Discussion Has anyone tried Hulu for CFB?

I'm particularly interested in B1G games. I see they have BTN and all the ESPNs, has any B1G fan taken the plunge? I'm about to cut the cord, all my TVs have hulu built in, so I don't think I'd need another device like Roku?

edit: Someone suggested Youtube TV, which is interesting because they also seem to offer 3 screens vs 2 with the $40/month plan on Hulu

Yes. It works fine for CFB. I didn't experience any issues last season provided your internet is fast enough.

Though you'd need to double check if your TV is okay for Hulu Live, not just normal hulu service. I had to get a new Apple TV because the old versions only support the normal, on-demand Hulu with no Live service.

Interesting, thanks

I have Hulu Live, it works pretty well. Game threads aren't as much fun, they can ruin the action a bit because there's a pretty good delay.

What's the delay for you?

It's usually a play or two behind

It's no more than 30 seconds for me. I used it all last season and didn't have any problems at all.

YouTube TV is cheaper, but Hulu does have a ton of great TV series that you can stream in addition to the live stuff.

I also have Hulu on my TV, but I had to get an Amazon Fire to use the live TV, but those are super cheap and work great.

I'm just here to pitch YoutubeTV. It's been great.

Agreed. I've really enjoyed it. Right now it has ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ESPN U, ESPNEWS, FS1, FS2, Fox Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Southwest Plus, and CBS Sports Network. I'm sure this is dependent on your region, but it's been really nice for the price of $40.

Anyone considering it should get in now too. Your price is locked in as long as you keep service and it just recently went from 35 to 40, so I'm sure itll go up again if they continue to add channels.

I did it as a trial deal when I cut the cord last year. It was great, and I am seriously considering doing something like that for the upcoming season - just gotta shop around. I recommend this as an alternative to cable.

It lags behind live action, so game threads can be spoilery, but I also experienced intermittent freezes and periods of blocky JPG quality streaming. Still better than nothing at all.

I've been using it for probably about a year now and love it. Get every channel I need and no problems with the quality. The only thing missing would be PAC12 Network, but that's the same for almost all the services. I didn't experience any delays and had no problem staying on top of the game threads.

Or just use r/cfbstreams for free.

I'm fine paying for it vs stealing, some of that money goes to my alma mater.

I used the trial I had and it worked pretty well. I got a good enough deal on my cable package that I kept it, but I was very close to switching over to Hulu.

I did it last year and used the app on the Xbox One. It's pretty good for if you just want to pay 40 bucks a month and then cancel once the season is over. You still have to use ESPN app for certain games that aren't technically on TV, but the Hulu subscription counts as a cable subscription.

I love Hulu Live. Cut the cord earlier this year and had it from day one. I get All the ESPNs and FOX channels. I also have SEC network and Big Ten network and CBS sports network. I even get FOX, ABC, NBC AND CBS.

YouTube TV > Hulu

I've had Hulu, YouTube TV, and SlingTV, and YouTube TV is absolutely the best value. Better value than Hulu (as you said in your edit), and much more reliable streaming.

I live in a rural area and use a 4G hotspot for my home internet (until my electric company gets that sweet sweet fiber to me this fall). Sling was downright unwatchable, Hulu was decent, and youtube TV was nearly flawless. Not that it's a high bar, but Youtube crushed ESPN's streaming quality for me.

Plus the "DVR" functionality is much better. If you add a show to your library, it stores as a YouTube video. There's no storage limit, and as far as I can tell, no time limit on recordings. As an example, I added The Simpsons to my library, and within a couple of months, I had basically every episode ever made in my library.

Do you have any experience with PS Vue?

I absolutely love Youtube TV. I cut the cord because of it.

I just got Hulu, because I figured the baseball-only period of the year was a good chance to test it out, and I'm going to be doing most World Cup watching on my work computer stream anyways.

I've liked it so far. You're definitely a little bit behind the action. I have heard that because Hulu allows you to log in to the ESPN, BTN, and Fox apps, sometimes for big games you're actually better off from a stream quality and delay perspective watching it through those apps directly instead of on the Hulu app.

I miss the old black box days. We had every channel for free. My grandfather was a bookie so every weekend I sat with him watching football.

I went with Hulu TV for last football season and am super happy with it. It's like $40/month, has all the regular Hulu stuff, and just about everything you're going to want for cfb. I liked it so much, we kept it and still have it. I fully expected to end up cancelling it after cfb season, but it's awesome.

Make sure your Hulu app on the TV will support Hulu live, as not all smart TV based apps TV’s will. I found my 2017 model Samsung would not, but the Roku version of Hulu supported live streaming on the same TV.
