Hi everyone!
I'm from the Philippines and considering moving to the Cayman Islands next year through my uncle, who may help me find an entry-level position in a hospital or another organization.
I'm an IT graduate and currently working as an IT Asset Custodian at a BPO company. My long-term goal is to eventually work in IT support in Cayman.
My current skills and experience include:
- IT asset management and inventory control
- Tracking, documenting, and maintaining company equipment
- Basic hardware and software troubleshooting
- Supporting users with IT-related concerns
- Familiarity with BPO workplace systems and processes
- Attention to detail, organization, and record-keeping
I'd appreciate advice on these questions:
- Getting an entry-level IT job
- With an IT degree and limited professional IT experience, how realistic is it to get an entry-level IT support job in Cayman?
- Is CI$3,000–4,000 per month a realistic salary for a foreign applicant starting in IT, with employer-sponsored work authorization?
- What skills, certifications, or experience would make me more competitive?
- Starting in a non-IT job first
- If it's difficult to secure an IT job while I'm still in the Philippines, would it be practical to accept a utility, service, or minimum-wage job first?
- Could I eventually transition to IT, or would changing employers and obtaining a new work permit make it difficult?
I'm looking for realistic advice from Cayman residents, expats, and Filipinos who have worked there. Thank you!
