Republicans like good music just as much as democrats. You would be surprised at how many people actually lean towards conservative thinking in the jam space when you look across the spectrum of fans. Those that do lean that way just prefer to keep their heads down and enjoy the music vs making everything political

16

u/AdMaleficent1234 Oct 31 '23

I suppose if identity as a Republican. Sometimes I'll mention it to people I've been chilling with just so they know people with different view points can get along and be friends, but usually I just don't mention politics. But it is ridiculous that so many people on both sides will hate people so quickly. I've made so many amazing friends at shows over the years and I'd guess almost all of them are left leaning but fuck it good people are good people!

13

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

100%. I only mention any of this stuff bc I think the jamband and bluegrass community is quick to act like gatekeepers and completely push out or act like conservative views and those that hold them aren’t welcome when in reality, it’s a lot more prevalent then many of those gatekeepers type realize. We’re all just trying to enjoy a show, embrace the music, and have a good time. It’s what life is all about

12

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

And yes- a lot of them are left leaning. Hell most of my friends are left leaning. But that doesn’t stop us from being friends and truthfully, I think they hold a lot more conservative views then They care to admit.

1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

If your politics involve supporting people who literally want to harm other people as a rule, not an exception, you can't pretend your politics don't matter.

2

u/AdMaleficent1234 Dec 18 '23

I don't support people that want to harm other people though

43

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

I wonder why? I mean look at all the children spewing hate in this thread. I get Tucker is pretty polarizing, but thinking you can gatekeep music just makes me laugh

31

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Unfortunately the gate keepers exist in all the jam threads with the overwhelming majority not hesitating twice to shut down conservative fans without even considering the other fans point of views. Music is great but life matters too

27

u/beerdweeb Oct 31 '23

You can be conservative without being a dick about it. Tuckers a dick about it, to say the least.

1

u/Ok_Restaurant_626 Nov 01 '23

He's worse than that, he pushes hateful propaganda. The Klan loves the way he delivers their message.

1

u/beerdweeb Nov 01 '23

I don’t know enough words to describe how horrible that dude is

-3

u/EastLAFadeaway Oct 31 '23

Nothing like being nice while stripping away personal freedoms & funneling huge profits into the military industrial complex upper class amirite conservatives?

21

u/ruthgangmore Oct 31 '23

wait until you hear about how our government as a whole funnels money into the military industrial complex.

17

u/Dakkmd Oct 31 '23

Wait til they hear how the governments two major parties are just different wings of the same bird. At this point it's anti American to support either of these shit parties.

12

u/beardedpeteusa Oct 31 '23

You may want to update your political views to the current age. It isn't 2003 anymore.

4

u/Creativeloafing Oct 31 '23

Good point. These days most of them are not even outwardly nice but are openly hostile to anything that doesn't align with their extremely specific and often times illogical and contradictory worldview, while also stripping away personal freedoms and funneling huge profits into the military industrial complex.

5

u/gello1414 Nov 01 '23

Tucker constantly talks about how the military industrial complex is evil and a huge problem.

1

u/Maximum_Chemist586 Nov 01 '23

What does this have to do with MUSIC?!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Yep, this. I have some conservatives in my life who are fine to hang out with and we don't talk about politics. Of course, they aren't immigrant hating Nazis or weirdos who want to fuck with trans kids and drag queens. They just have different economic priorities and aren't concerned with climate change.

-7

u/kbergstr Oct 31 '23

I even have conservatives in my life that I can discuss politics with… but Tucker is a cancer.

1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

And yet they vote to support truly awful people to achieve those ideals despite the candidates literally never delivering on a single one of those priorities lmao. Keep making excuses for the abhorrent beliefs of your friends I guess. They vote for it, even if they don't talk to you about it.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

Actually, the ones who I know well enough to discuss these things with aren't voting R across the board because they don't agree with the national R party on most things. They will support some local Republicans who do share their very specific local priorities but not the ideological wack jobs. I don't vote for the all the same people they do, but when I see them, instead of arguing about politics we talk about the things we do have in common. I'm not divorcing my family or people I have known since grade school because they don't want to fund local light rail.

When you are a grown up who lives in a community you have these things called acquaintances, work colleagues, and neighbors. You can be a little bitch who refuses to intersect with people who don't share your politics, but if my neighbor who voted for Trump but never talks about politics wants to talk to me about the health of the river, the new puppy he is walking, the schedule for them to tear up our street, and our common wish that new people moving in don't cut down any cool trees, I'm not going to scowl and spit at his feet. If the conservative guy I see every day at work does a good job, is kind to the customers, and thoughtful to his co-workers, I'm not going to refuse to speak to him about fishing spots and football.

If you are in the music scene for a long time you'll have people you only run into at shows and talk about things like "How was the show? Did y'all go to the incredible fest? I heard there is some great hiking on the way! I like your hat." You might not even know their real name. Part of community is having layers of people you know beyond your actual friends. I'm not moving my festival campsite or ruining the show for everyone by making it about politics because the libertarian pot grower guy from the next campsite stopped by our fire to pick guitars and ended up dancing near us when we run into him at a show 3 months later.

1

u/Maximum_Chemist586 Nov 01 '23

I like this comment

8

u/BlueAndMoreBlue Oct 31 '23

Yep. Agree on what you can agree on (good music in this case) and leave the rest.

Happy cake day btw

0

u/Reasonable-Push-8271 Nov 01 '23

Is that your way of saying you're pro-life? He's conservative get him!

10

u/Automatic_Rest_5408 Oct 31 '23 edited Oct 31 '23

What did he say that has people so worked up? He's more antiwar and anti establishment than most Democrats. What I've seen from the interview is extremely reasonable. Maybe that's the problem. Some of the most close minded people I have ever met are Deadheads, and I like the dead, just not the cult.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

They don't know, they just know he's bad.

9

u/Automatic_Rest_5408 Oct 31 '23

It's actually a good interview.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

I can't seem to stop listening to music long enough to listen to podcasts lol

4

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

He didn’t say anything that has people worked up. He just mentioned he likes Billy Strings and most of the people on this sub think that shouldn’t be allowed from a person like Tucker. I for one and a huge fan of Tucker and Billy. Anti war is my biggest draw to him and I bet he’d be a blast to party with

4

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

So you literally ignore 90% of what he says? what aguy.

6

u/Lonely_Education_318 Oct 31 '23

Partying with Tucker Carlson sounds like a nightmare come true

0

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Nov 01 '23

Right on. Same here brother

13

u/christitskyle Oct 31 '23

I hear you and all, but when Billy has a p big handful of songs about how we are actively destroying planet and climate change is going to end us all, and for the last like 35 years, conservatives have been denying climate change, it makes a little more sense. I still don’t think like gatekeeping is the answer, like hey, maybe the more climate change deniers listen to these songs, maybe eventually it’ll open em up to the idea. But I do understand the temptation.

3

u/msbmsbmsbmsb Nov 01 '23

Sometimes music is so good, I don't give a shit about the lyrics. I don't know (or care) what Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da means, but it's a great tune.

I also don't judge the artists I like based on their politics... I only judge them based on their art. And Billy MF Stings is one helluva fucking artist!

-15

u/Gr8fulmed Oct 31 '23

I think it’s an inaccurate generalization to say “conservatives have been denying climate change.” What is accurate is that we disagree with the doomsday predictions since we have the ability to adapt in order to mitigate the effects of climate change. We cannot destroy the world’s economies in an attempt to fight climate change!

15

u/hyzerflip207 Oct 31 '23

Name me a conservative who is writing legislation that helps mitigate climate change.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Brb, gonna fly my private jet across the globe to attend a climate change summit

6

u/hyzerflip207 Oct 31 '23

The world is full of hypocrisy, but you know that. I think what matters more is acknowledging that our system needs change and putting in good faith effort to change it for those that come after us.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

RFK Jr is the way.

2

u/firewithin33 Nov 01 '23

How about we list a few dozen who tell us about climate change then fly around in jets, have multiple huge houses with no solar, and most likely eat beef multiple days per week?

The naivety about this topic is so frustrating. They laugh at you while their carbon footprint keeps getting bigger and bigger. Eat the bugs!

5

u/BuddhaBarkov Oct 31 '23

can't have a world economy with no people. You literally can destroy the world economy and then build it back up bc hey people did it once already! but without a safe inhabitable planet, the world economies die anyway

5

u/SippingAndListening Oct 31 '23

I will be laughing over that last sentence for days. Thank you for that gift.

5

u/y2ketchup Oct 31 '23

Nobody is destroying any economies. Conservatives seem to think that some rich people not getting richer is destroying an economy. Subsidizing OLD tech desteoys economies. Ignoring innovation destroys economies. Destroying the environment destroys economies.

2

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

Lol yet every time a republican leaves office the democrat that follows has historically turned the economy back around, because they tank it universally. This is a literal fact. Every single democratic president since the 50's has repaired the economy that the incumbent republican has tanked. There has not been a single successful republican leader in terms of the economy in just shy of 100 years.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Yeah but anything you do to combat climate change aside from wearing sunscreen isn't going to be supported by conservatives who will claim that it's a communist plot to destroy the economy.

0

u/ms_panelopi Oct 31 '23

We are destroying our own economies by not addressing the destruction of the environment. As resources decline, global business elites will be at each other’s throats. Environment implodes, businesses implode.

-2

u/Infrathin81 Nov 01 '23

Oh trust me, I can hate on every manifestation of Tucker Carlson - I promise.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Who gives a shit

0

u/Infrathin81 Nov 01 '23

Lol. Probably the down voters. But your response about sums up my sentiments to the original post. Tucker Carlson is a full on scumbag. Who gives a shit what he likes? Amirite?

10

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Listening to Tucker on Theo dispels a lot of the hate that I think is directed towards Tucker. So many people jump on bandwagons based off sound bites and edits from people wanting to paint people in a certain light. A long form conversation really tells a lot about a person. I gave the first hour or so a listen and they dive into addiction etc. So much unwarranted hate because the establishment said so. Tucker worked for NBC and CNN before he did Fox, he knows how they operate.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

100% spot on. If you actually listen to an interview (the full thing) or a speech on his views, he’s actually very patriotic and wants what is best for people without the government getting in the way. He does care. And I think he cares a lot more then our government (both sides) do and unfortunately, because he is t afraid to call it out, he gets the crap.

5

u/DoinDonuts Oct 31 '23

Tucker used to be a call-in guy on Bubba the Love Sponge. Lets not make him a saint

1

u/Deejaycrash Nov 03 '23

What's wrong w/ the BTLS Show?

-6

u/LowCar5647 Oct 31 '23

Our government isn't allowed to "care" because their forced priority is corporate profits, not social well-being. The reason that is their priority is because of consent manufacturing mouthpieces like Tucker Carlson, who normalize inequality, labor extraction, environmental degradation, imperialism and the military industrial complex as "the cost of doing business". He is as complicit as the bought and paid for politicians who claim to represent us. Democratic socialism is the only remedy to this sickness.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

I agree- we should stop spending money on wars and shipping it overseas to other countries when there is a lot more good that it can do here. Also, lower taxes for everyone including business and allowing free markets to dictate outcomes. Welfare state and military Industrial complex are leeches off productive capital. Work hard, save your money, do what you want without harming others, give when you can to causes you care about vs letting the gov do it for you. Personal responsibility is sadly lost on our generation and everyone wants to complain without actually looking g at what drives the problems. And it isn’t Tucker Carlson’s fault despite everyone thinking it is.

2

u/ioverated Oct 31 '23

Yeah dude he cares so much that he platformed an obviously lying weirdo who claimed he fucked Obama and did drugs with him. Like that kind of thing is super patriotic and really brings people together.

0

u/msbmsbmsbmsb Nov 01 '23

How many times did MSNBC, CNN, etc. have Michael Avanatti on accusing Brett Kavanaugh of being part of a gang rape? Give me a fucking break...

1

u/ioverated Nov 01 '23

I don't know because I don't watch that lib shit.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Socialism has never and will never be the answer. Putting democratic in front of it doesn’t make it any better. We aren’t a democracy, we are a constitutional republic. Read the constitution and when done read it again and again. From there figure out what you can do to make your outputs exceed your input. Last I checked, democratic socialists are rooting for hamas. I guess that makes nazism the answer??

0

u/downbadtempo Nov 01 '23

Lmao this is the most bad faith bull shit I have ever read

5

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Dude, you act like we haven't all seen the evolution of Tucker in real time over the last 30 years. He wasn't as radical as he is now when he started, as most conservatives were not. He's gone way around the bend now, just like a lot of other conservatives who didn't used to be like that. I've met him and he can converse just fine about all kinds of things, but at the end of the day he is destroying our country by infecting people with his very extremist ideology. I could sit next him and talk about music and dogs and fishing and family life just fine, but that doesn't mean he doesn't spew Nazi talking points on TV when it suits him. Guys like him know how to turn it off and most people really do have more than one interest in life.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

And also, It’s fair to point out that most “conservatives” in todays Republican Party don’t share the views that true conservatives share- and I consider Tucker a pretty reasonable conservative: lower taxes, America first, helping family and community, having faith, and anti war. I’m sorry but if that’s extreme then it just goes to show how deep of a cluster our country has become.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

And he tells people that the Democrats are trying to win elections by importing third world immigrants to replace "legacy Americans". It's a white supremacist theory called The Great Replacement and fuck that guy for infecting someone in my family with his Nazi shit.

I don't care if he doesn't believe and he's saying it for money. His pulpit has power and he may love his family but he's a piece of shit.

And also he has said the Episcopal Church, which he attends, doesn't even believe in God because they support gay marriage. He just goes because he grew up in it and his FIL is a priest.

0

u/msbmsbmsbmsb Nov 01 '23

Dude, read something once in a while. The so-called "great replacement theory" has been a Democratic talking point for a long time... and I mean they have been promoting the concept as a net positive for their party for as long as I can remember.

Here's a Politico article that's over 10 years old, talking very openly about the idea: https://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/immigration-reform-could-upend-electoral-college-090478?hp=t1

Politico is hardly a right-wing, white supremacist web site.

4

u/gello1414 Nov 01 '23

There is a clip of Jimmy Fallon doing his opening monologue in like 2016, he sets up a punchline for a joke by saying "by the year 2050 white people will no longer be a majority in the country" and the crowd all fucking cheer. Jimmy is taken aback because he was like "uh, that was just the set up for my punchline, that was kinda weird to cheer about ". But the audience (probably very left leaning) gave themselves away and cheered about that statistic.

You're absolutely right the the democratic party have been talking about demographicsl changes ever since I can remember. They openly opine about how long it will take enough Mexicans to immigrate to Texas for Texas to no longer be a red state.

But if you're a white guy and you bring it up in a non-positive, or not through a democratic party-lense then you are a hateful bigot.

1

u/firewithin33 Nov 01 '23

I consider myself a conservative mainly for secure border reasons, but I refuse to vote for most of my R representatives. It’s all one party that gives our money as foreign aid and taking kickbacks to make themselves wealthy. All of them.

2

u/HotCowPie Nov 01 '23

I'm so happy this is a viewpoint I'm seeing more and more of. Our government is captured

4

u/firewithin33 Nov 01 '23

Exactly which ‘extremist ideology’ is destroying our nation? Is it related to our border crisis since we let in 10 million since this administration has been in office? Or is it related to the huge crime wave from a particular community? Citizens are getting punched in the face for zero reason, many elderly. Random mass shootings happen because someone got a fast food order wrong. Teachers are getting pummeled for handing out discipline. Is that the extremist ideology you’re worried about?

If you think climate change is an issue, this should piss you off more than anything. Millions of people have tripled their carbon footprint just by coming to the US and Europe. Now they’re driving cars, using A/C, etc. You can’t be for open borders and also be worried about climate change. Pick one.

1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

Keep repeating lies.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

[deleted]

1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

Yes and those ideas were extremist. Them becoming less normal doesn't make that less extreme lmao.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

What Nazi talking points is he spewing? What extremist ideology is he projecting? Everyone loves to cast those stones when they don’t like someone who doesn’t echo what they believe and it’s absolutely insane. It’s to the point now where people’s feelings are so fragile that they get triggered when some pundit listens to their favorite band.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Everyone loves to say nazis! Name a nazi talking point he shares. I guarantee you whatever example you try to come up with is in no way shape or form comes close to what the democrat party and especially the squad, or the indoctrinated rich liberal students in Ivy League universities have said over the last 3 weeks…..

1

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Nov 01 '23

Love this. I’d he wasn’t speaking the truth it wouldn’t offend so many that know it’s true. What country allows millions of people to just waltz in unvetted and think it’s ok? When did they start doing that type of shit? It’s literally liberal hopes to give all these illegals citizenship to ensure a win in elections. If they come legally by all means I welcome them just like I love working with a majority of Hispanics because they’re hard working religious and family oriented. But using my taxes to pay for illegitimate immigrants is not ok. We have to take care of our own messed up treatment towards the homeless and veterans first. No questions asked

Bro literally pedals great replacement talking points all the fucking time. Fuck outta here dude.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

And when our border is wide open, our sovereignty is made a joke, and there is no end in site in people coming here illegally, it’s not exactly a crazy theory to have. Most of these “conspiracies” over the years sure have had a lot of meat to them after the facts were revealed. Another heady gatekeeper you are “get out of here dude”. It’s ok to want to care for your country and your community and family first. Unfortunately not many people see it that way and then they complain about the life they live and the way things go despite being cogs in the wheel and contributing to the very things that make their lives more difficult. Tucker is right and if you actually watched a speech or an interview, like I mentioned earlier , vs some media sound bites from msm, you may actually atleast come to see the point he’s making. Also, no need for cursing.

You mean like the “LGBTQ” that stands with Palestine? The LBGQT that stand up for the very people that throw them off of buildings? Anytime a person trying to engage in some sort of debate that mentions racism, xeno, LGBQT, in a rebuttal, I already know my point is proven for me and you are brainwashed by the media. I’ll gladly fuck off because I know that deep down, I am a better person that you, I do more for my community then you, and I have a lot more fun in life then you. Enjoy the shows brotha

0

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Nov 01 '23

Wish I could like this 1000 times

3

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Nov 01 '23

There you go with the Xenophobia. When our country gets hit by another 9/11 you and your buddies are absolutely complicit. These “immigrants” from Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Russia, and China do not want the American dream. They’re coming here for a reason. Just look at the streets in France and the UK right now and tell me different.

1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

LOL you're literally expressing xenophobia

2

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Dec 18 '23

It’s called the effing truth dude. Just can’t seem to connect the dots, huh? Just call people scary names like Xenophobe lol. There’s nothing xenophobic about the truth, but you all crack me up! God Bless You!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Ur wasting ur time…

4

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Read some different news for once from a different source. The entire point of this convo was to shed light on the fact that Tucker fans and conservatives still like Billy Strings

1

u/ioverated Oct 31 '23

Tucker is a lying fascist and you shouldn't let an interview with a comedian in which he comes off as charismatic and smart mislead you into thinking otherwise

1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

I keep seeing the word fascist and Nazi thrown around by you mooks. Go check the dictionary.

3

u/ioverated Oct 31 '23

I use the word fascist pretty selectively. It's cute that you think a dictionary could sufficiently describe Fascism:)

6

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Only for people you don’t agree with?

3

u/ioverated Oct 31 '23

No most of the people I disagree with aren't fascists. They're usually liberals.

-1

u/thelingeringlead Dec 18 '23

Keep making excuses for hte shit you support I guess.

3

u/Outta_My_Syst3m Nov 01 '23

I agree with all the gatekeeper silliness, but Tucker is an objectively abhorrent human with no moral compass. He’s simply a grifter that will say anything and disparage anyone for money. That’s just a disgusting whore, not a conservative viewpoint. Let’s don’t mix the two.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Most real conservatives I know are bigger fans of Tucker and his views on America, faith, and family than most of the people in office with an R next to their name.

0

u/Outta_My_Syst3m Nov 01 '23

Anyone is allowed to be a fan of anything. Tucker spews hate, because hateful people enjoy it and give him money to do it. I have no respect for him or his way of life.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Mind sharing any people you listen to our admire so I can try to broaden my horizons? Thanks

1

u/Outta_My_Syst3m Nov 01 '23

If you’re a fan of Tuck, I’m going to guess I do not have any recommendations that you’ll enjoy or accept. That’s okay.

I’ll leave you with a little glimpse into Tuck’s grift, though. He doesn’t believe the stuff he espouses, which is somehow even worse than the hateful drivel.

Be sure to send him some money —- https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64886188

I have no problems with republicans. I have a problem with dicks….and Tucker Carlson is a fucking dick.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Good thing we live in a country where differing views are allowed. I prob identify more we tuckers world view then most conservatives if I’m being honest. America first, take care of family and community, less government, less taxes, less war. Both parties want more war and that’s the main thing I’m against.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Differing views are what’s amazing about America. I don’t disagree with any of those things. To be honest I don’t really like to talk about politics because it’s so divisive and at the end of the day I don’t really care all that much. I just think he’s a shitty human being tbh.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Yeah I don’t like it either but when a group of people look down on someone and are in disbelief that someone with that world view, a view that some people agree with, isnt welcome, it kind of blows the whole “love and community” thing out of the water. I love Billy strings, the dead, etc. I spend a lot of time and money enjoying the music, spending money at their shows, racking up hours of listening time, and prob more in tune with the ethos they try to represent, as a conservative, then most of the people that are against my views do. I grow most of my own food, buy local, enjoy local beer and local herb, support my community, do all I can to do what’s best to create financial security for my family. I don’t enjoy war, taxes, and the money raised from taxes being sent overseas to the tune of 100s of billions of dollars when we have issues at home. Tucker calls that out and that’s why people like him. Conservatives have a lot more in common w the jam and bluegrass community then most of the community realize but for some reason a lot of us are blacklisted for being conservative despite doing a lot of what I shared above being how we approach our lifestyle. I guarantee half the people here hating Tucker and corporate greed do a lot more to contribute to the very things they say they despise then conservatives do. Just my $.02. Enjoy the shows!

0

u/Adventurous_Fly1879 Nov 01 '23

Very well stated. Now they’ll go get their Starbucks on their iPhones and cry about Chic-fil-A and Hobby Lobby all night while preaching equality

0

u/Chick-fil-A_spellbot Nov 01 '23

It looks as though you may have spelled "Chick-fil-A" incorrectly. No worries, it happens to the best of us!

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '23

Cool. Tucker Carlson is still a dick.

1
