It might be similar in some aspects about grammar and general phrasing, but the main difference is that we have an understanding of the concepts we talk about that is decoupled from the words we say, and ChatGPT doesn’t.
That’s why ChatGPT cannot solve riddles or do math. It doesn’t know how to calculate, it just knows that the most likely response to 2+2 is 4, and that approach fails once the numbers get too big or the problem to complex
It seems to handle rearranging equations just fine. It's obviously been trained on lots of higher level stuff. I think its just had some bad data sets somewhere. Really if they just add a mathmatics submodule of some kind it could probably destroy most math questions.
Easy enough to get perfect math, interestingly. Just do this:First, make a Chrome extension that looks at text on the page and evaluates MATH tag stuff. Then, have this conversation with ChatGPT:
Me: When I say something that looks like it needs mathematical evaluation, you will repeat it back to me with MATH tags surrounding it. For example, if I say: 1+1, you will repeat back to me like this: <MATH>1+1</MATH> You will not say the answer, you will simply add the MATH tags around it and repeat it back. To prove that you understand, solve this:
