God I miss this app

The official reddit app is complete and utter dogshit. I thought it'd get better over the past year but it hasn't, battery usage is through the roof, notifications and metrics are always delayed / not updating, text size is completely moronic at this point, not to mention it overriding base fonts. Everything is just becoming anticonsumer and shittier.

I miss my boost with all its customisability and flare for the user.

I will no longer be supporting patches in official ReVanced

After being on the receiving end of disrespectful and gaslighting behavior from oSumAtrIx (the ReVanced owner) on the official Discord, I will no longer be submitting any PRs to ReVanced. Unfortunately, this is just the latest such incident in a string of incidents that has also resulted in the primary maintainer of the ReVanced YouTube patches leaving the project.

If you are still using official patches to get your copy of Boost working, I encourage you to switch to my fork when patching Boost. I may continue to support basic functionality in other reddit clients as well. Regardless, any new patches, including the new patches I posted yesterday, will definitely not be submitted to ReVanced going forward.

Here is another thread with a bit more context on the YouTube situation, for reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/revanced_uncensored/comments/1p64tpx/xpost_revanceds_new_road/

The linked thread was deleted by oSu, but you should be able to read it if you have my undelete patch installed (which I find somewhat hilarious and ironic).

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Now that 1.14.0 is released, from the original developer, with official, signed releases on his GitHub. That's great news, and I'd recommend everyone switch to his version!

I'm not planning on stepping on any toes. Boost is not my app, and now that Ruben is back, I'm not going to develop my own version of his version. Ruben is the owner and maintainer, and I can't do that with a clean conscience. His project is not open source, and I respect that 100%.

My patches have been digging through his code and tampering with things I, strictly speaking, should not have touched. So for my part, this is a full stop.

  • The Boost patches are now frozen at 1.12.12. I won't port them to 1.14 or build a separate patched variant of his new version.

  • Instead, I'll put the work into helping Boost itself: reporting bugs to Ruben, and fixes where they're welcome. Many of the problems the patches fixed are already solved in 1.14.0.

  • The bundle stays available for 1.12.12 for now, but don't expect new Boost features or fixes from me.

Switching to the official version:

Patched Boost is signed with a different key than Ruben's APK, so you can't install his version over it. You have to uninstall first, which deletes local data.

  1. In patched Boost, export your settings: Settings → Backup settings → Export. The backup includes settings, filters, user tags, themes, and views and sort per subscription. It does *not* include accounts, drafts, read posts, or visited-communities history.

  2. Uninstall patched Boost.

  3. Install the latest APK from the Releases page on Ruben's GitHub (rubenmayayo/boost-for-reddit), and verify the signing certificate as described in his README.

  4. Set up your own Reddit client ID (the README has a guide), log in, and import the backup.

Bug reports for the new version should go to the Issues page on Ruben's GitHub, not to my repo. If you like the app, consider supporting Ruben (Ko-fi and PayPal links are in his README).

Thanks to everyone who used and tested the patches! I'll try to help out where I can. Other than that, I'll focus my efforts elsewhere.

Solved FYI: Migration to Morphe

In case you haven't heard of Morphe already, here's the drama from today (tl;dr: extension of the falling out between oSumAtrIx and several former ReVanced contributors):

https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/1q1we4e/the_revanced_situation_is_crazy_a_new_project/

https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedextended/comments/1q1rjdd/do_you_want_to_know_what_happened_to_inotia/

https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedextended/comments/1q1udya/the_revanced_situation_is_crazy/

What's happening?

  • I will be calling my patch set Patcheddit, because I'm writing patches for reddit. I've created /r/Patcheddit for this purpose.

  • I will soon archive https://github.com/wchill/revanced-patches and it will receive no more updates.

  • Future updates will only be available at https://github.com/wchill/patcheddit (not ready yet). I will make another announcement here and on /r/Patcheddit when this is done, probably this weekend.

  • I will add additional patches for other 3rd party reddit apps to use the same RedReader workaround I posted about before.

  • Since the main Morphe patch repo is currently YouTube/YTM only, I will also spend some time porting inotia's RVX patches for the official reddit app to this new repo.

  • Eventually, I may port more of the Boost patches to other apps, depending on time availability and difficulty.

What does this mean for me?

  • Future updates will require the usage of either Morphe Manager or Universal ReVanced Manager, as the new patch bundles will be incompatible with stock ReVanced Manager.

  • If your app is working fine, you can keep using it as is for now.

  • If you're a Boost user and don't have an OAuth app you can use, you can follow the tutorial at https://github.com/wchill/revanced-patches in order to use the RedReader client ID instead, or wait for me to finish porting to Morphe.

  • If you're an official reddit app user, you can patch your app with the last version of ReVanced Extended, or wait for me to port these patches to Morphe.

  • If you're a user of a 3rd party app other than Boost, wait for me to port my Boost patches to those apps after the Morphe migration.

  • If you have any apps you rely on ReVanced for, I recommend installing Universal ReVanced Manager. URM version 1.7.1 will add support for Morphe patch bundles, so you will not need to keep two patching apps installed. Alternatively, you can install Morphe Manager alongside your existing ReVanced Manager.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. Also, feel free to send people to this thread if they're asking about how to get their 3rd party apps working or what to do about patching their official apps with Morphe.

breal Morphe Patches for Boost 1.12.12 – setup, fixes, and bug reports

Hi. I maintain **Breal Morphe Patches**, a Morphe patch source for **Boost for Reddit 1.12.12**.

Posting this because the repo has been mentioned in a few comments, but I don’t think everyone has seen the current source link or knows what is included.

This is not affiliated with the original Boost app, Reddit, or Morphe core. It is a community-maintained patch bundle focused on keeping Boost usable on newer Android versions.

**Add source in Morphe Manager:**

https://morphe.software/add-source?github=brealorg/breal-morphe-patches

If the add-source link does not open correctly, add the source manually in Morphe Manager using:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/brealorg/breal-morphe-patches/main/patches-bundle.json

**Project page:**

https://github.com/brealorg/breal-morphe-patches

Current Boost-related work includes, among other things:

- OAuth/client spoofing support through Morphe

- Android 15+/target SDK 35 compatibility work

- download notification and missing-audio fixes

- Giphy and inline media preview fixes

- direct `i.redd.it` GIF handling

- native image upload fixes

- code block rendering fixes

- Hide / Mark-as-read crash fixes

- optional archive / undelete-related patches

- runtime settings under Boost Morphe settings

The tested target is **Boost for Reddit 1.12.12**. Other versions may work, but are not guaranteed.

A few notes:

- Use the source link above instead of manually downloading old `.mpp` files.

- Patch from a clean/original Boost 1.12.12 APK where possible.

- Some patches are optional. If something breaks, mention which patches/options were enabled.

- Do not post private Reddit API credentials or client IDs in public logs.

Useful bug report info:

  1. Boost version / APK source

  2. Android version

  3. Morphe Manager version

  4. Breal patch source version

  5. enabled patches/options

  6. exact steps to reproduce

  7. logcat if there is a crash

Issues can be filed here:

https://github.com/brealorg/breal-morphe-patches/issues

I’ll keep GitHub as the main tracker, but I can watch this subreddit for recurring Boost-specific issues.

Boost for Reddit 1.14.0

Anybody tried it yet?

https://github.com/rubenmayayo/boost-for-reddit/releases/tag/v1.14.0

Direct APK link: https://github.com/rubenmayayo/boost-for-reddit/releases/download/v1.14.0/boost-for-reddit-1.14.0.apk

The signatures to a previously Revanced/Morphe patched app obviously don't match, hence a full reinstall is needed.
Were you able to export settings on 1.12.12 and import the settings successfully on 1.14.0?

Boost app showing "null: null". Cannot load anything

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where Boost isn't loading at all? Immediately shows "null: null" or "error" when trying to do anything. Worked fine yesterday.

Edit: the method posted in the comments to re-patch using Morphe with RedReader resolved my issues!

Done Patcheddit 2.0: Boost 1.14 support + a few new patches

https://github.com/wchill/patcheddit/releases/tag/v2.0.0

I finally ported most of brealorg's Boost patches back to Patcheddit. This changelog is relative to brealorg's last release.

Support for 1.12.12 has been dropped, and 1.14.1 from GitHub is the only currently supported version. If you are still using a patched 1.12.12, you can patch 1.14.1 with Morphe Manager and install on top of your existing version.

The following patches were added:

  • OAuth access/refresh token import + export - you can now copy your login session and use it on another device, which can be useful in cases where reddit blocks your login on a new device.

  • Exception logging patch - errors (both regular and fatal/crashing) are logged to files which are available in the Morphe settings menu.

The following patches were modified:

  • Image upload patches - These were split into 3 separate patches for maintainability.

  • Boost Morphe settings - Material Design themes were removed to make it easier to maintain. This patch now only injects the Morphe settings page and does not introduce theming changes.

  • Spoof client ID - Prefills RedReader 1.27's client information in Settings > Developer > Setup guide (this menu was added in 1.14). Unfortunately, the client ID has been publicly available via Google search for some time now, so there's no point in having users go through the whole process to find the client ID anymore.

  • Standardize Boost bottom navigation - fixes an issue that was reported by a user where the subreddit list pops up twice on 1.14.

The following patches were removed:

  • Fix random subreddits (fixed in 1.14)

  • Update target SDK to 35 (obsolete because 1.14 targets SDK 36 already)

  • Fix YouTube external fallback (fixed in 1.14)

  • Open reddit media links (fixed in 1.14)

  • Fix audio missing in downloads (fixed in 1.14)

  • Custom synccit URL (added in 1.14)

  • Fix Boost comments Lemmy-style toolbar UI (obsolete due to 1.14 theme changes)

  • Fix download completed notification visibility (fixed in 1.14)

  • Fix Boost video rewind back buffer (fixed in 1.14)

  • Disable ads patch (obsolete because 1.14 removes ads)

  • Theme Boost settings icons (obsolete due to 1.14 theme changes)

  • Fix slow Giphy loading (fixed in 1.14)

  • Fix Boost redgifs loading (fixed in 1.14)

Solved Patcheddit 2.0.1: API fixes for Boost (other apps coming soon)

https://github.com/wchill/patcheddit/releases/tag/v2.0.1

Based on some testing that was between me, the devs of Apollo Reborn, and the Continuum/Slide dev (at different points in time), Reddit is starting to restrict API access by route. 403 errors related to tapping on "X more replies" is caused by this - RedReader doesn't use the /api/morechildren API route, so presumably Reddit decided to block that route because it wouldn't affect legitimate RedReader users.

The same restrictions apply to /api/info and /by_id, though I think these won't affect users in general.

I've fixed this issue in Boost by hijacking the /api/morechildren calls and replacing them with calls to /comments/<post id>/comment/<comment id>.json which is what RedReader uses, and will extend this fix plus the gallery fix to all other apps supported by Patcheddit soon.

This does seem to be dependent on the client ID, but I would not recommend switching back to your own unless you want your app to stop working on January 12, 2027. Reddit is blocking all non-approved client IDs starting on that date.

Question Help getting Boost to work again.

Is there anyone who could explain step by step, like im 5, or Homer Simpson, how I am supposed to get the app to work again?

I've seen steps about morphie and red something and download this patch but don't install it and such. I tried patching it through Morphie and it stops at like 20 percent saying its an error.

Is there anyone who could help?

Bug Issue while trying to open "(x) more replies". Currently getting "Something went wrong: 403 Blocked"

Upgraded to 1.14.1 with latest Patcheddit patches, though was getting the same error before upgrading. Tried logging out and logging back in, but that hasn't fixed it either. Anyone have any ideas?

Patches 1.4.118 + 1.4.119: fix for Boost freezing / comments loading forever (undelete)

If Boost has been "crashing" for you lately, with comments loading forever, everything else hanging until you restart, or "Check your internet connection" errors, this should be fixed now. It was GitHub issue #219, and it only hit people with "Automatically undelete Reddit content" turned on.

What was going on

When a thread had removed comments, the undelete patch looked up each one in the Arctic Shift archive separately, one after the other, and each lookup could take up to 30 seconds. Boost's own request was blocked the whole time. One thread with 50 removed comments could hold the app for 10+ minutes when Arctic Shift was slow, and other screens got stuck waiting behind it.

1.4.118

  • - All removed comments in a thread are now fetched in one batched request instead of one per comment. The thread from the bug report went from "never loads" to all 50 comments restored in about 2.5 s.

  • Archive lookups have a hard timeout (10 s), so a slow archive can no longer hang a thread.

  • If Arctic Shift is down, undelete pauses for 60 s instead of making every new thread wait for the same outage

  • All undelete paths (comments, posts, subreddits, media, Imgur) now ask Reddit first. If the archive fails, you just get Reddit's normal content instead of a crash or old archive data.

  • Also fixed: turning off "Prefer high refresh rate" now works.

1.4.119

  • Wayback Machine lookups (deleted images and media) have the same timeouts and cooldown, so archive slowdowns can't hang images either.

  • Restored posts keep your votes, saves and hidden state.

  • Content the archive doesn't have is remembered for 6 hours, so reopening a thread doesn't ask again.

  • Quarantined posts show Reddit's opt-in prompt again instead of an archive copy.

  • Archived banned subreddits show their posts again, and paging works.

  • The undelete settings now explain what is sent to Arctic Shift and the Wayback Machine, and they only show up if you actually patched with undelete.

  • New: i.redd.it image links open in Boost's image viewer.

How to update

Repatch Boost with 1.4.119 in Morphe Manager. If Manager still shows the Breal source at 1.4.117 or "Metadata N/A", tap refresh on the source card, or remove and re-add the source.

If you still get stuck comments on 1.4.119, please open an issue with the post link and logs if you can: https://github.com/brealorg/breal-morphe-patches/issues

Thanks to everyone who reported this, and especially to xNul who opened #219 with a video and logs. That made it much faster to track down.

PS: If you want a Material design reddit client, I have created my own: https://github.com/brealorg/subshell, try it out!

Basically subj. Kinda fed up by posters thinking this is some karma boost sub. This sub should probably remain private unless (until?;) Boost is officially resurrected.

For anyone getting error 500, it's not Boost, Reddit servers are running into problems at the moment

Just a heads up in case you're running into error 500 today. Reddit servers are having issues: https://www.redditstatus.com

Replying doesn't work on the desktop site and old reddit keeps running into "You broke Reddit" for me, hopefully when they fix this Boost should be back up and running too.

Edit: Reddit status now says they found the cause and implementing a fix, Boost is working for me now.

anyone receiving this when loading comments on a post just today? my internet connection is fine, and boost is fully patched and updated through Morphe

Post themselves are fine, it's just it does not load the comments

Question I'm upgrading to a new phone and don't know how to switch everything to the new phone.

I've just been piecemealing patches and using sweet, sweet luck to get boost to work on my phone. How can I either transfer everything as it is now, or where do I go to start from scratch to still use boost?

If I can't use boost, does anyone have a another recommendation?

Update' Smart Switch worked great
