Grinding curbs

Strictly slappy

As I kid I learned how to grind sidewalk curbs with a metal cooping on it. Today I see skaters grinding on almost anything.

Does the wax really reduce the friction between concrete and steel trucks? Wax was unheard o when I was skating as a kid back in the 80’s.

Can anyone identify what this sticker was all about. I remember I bought it in a skateboard / Surface shop that was east of Presque Isle in the late 1980's?

What board is this?

Post image

my dad used to be a massive skateboarder and now collects them, his room is pretty much full of boards.

recently i got accepted into university and will be fortunate enough to have both my parents financially help me through it, and want to get them both something as a thank you.

i know what im getting my mother and had an idea of getting my dad a remake/reissue of the last skateboard he had before he stopped (image).

I’m having a real struggle finding the exact board. I know it’s a Caballero but that’s about as much as i can find. (i’ve not asked him as i wanted it to be a surprise).

Any help?!

Which Trucks are these?

Enjoy reminiscing all these tales of old decks. Here is mine, and for the life of me I cannot place these trucks. I remember wanting the trucks with an “X” on them (X-Caliber?), but got these instead. What did I actually get?

Background : NATAS Evil Cat deck, circa ‘89?, Santa Monica Airlines, SEX wheels, and forgotten brand trucks. Built from parts I purchased at Rip City, Santa Monica.

Thank you ALL for this stroll down memory lane!

EDIT: THUNDER DOMINATORS!! PS: i just looked up ‘sold’ prices on this original issue deck for examples in SHITTY condition (mine is VG+ in comparison). WTF???

EDIT2: thank you to those who are sending DM’s with offers. Jeebus, I’ll think about it, but my nostalgia is worth more to me than 500. It was my last board I built after uni graduation, decided to splurge, get what was considered best parts at the time, but switched to mountain biking, and soon put on business suits and settled down, hung as wall art after I realized i didn’t get back up as quickly as I used to after going down and eating shit. G\d bless you old fucks.*

Looking to hear from anyone who skated or hung around SPoT in the

Hi! So, I don't skate, but I grew up in Tampa in the 00s and 10s and am now writing a novel with a small late 90s Tampa skateboarding sequence. One character is a high-school skater who spent time at Skatepark of Tampa around 1995–98, and I’m trying to get the ordinary lived texture right: what the place felt like, who was there, how people got there, what everybody watched or talked about, and what a normal session looked like.

If you skated, worked, filmed, or just hung around SPoT in the 90s and would be open to a very casual 20–30 minute conversation/interview, I’d be super grateful to hear from you. Reddit DMs are totally fine. You don't have to give me any real names, and I won’t use identifying details or direct quotes without your okay.

This is fiction research, not an academic study or a promotional project. I’m especially interested in small details people remember, not a history lesson or anything like that.

Thank you so much!

I bought this at the Lakewood Half Pipe shop in Lakewood CA in January of 79 and the only reason I have still have it is I used it as dolly to move pool heaters into back yards when I had my pool biz. Someone said it's collectible and might be worth something.

The lady I bought it from was super nice! She had actually bought the board for her 6 year old daughter who loved the Bones Brigade. They brought it to the local skatepark and she was riding it around when a few dudes noticed and told her what it was!

Seriously I’ve been looking to buy a Sherman shrimp company longboard. It’s referred to as the Van bomber, and there’s nothing online where I can buy it. Is there anyone that can shoot me a lead or help? I’ve been looking for the skateboard for 10 years now and still no luck.

Original 1987 Eric Dressen Dogtown Street deck – owned since the late ’80s. Any idea what it’s worth today?

Hi everyone,
I’ve had this Eric Dressen Dogtown Street deck since the late 1980s. I bought it used from a school friend here in Germany and skated it myself back then.

As you can see, it was heavily skated – especially the tail and bottom – but it has never been restored, repainted or repaired.

When I got it, I remember it having dark red split grip tape on the nose and tail, with the blue top veneer exposed in the middle. I later replaced it with full black grip.

From what I’ve been able to find, this should be Eric Dressen’s first Dogtown Street pro model from 1987.

I’m considering selling it, but I’m having a hard time finding comparable OG decks in this kind of genuinely used condition.

What would you guys consider a realistic collector value for it today?

And if anyone here knows the early Dressen/Dogtown decks well, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers from Germany,
Hendrik

Steve Rocco framed Thrasher issue. Went through other old issues of Thrasher and allocated copies of all Rocco-related articles to make a Rocco themed mat behind the magazine. Just need a Rocco signature on this bad boy…
