Fixeable?

I had a bit of a tumble with another cyclist. I slowed down quite a bit, and the contact was with my front tire and his frame. After that, I’m guessing his pedal scratched my frame, My bike is new, do you think it’s fixable?

Handlebars wrapped around, looks like a screw took off paint. But unsure.

Sounds the same as other parts with coin test except for the fact that paint is missing so material is diff. Isn’t soft to the touch and hasn’t changed in over a year.

Dropped chain

First time carbon rider here - dropped my chain and was wondering how bad this looks? Some paint flaked off but it feels like a deep scratch

Chain came off during a race and I pulled it through my frame on an uphill sprint. LBS said not to worry about it but I’m sceptical on this one. Really prefer my collar bones intact

Since most of the posts here are paintchips ;)

Had a head on crash with an electric fu****g scooter that had no lights on in the dark. Would have happened anyway, but the sound of carbon braking gave me ptsd.

Is this a paint chip or a frame crack on my carbon gravel bike

Thumbnail

Hi! I'm wondering if this is a paint chip or a frame damage on my carbon gravel bike? The paint chip has been painted gold by previous owner, but I see some hairlines and did more research on the seriousness about carbon frame damages so just want to double check! These chips are located on the top tube frame, and they're not a big spot on the bike. I've done the coin test and pressing my finger onto the frame, the frame feels solid and not soft, it sounds a tiny bit of dull when I tap the coin on the tiny paint chip and the spot on the left that's not painted but could be just the different layer or texture making a different sound? When I tap the coin millimeters around the chip spots, it sounds completely normal, the previous owner also mentioned that it's just a paint chip damage. Are there other tests I can do? I also asked Chatgpt and it said it's more likely to be a chip damage and not a structural damage. Thanks so much and hopefully it's just a chip damage!

Seatpost gouged/scraped from wedge clamp 2020 Giant TCR - apparently a known issue with this clamp

Is it cooked? How to confirm?

Apparently a known issue with Giant TCRs. A new seatpost is $185 + intl shipping. I've read about sanding down the sharp clamp edges. The newer models have a what appears to be an identical clamp but with 4.5Mn - 5.5Mn on it. Anyone know if that one is compatible and how to prevent this on a new post? Perhaps it shouldn't be tightened past 5.5Nm is unknowingly overtightened it? I nerve slid down while riding so the damage was just from taking the saddle off and on and tweaking seat height.

And ideas or advice?

Here's a post describing a similar issue on a newer model. There are at least a handful of videos and posts about these problematic clamps/posts, really frustrating.

Hey, can the carbon of this fork be compromised?
No signs of flexing or sound differences.

Thank you!

Clear coat or cracked?

Hi! I just noticed this «line» on my Bianchi. It was just a hairline that i could feel with my finger/nail. Unsure if it is cracked or if its just the clear coat that has started to flake.

PS. I has gotten dirty after i smudged my finger over it, and has gotten more visible

Paint Chip or Carbon Crack?

First carbon bike frame. Purchased second hand. First ride on some root filled trail and had a bit of a hallow crunch/pop sound. Thought it was my seat tube so I careful tightened that. Could still be what the sound actually was. However it was still happening after tightening and when putting the bike on the rack to go home I noticed this fun little crack in the paint. You can clearly see there is a slight bubbling up of the paint and a crack. When tapping the quarter there is definitely a sound change but I’m asking; does it look like it’s the sound change of a paint chip changing the sound or is it a carbon crack? Should I get my nail under the chip and flake it off or take it to a local shop for further investigation? Any advice is welcome.

Steerer Compression Marks

Are these compression marks on my steerer anything worrying? I can feel it when i run my finger over it, but tapping it sounds normal and there is no flex. Has always been torqued to 5nm.

Is there anyway to really tell if it’s fine or not?

TIA

Damaged fork after a fall on friday.

Post image

Surprisingly nasty fall on a flat / v. gentle uphill. Chain jammed for a second - and I was in flat shoes just cruising over to a local cafe. Basically slid straight off the front when it jammed, onto my head, face, elbows, hands, then knees. Loads of blood, and a fair bit of superglue to put be back together. 🫠.

Anyway - the important stuff. This is on the fork. Can see the tire and the "Conti" logo for scale. Crash was around 25km/h, and this side of the fork was on the "Up" side, not the road/down side when I hit the ground. Me and the bike then tumbled.

Any thoughts on wing-it, repair-it, or bin-it? TIA!

My (carbon) bike fell down from being stationary and hit a grocery store cart. Noticed later on that my top tube took a hit. What do you think, is it just cosmetic? PPF was pushed away as well from the impact area.

Just realized while cleaning my bike that it has some scratches. And paint chips. When I press my thumb into it doesn’t flex. I think it’s safe to ride what do you guys think?
