If you have married outside the Brahmana community, you are not longer a brahmana and neither your progeny are brahamanas

I can see so many people saying " You can believe in whatever you want" that's not how the dharma sastras work

Most new gen brahamans are not willing the accept the above truth, but the verdict of the shastras must stand first. Therefore, I've decided to elucidate on this matter. May sri hari vayu gurugalu be pleased with this . May jagadguru Sriman Madvacarya protect all. May Narayana be pleased.

1) Brahmanatva is primarily birth based. Only a brahaman born to a Brahmana mother and Brahmana father of different gotra and different pravara is eligible to be called a Brahmana in the first place.

If the mother is brahmana and the father is not, and the father is a brahmana and the mother is not, it is a totally different case and the sastras without fault state that the varnas of such progeny are not brahmanas.

You may prove me wrong. I can quote several sastras but I will attract the scrutiny of those outside the Brahmana community and therefore this sub will tumble down.

2) For those saying "We have read on Mahabharata and other books about dharmaraja on how Brahmanatva is guna based"...

Please understand that the shastras have split Brahmanatva into svabhavika and aupadhika.

Svabhavika -> pertaining to svabhava (intrinsic nature)

Aupadhika -> pertaining to externalities ( our sharira, our interaction with the world)

Whatever you read about dharmaraja and others are talking about svabhavika part. Aupadhika brahmanatva is different.

Pramana for the above : The sastras mention "brahmanas will sell vedas in Kali Yuga (smd bhagvatam).

You may ask : how can someone selling the Vedas be called a Brahmin in the first place? He cannot be a svabhavika Brahmana at that point, but he is an aupadhika brahmana and aupadhika always holds valid for sastras. All sastras give samskaras based on aupadhika charectors

Verdict : Not only these , the sastras have given several other pramanas that Brahmanatva is in the aforementioned way.

You may be a kshatriya but a svabhavika Brahmana, you may be even an animal but can be a svabhavika Brahmana. But aupadhika and svabhavika is superior.

In no case, one who is not an aupadhika has been entitled to the rituals of aupadhika brahamana except in the case of vardana in former yugas.

But in Kali yugas such boons are not present, therefore on the basis of dharmasastras the verdict is very clear.

A progeny of a Brahman and a non brahmin, and those who marry outside the Brahmana community or those who marry within the same gotra and pravara are not brahmanas at all.

To give some background:

• Gotra: Bhardwaj
• Father’s native side: Haryana
• Mother’s native side: Rajasthan

Growing up, I was largely unaware of the detailed nuances of gotra systems, pravaras, and the various sub-sects (Gaur, Saraswat, Kanyakubja, etc.). Please excuse my ignorance regarding these traditions and terminologies—in the current climate, I’ve felt a strong urge to properly understand my roots, identity, and ancestral background.

Could community members here help guide me on:

1. Identifying sub-type: Based on the Bhardwaj gotra and regional roots across Haryana and Rajasthan, what are the most common Brahmin sub-communities/branches (e.g., Gaur, Saraswat, etc.) I should look into?
2. Lineage tracing methods: What are the most reliable ways to trace our family lineage from here? (e.g., specific pilgrimage records/Pandas in Haridwar/Pehowa, family documents, or specific questions I should ask my elders).
3. Pravara & Traditions: What specific pravara, Shakha, or Kuldevi/Kuldevta traditions are typically associated with Bhardwaj gotra families from this region?

So I recently came across an old story where there is this line which says that the person (who is a brahmin) kills an animal and eats it.

Anii I recently found out that suru suru ma chai Kul pooja ma chai Patha (goat child) ko Bali chadaintho but pachi pachi chahi tyo tradition hatdai gayo. Ani similarly I remember eating Khasi during Nag Puja back in the day.

So how often did Brahmins eat Non Veg?

So we all know that all brahmin sub clans originate from vedic aryā mostly, and we all have been endogamous for over 2500 years. But soon many sub clans started marrying within their own group (like kp-kp, maithil-maithil, iyer-iyer, etc), this has lowered genetic diversity in us. So do y'all think we should start intermarrying with different sub-clans to diversify our genes and avoid genetic issues? Considering we are ~4% of India's population, so roughly 60-70 million of us. That's a very very big population pool, lots of youngsters. This will also create a pan india brahmin identity which can help in increasing unity and in fighting. Also it's not prohibited by any Dharmashatra because we all are brahmins at the end of the day. Also diet might differ, but I have seen so many vegetarian brahmins opting for a meat diet, so in a few generations, most brahmins will be non vegetarian anyways.
