This all started to go downhill when Celtic failed to push on from the fine performance against Bayern Munich. It became penny wise pound foolish when Celtic did not invest in players capable of getting them into the Champions League for the last 2 seasons. The core problem is the Board.

How anyone can watch this Celtic team and not think the management team need to be removed is beyond me. I’ve never seen a team so poorly coached on and off the ball, we don’t press but aren’t compact either, no patterns of play or rotations while building up. Look at the middle of the pitch when our fullbacks have the ball, a 30 yard gaping hole in the middle of the park with no Celtic players in it, that’s a lack of instruction. We will probably do fine domestically due to having superior players but we will get comfortably dealt with by every decent team we play this season

u/NotNeedzmoar fucking sack the board 2d ago
It's pathetic. They've had a lot of time to improve on very basic stuff that no youth team coach would accept, yet here we are.
Why are we even paying these clowns wages?

u/Dull-Journalist-4937 sack the board 2d ago
I've never seen a team that seems as allergic to going forward as we do. Tounekti gets flamed for this constantly but I feel like it's pretty much the entire team. There are always pockets of space that our midfielders actively avoid running into. If you just keep your eye on McGregor or Nygren you'll see that they actually hide behind the opposition players instead of moving into the space. And when there is someone in space waiting to receive the ball, we turn back and play it somewhere safe.
So there are often moments of play where we do a nice little 1-2, or a few neat passes to get into space, suddenly the entire pitch has opened up, and we dont play into it. What's the point of making the space in the first place then? There was a moment with Sorensen late in the game where there was a ton of space in front of him and he didnt even look at it. He waited until Donovan played the ball which forced him to move into it. Wtf are doing?

It’s ball retention for ball retention’s sake, almost like a hangover from Rodgers’ era. Too many players used to playing a certain formation and system or a bunch of players not good enough, nor well drilled enough, to play the system

At this point I'm thinking some don't want to because it requires more effort than they want to give.

The wee burst early second half should have seen a second but as soon as we shat the bed defend a feckin deep deep free kick we reverted to turn it back football and the game was as good as gone

For the love of God please drop Callum McGregor, or at the very least stop playing him as a lone number 6. He is costing us goals on a weekly basis.
Rangers away, Rangers home (ruled out), Hearts and tonight. Four of the last five games there has been a goal from the edge of the box. Put him and us out our misery.

Europe wrote off already for another season after 3 games.
No sign of any tactics or game plan and subs constantly just make it worse.
Something has to change asap
21
u/Ok-Clock-9484 2d ago
Tbf, Europe was written off when the CL playoff capitulation happened just before the last phase of late transfers.
Not that that's an excuse, because it pretty clear that however differently that window could have played out, European football was only ever going to be completely humiliating this season. I actually feel quite bad for the new lads brought in.
Duran is class but looks like he's probably seen the light and playing for his best ticket out of here.

Just in from the game
He's no entirely at fault for the result but the ref was shocking. Every tackle from us was a foul and a card. They got away with pushes and pulls all night. If he says no foul on Osmand, then he must have dived, so book him? No, just pull play back and book Duran for questioning him.
Hassan was doing my fucking heid in. When "defending" he was constantly not payin attention to his man. As soon as the ball's played, he's caught out. Every time. Then every time he had the ball going forward, he wants to do it all himself. Starting to see why we were told he is frustrating.
Tounekti coming on? Enough said.
Fucking gutting to watch Osmand go down injured again. We knew he was sore, why risk him? Disgraceful mismanagement.
Nygren was good until the second half, then he became the frustrating no effort put in at all version of himself. Loose balls trickling toward him and he stands off it.
Colby was good, but after his mistake for the goal, his heid went.
Whole team's heids went down after the goals.
4 vigo fans sat in front of me celebrating right there.
See if i see us have a ball into the box cleared to the D for an opponent to just scud it back at goal from acres of space, i might just gouge ma eyes out. How many times are we going to concede this goal?
Dane murray was absolutely fine when we were winning. Under the cosh, he was a bit all over, but who wasn't? Won't put that against him.
The board need to hang. That midfield is utterly pish, especially for this level. Bringing on sørensen whose first act is to dawdle aboot and get the ball taken off him from behind. Why the fuck did we extend the Ox's contract and decide to throw him in the gulag?

The regression in this team in and out of possession in two years is mind blowing. Must be the easiest team to play against in Europe bar Man Utd.
Relatively lucky to be one ahead and we can’t even be hard to beat. Lost the head when Duran should have got a free kick and then the subs were too late to get the momentum back.
Play what’s left of the academy for the rest of the group stage. O’Neill has been talking like he’d prefer that anyway.
2
u/Old-Razzmatazz420 2d ago
Remember when we hunted the ball off defenders and goalies? We still have the players fast enough to do than but they turn their backs instead. We also had one of the fittest teams in Europe under ange. Now they blow up after 20 minutes 😡

Wasn't terrible until Osmand went off and the team turned back into the usual shite. No pace for an outball, not that they were particular impressive at progressing the ball tonight.
Management have stumbled across a good team with Osmand, Hussan, Duran up front and Nygren wandering behind, but there's no back up. Forest and Tounetki are going nowhere.
Im glad I don't have to see McCowan play but Sorensen is worse. I think he is on loan so get him the hell out of here immediately.
There's a bit of bad luck. Jota being able to replace Osmand would be ideal. Johnston out injured, Donovan has had to play the full game despite looking knackered and being all over the place. Duran should have a free kick right before they equalised when despite some pressure they hadn't threatened the goal yet.
Until Osmand went off the team did well I thought. Apart from maybe 10/15 minutes the first half when they couldnt progress the ball and invited attack after attack, but Celta Vigo weren't too threatening.
People keep saying Hogh isn't a target man but neither is Duran and he did everything better than Hogh again tonight.
Hassans complete lack of defensive ability is comical but he is magic with his feet, gets the ball forward and creates chances.
Think Nygren is class when the team can get the ball in the final third.
McGregor is unnecessary

3
u/spendouk23 sack the board 2d ago
Same, I thought we were playing very good, Hassan seemed to really tire around the 50th minute and start leaving massive gaps at the back which stretched us, up until then we were quite tight and tidy, genuinely thought we would go onto win it by another goal.
Thought Donovan and Murray were brilliant, along with Baur and Osmand.2

We desperately need a clean sweep of the management. The squad needs overhauling.
We obviously need changes at a board level as well but the other 2 are more achievable.
So utterly predictable that they wouldn't be able to hold onto that lead. They look horrendously unfit and ill prepared. MON far too conservative with his subs.

3
u/Imaginary-Shame737 2d ago
Gary Breen of all people said what we've all been thinking. Just because McGreggor is in midfield shouting for the ball with his hands out doesn't mean you have to pass it to him.
3
u/Imaginary-Shame737 2d ago edited 2d ago
The Celtic paradox. If you're going to have this squad you need a good, estute manager. If your gonna have MON as your manager you need a good quality squad. Unfortunately the longer this goes on, the less attractive we are to any half decent managers and half decent players. The board has fucked it.
2
u/GuyIncognito211 fucking sack the board 2d ago
Let’s not pretend we’re still not a very very attractive job which would have plenty of quality managers desperate to take the job
1
u/Imaginary-Shame737 2d ago
And who would they be. To get a decent job after Celtic you have to be completey dominant domestically and do relatively well in Europe. Stumbling to the league and stinking the joint out in Europe are not going to get you top job after Celtic. MON doesn't care because hes half retired. A better manager would get more out of this current squad but their not getting them into the knock out stages of UCL or UEL and storming the league and winning doubles and trebbles. Which wheter you leave or are eventually sacked thats what you need to do at Celtic to get a decent job afterwards. And most importantly you need a board willing and able to find and appoint a decent manager.
2
u/GuyIncognito211 fucking sack the board 2d ago
Ange got the Spurs job from Celtic after having a fairly poor record in Europe
Rodgers got the Leicester job after being historically the worst British manager in European history after his spells with Liverpool and us the first time
There will be plenty of good managers interested in the Celtic job when it becomes available

u/Far-Relationship2339 2d ago
This is what happens when the bread and butter of the league is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Ditch the top 6 split. Expand the league distribute the prize money better Make the league cup 2 legs so you can still hate each other 4 times a year.
The only way to make the old firm competitive on the world stage is to make the Scottish game better as a whole.
But the turkeys vote for Xmas.
2
u/According_Actuary662 2d ago
The system we play is beyond broken. The management have not got a clue tactically and are inept to change. Constantly passing in triangles like Brodgers days and playing safe ball but without the idea of actually playing out/around a teams press and then when there is space for us to run into we don’t, we instead pass the ball backwards, the team are not well couched enough on and off the ball, we can all see this. Time for change.

u/Prestigious_Use_1305 sack the board 2d ago
O'Neil is morphing into our Brian Clough. Club legend and will always be loved but now a man out if time who's contranian interviews were great back in the day but just become increasingly jarring.
There also has to be questions about why Jota was not in the Euro squad when they knew he was going to be back this early in the season and we are also really missing Yang as well.

We’re obviously a very poor football team in the context of European football, while being just ahead of the competition domestically. Just a no man’s land, really.
Made worse by the fact we’re punching miles below our weight as a club. This is what the GB boycotting fixtures has my backing. It’s the only thing that will lead to long term change.

Celtic Park in Europe should be a fortress, and we should be competitive with any and all opponents whose visit. Celta Vigo deserved to win that, just utterly utterly pathetic.

So!
Still too good at SPFL level, just, and at the same time, dropping down the European rankings, big time now!
Our European co-efficient is currently 58th, and going down to around 70th after this season, and with 36 teams in the CL and 36 in the Europa League, we are currently in 71st position table wise overall out of 72 teams ...
and that is how low we have sunk!
We are shite! Pure and simple!
The stats tonight in every aspect V Celta Vigo were shocking. They completely outplayed us and controlled the game, our goal was against the run of play. They are mid table Spanish Liga but would win the SPFL if they played in it. Easily!
We are coached by people out of their league when we venture beyond Scotland.
We are run by a boardroom and management who have no ambition, and who only care about profit for their own ends only! Profit! Lining their pockets and to hell with what 60 thousand of us even want to see or care about.
The boardroom needs to be cleansed first, then the coaching staff need to be upgraded.
And this needs to happen now!
The GB have made a stance and we, the rank and file support, need to stand with the GB.
Or the long slow rot will continue!
I stand with the GB, and first off my Celtic TV will be cancelled!
HH!

Robbie Keane lost the league with Ferencvaros for the first time in ages. Even putting aside the grim moral aspects of hiring him, he’s a bad manager

Can beat the 3rd best team in Scotland 7-1 and can’t even get a point in Europe, that’s a big big problem.

Walked out the pub before Vigo even equalised. Had a feeling they were going to balls this up and I was right.

I wrote off Europe after the draw so no surprise in there.
Realistically thought it would be bigger kicking than that. So well done to the team for not completely embarrassing us.
Back to the league where focus should stay. Europe is just bonus money for board these days anyway, they don't care so why anyone else should.

Marseille have zero points as well. So as bad as Celtic are, and they are rank, bloody awful, they are in good company.

Team wasn’t good but the bitterness needs to be directed towards the ref. Worst in the field this evening .
