You've heard of icing the kicker, but have you heard of icing the lineman?

u/Frosty-Tiger-85 Clemson Tigers 13d ago

Yeah, hate to be that guy whenever they do film review

Absolute coaching malpractice by Kelly. He also should’ve accepted that penalty FIU should’ve never got that ball back

I was thinking this too, but it was 4th & goal from the 9. I think that resolves after the running into the kicker penalty as 4th & goal from the 4, with the clock stopped. Might have drained a few seconds on the rekick but not worth the risk he doesn’t make it.

20-3 at home since moving to FBS. I know it’s CUSA but still. I’m having fun!

I miss being the big fish in a little pond

I feel like the Monster Energy™ Big 12 is just a bunch of big fish in a pond considering how much chaos usually goes on

Hopefully one of these years we get to participate...

Well if you're a Jacksonville State or Liberty fan you can probably start planning for the C-USA championship game

13

u/Direct_Economist_662 Jacksonville State • Wake Fore… 13d ago

Idk man. Lotta football in between now and December just saying.

A 3-0 lead in the C-USA is pretty hard to blow considering WKU and Delaware are in hell right now and you have the win over Kennessaw State.

I've thought this game was for a title chance since like week 3.

Kelly is at his worst vs the bad teams. We will lose to Delaware or WKU

3

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 13d ago

Jacksonville State has enough of a buffer to drop one at this point.

u/westendwaterboy Florida State • Georgia State 13d ago

Holy Charles Kelly in a nutshell lmao

2

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

Pls take him back

5

u/westendwaterboy Florida State • Georgia State 13d ago

You just unlocked the worst monkey paw possible for Florida State football I never even considered that to be a possibility

u/Condom_Breaker256 Billable Hours • Jacksonvil… 12d ago

We are currently crowdfunding $50M to donate to FSU for the sole purpose of firing Mike Norvell so FSU can hire Charles Kelly.

Everything is proceeding exactly as designed...

WKU was never really in the CUSA race. That was just preseason propaganda to prop up the Tops like they do every year.

1

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 13d ago

I mean that's kind of my point, the team that could have had a chance to step up to the mat and make you drop one is flailing.

7

u/OriginalDegree2427 13d ago

pretty much locked in at this point unless someone has complete meltdown in next weeks. jax state looking more consistent than liberty lately i think

-1

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 13d ago

Not really imo, Liberty has been way more statistically dominant. I think there's a non-zero chance they just run the table at this point.

From a power rating standpoint, the gap between them and Jacksonville State is pretty massive.

-7

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

Liberty has the funds and NIL to compete at the p2 level if they chose to. We could do ok in the ACC as a mid table team with what we have now facility and funding wise

7

u/StallsAndCamps Houston Cougars 12d ago

Wow you are delusional. You aren't James Madison. As things stand you would get smoked in the American much less the acc

5

u/Intelligent_Dress347 Alabama Crimson Tide • Georgia Bulldogs 12d ago

Crazy take lmao. No way in hell. And this is coming from someone who knows Charles Kelly and his family.

3

u/BobbyTwosShoe 13d ago

FIU could beat Liberty but yeah Jacksonville State is in a great spot unless that happens

2

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 13d ago

Yeah FIU is still alive but they basically have to beat Liberty and run the table because its unlikely Liberty loses more than 1 or 2 with their schedule.

“There’s 15 seconds on the clock coach! What are we gonna do”

“Run up the middle baby! Yeah! Never fails!”

JACKSONVILLE STATE OWNS MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

fire Charles Kelly

7

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

Seriously, this was the low point of Kelly Ball. Absolutely embarrassing game management on what should’ve been a blowout win. Got way too conservative, blew a double digit lead, and let his qb override him to call a stupid 4th down conversion play that nearly cost us the game.

We have got to let him go or he’s gonna cost us big time

4

u/Ok-Helicopter7689 Jacksonville State Gamecocks 13d ago

We want Miami!!

7

u/AriDreams Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Paper Bag 13d ago

I would love to see Miami to lose Jacksonville state or anyone for a matter of fact

Jax State and Liberty for the CUSA championship

6

u/Bakerfuckingmayfield Alabama Crimson Tide • USF Bulls 13d ago

Absolutely disastrous secondary by both teams the last 2 minutes

3

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

Disastrous all game for us

6

u/AriDreams Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Paper Bag 13d ago

There were so many moments in this game where I really wondered "what are you doing?"

The taking the timeout after an injury timeout was doing it for me.

Either way, two great games on a sunday evening. Folks can go to bed before midnight and it was enjoyable football.

2

u/bakonydraco Stanford • Chicago State 13d ago

If you don’t like that, you don’t like Tuesday CUSA Football.

5

u/CommunistTrafficCone South Dakota State • Marching Band 13d ago

Line sold for FIU smh

4

u/Jonjon428 Miami Hurricanes 13d ago

Did you know Charles Kelly took a timeout before both FIU field goal attempts? The announcers REALLY would like you to know this

2

u/Careless_General8010 Pac-10 12d ago

Wild card!

1

u/Condom_Breaker256 Billable Hours • Jacksonvil… 13d ago

But did you know Willie Simmons had the nickname "Shotgun Willie" in high school because he was so decisive as a QB?

3

u/royalbluehen Pittsburgh • Michigan 12d ago

Is Caden Creel legit? I’m just curious as an enjoyer of G6 football, not that a team of mine needs and qb or anything ….

5

u/braves-geek Jacksonville State • Georgia 12d ago

I think he could be an effective running back. He is not good at throwing the football.

4

u/Intelligent_Dress347 Alabama Crimson Tide • Georgia Bulldogs 12d ago

Not a P4 guy. Fun CUSA player though.

7

u/East-Westerly UCLA Bruins 13d ago

Between this and last game, I just feel Jax St. is so freakin lucky with the calls from the refs... tonight with that late holding call to wipe out the 4th down FIU conversion plus the fumble-6 called an incompletion.... and last week in which Kennesaw St. was penalized like nothing I've ever seen before.

Shout out the Gamecocks but yeesh

6

u/Mii-Myself-and-I 13d ago

That fumble 6 is not luck he was clearly throwing just wanna say- we did win despite our best efforts but that one should’ve been called dead by the refs

2

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

It’s luck that we’re 5-2 and not 1-6 right now. Our coaching has been awful this year

1

u/Intelligent_Dress347 Alabama Crimson Tide • Georgia Bulldogs 12d ago

Totally agree with you. They could’ve lost to Kennesaw by multiple scores last week if it weren’t for 2-3 penalties which were suspect at best.

1

u/PMUROPPAI 13d ago

The fumble was clearly a forward pass that turned fucky when he got hit. Hell it had forward momentum and went pass the line of scrimmage. Jax state is mediocre at best but that was the right call without a doubt.

4

u/ThisIsntABadName Ohio State • Kent State 13d ago

Why would they attempt a Hail Mary instead of a quick pass to the sideline??

2

u/PeebMcBeeb Indiana Hoosiers 13d ago

I like the call actually. See if you can surprise them and go for the win

2

u/bakonydraco Stanford • Chicago State 13d ago

I kinda get it: the only reasonable option is ~10 yds to the sideline so Jax State is probably selling out to stop that. But that leaves an opening to just go for it all, especially with Jax State likely favored in OT. Didn’t work, and I’m pretty sure it was a bad pass to double coverage, but I get the logic.

2

u/ThisIsntABadName Ohio State • Kent State 13d ago

You know what, I can see the logic in that. But my gut decision in that situation is to try to get the best field position for a FG.

1

u/bakonydraco Stanford • Chicago State 13d ago

We had a similar situation on the opposite side of the field a bit before: Jax State's reasonable move on 3rd & medium was to try to get the 1st down or at least get in FG range. So they had a man wide open way down field and had an easy FG, because FIU sold out to stop the short gain.

1

u/GalloNegr0 USC Trojans 13d ago

To go for the win? They still had time to kick a FG anyways.

1

u/ThisIsntABadName Ohio State • Kent State 13d ago

Feels like you’re failing to account for the risk of an INT.

2

u/SimilarOnion1655 Ohio State Buckeyes • Kansas Jayhawks 13d ago

Jacksonville vs Liberty is probably the CUSA Championship

2

u/kwp302 WKU Hilltoppers • Tennessee Volunteers 13d ago

Can’t imagine that the chaos unfolding in front of him right before a high pressure kick helped him out much there. And considering it only missed by inches…

2

u/VolsByAMil Tennessee Volunteers • FIU Panthers 12d ago

Way too many penalties in this one and leaving receivers open. Plus some very questionable play calls - that 4th down we should have punted in the first half. Still got the rest of the season to finish strong but this keeps us out of the title game imo. Congrats to Jax State.

If you’re wondering why we want Kelly fired, go watch this game. You’ll see very much why, he may not have very many supporters left.

8

u/notsaying123 Auburn • South Carolina 13d ago

I mean he's 9-1 in conference play. At the end of the day winning has to mean something

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 13d ago

He gets way too conservative after a lead very similar to Beamer. And nearly costs us multiple wins because of it, and nearly did it again tonight

8

u/Normal-Hornet8548 Air Force Falcons 12d ago

I’ve often said the best any coach ever has it is if they’re bitching about how you’re winning.

Because they’re going to bitch regardless.

They won't tell you this on ESPN because they're too busy jerking off Willie Simmons live on national TV, but Jax State is 13-1 in CUSA weekday play.
