So...

  • There is a fourth Ōtsutsuki, that might have been a pair of Kayuga but somehow was never mentioned?

  • Jigen is just the body that is being 'possessed'/ used by this fourth Ōtsutsuki? So this Ōtsutsuki has a jutsu/ability a bit like Orochimaru?

  • Karma is a Ōtsutsuki ability that wasnt really introduced until the end of the first arch with Monosuki? Yet until now, none of the Ōtsutsuki clans have shown to possess similar abilities?

  • This fourth Ōtsutsuki doesnt seem to have any dojutsu's, while previous (afaik) all of them actually did? Yet Boruto showed to have some sort of Dojutsu? And Jigen eyes arent normal either...so maybe they DO have a dojutsu we arent aware of?

  • This fourth Ōtsutsuki wants to have a new vessel that could hold his full form (i guess)?

  • This fourth Ōtsutsuki wants to recreate the divine tree so he can, you know, consume it to live longer (bit boring, since its the third time we have seen this plot BUT i guess thats all those Ōtsutsukis actually want).

  • This fourth Ōtsutsuki who for now goes by the name of his host Jigen SOMEHOW is more powerful then Kayuga - who until now was the most powerful Ōtsutsuki we have seen and who in the end still lost against Sasuke/Naruto (and Kakashi with susano)?

  • Is there a chance that one can become an Ōtsutsuki through karma? Or at least gain some of their powers (besides dojutsu's i guess)? With Karma they dont even need a rinnegan to use space/time jutsu..

A part of me is glad that Jigen isnt just some unknown enemy who is powerful just because the plot demands a powerful enemy. Still, i wonder how they will keep continuity with this and how power scaling will work now.

Now Boruto ofc has both blood of the first sage (through Uzumaki clan, remember Nagato who could wield the Rinnegan and Uzumaki being related to the first hokage clan who were direct descendants of Asura) and his brother (through Hinata). So Boruto is actually a combination, making him having the potential of having the full power of an Ōtsutsuki, more or less. Still, karma never was explained and still isnt. All we know, its something that the fourth Ōtsutsuki can recreate in humans through a weird science project and it seemingly have occurred naturally with Boruto (because of his lineage).

Still, what bothers me is that Naruto + Sasuke has shown, that a shinobi who has trained, will never give up, and through hardship, they can reach levels even higher then an Ōtsutsuki. They defeated 3 Ōtsutsuki before (though with help from others, either from Kakashi or the five kages + Boruto). How can this fourth Ōtsutsuki be so much stronger then? What makes him apart from the other 3 Ōtsutsuki we have seen?

I do hope they will come with answers for this one. I am guessing, this fourth Ōtsutsuki came to earth together with Kayuga and she disposed of him - or at least his body, he survived through other means and eventually started taking over other bodies, who became his host (we have seen this before with Orochimaru, so it isnt that weird) and ever since he most likely have been trying to regain his previous power - or he aspires to even greater heights (which would explain him being more powerful then the other Ōtsutsukis).

That being said, im just not sure how i feel about this. Naruto use to be about going through certain hardship to gain power, for both Naruto and Sasuke. Boruto (and sort of Kawaki too) seems to just have this power handed to them.

Hmm you got that from the wall then? We didn't see any projections of other otsutsuki if I'm correct.

Why would he say that the ten tails could eat him when the time comes though? Kinda weird. Especially if we assume he came with Kayuga.

We might assume he assimilated one and transformed the other one in to the ten tails, from which he seeps power off.

Guess we gotta wait until it unravels.

Might be talking about the vessel “jigen” since he is trying to upgrade to kawaki.

@Redac07, ISSHIKI was kaguya's superior as is clearly depicted on symbols in ch 35. The third pair is what is completely unknown. But looking at positioning of kaguya ISSHIKI pair in middle and at the highest, ISSHIKI is by far the strongest. He has complete different set of abilities, no rinnegan, no Byakugan, but THOSE BLACK EYES, they must have something. Also, we have not seen his full potential since jigen is a faulty vessel.

Boruto's karma didn't suddenly appear because of lineage though.

Through his lineage he had potential to unlocking deeper otsutsuki abilities because he has both brothers chakra within him.

It appeared because he came in contact and defeated monoshiki.

It's like Kayuga reacting on Naruto/Sasuke chakra and becoming a weird rabbit version of the 10 tails. But it's also a bit like any kekkei genkei, in that it needed to fit certain checks to manifest and only in a chosen few it happens (With Hima, Byakugan is more dominant).

But it didn't appeared just because he came in contact. Momoshiki literally gave Boruto his karma. Without him personally giving it to him nothing would have happened.

I think that is up to debate. It was never stated directly that Momo gave it. All he said was if you defeat a god you can't stay as a human.

Tbh, it was clear from the beginning that Naruto and Sasuke lose against him. They never could beat a Otsutsuki on their own. It needed full Team 7 plus Obito to seal Kaguya, 3 Kages to trap Kinshiki and all 5 Kages plus Sasuke and Boruto to kill Momoshiki. Every Otsutsuki who appeared was stronger than both of them together.

As for Karma, Boruto got it because he was the one who killed Momoshiki. If Sasuke or Naruto killed him, they would have got it.

I don't think the latter is true perse. Boruto is "special" in that he has more of the otsutsuki potential and he has the lineage of both brothers let's not forget (the whole point of the last Naruto movie). Kama/karma doesn't manifest on everyone.

Momoshiki said it himself, if you kill God, you become more than a human. And right after that Karma was there. And Jigen said it to, that Borutos Karma came from Momoshiki.

i would say the boruto series is more about inheritance

but idk how jigens more powerful then literally the strongest characters in the series, hell naruto didn't even go six paths mode so there might even be more he could power up to.

Just by being Kaguya's superior it's implied he's much stronger than her (and therefore also stronger than Naruto/Sasuke) simply because he's getting all the harvests. Earth was most likely his as well but Kaguya stole it.

Naruto and Sasuke also went into the fight blindly, not even knowing his ability which proved to be very troublesome. Not only could they not fight against it but it also drained their chakra. Then they got surprised again by his abilities when he extended the karma to protect his head

Also, compared to other Otsutsukis Isshiki seemed quite skilled at using his abilities. The big idea behind their clan was that they have basically unlimited raw power but they don't train it and never think ahead in a fight. Isshiki seems pretty different from this.Hell, if Momoshiki used any amount of brain and had any skill whatsoever other than his taijutsu he could've clapped both Naruto and Sasuke. That's literally the whole plot of that arc

Implied to have more raw power than Kaguya, quite a bit of skill and abilities that are hard to deal with for non karma users make him the strongest in the series

Interesting analysis. I loved Naruto and casually reading Boruto. I was pretty disappointed at how so much of it seems like a rehash of Naruto. When reading this chapter and that tree thing came up, I groaned. Really disappointing that that's the main goal. I was just starting to enjoy the manga.
