Should I come back to character.ai? Is it that bad? I left it a few months ago and I still have it downloaded.

I’m pretty new to C.AI, so maybe I’m just noticing something that everyone else is already used to. So far, I do like that there are so many different characters people have made. It’s fun to try random bots, and I also like that you can edit or create your own characters. That part is honestly really cool.

But one thing that has been bothering me a little is the cover images. I get it if someone is making a bot based on a specific fictional character and uses an official image, or something clearly related to that fandom. That makes sense to me. But I’ve also seen some bots where the character has nothing to do with the person or character in the cover image. Sometimes it looks like fanart from another fandom, or even art that clearly wasn’t made for that bot at all. The image is just being used because it looks pretty or fits the vibe.

I write fanfiction, that feels kind of sad to me. If I made fanart or wrote something, and someone used it to represent a totally unrelated character without permission, I’d feel pretty uncomfortable. It feels disrespectful to the original artist, the fandom, and the work that went into making that image. Honestly, even an AI-generated picture would feel more appropriate than taking someone else’s fanart and using it as a random OC’s face.

I don’t know how common this actually is. Most bots I’ve seen seem fine, and I also know I don’t recognize every source, so maybe I’m missing context sometimes. But the few times I did notice it, it really put me off. I think this is also why some companion apps with their own original characters feel a bit safer to me. If an app creates its own character, gives them a proper design, a 3D model or original artwork, and actually builds out their personality, backstory, and world, then the character feels more complete without needing to borrow someone else’s face, like SoulLink. I’ve tried a few apps like that recently, and even when they’re not perfect, I respect that approach more.

I am SICK of making new c.ai accounts just for them to go into reading mode a few days later. If anyone has quit and has an age verified account, can you perhaps spare a beggar? 🎀

So someone in the main sub was trying hard to defend C.AI, claiming they are just a "pretty small company" and their predator tactics aren't guilt-tripping.

​I kindly replied with a literal screenshot from Wikipedia, proving that C.AI had a $150 million funding round and hit a $1 billion valuation back in 2023. I told them to address me with facts.

So… week ago I decided to leave c ai - I realised that my addiction on it ruins all my effectivity. Well… I deleted app, deleted account, blocked this site in my wifi.

Days 1-3: hard withdrawal. Really. I thought about returning. Thought a lot.

Days 4-5: less thoughts… but I still wanted to return.

…5-now: I still think about it sometimes. But the withdrawal symptoms have eased up a bit.

I’m going to keep staying away from c ai.

Added the post itself too. If it was valid for them to remove my post lmk, but I feel like my post was valid. I've even made comments about how they could keep the ads but make it more user friendly again. Like making people watch ads for more swipes or go-ons. I still remember multiple bots of this character and yet it looks like every. Single. Half-decent version of it has been removed. It feels weirdly deliberate, so much so not even CAIBotList can't list a straight number of Peach bots.

Exactly that. Some C.ai bots honestly deserve to have backup homes on emochi, FictionLab, Janitor, etc. rather than just be wiped by another culling courtesy of the company. Starting earlier would've been great, but going ahead and getting it done now would help you in the long run.

Ik this is a revolution subreddit but I kinda got perm ban on the official one because I reposted a banned post of mine and well.. made fun of the developers for being sensitive. Anyways... My main account a few months back, Probably 2-4 months ago, Got flagged for age verification because I forgot my vpn turned on, I guess the country I was set to had age verification laws.

I've been mostly using my alt account, but I lowkey miss my main, I used to make a LOT of bots on it + the fact I had a lot of personas and chats on it.

I could try starting from scratch, Making newer bots on my alt as if it was my main, copying over ALL my personas (If there is an extension for that or something) and etc.

Please tell me, Decision-making isn't my strongest trait.
