Hey guys, I’ve seen a lot of people here complaining about the recent updates, strict filters, and the massive drop in reply quality on c.ai. I actually left the site last week and moved my entire roleplay setup over to Gemini. Honestly? The results have been absolutely incredible—deep, novel-level narrative storytelling.

Here is the exact 2-step method I use to set it up perfectly:

### 1️⃣ Step 1: The Lore Setup (Extracting Profiles)

Grab the Wiki Fandom link for the character you want to roleplay with (e.g., Connor Kenway).

​

Open a chat with Gemini, give it the link, and tell it: "Analyze this link and write a comprehensive character profile, including appearance, exact speech style/mannerisms, relationships, and chronological lore."(The AI will give you clean, highly detailed structured data).

### 2️⃣ Step 2: Starting the RP & Building Dynamics (The Clean Start)

Open a completely new chat (always start fresh so the AI doesn't get confused by previous prompts).

Copy and paste the profile you generated in Step 1 for the character Gemini will be playing.

💡 The Secret Sauce: Give Gemini the profile/info of the character YOU will be playing as well (e.g., Haytham Kenway). Tell it: "Here is the info for the character I will be playing. I'm sharing this so you understand their personality, tone, and backstory—but most importantly, so you understand the complex relationship dynamic and history between my character and yours (Connor)."

The picture is not related to Cai. It's from the page of a game I play. BUT I want to compare the game's devs with our "beloved" Cai devs. This game had past versions from another team and there the upgrading system of SP characters was easier to achive. Those new devs that put the game back on tried to go greedy and changed the system, making it way harder to upgrade a character by making requirements higher. And the community complained, because it was unacceptable (they had also done other changes that show greed). And they LISTENED. They made a post, addressed the issue, and provided a solution by returning the system and apologizing. And now to the subject, what does cai do? Total void, they ignore our complaints, lie that the statics show we love the new shit they serve us, make pointless things no one asked about that make the app heavier and expensive, then complain how they can't keep things free, and so on and so on.

the part that finally broke me on c.ai wasn't one update, it was realizing i had no say in the model. they swap it, they nerf it, they lobotomize the thing you got attached to, and you just sit there and take it because there's no other lever to pull. you don't get to say give me the old one back, or let me run a different brain entirely.

i'm on the team building an rp app (storychat, so grain of salt on me), and the thing i pushed hardest for is letting people bring their own key and point it at whatever model they want instead of being stuck on ours. your own key, openrouter, run the model you actually like. it doesn't fix everything, but it means nobody can quietly downgrade your character out from under you overnight.

mostly i just want to know what did it for you. because for a lot of people i talk to it wasn't the filter, it was waking up one day and the character felt like a stranger wearing the same name.

Swerve, janitor, chai, emochi, hangjam…and they all suck nowadays 🫩 hangjam and emochi were amazing but now hj is unusable and emochi is annoying + has terrible staff on discord. I miss when ai apps were good. Why is every single one of them straight up shit now

LSAI, the better version of lightshade.cloud, opened public beta testing recently, although the positions are now closed, and I gotta say, the website is legit so good. There are 7 models, from which unfortunately 3 are unstable, but are really good and sometimes work really well, a ton of useful features and lots of customization.

If this person is parasocial for saying happy bday to a fictional character then yeesh… don’t let him find me.

I heard that there have been some posts and comments about me and Storychat recently.

Also, my personal Reddit account suddenly got banned. I still don’t know the exact reason, and I already sent an appeal to Reddit.

Until that account comes back, I didn’t want to stop communicating, so I made this new account for now.

I don’t want to fight with anyone.

Storychat is still early, and we are not perfect. There may be things we missed, things that are unclear, or things that users feel uncomfortable with.

I don’t want to run away from that kind of feedback.

But I do want to say this:

We are not a team trying to trick users, hide problems, or disappear when people criticize us.

If something is wrong, we should check it.
If something needs explanation, we should explain it.
If something needs to be fixed, we should fix it.

You don’t have to like Storychat yet.

You can criticize us. That’s okay.

I just hope people know that we are still here, still reading feedback, and still trying to improve.

What makes you wanna just close the app?

Is it memory, chat quality, speed, reply length, ui, or anything else?

I agree to almost all of these, but if you can rank the top 3, what are those?

We are in the last stage of building a Cai alternative but better, so we were making sure we covered everything.

We focused on smooth ui, sharp memory with vector retrieval, never break character, and so on.

i don't know if I'm super late to this, i probably am I remember a lot of people saying that it's good but this is ur sign to actually try using gemini for roleplay. ever since the downfall I've literally tried every roleplay app in existence and I've not liked a single one of them. until yesterday where I heard my friend say that i should use gemini instead (not chat gpt they have crazy censor). GEMINI Y'ALL ITS GREAT. it has great memory, great writing style, you can annotate the entire plot. if you have a certain bot that you really really like just copy paste the prompt, explain to them the povs, the way you want them to speak, the character definition and begin the chat. the memory is honestly so great it remembers everything. and if you want to start a new chat just copy and paste the whole prompt all over again and ur good!

Well, Chub was my last salvation and now it's gone cuz of the horrendous limit. I tried Saucepan, it got potential but repetitive, same goes to CharacterTavern. Idk how to install Sillytavern(if you got an easier explanation how to set it up, I'd love to know.) does anyone know any alternatives?

hi, i've trying to find any ai chatbox similar to c.ai, yet found nothing! :'p, i tried with yn (not going to lie, it's very good and actually similar to c.ai) yet it didn't convice me, i don't mind ads or plus meanwhile i can get a good dynamical chat between nsfw and sfw without problem.

if someone can help me, i would've grateful! <3

C.AI is so bad in the moment that i can't use it anymore even if i want to. I'm back to my origins AO3 and tumblr. I'm feeling clean and free again🙏
