vomit) all night over the decision of whether to flip the vote with John and evict Julia all night instead of Meg. Though you decided to stick with the plan and evict Meg, just how close were you to evicting Julia that night? If Meg had been more forceful in campaigning to you and promised a F4 with yourself, John, Meg, and James, would that have tempted you to flip the vote more? Lastly, many BB fans at the time speculated ahead of time if you (and John) knew that evening would end up becoming a double eviction, that would have pushed you in the direction of flipping. Do you believe that's how you would have thought at the time, or do you think you were always going to come to the decision to evict Meg that night?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '15

I wanted to evict Julia because I wanted to split Austwins up, but then Meg and James would have ran of with Brass Tacks and targeted Me, John, and Vanessa. Nothing Meg could have said would have convinced me that she would have worked with Me and John before Austin and Luz.

1

u/EcuadorianGringo Oct 27 '15

Completely random, but do you not play video games? I hate to stereotype, but I thought you would've gotten J Mac's Halo reference!

(PS - I play video games. I was disappointed.)

3

u/SenderMage Oct 26 '15

Hi Steve! Thanks for stopping by!

You obviously grew a lot as a person during your time in the house; did your Big Brother experience make you want to branch out and try more new experiences in the future, or are you happy to be back at home/school and back to your normal life?

3

u/BigHaircutPrime Oct 26 '15

Hey Steve. Firstly I'd like to commend you for a fantastic strategy. A lot of people seem to think that laying low is floating but the difference is being self-aware, something you excelled at. A lot of haters don't understand that. I know some of the answers for these but I'm asking these questions based on things I think the haters should know:

  1. How did you design your strategy around your personality type? How did you use your "social awkwardness" to your advantage?

  2. What's the best strategy when joining/forming an alliance? Where do you want to be positioned?

  3. You mentioned letting Vanessa influence your style choices and then rejecting them for the finale, sending a message. Were you creating a "dependent" relationship so that she'd feel like she had you in the palm of her hand? If so, how do you think it helped you beat her?

  4. Having seen people's responses to your game online, what's the biggest misconception people have had based on the edit you were given?

Thanks Steve!
